Sean has got it made! Married to a woman who makes badass pickups. If you tell you like fishing, too...I'm really gonna be jealous!😂
She actually gifts him guitars, too!
@@that_thing_I_do lucky bastard!😂🤣😂🤣
Yeah but she also kabonks him left and right. You’d have to have a very hard head and be okay with pain! I’d say it’s a great trade-off, but some people might disagree! 😂😂😂
@@MashaT22 😂🤣😂🤣
Cool video Cathy. PUs sound great in Sean’s blue strat. I’m going to get a set for a MIM strat I’m fixing to re-do. Congratulations and continued success with your pickup project.
Best regards,
Bocephas
Cathy is a "Tone" god!
I think i may have to build me a strat & get some of the best sounding Pickups i've ever heard !!!
It would be great to see a video showing the difference between paraffin and bee's wax! I have said before on Sean's channel how much I appreciate his taking the time to walk us thru how things get done. Appreciate you running your channel the same way! You guys make a great team!😃👍
Yes, please. Parafin V Beeswax. Then we’d know for sure. I had no clue about all the variables involved in making pickups. North, south, staggered, clockwise, counterclockwise… But this is exactly the kind of background info I was hoping for on this show. Maybe I’m a pupnerd, but I’ll know what I’m talking about. It’ll be harder to fool me. Thank you very much!
If it was me, I’d find a way to tangle that up! I’m not particularly clumsy, but it would take me some trial and error, lol. I’d also borrow some of that wire to make some jewelry - double use for it!
I would actually love to hear the difference between paraffin and beeswax. I never even thought about that affecting the end tone result for some reason. Would be a fun experiment.
Nice job, Cathy! It’s fun watching you work on pickups.
dear Cathy I would live to see a video on the difference between bees wax and parofin wax. I hope I spelled that ok. take care from Helcat in Australia.
Very nice. I can say with a high degree of certainty that the Tele pups I bought from Cathy are rock solid, sweet sounds from sweet wounds. All right, I can play the guitar better than I can rhyme. Thanks Cathy. I'm sure I will be getting some Strat pups soon.
Thank you! So glad you like them 😊
stopping at 8000 on the dot,,, i tip my hat to you.
the beeswax is a bit softer and stays soft stops the wax drying and falling out in 20 years or so
they do sound killer good job thanks for the 8007 trick. im gonna try that
The middle pickup sounds the best. That low end is super nice.
I'm trying to figure out how I can get a set of those and 2 humbuckers I don't have a online account going to see if I can get a friend to order them for me where else can you here the pickups before you buy them they sound freaking awesome gave me a chill I could tell how good they sounded by that big smile on Sean's face 👍sound awesome on u tube
Thank you!
They are on ebay, I am working on some humbuckers now and will let everyone know when they are available 😊

Best pickup video I have seen. Educational to say the least. You are a wizard, Cathy!
Man, those Strat pickups sound warm and full! Not your typical single coil pickups! Great job Cathy!
Shawn can try a new trick that might get a lot of orders and a method for DIY guys... Take a good single coil with a ceramic magnet on th pickup bottom and remove it with a chisel (normal room temp. or heated') and install an Alnico II or V magnet instead with wax or glue.
Leave the polepieces alone ...
Whatever is the fast and best method will be the final attachment method. An Alnico II or V magnet instead of a ceramic one would be a good change and easy to do and cheap. Doug in VA.
I ordered some of her strat pickups. Glad to hear them sounding good!! Great job, girl!!
Thank you 😊 Hope you enjoy them!
You do such a thorough job of explaining the way this is done, and results are too.
Thank you 😊
Yes, that would be an interesting video comparing the two types of wax.
Nice job!
I always thought the neck-mid-bridge pickups were each wound differently, but had no idea it was the direction of the winding and the polarity of the magnets. I thought it was the number of winds.
Thanks for teaching people!
Yes
Beautiful man....👍yes on the sound test..
I can't wait until you start showing humbuckers and double cross wound. This are looking great so far.
Thank you! I am working on humbuckers now, and will hopefully have a video up on them soon 😊
Enough flip flappin let’s get wrappin
They sound great. Good job Cathy.
You do a great job explaining the process, you make it look so easy! Magic touch👍
Wax comparison, soooo cool, plz plz 😊 😊 😊
I'd like to see a test comparing beeswax, paraffin, the typical 30/70 wax mix and unpotted.
They sure do sound great!! Nice job Cathy!!
Ma'am, if you want to save a little time, get a small vacuum chamber for the wax potting step. It cuts the wait time to around a minute or so for each pickup.
Nice job, Cathy.
They sound amazing
My grandson and I are doing a strat build next and we agree that we want to use a set wound by you! Lovin your videos 👏👏👏👏👏
Awesome! Thank you!
Those are some sweet sounding pickups! The wax comparison would be a great video, too.
Damn they sound great
Yes, do the wax difference.
Nice work Kathy. I enjoy watching you and Sean work.
Hi Cathy, seems you do a great job winding these pickups, very maticulas for sure. and they sound great as well; great job
That sounds good about the wax. I have heard about s blend of the 2,waxes. Nice Job building the pickups...Cheers 🍻 🎸 🎵🎶🎶
That was so relaxing to watch, im glad you're showing the process...👏👏👏👏👏 Good Job!!
My new favorite channel thanks 👍🇺🇸
Really nice job! They look great and sound FANTASTIC!
Work of art 🎨 I tell you 💯👍🤗
I would like to see the wax comparison . I dont know if youve ventured into diffent winding materials or stack winding humbuckers . I really enjoyed the fridge magnet pickups i want to try that with an uncut pick guard .if it worked it would be a cool stelth look.
So badass! Awesome to see how it’s done 👏👏👏
Thanks you! 😊
Awesome job, as always! You’re an amazing person Cathy! Keep up the amazing work!!
they sound great!!! strat pickups usually sound the best somewhere between 5.25 and 6.75 for the neck and mid and up to 8k for the bridge. you are doing great keep it up!
Great video!!!! Very interesting and informative!!!
Hi Kathy. I really enjoy watching you do this. I hope to maybe get some p90s from you someday. Keep winding. :)
Thank you Cathy and Sean for another great Scar My Pickups video. Well done and informative.😊
I need those awesome job love y'all's show my favorite been telling all my guitar buddies 👍
Awesome! Thank you!
Happy Birthday could watch this all day
@@SearchingForTone thank you 😊
Oh my God , you guys are a freakin' factory. I'm looking to move to a red state. Are you hiring? I've built one guitar and own several LOL.
I love you you guys!
✌🎸🎼🎵🎶❤
Cathy, you are amazing! I have Alnico 5 PU's on my Firefly Strat and they sound excellent. I'll have to buy a set of yours one day. Great video too BTW.
Cathy, you're cutting into your sales by showing people how to do this, lol
The stankface in 4th position tells me all i need to know, i gotta get me a set of these soon.
Id be interested in hearing the difference 13:35
Nice job! Not to blow sunshine up your skirt (or is that Sean’s skirt?), but that might be one of the best sounding Strat bridge pickups I’ve ever heard. They are typically notoriously thin sounding; but not yours!
Damn!! How'd I miss this??
Love that sound ❤
Kathy, you are an amazing artisan of pickups. You are destined to greatness.
I'm going to get some of these
Hell Yeah
You make great pick ups
Thank you!
Awesome job! Sounds great!!
That’s really cool thanks for posting Kathy those pups sound fantastic 👍👍 !!!
wow man those are amazing pick ups. You do a wonderful job and I've gotta get a set of those.
Got got get some strat pickup awesome stuff thanks 🙏 you 😊
Love these videos
That pickup winder gadget is the ducks guts 🎸 wish I could get my missus to do something like that.
Does she cook as good as she winds? LoL, I want to buy a set!!👍🏼
If my old lady could wind pickups that sound that good, I would be happy to cook while she's doing it!
Good video Cathy!!
Thank you! 😊
Your pick ups look and sound great, I’d love to get a hot humbucker off you at some point
How about mixing the waxes to get something in the middle. Just a thought. Thx fir the video
That could possibly be another good experiment…
I like learning and watching. I would suggest you do some over dubbing and explain what you’re doing while you’re getting the pickup wire set up.
Thanks for the tip! You are correct, Sean let me know after I made the video that I should have explained how I was adjusting the Traverse. I will make sure to do that in my next video. Thanks for the feedback I really do appreciate it to help me improve future videos.

You are amazing I just love you and your pickups are awesome sounding great job MISS. CATHY PEACE ✌
Awesome.
Cool, interested.
That one stew Mac's winders
Yes it is! 😊
Thank yuo pickup yuo guita numbone ?hapyyuo múic gitatime!!!!❤
Sky blue pretty color
Neat stuff! Sounds punchy!
i wonder if Cathy makes acoustic pickups like those made for acoustics...
Not yet, but this is something I will be researching to do in the near future.
sweet pickups sis!
wonder if you can mix beeswax and parrafin wax?
might be a sweet film someday.....
🤘🤘🤘🤘🤘🤘🤘🤘🤘🤘
Thank you. How do you decide how many wraps. Can another kind of wire be used say silver wire like on violin bow handles.
You can use different gauge wire but it needs to be magnet wire. I usually use 42 or 43 gauge wire on my pickups.
I wonder how many you brole before you started to get this? People want to do this but its not for everyone as we csn see here. It requires a delicate touch and I still would prefer a more, hand wound bobbin. Great work though.
I went through a few before I got it. It definitely takes time, patience, and some research…
@@ScarMyPickups, no doubt.
I am guessing you don't NEED to strip the insulation off the coil wire, as the heat of the solder is sufficient to melt it off & make a connection with the output wires?
Not everyone does everything the same way. Sanding it wouldn't hurt I think.
I suppose It really depends on the wire you are using. I have never needed to do that with the type of wire I use.
@@ranman58635 Ok.
@@ScarMyPickups I thought as much!
Thanks Kathy!
Keep a winding! \m/
I was thinkin' we'd be spared seeing Shawn's mug.....🥴 ain't trash talk fun?😂
rV ery cool Cathy !!!! Do you find thid machine better than your home made one.>
Thank you! The first winder was just one we made to learn on it worked well, But this one is smaller and a bit faster.
I’d put a divider in that wax pot and do three at a time. Seymour Duncan got nothing on you.😊
Consider making pre wired pick guards?
Yes we are considering making pre-wired pick guards but they will be a bit more expensive that way.
Question- what would happen if you used a larger gauge of copper wire??
The lower the # the larger the gauge, and the less # of winds you can fit on a bobbin. I use 42 gauge and 8000 winds fits perfectly, any larger gauge would require less winds.
❤
Have you dipped the pickups without the tape on them. It seems that might be a cleaner look. I don't know if it makes a difference??
Then the tape will slip around cause it doesn't stick to wax :)
P.s I was wondering how does the number of winds effect the tone or level of the output? Is more winds better? Or is there a sweet spot number? (8007)😊
Generally more winds raises the output, which pushes the amp a little harder. I doubt seven raises it much but maybe that's the magic here!
You are an amazing woman!
Hey, I was wondering if you do Humbuckers, and how much would it be for something that would be good for classic rock/country?
Hi, yes I do make humbuckers. They are $150 a set, I have them in Zebra, black, and white. Sean “Scar My Guitar” plays the same kind of music, and he uses my humbuckers in all his guitars 😊 If you watch his video on the Scarred purple sparkle Strat you can hear how they sound.
Hey Cathy, I just ordered a set of these off your ebay. Quick question, do you make "Noiseless" style single-coils as well? I'd love to get a set if you do.
Hi, Thank you for your purchase! The pickups you ordered are reverse wound reverse polarity to make them hum canceling, but I will look into making Noiseless pickups as well. I’ll keep you posted. Thanks!
@@ScarMyPickups Thanks! I've got two strats, a "Franken-Squier" (with Fender Tex-Mex PUPS in it, but they don't seem to be potted), and a 2020 Fender Player with std. Player AlnicoV's in it. While both sound okay, I wanted some scarred PUPS so I didn't feel like a channel-leech on you and Sean's channels. Not sure which I will put the new scarred PUPS in, but I'm sure they'll go in one of them very soon.
Thanks to both of you!
Like You 2 ❤🎉❤😊
