    I've been saying this for years too lol.
    Not only in the field but on the bases too. He'll go all out to stretch single into a double, but if he's on third and someone knocks a ball in the gap, you bet your ass hes jogging across the plate just as the ball gets back in the infield.

    @8:56 you answer your own question. Yes you would be fine with him patrolling right field for the next Couple of years. He however is going to command at least a 4 year deal and is looking to push that closer to 5 or 6 so for me it's the length of the contract. If there are opt outs after 3 years then I would be more intrigued.

    If Tony showed us more than one year above 800 ops, I'd say pay the man, but I don't believe he'll be over 800 ops consistently.

    Wouldn't it be awesome to be able to attend the Orioles off-season meetings where they discuss their plans for the off-season? Just to quietly listen to them evaluate their players, the market, what their needs are.

    So, do we think Tony's an "old 30?" If so, we better hang on to him!

    Connor, always enjoy your analysis. One more consideration - in Cal Ripken's book, he talked about how different it was the year after the O's traded away Eddie Murray. Cal said he no longer saw the same quality of pitches without Murray on deck and his offensive production suffered that season. Gunnar might experience something similar next year without Santander batting behind him.
    The Orioles should take a lot of pride in how they have developed Santander from a Rule 5 pick to an All-Star. He's been with the team for many years now so they know everything he brings. His team contributions in totality seem to go beyond what analytics measure. Regardless of what happens, always pulling for Anthony Santander!

    Good analysis. Thanks. The high pop-up rate is concerning. But one thing I appreciate about Santander is he seems to like playing baseball. So many players look like they don't even care.

    No absolutely not we have to let are young studs start to play use the money for Burnes and lefty number 2 starter

      Agreed. And go after Tanner Scott to strengthen the bullpen and give Bautista a cushion, in case he struggles

    Imo, this all comes down to what kind of budget the O's are operating with under Rubenstein, which we don't really know yet. If we're still a relatively tight budget team, you've got to let Tony go and use the resources elsewhere, imho.
    But if Rubenstein feels like doing some spending these next few years, Tony's a great guy to have on this team.

  • @kosanmr2
    @kosanmr2 20 днів тому +3

    The O's should only sign him if his WAR is comparable to Nelson Cruz's peak. Otherwise, it's a hard pass since he'll likely start declining in a couple years, and they'll probably need that money to stay competitive when attempting to extend their young stars. It's time to give Hjerstad a full-time role.

    IF… we resign Santander, I’d only want a 2 year deal with a team option at most. Kjerstead is literally here and we have Vance Honeycutt and Bradfield Jr. I feel it would be good to bring him back as a bridge player but only for the right price. Burnes is still my #1 priority as the Orioles.

    • @kensilverstone1656
      @kensilverstone1656 17 днів тому

      You can't sign him for 2 years. Too much competition from other teams.

    • @ssberzerk337
      @ssberzerk337 17 днів тому

      @ I’m just saying as an option. I doubt he would take 2 years but that’s what I would be comftorable with.

    We don't need a 30-year-old player.That's gonna hit home run once every 20 games.
    He's not worth the money that he's asking for

    Let Tony tatters walk sign Corbin Burnes

      I don't think the Orioles can sign Burnes over the number of big-budget teams that will be on the competition. He could command up to $200 million.

  • @Galantski

    Recall that during the season Anthony said he wants to be an Oriole for his entire career. This doesn't mean he'd take a hometown discount, but it does mean that all other things being equal he would return here before going elsewhere.

    I have ragged on Tony all year but I've changed my mind and agree with you. I agree that they can't replace him with any one except Teoscar, and I agree that they should offer him $75 million for three-years, maybe upping that to $85 million if needed. As for Kjerstadt, I hope he will play full-time over 100 games this year, moving Cowser to center as indicated or substituing for Cowser if Colton starts playing like the last two months of this year. Kjerstadt should also play in right to spell Tony against some right handers.

    Are you kidding, Let him GO, way too expensive. Youth please, still pissed Kyle Stowers never got a chance and got pushed out.

      Anthony Santander is only barely three years older than Kyle Stowers

    The unproductive outs is definitely a red flag for me. I like Santander a lot, but the pop-ups + strike-outs are a problem. That plus the defensive limitations limits his value IMO. If someone else is going to offer Santander 5y/$100m, good for Santander. If they can bring him back for 3y/$60-$65 or something like that, then I'd bring him back.

    If this was a year with a ton of quality FA outfielders the Orioles could probably retain Santander for 3-4 years at a reasonable salary. The problem is there are really only three big ones: Soto, Hernandez and Santander. I'd love to have him back, but if it gets into 5yrs and a big AAV, I doubt he's back. I think Elias probably looks at it the same way. There will probably be too much competition for him for teams that don't have the Orioles' depth. Personally, I like the idea of a Kjerstad/Grichuk platoon, maybe even a Lane Thomas trade if he's available. I prefer that the money goes to pitching.

      Agreed. Nice player with flaws but I think the market will force someone to overpay. I don't think he's another Nelson Cruz, probably saw his peak year and has a couple moderately productive years left

    The problem is with our hitters is. We don't have a hitting coach. That's teaching them how a home run. And they strike out and they strike out. Every player strikes out 2 to 3 times a game.
