They need to open the wallet, like come on. The window is shorter than it seems. We have got to dish out the money if we want to win. Plain and simple. The way of the game now. We need to bring Burns back!
This is a dramatic overpay from the orioles. That is significantly more than paid for Burnes to get a less talented significantly more expensive pitcher.
I hope people understand we don’t have unlimited prospects. Every offseason we can’t just buy a new ace with a new top 50 prospect. They need to go spend even. Jordan Montgomery would be a great trade option imo
OK. Yanks got Fried, Sox got Crochet. How are the Os even swimming in the AL East without Corbin Burnes? And, with Rubenstein, why wouldnt they be in on whatever kinda contract Burnes commands? I'm getting ready to be pretty upset if they let him walk.
The Cease for Mayo Della is also lopsided. You guys are better than this. You don’t trade a top 10 prospect in mlb for a one year rental. It’s sacrilege
Elias is always going to creatively acquire ML talent. The Astros did the same & it worked to perfection! Save all the moneys for Gunnar, buy out his arb yrs & w/ a extension keep him in Baltimore!
Just seems unrealistic, imho. And we have Eflin, Rodriguez, Kremer, Povich, Suarez, Rogers, McDermott all as possible starters. We really don't need 3. Just one good one, imho.
If they get Burnes and Manaea, with the QO picks btwn Sean and Tony balancing out, I think we're good. Wishful thinking, I know, but that's one situation in which the "RIGHT" two pitchers are enough. That leaves you with Burnes, Manaea, Grayson, Elfin, Kremer, and if/when the O's do their yearly flirt with a 6-man, you can slot in Povich for a few rightie-leftie transitions. And that's before the IL starts dwindling (*fingerscrossed*). I think that rotation could seriously contend for a WS right now, with a specific 2 pitchers.
Has Manaea signed? I’ve been so frustrated with our not making moves that I haven’t kept up. I wanted Max Fried, or Crochet. Would Seattle be willing to give up ONE of their aces for some of our prospects? Kirby?
I don't include Kraemer, the O's No. 3 pitcher, in the deal for Castillo. Maybe with another lower down prospect or two. I may not include Mayo in the proposed trade for Cease, but would try to come up with some other Oriole prospect(s) for San Diego. I don't trade Kjerstadt in the Framber deal. Pittsburgh won't take that proposed deal for Keller. Thanks for your marathon broadcasts.
Sign Alonso (8 years, $300~), trade Mayo and Mountie (maybe another piece? Comp pick? Cionel?) for Cease. Sign Manaea (4 years, $100~). Upgrades the thump at 1b, and adds 2 quality pitchers (including a leftie) for probably not much more than what Burnes will cost.
Perhaps someone could explain to me why these trade make sense over signing a Sean Manaea? Essentially to get Manaea you’d pay him and “trade” the O’s 3rd best draft pick (albeit a top 40ish pick)…. How do the orioles part ways with a Kjerstad or Coby Mayo in combination with other players like Ryan Mountcastle when you could get Manaea who I see on a similar level as a Castillo or Valdez for basically lets call it pick 35?? I just don’t understand it
I'm not an O's fan but I'd like to see them do well. They confuse me though. They keep bragging about all their young bats yet they are signing older bats to continue to block them. Why don't they spend the money on a starting pitcher which they need MUCH more than O'Neill or Sanchez?
Why do you always want to get rid of Heston Kjerstad. He didn't do anything to you. He just has to have a chance to play in other words everyone needs a chance to play
As far as free agents are concerned, outside of Burnes....No, No, and No. None of those pitchers are NOT a big enough upgrade to lose the pick for. What about Walker Buehler?
Idk about Cease. He has 1 year of control left, similar position Burnes was in. If we do a trade and sign, I'm about it. But if he walks after a year and we give up good prospects, I won't be thrilled. Also not sure how I feel about Cease overall. 2023 wasn't exactly very good for him (and that's being kind on my part, it was horrendous)
@TimothyFair-zg4wm that’s true! I think Mayo is their long term option though, plus his bat could finally explode and he’s a predicted ROY candidate. You know they’re gonna wanna push for that for the extra draft pick! I’d be surprised if they extend Mounty. And O’ Hearn isn’t as good defensively, but still decent
Kjerstad, Mayo and Bassallo are all off limits for these pitchers, except for maybe Castillo. Os won’t sign any long term so unless we get years of a #2 quality guy, we don’t touch our top 3
This is like any other year. Don't panic and stop giving away anymore prospects. Period. Let the other teams spend. Elias told Rubenstein the bottom line and how dumb it is to throw money at wall. Go with what we have.
Hopefully they’ll open the wallet for a SP or two. I don’t love trading away talent in the system. But at this point they need to pursue all avenues for 2025. They could still pull off a Cease, Valdez, Castillo, Luzardo trade and sign a Pivetta or Manaea, or a Heaney or Lorenzen. Also, why not just sign Means??? It’s a low pay, potential high reward for a longtime Oriole. No brainer. Don’t just let him go to the Sox…
All this talk that the new ownership will be ponying up the big bucks to sign top players. Well so far I haven’t seen anything that gives me hope. Now if they resign Burnes I’ll gladly eat my words
The Orioles won't need much because they have the Padres right where they want them. The Padres must dump salaries So they can play hard ball if they want. AJ can't start the season with Dylan's contract.
Why does it have to be a trade, we just lost 7 prospects. Im going after a free agent, here's some guys I would love to hear you talk about who are free agents still free agents:Jack Flaherty, Kyle Gibson and sonny grey.
Don’t give any prospect in the top 15 for a 1yr rental again
I couldn’t agree more! Cease isn’t that great anyways.
They need to open the wallet, like come on. The window is shorter than it seems. We have got to dish out the money if we want to win. Plain and simple. The way of the game now. We need to bring Burns back!
The Castillo trade is nuts.
Sounds lopsided for the Mariners
All of these ideas are massive overpays! If we deal packages like these, we need to trade for young stud like Woo / Bryce Miller / Jared Jones
The players you have, your window is now. You need to win now.
Mitch Keller has four years left on a 5 yr contract at $77m. They also have the Jones kid who might be available.
OK. Yanks got Fried, Sox got Crochet. How are the Os even swimming in the AL East without Corbin Burnes? And, with Rubenstein, why wouldnt they be in on whatever kinda contract Burnes commands?
I'm getting ready to be pretty upset if they let him walk.
His price may now approach $300 million.
Woohoo! Made it on the list! 😂 I agree…maybe no Povich bc Os would be giving them payroll flexibility
Hey Connor, I’d love to hear an episode with your take on the pitcher list article. Thanks, Alikhan
For as much as Castillo costs, I wouldn't give them Kjerstad in that deal. I'd have no problem swapping in Beavers.
The Cease trade is WAY too much
That Sease deal we’re giving away too much 29:19 for a one year guy
These trade proposals are ridiculous, Trading three major league players for one year of a pitcher is insane.
No it’s not. It’s the market
No it’s not the market. Castillo offer is bonkers, find me a comp that says that’s even remotely plausible
The Cease for Mayo Della is also lopsided. You guys are better than this. You don’t trade a top 10 prospect in mlb for a one year rental. It’s sacrilege
The last one is the best
Elias is always going to creatively acquire ML talent. The Astros did the same & it worked to perfection! Save all the moneys for Gunnar, buy out his arb yrs & w/ a extension keep him in Baltimore!
Not going to happen even with a new owner Elias dosent give out long year contracts for pitchers thats why we wont get Burnes
No more deals with the Marlins.. why would we willingly get f-ed over twice?
The Orioles need more than Dylan Cease for pitching. We need at least 3 pitchers. All of the guys we have are comming off injuries.
I think 2 is more like it Grayson would be a great #3 Resign burnes and trade for a strong #2 lefty preferably
Just seems unrealistic, imho. And we have Eflin, Rodriguez, Kremer, Povich, Suarez, Rogers, McDermott all as possible starters. We really don't need 3. Just one good one, imho.

I mean, if we're trading for an ace, why not go after Paul Skenes?
Because the pirates won’t trade him
As far as free agents are concerned, outside of Burnes....No, No, and No. None of those pitchers are NOT a big enough upgrade to lose the pick for. What about Walker Buehler?
Idk about Cease.

Just re-sign Burnes what the market value is and put an opt-out after year 3 or 4 or something if need be, it's just money and not mine so spend it 😁
If Mountcastle and Kjerstadt go in the same deal who plays first
O’Hearn and Mayo
@ that’s a real drop off on defense. I’m not sure if Mayo is ready . I guess the only way to tell is to put him on the field.
@TimothyFair-zg4wm that’s true! I think Mayo is their long term option though, plus his bat could finally explode and he’s a predicted ROY candidate. Kjerstadt will be huge this year

Padres could use an outfielder…Kjerstad? And maybe a lower 2025-6 prospect for cease. We only gave up 2 for burnes…Cease should be less!
Gallen and Monty for Mounty
All this talk that the new ownership will be ponying up the big bucks to sign top players. Well so far I haven’t seen anything that gives me hope. Now if they resign Burnes I’ll gladly eat my words
They want to add an ace? Time will tell if they want to really land one. Seems like its all talk so far
The O's are not serious about winning the world series
Framber Valdez for Kjerstad and Povich ?
Montcastle and Povich.
trade for one AND sign one, stop F'in around
Would you trade Westburg and a high end prospect for Keller? For Jared Jones would you trade Mayo and Westburg?
No.
The Orioles won't need much because they have the Padres right where they want them. The Padres must dump salaries So they can play hard ball if they want. AJ can't start the season with Dylan's contract.

Castillo trade is solid, need to open room for Mayo. Then sign Burnes.
No to Mitch Keller.
That Sease deal we’re giving away too much 29:19 for a one year guy
Castillo that’s the deal
