The diameter of the line is important but the abrasion resistance and breaking point is what I think is important. Which is better Cortland or Extreme Braid?
Cortland Hollow Core Braid hands down... I have been stripping off what left over Braid from the testing I have done but hadn't gotten to the reels cause they were in paen for a bit when it was really slow but they all out and starting to get their proper outfits of Cortland Braid
If you had to choose between a speed master 25 and a avet jx raptor which one would you choose for versatility
I have used the avets and have total faith in them but not the other reel.
Well the speed master I have not fished with so can't tell you the life and try to compare the 2 reels..
This video is exactly what I needed. I’m looking at getting a pair of either size 12/16/20 of these. How did the build quality of it feel? I’m looking at using mine for bottom fishing on things like snapped and small to medium sized grouper out here near Tampa bay. What size would you recommend for these species.
Well I don't have any experience fishing these reels .. just cause the drag says one thing I don't know how the power of the reel cranking will put out the power your asking for...
I have 3 sizes. 16, 20, 24. If your not casting out, get the 20 or 24. Both have 44lb drag.
If your casting with it. Get the 16. If you know how to cast 6 to 10oz you will be fine. Less than 6oz get the 12. Both 12 and 16 have 40lb of drag. One side of the spool is bigger than the other. This is cause it was designed for braid with a mono topshot or wind on leader. They are not a easy reel to cast. The 20 and 24 are almost uncastable. I burned my line casting mine with a glove trying to stop the spool. If you tighten the spool too much to control casting you will burn the bearings in a short period if time. Frame and lever are not metal, and its not a sealed design so dont dunk it in water.

@@TeamHardLife they will put out the power, but you have to have in low gear to reel in large fish, flip to high when just reeling in or if a fish is running at you to take up slack fast. It reels fast at 47 inches per turn of the handle in high gear. Their drawbacks are cheap frame, and not sealed from saltwater, but none of mine have failed, just have to be careful with the screws to service them. I use them for pier/boat fishing only. I use sealed reels for surf fishing.
Dead weight is the reel test and that is what I have found out that many reels on the market can't move my surf weights..
That two different diameters on a single spool is kinda strange looking
It is and it's been shared that it's set uo for them to use braid and top shot with mono thats what the extra space is..

Don't know didn't look into that portion.. but yes sir that's a deal breaker for me with reels and having that low gear power..
@@TeamHardLife I take that back. They have plenty of drag. Mistaked them for the ocea jiggers which haven't much drag at all. Those speed masters have a ton of drag if TackleDirect has the right stats.
And how does the cranking in low gear work out..
@@TeamHardLife not sure. Only handled one in the tackle shop. I'd think very similar to a Talica. Same mechanism.
@@TeamHardLife If you move the handle to the second hole so you have a longer handle, you can horse in anything.
