For a second I thought the Rum Tum Tugger was gonna start belting the climax and now I kind of need that
Either Munkustrap or Mistoffelees would drag him off the spotlight by the ear if he tried that
@@alejandrocervantes3624 Munkustrap definantly would
Gosh, I want to see John Partridge singing Memory
You can see much changes from then to now.. Old memories
I remember this commercial! All these years later and the commercial is so much better than the recent film!
Betty Buckley received the Tony Award for Best Featured Actress in a Musical for her performance in Cats.
As she should
Wow they really improved the makeup over the years
indeed. *AND* the costumes. the Costumes in the Broadway Revival and revival tour seemed as if they were patterned after the Original London costumes.
@@disneydanny2 indeed. I’d say the modern version is somewhat of a mix between the Broadway and London versions
Betty Buckley, Ken Page, and Terrence Mann! What a cast
I saw it on stage Live at the Winter Garden theater that was my first Broadway show I ever saw what a fantastic show❤❤
What are the chances there's an old recording of this? This is very 80s, and I absolutely love it. Can we just admire Tim Scotts (Misto's) dancing for a second?
The TOFT Archive (Theatre on Film and Tape) at the New York Public Library has a full recording of the original Broadway cast. It can only be watched there on appointment and if people can verify they are working in theatre or studying something related to it. So it's rather difficult to see it.
i love the original broadway set, makeup and costume design
Awesome! Love seeing so much Terrance Mann!
Cats remains one of the greatest Broadway plays of all time while scumbag politicians make the dog have a ruff day
Plays??
You mean Musical-as in a Play you don't burst out into song. lol
Thank you!!!!! I really loved this!
Someone saw this and said, "Yes, this will make a great movie".
Where's a time machine when you need it?

Cats The Musical...Fantastic!!!!!
The dislikes are from Mcavity and his followers 😏
If you sold any full recording you have, even rehearsal footage, people would pay for it. $30 for a download or disc, easily.
That's illegal
@@GalaxyNexus1 for ALW to sell rehearsal footage?
@@BongoBon360 yes. Just like you can't legally start selling bootleg videos of films.
@@GalaxyNexus1 You aren't paying attention.
Jan is addressing *Sir Andrew*, who could in fact legally set up a deal like that.
@@baylinkdashyt I paid perfect attention. The comment I responded to made no mention of Sir Andrew. That said, he actually does not have the right to sell rehearsal footage because he wrote the music to the show, he isn't performing it. He would be able to sell footage of him sitting at home playing the songs on his piano, I presume, but he would need express permission from the various Unions and individuals involved representing those featured in that footage including actors, dancers, singers, musicians, etc. And along with said permission, payment to those performers would also need to be arranged.
Terrence Mann purrrrrr
I would give so much to see this live...
This ad was My Introduction to The Jellicle Ball and Back then I thought it was a Film, 3 Years later I went to The Jellicle Ball, and Little Joe: The Moonlight Cat was Born on May 8, 1987.
This is all the commercials finally combined into one: The 1984 Cats Trailer, in its entirety.
Rum tugger is my favourite cat
Wow this is so old 😲
I have a big question for everyone: is there a complete record of this '84 show at all? I managed to find only an audio disc for sale, but I want to watch a video too.
Probably not. But there's the 1998 filmed version, which a) I think is available, b) might even be on BluRay, and c) will be here on UA-cam ... starting tomorrow at noon.
Shot in the West End, with some, but not all, of the then current London cast.
@@baylinkdashyt yes, of course I have a version of '98, but I really want this old one too
@@baylinkdashyt I love the recorded version from 1998...except for the fact that it's missing Growltiger's Last Stand. I haven't gotten the DVDs yet to see if it was added in, but considering it's also been cut from the revival, I don't have high hopes. I wasn't able to catch the stream of it this weekend.
Great musical !
La recuerdo de otra forma xD
I’m guessing the first part of this was filmed in 1982 and the second part was 1984 since you can clearly see the bombularinas are different. 😻😸
Beautiful costumes , spectacular choreography and catchy songs.
Cats is the perfect show for all ages..fuck the haters!.
I miss these old US costume designs.
me too 😭
Laurie Beechman as Griz in these commercials (going to the Heavyside layer). RIP my favorite singer. Geez that guy as Mackavity looks phenomenal. Who was it then?
The 80s Cats was so cyberpunk)))
Or just plain punk! 😊
they should bring this back to winter garden theater from 2032 to 2039
Please do live NBC or Fox version and Evita or Starling express of course 🙏
Yeah I agree with that and I do like the Live TV musicals on NBC and Fox
"Starlight Express" would be extremely difficult to do as a live TV special, because it requires a high level of skill on roller skates, and it's the most dangerous of all of ALW's shows, because the race scenes are choreographed roller derbies. The live TV musicals rely on big-name talent, but there aren't any big names who have the skills, or would be willing and able to take the months-long crash course that cast members of the stage show have to take.
@@OofusTwillip Oh I see
@@williamfairchild7439 @Ola Ola The UA-cam channel @Wait in the Wings has an amazing documentary about Starlight Express! It will help you understand why that show wouldn't be a good decision for the live/slightly pre-recorded Broadway shows.
I don’t know which rum tum tigger I like better this one or the John partridge version the John one that better
OH HELL YEAH
Wow
Imagine living in New York and your local channels advertise Broadway musicals. Huh.
The flipping 2019 movie makes this seem so stupid and bad but the Broadway/west end version really is amazing
The fact that you think you can judge a Tony Award Winning Broadway production based off of a commercial and think it seems stupid and bad is what's stupid and bad. And the movie had lots of problems, and failed because people with mindsets like yours were behind it. The play got so many things right where the movie failed.
Feel like I'm watching two different shows here. Here's the climax to a beautiful 11 o'clock number combined with extreme closeups of actors in unsettling cat makeup growling/yelling at me.
what a great anime
Very cooollllll))))((((
Did... This just spoil the ending 😅
It did, yet do you know how many movie trailers also show the final scene in them?
@@alejandrocervantes3624 Yes, precisely 140,372 trailers have spoiled endings.
@@darrienhavlik8743 did you count?
Thank God they improved the makeup because this is TERRIFYING.
You scare easily
Shut up
@@amandae8437 Triggered?
Are you for real, also the makeup was not all the same in each country-this wasn't the same for the West End + UK Tours + ones in Germany. etc
0:30 wait... Is... Is that... The coca cola logo?!
Before Coke was “woke”.
@@tschouten1 what does that even mean?

I don't know but... I still prefer the original versions of thos 'extravagant' shows, like Cats ou Miss Saigon. Nowadays it seems they've "shrank" a bit, loosing a touch of originality with the revised high tech productions... Althought it may be said that's for the high cost, somehow, I whish they didn't change much. Les Miz for ex. hasn't the same charm it used to have before the revised production. Now, Phantom just had closed on Bway, when appear again (hope so), is gonna be totally different, probably the tour version or a edited one. ✂️😥
Ugh, if it they could show this cast instead of the hugely disappointing one they keep showing. I was heartbroken after raving to my husband about how much I adore the show, only for us to be completely let down by that boring, abysmal performance 😭
Do you mean the '98 version? That was a mix of cast/characters from various versions and a lot of content was cut or changed to suit the video format - you only have to look at the 2019 movie version to see how worse that adaptation was - never saw Cats live, would love to but the '98 version was awesome
@@ed6431 How comes you never seen Cats live, Last saw it on UK Tour in Dec of 2016.
@@mikekaraoke never got round to it...yet, I'm working my way through others 😁
@@ed6431 How, when it has been around since the early 80's. 😂
Where you from??
@@mikekaraoke the uk - I've only been around since the mid 80s 😂 its expensive

What does this even mean?? lol
@@mikekaraoke It does not mean anything. It is random text designed to get past the UA-cam algorithm and establish a fake account that will be used in some sort of scam. Currently cryptocurrency spams. UA-cam do not seem to care if it is not them being scammed.
You can see much changes from then to now.. Old memories
Now where? It's not currently on Broadway.
@@GalaxyNexus1 I’m assuming they meant the film, or maybe how much the makeup and sets have improved
@@BongoBon360 I hope not the film...they look horrible in the movie.
@@GalaxyNexus1 i could be wrong but by "film" i think they perhaps mean the 1998 film ! (people usually refer to the 2019 one as the "movie" or "the 2019 version")
@@annikasaucedo2390 lol a clearer description is always better. 1998 filmed performance vs 2019 theatrical film.
