I'm so happy you saved this. The rest of the performances were scrubbed from UA-cam recently and I'm kinda devastated :(
They were forced to do the beginning at about at least 1.5 times the tempo as they would have at an actual performance. I know cuz i saw the original run (including Kristi) 5x. 89, 89, 91, 92 and 97, Kristi in 89 89 and 91). This was sped up significantly because they had many more acts, the telethon was about 3 hours long.
Truly the best performances of CSTS were always fromBroadway performers. The top-flight caliber of technical skill and pure joy of dance choreography is still amazing. I miss those days. 😢

If you compare them with Jo Gibb and Drew Varley, or Billy Mahoney and Naoimh Morgan, then it is perfectly clear that those British actors surpass them in all respects.

I can confirm 1991. I saw the telethon. It was March or April 1991. I remember because Christy Baron was in Les Miz as Fantine and I saw her in the actual show just a few weeks later in May 1991.
Is it just me or is this not as s*xy than the ‘98 movie version?
The movie version is better. There should be some editing in this version because the cameraperson shows up during this which is a huge immersion breaker and it doesn't have the some of the sound effects that the 98 version had either.
I'm wondering if they added the sound effects for the movie or if they didn't bother because this was for charity.

@@lobosalt6868this is from 1991 from a charity event and it's completely live. I watched it on TV, and I also saw Kristi do this 2x during same time period. There's no editing, whatever control they had was done live like on a live TV broadcast (switching to different cameras).
