I guess since I first heard the original Dutch recording after I saw the show back in 1992, I kinda gotten used to the dutch names. But I get where you're coming from. It's simply because the poems were translated like that long before they became a musical, and they used those translations for the poems for the translation of the show.
Thank you for uploading! This is very different from the 1998 film version I'm used to, but still a lot of fun!
It's actually not that different from 1998. The song got shortened for the film: the 1st up-tempo part and the 2nd verse were cut. For some reason the 7/8 part of the song got changed into 6/8 after London closed. The choreography is the same except perhaps a couple of language adjustments.
@@MarkvanBeelen I suppose that's true. I've heard there were some versions in earlier productions that were entirely different, so compared to those it's very similar. I guess with how many times I've seen the other version, even the tiny changes stood out to me. Probably the biggest difference is just that this is live, which gives it a sort of high energy, slightly unrefined feeling that works very well for the song.

@@coryman125 Basically there are 2 entirely different versions of the song. There's the original 1981 London version. A slow jazz song sung by Mungo & Rumple themselves, which you can hear on the London cast album and remained in the London production until 1996 (if I'm not mistaken). That's also the version that was used in the 2019 Movie adaptation. And there's this one, which was created for the 1982 Broadway production as a solo for Mistoffelees, featuring 2 other cats dressed up as Mungo & Rumple to perform for Bustopher Jones' entertainment. Revisions made during the 1983 Vienna production gave the song back to Mungo & Rumple to sing about themselves. Through the years further adjustments were made. They even updated it again after I performed it in the Netherlands. Never a dull moment with this song.

i love the way u nod ur head like that at 4:21!!! i was act in a chorus concert w a friend and we had 2 do mungo and rumpel i was rumpel we basically lipsynced and danced i had a tiedye costume brown w diff spots but i had a dark rumpel like wig so the wig made up for the lack of stripez yes?

Wouldn't Mungojerry and Rumpleteazer in another language still be Mungojerry and Rumpleteazer? Don't get that. Also, I don't like the more reserved Rumpleteazer here. Need more playfulness!
Otherwise, great performance! Like Mungojerry a lot and the synchronization is on point. Also, big props for holding the note during the cartwheel. Very impressive.
The original Dutch translation of the show was done by the same man who translated the poems years before the musical was made. Most of the song lyrics are the exact translation of those poems. The poems are not only translated, but he also set the entire story in the Netherlands. All the typical English names and venues are therefor replaced by typical dutch names and venues.
Deze versie van lorrenjope en scharrelnelis is een stuk minder dan de versie van 1988. Zoals ik de hele versie van de musical op zich stukken minder vond dan 1987, 1988. Jammer dat er een blik bekende Nederlanders opengetrokken moest worden.....Marco Bakker ???? doe mij een lol...en Anita meijer.....alsjeblieft zeg.....ik bleef maar Anita en Marco zien ipv Deuteronium en Grisabella......
