most underrated character. new generation won't know that this guy was build up as a rival to kazuya. man fought kazuya to a draw before tekken 1. gotten to the final in tekken 2. beat ogre before he transformed in true ogre. and now he and yoshimitsu are comic relief :( the fall of legends
Here from the Paul 10 hit combo evolution Amazing narration and choice of video clips One thing I'd like to add is that other than his burning fist, Paul is also a master of Judo where he can throw and grapple with people with minimum effort His technique with his raw strength is a deadly combination which gives him the edge on any 1 on 1 battle I agree he was done dirty by the Tekken story line and I'm hoping they take him seriously again in future games
The main reason I like Street Fighter more than Tekken: The characters all have some kind of purpose. Most Tekken characters seem as if they exist for no reason
When it comes to writing characters, there is always an unspoken balancing act between their personality( the traits that make who they are as well as their background that defines their actions) and their purpose( what role the writer intends for them to play in the narrative). With Paul, he falls into the trap several fighting game characters do; the writers give them plenty of personality for player appeal, but don't really have a purpose for them so they end filling miscellaneous roles like comic relief.
A very well done video on Paul. It's a shame Tekken didn't really give him the push he deserves. He's definitely a fav among many of us. I agree with everything you said about him 100%.
Geez! It's sad that Paul keeps getting screwed over. I'm afraid you're right in that, if Tekken was a more honorable tournament with clear cut rules, Paul would've won every time. I'm actually very interested in your dark Paul theory. It would make me sad to see him go down that route. But it'd make his story interesting again. I don't like what's become of him. I want him to regain his reputation and be taken seriously again. After all, who else, apart from Lars and his mediocre plot armor, can claim to have reached a draw with a man possessed by the devil and defeated an otherworldly creature?
Very well said! I agree too! It really does go against his nature but maybe that would be what it takes for him to be taken seriously. I really appreciate you taking the time to share your thoughts! I'm glad you enjoyed it!
Aw man, I never knew Paul was done dirty like that, or that he could have won the Iron Fist tournament nearly three times over back in the day! As always, another awesome video done by you! Keep up the good work!
I don't know if mortal kombat is a good example of a fair tournament considering the original game wasn't exactly clear on how the tournaments played out, and the new timeline version of each tournament seems to have the host make up whatever rules they see fit.
Okay as promised let's go into that feedback now that I've watched all three. Good presentation, interesting stuff and was pretty cool run overall man. So, Kazuya and Paul's fight to a draw happened pre Tekken 1 thus setting the stage for their rivalry however one-sided it may be. As far as the fight itself in King of Iron Fist 1 goes, it was a straight fight and Kazuya won. Now regarding their rivalry and I use that term loosely it's very one sided because Paul sees Kazuya as someone he can go the distance with and go toe to toe no holds barred in an epic clash, Kazuya doesn't give a shit. Paul's a gnat as far as he's concerned. I don't see Paul going down a darker path of corruption just to become noticed by Kazuya or a threat etc because it goes against his core values, beliefs and work ethic. As daft, brash and reckless though he may, he's still got honour and integrity. So it's interesting for me to see his lows as well as his highs from being burned out, a laughing stock from 3 to pre 4 and then getting careless in his fight with Kuma in 4 that was rightfully punished and then beating Kuma in a rematch in 5 and just being so worn out from it that he couldn't advance and 6 is just a clusterfuck where it's basically a get rich quick scheme of teaming up with Law and Steve to split the money etc because well three heads means three fair shots at the prize money and then boom set for life. 7... Yeah... That's a whole other ballgame of disappointment. But all in all, I think what makes Paul so relatable and compelling to a lot of people is that spirit of a competitor. He doesn't quit or cut corners when it comes to himself and that's something awesome to strive for. Going forward though, I would genuinely like to see him take what he's learned and apply that to himself not just in terms of his fighting skills of new moves etc but also in his mindset and attitude as a fighter where he could take a step back from himself, dial down the ego and even impart some wisdom on the newbies and what not of "Look kids, I've been around the block and I've seen a lot of fighters come and go. I want to show people what I've learned not so that I can brag or boast like I've done in the past because that's bit me on the ass a few times but so that I can inspire people to better themselves and even show them that my way of martial arts and my attitude attached to it is something that can be helpful to others." so that way he shows a bit more maturity in his age whereby he's not quite given up that competitive and fiery spirit that he has always had, it's just that he's found a new way to channel it.
Color me Impressed! Im glad you seemed to enjoy the videos and were kind enough to share your take on Paul! I agree with the idea that he has so much to give as a character. Thats a pretty cool idea about him being a mentor to future fighters! and that Tekken 7 remark made me chuckle! Lets hope they shine a better light on these competitors in Tekken 8, As I feel Paul is one of those characters that definitely deserves it!
@@equanimity92 You're welcome. And for whatever reason, UA-cam cut off bits of it had to put it back in there (useless bastards) And you're very welcome man. Left a comment of your Nina and Anna video as well.

Facts! Look how they massacred our boy!
3:37 "Umm, actually. 🤓" Kazuya and Paul fought to a draw BEFORE Tekken 1. Kazuya defeated Paul in Tekken 1.

I didn't know he trained with Lee

Osu!😤💯❤🔥✊
Very well done
tysm! I'm glad you enjoyed!
Paul needs to be fixed in the next game!
Will Paul become a villain? Turning on Law, defeating Kuma, and taking out Kaz or Jin for a title 😏
Who knows!😬I can see him training up a Protege (i.e Paul Jr) in future installments

Excellent video. Paul's my favorite Tekken character. And seeing him become the joke of the series made me cringe.
Tysm! I really appreciate it! And you're absolutely right, Paul deserves way better!
@@equanimity92 Indeed he does and yw.

i hate what they did to my 2nd favourite tekken character. So much potential and yet he's regated to being a JOKE?!
My thoughts exactly! Paul is a Legend. Which is why I felt the need to make this video dedicated to him.
Namco Definitely Needs Too Bring Back Ogre So He Can Have a Rematch With Paul ✊🏻🇺🇸✊🏻🇺🇸✊🏻🦅🔥✊🏻🦅🔥
Run it back! So far he is 0-1 to Paul! must be ducking him!
