    This is literally what I was looking for! I just found the old vintage camera that my parents used to record when I was just a little kid and I knew there was a more modern and convenient method to record without tape. Thank you so much!

    Here's a better setup (This is how they do it in the movies), get a HDMI converter, and then get a 4K Monitor/Recorder. This is what I do, and the quality is actually insane. I use a Sony TRV72 HI8 camera into an ABLEWE HDMI Converter into an Atomos Assassin 7, and it looks amazing.

    Like the video! 😊, vintage-footage rebound,.. better that 4K or any other HD-camera footage work, the higher the demand the higher the prices of the vintage handycams.. (little downside).. but I love the 80's-90's Cams.. everyone should have one at home❤❤

    I still have my Sony Hi8 and a regular Sony 8mm. I still have tons of blank Hi8 tapes. That's a cool Idea to set up. Less wear n tear on the gears. In a few months, my younger cousin wanted me to video her wedding with the same Sony Hi8 I used to film her when she was a baby. She wants the "vintage look". This idea would be a lot better when editing the video later.

    • @easyymoneysniper
      @easyymoneysniper 5 місяців тому

      using a clearclick comes with a bunch of issues itself that needs fixing and the video/audio quality wont be good at all. if you really want to capture that wedding properly i'd suggest getting something that makes actual use of the firewire port in those old cameras. a Sony HVR-MRC1 for example. very expensive though unfortunately.

    Hahahaha when you mentioned accidentally re-recording over footage - i got war flashbacks
    A month or two ago, i was recording a live show onto Video 8 and captured one of the most epic finales ive seen
    After their set, i rewinded after the performance to show the band the final song they did
    Then i started recording the next band
    Went home and woke up the next morning
    Watched through the whole performance, only to realise i forgot to rewind it back and i rerecorded over the BEST part of the video tape

    This was a great diy video. No fluff straight to be point with clear instructions so thank you for this man 👍 On a side note, alternatively you can just shoot the video modern way and then record it on a vhs tape and then transfer it back to digital. It looks exactly the same and you'd have both versions of your film, one modern high resolution look and the other one being the nostalgic degraded look, so you could sell both versions of your film and maybe even make the nostalgic one as an exclusive copy for retro lovers. Also this method authentically degrades your audio as well so it requires no need to fake it in post at all.

    i have a 6 volts camera so i used a motorcycle battery, a little heavier but you know it is cheaper and one gets more minutes to film. i did that and it worked you can do your own research obviously. remember 6 volts there are gel and acid batteries idk if there is some other material.
    you can make something with a 3d printer to place the battery along the camera or just be creative. and even if the camera required voltage is more than what the battery can bring it works . because of the amps but again do your research. hope it might help

    3:27 there's a quite a bit more detail in the S-Video footage, and that's on top of the lower quality deinterlacing that was used. But I'm guessing the record does that automatically. It would be cool if there was a record that could capture straight-up NTSC 60i footage.

    Those USB composite capture dongles also degrade the source quality horrendously. Analog tape formats are already "aesthetic"...you wanna work with as pure a capture as possible. Usually.

    Just don't confuse interlacing artifacts with the "vhs look". That artifact was never visible on a CRT display back in the day because those displays were interlaced. So please, decomb your video. The feathering is not an authentic part of the look. It's just an artifact created when playing interlaced video on a digital progressive display. Feathering doesn't look vintage of genuine, it just looks horrible. So, keep the VHS esthetic but decomb the video.

    • @TylerCaseyProd

    • @N0ld0r
      @N0ld0r 4 місяці тому

      @@TylerCaseyProd Yes, of course. But proliferating that look would be a shame because it's easy to remedy with a simple bob deinterlace when you make a video.
      Just saying, that artifact was not present in vhs and it's ugly. If you are going for the VHS vibe then just do a fast deinterlace and you're good.
      If you don't it sticks out like a sore thumb and people who watched VHS back in the day will notice. Makes it look more like the red whatever filter you mention in the video. 😉
      Deinterlacing is fast easy and available. Use it and get 100% of the look instead of 90% 🙂

      Well, thanks for stopping by to grace us with your wisdom! While you may find it ‘silly,’ there’s a whole community out there rediscovering the unique charm and nostalgia of vintage technology like Hi8 and VHS cameras. It’s not about following trends; it’s about embracing the creativity and character these old-school tools bring to content creation. But hey, if you’d rather stick to your pristine, high-definition videos, no one’s forcing you to join the analog renaissance. Cheers!
