Their original company was DSP but they really ran the company into the ground after their original CEO stepped down due to illness. As a result, their relationship with some of their members were irreversibly damaged. Recently RBW had bought DSP, and consequently the rights to Kara’s music. The theory is that now that the company was under new management, they were able to cooperate with the members and able to reunite them once again.
In their peak, they were the highest earning girl group. I can’t remember the year, but one year they earned more than all the artists in YG collectively made that year. They were the first Korean artist to sing at Tokyo Dome, and sold out tickets in 5 minutes, beating Janet Jackson’s record of 7 minutes. Their single Jet Coaster placed 1st on the Oricon Chart, making them the first Korean girl group to do so, as well as the first girl group to do so in 30 years. My girls were legendary.

KARA debuted in 2007 and this comeback is for their 15th anniversary :)
The youngest members are both girls in left and right end (both born in 1994). Why both? The girl on the left end (Jiyoung) left the group (with the girl in pink (Nicole)) in the beginning of 2014 and the same year the girl on the right end (Youngji) was added. The girl that you thought is the youngest (black skirt, her name is Seungyeong) is second the oldest ;) She and the girl in the middle (Gyuri) were born in 1988.
In 2016 KARA stopped to being active. According to their old company (DSP) they disbanded but our leader Gyuri said the didn't and we of course believed her :) This year KARA decided to comeback with almost all members and give us a song. As you could notice, in the end of the MV there are 6 mics when we have now 5 members in KARA. The 6th mic is for our late member, our angel, Goo Hara that we lost in 2019. They were also one more member when they debuted but she left the group after couple of months.
So basically how it looks with the members rotation in KARA:
2007 debuted with 4 members: Gyuri, Seungyeon, Nicole and Sunghee.
2008 Sunghee left the group and the industry. Jiyoung and Hara were added.
2008-2014 KARA with 5 members: Gyuri, Seungyeon, Nicole, Hara, Jiyoung
2014 Jiyoung and Nicole left the group. Youngji was added.
2014-2016 KARA with 4 members: Gyuri, Seungyeon, Hara, Youngji
2016 Gyuri, Seungyeon and Hara didn't renew their contracts with DSP
    2019 we lost Hara
2022 KARA comeback with 5 members Gyuri, Seungyeon, Nicole, Jiyoung, Youngji and our angel Hara.

    @snufflebear Рік тому +30

The girl you keep noticing on the left hand side, her name is Jiyoung, nicknamed "Giant Baby", because as you can see, she's taller than everyone else, and was the makanae, didn't really rap when she was in the group, that I recall. Youngji on the very right is the newest member, and the new makanae, though the same age is Jiyoung. Main vocal is Seungyeon, the one in the black skirt on the left, also known as "Fake Makane" because at first look, she looks like the youngest, and smallest. Gyuri in the middle is the leader, and Nicole is in the pink shirt, obviously she's a singer, but she was also the main rapper. Seungyeon, Gyuri, and Nicole are the only members from their debut, where they had another girl as main vocal, who left the group after the initial release wasn't successful as they debuted with kind of a girl crush concept, very not popular back then. The next comeback, they added Jiyoung, and Hara (RIP), and did a 180 on concept, and went very cutesy for a while, but then later started doing less cutesy, more mature, sexy. After Jiyoung and Nicole left in 2015, a competition show, the Kara Project was used to find the next member, which ended up being Youngji. Nicole has been working as a soloist, Jiyoung was acting in Japan (live action version of Assassination Classroom), as well as doing solo work there as well. Seungyeon has been an actress, not sure what she's been up to lately. Gyuri I haven't heard much about, and Youngji was doing solo and variety shows I think. I found Mamma Mia most interesting, as Jiyoung and Nicole weren't in the group when that came out, so was curious which parts they would sing, and what color they would add to the song.

    • @kunikuzushis
      @kunikuzushis Рік тому +3

Jiyoung would rap sometimes. She would share rap parts with Hara like in Step and Pandora and I believe she has a small “rap” part in the end of Damaged Lady.

KARA is one of those legendary 2nd-gen girl groups! They got hugely popular in Korea in 2009 especially with "Mister" and its booty choreo, but out of 2nd-gen girl groups they became the most popular in Japan! You can hear part of that J-pop appeal in some of their earlier songs in their Killing Voice, which I think led them to that popularity.
KARA originally debuted in 2007 with main vocalists Gyuri and Seungyeon and vocalist/rapper Nicole, plus Sunghee, who left the group the year after. So Goo Hara and Jiyoung were brought in for their main lineup. Eventually, Nicole and Jiyoung left the group so DSP held an audition program that added Youngji in 2014. So what's cool is that we've never had Kara promote with this particular lineup before! And yup, they're also celebrating their 15th anniversary just like SNSD ;o
"When I Move" is totally a certified bop and I love how it has more mature disco vibes, like a maturation of their musical style and it also gives me "Mamma Mia" vibes (one of their last releases) ;o Yeah and they're under RBW because RBW bought DSP lol
The members in the Killing Voice (left to right) are Jiyoung, Seungyeon, Gyuri, Nicole, and Youngji. I definitely recommend checking out the MVs for the songs they sang in their Killing Voice, plus "Pandora" and "Mamma Mia" if you haven't yet :D Definitely "Mister" became so huge and iconic with its booty choreo, because it was actually just a b-side but they eventually had to film an MV when the Japanese version came out after all ;o
Part of the KARA charm is that, though they do have different positions, their line distributions don't really have too much disparity so all members are able to just shine and own each song, and they really come across as a unit of powerful members :D
It's amazing that the legendary 2nd-gen girl groups have all been able to get back together as of late. SNSD and KARA with their 15th anniversary comebacks this year, 2NE1 reuniting at Coachella, and there's also T-ara who came back last year with "Tiki Taka" that I can recommend checking out ;o

Jiyoung (final fantasy): lead vocalist, face and maknae
Youngji (short hair): lead vocalist, main rapper and maknae
Jiyoung and youngji took the parts in the songs that belonged to Goo Hara (lead rapper and lead vocalist), so that's why Jiyoung ended up with some rap parts.

Tbh KARA’s line up is a lil bit confusing
But here i will explain it a lil bit
KARA debuted in 2007 under DSP Media. One of the OG TOP 3 GG (WONSOKA) WonderGirls, SNSD, and KARA.
Debuted as 4, the MAIN VOCALIST SEUNGHEE left only after 1 year bcs of her parents.
Seungyeon (lead vocalist) the 2nd one wearing skirt, then promoted to be main vocalist
    Gyuri (Leader) in the middle.
Then Nicole the one in pink (center, main dancer, sub vocalist).
Then 2 members join (the late) Go Hara, and Jiyoung (the one in brown pants, u thought her as main dancer).
The last girl whose voice u like a lot was the latest addition to the group, Youngji the maknae. She was in a show called Roomate with Park Bom (S1) and Sunny (Season 2), oh they got Jackson from Got7 too

Just to add more fun facts to these multi-talented queens:
-There was an ANIME created for them because of how hugely popular they are in Japan
-OT5 (with Hara) starred in their own Kdrama, with each member having their own episode
-3 of the girls (that I know of) have starred in several other Kdramas after the original group disbanded (Kang Jiyoung, Han Seungyeon, and Park Gyuri)
I'm sure there are more fun facts like this, but you get the idea, they were sort of a big deal ;)

So three girl groups debuted in the same year that broke many records throughout their career. Girls Generation, Wonder Girl and Kara all debuted in 2007. All queens and icons! Actually the girl that you liked the most the one who rapped isn’t a rapper, after Hara died Jiyoung did a lot of her parts and Hara and Nicole (pink top) usually had the slight rap parts in songs that had raps. Jiyoung might have had a few lines here and there but if there was any rapping is was usually always Hara and Nicole. And the youngest member is the one on the opposite end who you thought was the main vocalist. And the actual main vocalist is the one who did the power belts who you thought was the youngest 😂 and she’s actually the same age as the one in the middle who is the oldest and leader. So the one you thought was the youngest is a few months younger than the oldest 😂 Their names are, starting with the one you thought was the rapper and your potential bias: Jiyoung (second youngest, Seungyeon (second oldest), Gyuri (oldest/leader) Nicole (Korean-American from Cali, maybe you recognize her from a variety program or something) and Youngji (youngest and newest member to join after Hara’s death) Mamamia was Youngji’s debut in Kara. I feel like my comment could have been constructed better but it’s a mess like me so it is what it is chile, hope it was helpful though 🤦🏿‍♂️

Kara were the first girl group I discover back then that why I felt so overwhelmed today watching their new videos🥹🥹 their performance on mama was soo good ❤️‍🔥 as always live vocals & stage presence are on point ❤️‍🔥❤️‍🔥 honestly I don’t know if my words make sense anymore I got too excited and I’m talking a lot😅 happy to see people react to them, enjoyed your reaction 💗

Interesting point you made about Youngji. She was actually the latest addition to the group, having won a survival contest in search for a new member after Nicole and Jiyoung's departure. She probably has the strongest vocals in the group, though I would still consider Hammie the better singer. But if I had to rank them in terms of vocal performance, it would probably look like this:
1.) Seung-yeon - No explanation necessary, I mean she's their main vocalist for a reason. You might want to give her song 'Guilty' a listen as you mentioned you wanted to hear them sing rock.
2.) Young-ji - Just watch her performances when she single-handedly carried Kara on her back, promoting solo after the others' contracts ended. What a champ. Like I said, she has the strongest vocals among the group, but unfortunately she has to take a backseat and let her Unnie's take most of the lines as they had been distributed prior to her joining Kara.
3.) Nicole - She's got a stable, solid tone, and is a runner. Her belts are also strong. Not to mention her being the main rapper of the group as well. She slays while technically being designated as the group's main dancer, lol. A triple threat!
4.) Gyuri/Jiyoung - Gyuri's a solid vocalist, too, but her tone is an acquired taste. Maybe it's just me, but I just prefer a much open, breathier tone compared to something nasal. Jiyoung isn't bad at all, just listen to her solo material. But her voice is too thin, in my humble opinion.
    Regardless, they're all awesome performers.

13:48 After the debut, the main vocal Seunghee left the group. They added Jiyoung and Hara into the group. I think the trend at that time is cutesy concept so that’s why they did it. Seungyeon became the main vocal and her voice is kinda thin and girly, it suits the cutesy concept.

They're all legendary groups and they all debuted in 2007 too. And you are very right about them doing j-pop well since they're literally the queens of Japan. They're even considered as national singers during their peak with Soshi.

So let's address some comments you made
14:58 i BURSTED OUT LAUGHING when i heard you say this, because KARA actually made HUGE success in Japan, they were the first Kpop group to perform in Tokyo Dome, they were REALLY popular in Japan
18:40 the 2 you guessed the youngest are actually the oldest, Seungyoun (Skirt) and Gyuri (center) both from 1988, the youngest are actually Jiyoung (furthest to the left) and Youngji (futhest to the right)
23:00 i don't know if it helps, but Nicole (pink) really reminds me of Hyolyn from Sistar, maybe that's it, and yes she's the main rapper and sub vocalist, the one you guessed main vocalist Youngji (gray with black skirt), she's also a rapper and sub vocalist, and that shows how great KARA is with vocals, the main vocal is actually Seungyoun (Black skirt and boots), but as you said, all of them can sing
24:05 positions with KARA is tough because that line never actually existed, Youngji never performed with Nicole and Jiyoung before this 15th anniversary reunion, she joined after they left in 2014

    Gyuri: oldest, Leader, lead vocal
Nicole: Main Dancer, Main Rapper, lead vocal,
    Youngji: Maknae, Lead vocal

14:59 yes you got it right
They were the most famous second-gen girl in Japan.
That's very unfortunate for Korean fans.
In a situation where they had to increase my popularity in Korea, they entered Japan and was only active in Japan, so Kara was gradually pushed back by other girl groups and lost thier profile.

Main rapper and main dancer is actually the one in pink! Her name is Nicole. And the youngest members are on both ends. They’re 94 line, the one on the far right is youngest though.
Also! If you want a rock song you should check out Seungyeon’s (skirt with white and black shirt) solo Guilty! Jiyoung (your apparent bias/the one on the left), also did a song with similar vibes called Wanna do.
They all have solo songs actually

I'm so glad I ran into your channel! It's been a while since I stopped watching reaction channels, but I really enjoyed your energy and personality. When I tell you I cried big fat tears seeing them together again, I really thought this day wouldn't come. I'll share a bit of info on Kara, since I come from the forum days, lol! There are 7 girls who can claim they were members of Kara. They debuted with four members, Gyuri (the middle one, leader/lead vocalist), seungyeon (left of Gyuri, main vocalist), Nicole (right of Gyuri, pink shirt, main rapper/sub vocalist/dancer), and another girl who left because her parents wanted her to get an education. When she left, Kara added 2 girls, Hara and Jinyoung (far left, constantly dancing, vocalist/rapper/dancer). When they became 5, they also changed their sound (you should listen to their debut song "break it" it sounds and looks so different to the rest of their discography) and skyrocketed from there. They were the first girl group to make it in Japan and are still popular to this day. Of course after contracts expired Nicole and Jinyoung would leave and DSP would add a new member through a survival program ( fun fact, some members of April would participate in this program). Youngji (far right, sub vocalist) would become the new member to make them a 4 member girl group. She would only do 2-3 comebacks before Kara disbanded (she started during mama mia). Fun fact: there was never a sub-unit but they all (the core 5) were able to put out solo mini projects. The group was also known as the most visually prettiest group and Hara was the it girl before all other it girls. Also, Gyuri might seem less animated because she is that way, always has!
