Honestly I really like the idea of introducing bosses and dungeons into the game without telling players exactly where and what they are, and just letting the players discover them on their own.
It's a fun idea in theory, but ultimately you want your players to have buy in before you spend all that time making assets. And then you've spent all that time, it would be a shame for players to not go to the things you make.
Killing KBD in classic was extremely stressful. Even with the best gear and decent stats he could wreck you. Getting there was an entire process and by the time you go to him, you likely started using food already. I wanna say on average I would be able to get around 2 kills solo (not maxed) before having to teleport out. It was worth it to chase that sweet dragon medium though!

OG player here, this brings back a lot of memories lmao, and was very accurate in regards to players camping out to see if higher level players would die. There was a lot of dead time waiting for high level players, and a pretty common ‘minigame’ came about where we would challenge each other to run to the other end of the lair and back (it was a tight zone and avoiding the aggro or surviving 3 rounds of combat with the KBD was hard, but the first two rows of tiles after the lever were functionally a safe zone from aggro).

I love how you comment things and the edition, you are one of the best if not best OSRS content creators, just wanted this early comment chance to say it to you
A suggestion I've had for something to do with KBD, was add larger quantities of the components for dragon ammo to his drop table. Between Brutal Black Dragons, Vorkath, etc. being added, you're right, there's not a lot of reason to go to KBD over anything else that'd been added since. While a mechanics overhaul might not be to our taste, we could at least establish a niche for KBD to fill -- make him the best spot to go to for something that's always in demand, dragon ammo.
In Final Fantasy 14 the trial/boss fights have harder versions and they do this by telling the story of how you heroically defeated the boss, the bard sings the tale of your heroic battle and you "relive the battle" but it's the more dramatic retelling of how the battle originally happened. Do this in Runescape and they could keep the old fight while introducing the new Ultimate Chaos King Black Dragon with some of the most intense mechanics.
Love your videos fr. appreciate the time you take to share all the details. Been playing on n off since 2003 and love to hear the history and see how the game has evolve today. 💯 keep up the content and thank you
Love me the KBD, I still have a video somewhere on YT of KBD that I used for a "How To" project in school and I got an A+ and extra credit and it's bad lol I recently got 99 magic and was using magic back then as a kid and the gear I was using.. God so so bad. Awesome video as always!
I think their is a middle ground here. You make a new boss "emperor black dragon", which is heavily inspired by KBD in asthetic but takes all the modern mechanics osrs uses for bosses now. Make it the STRONGEST boss. Maybe you have to get a drop from KBD to access the Emperor Black Dragons lair. Lore wise maybe it is the KBD but in its "True" form?
To be fair, originally at least the very point of OSRS was that it would be an unchanging time capsule; only adding updates to patch bugs or exploits. The fact that it is now basically unrecognizable from release at all... Maybe it is time for an OSRS2, reboot harder?
I think the most mind blowing thing about classic is the amount of players who don't realize there were barely any of us who actually used Paralyze Monster + monk robes the way we use protect from melee in rs2. I remember learning about it when someone posted "I KILLED MY FIRST BLACK DEMON!!! Here's how!!!" and they had gotten an adamant bar too :) And then I proceeded to never get 40 prayer.
the marriage happened to correlate a real royal wedding in the UK at the same time, there was a lot of buzz about it at the time and diango still gives the items from that event today in rs3
10:32 and that's the only reason I'm hunting for a KBD head drop. Want to mount it in my house for nostalgic reasons. Same reason I have the "Old Demon Mask". I wish there was a way to enable old NPC models from 2004-2006. Honestly KBD does not need major overhaul, it only needs a drop table buff to make it worth while and no sub 1 M dragon pickaxe does not cut it...
I don't mean to make it sound like you (video creator) don't know this (I don't know if you do or don't) but not telling players about content updates in MMOs was actually pretty common practice back in those days. MMOs weren't polished like they are now, and content didn't, at its core, take long to finish- so most of updates' appeal was part of the "hunting" for new locations, good training methods, creating player guides, etc. This made communities feel a lot more connected imo.
The experience was more mythical, and rumored. "There's a Black Dragon in the Wilderness, we're gonna go kill it" is a badass way to start an experience. Who knew if you were even telling the truth, or if you just wanted to lure people into the Wilderness lol It's cool af :) I love the past's MMOs.
I think the obvious solution is to expand. KBD isn't really the "king" - whoever first found KBD called it that, but it's actually just a black dragon that pissed off a witch or something. There's an actual King Black Dragon even deeper in the wilderness that fits the niche as the new strongest boss.
That or just bring in Queen Black Dragon, but obviously to fit into OSRS. Like we got Arraxor, which wasn't even pre-EOC, lmao. IIRC she's like level 900 or something.
Honestly I think we need more quirky oldschool bosses like kbd. I think they are the kind of boss that makes osrs fun. It's just a unique really high level monster with simple mechanics that doesn't really have much else to it and doesn't print supplies as drops.
Little feedback here! I really enjoy these history videos and how you have seen so much work on clips and stories, thanks for that! I havent played osrs for many years, because I dont have time for that, I still keep watcing your and Limpwurts videos. Even though you are really handsome guy and have really nice setup in back of you, personally I liked more when there were not real life clips between. The osrs character in POH with black partyhat was better imo. Again, no offense to you! I think its just the osrs style, maybe it breaks the illusion that all we are adults now.
This is the first time I’ve ever actually immediately paused a video, open its sponsored ad, and got something from it. The second I saw that Jad I had to have it
Asheron's Call had the same issue with Pooky. Trust me, the having your king monster is worth it. Jagex should just change the colors on drops before and after. it gives HUGE value to those items from before they change.
Maybe give the KBD a challenge mode where you fight a reworked version of him that’s heavily powered up? It doesn’t replace the original but also gives him a new life
Colonello: What's she taking next? His hand in marriage? Me: Oof that joke's not gonna land. Colonello: Wait, that actually happened in RuneScape 3. Me: Oh... Oh no....
If you've seen what they did for echo bosses in the league, I'd like them to do something like that for older bosses like KBD and KQ. So you can choose to fight the normal version, but once you get a certain drop you can unlock the option to fight an updated version with better combat mechanics and loot. Then the original boss can still be preserved and everybody's happy, right?
I would support a KBD rework, even if it’s just a drop table update. Swap his drop table with the Brutal Black dragon table or hell even introduce a super-anti dragon fire shield exclusively dropped by him that nullifies all forms of dragon fire including blocking the freezing effect from Wyverns while still keeping the strength bonus of the dragon fire shield. This creates a simple progression and highlights the individual strengths of the wyvern and dragon fire shields as pure defensive or pure offensive off hand items respectively. And maybe that’s not even the right move, but a KBD refresh would be fun. Perhaps update his dragon fire mechanics to be more in line with how the Drake’s dragon fire works so that if you don’t click out of the way when he uses it it hits you with a massive damage splat(reduced somewhat by anti-dragon items) and if it is the green or blue variants then you take extra poison or stat drain on top of that damage. And fix the heads so that depending on which head cocks back to breath you can telegraph which type of blast it will be. Hell you could even have it so he mirrors the metal dragons where each fire type is a different attack style, blue for magic/stat drain , green for ranged/poison, orange/red for normal dragon fire. Leave out the venom and crumble undead and acid pools and he becomes a lesser form of Vorkath that is a nice simple medium-tier mechanical introductory boss ladder step that sits right above Scurrius.
Sooo yeah - I remember staying home from school when the KBD was released and no - it wasnt really much of a secret, it was swarmed pretty much within the hour because people didnt rely on game maps or release posts for info anyways. Most people werent killing eachother either, only a few people were taking the opportunity to PK. Killing it was relatively simple because of the amount of players there, but whoever got tagged by it and didnt range/mage from the sides were pretty much dead. And in terms of loot, at the time whoever got the drop wouldnt be announced in chat so noone would know, and it wasnt even based on doing the most damage but rather just having the last succesful hit - which meant anyone at any level could get lucky really...
I actually have a f2p account where I’m trying to buy a bond with gp just to see how doable it is, I just need a few more quests and a couple more combat levels and I think I can get him I’ve actually never fought kbd since back in the day everyone told me to skip it since it wasn’t worth even getting to the fight so this was some useful info, thanks
I like kbd, cuz its one of the few bosses where adding more alts dosent make it more click intensive. Easily fit in 12 accs and just pot share between them and youre only really clicking on like 4, its wonderful
I'd like to see them give KBD the echo treatment in the real game; make KBD 2, or introduce a version where you have to fight king and queen black dragon at the same time. Keep the original KBD as is, but add a new version that's still mechanically simple but just harder with a new loot table or better odds or something.
Honestly, rather than updating old bosses to relevance, I would just add a new stronger variant. Emperor Black Dragon. Suddenly it can have a whole updated model design and mechanically be an absolute menace. I would double down and add him as the finale to a boss rush dungeon. Suddenly you gotta go through a gauntlet of iconic updated bosses with new loot drops, only for EBD to finish ya off
Your videos brought me back to RuneScape after quitting in 2009 at rank 100-200 of the high scores. Unfortunately, I quit because of being hacked while at college and the hacker botting on my account, having it rolled back by some percentage of my XP. It made me realize it was like playing an elder scrolls game where your save could be erased at any point. And I think the lack of customer support still exists today 🙄
Add a few new drops to KBD that makes the draconic visage even better and turns it into a black/dark version, black dragon boots, and a black d hide cape that adds prevention to dragon breath... Or something new to its drop table with new mechanics.
they could simply just turn it into a f2p boss and make visage/dfs also free to play, basically would be the toughest f2p boss around with a new bis shield to boot. or could just keep the dfs/visage as members only and just add something new to it as a means to make it desired to kill the boss as a f2p player, also making the pet the only f2p pet would be cool too.
i hope they add the "echo" mechanic to bosses in the main game like the DT2 bosses so old bosses don't have to be removed but can be revitalized with unique mechanics and loot
You could use paralyze monster but needed to prayer flick since your prayer was only drained to 1, not zero The biggest challenge of the boss was not being able to see the HP unless you ran far from it, relying on counting damage
KBD is still the strongest natural dragon :) Brutals only exist because Skotizo created the Catacombs with a God Artifact, so they get their power from that. Vorkath was created by the DragonKin as an undead dragon
Maybe they could add a quest where you fight a king black dragon of a unique name that modernizes and boosts its power. King is a title after all and it’s clear the original has been usurped.
They easily could just introduce a hard mode variant in both versions of the game if they so wanted to. In fact, they already kinda do have a hard version in RS3 already with the Wilderness Flash Events, but it's pretty much impossible to fight it alone under normal circumstances.
Yeah i really don't think they should change 20+ year old legacy content too much. Fiddle with drops or add fun uniques maybe, but otherwise he's fine just chilling there.
In rs3 we also have the Queen Black Dragon, who's 100 times his size and almost four times his level (in rs3 lore she's the first dragonkin, kbd is her first clone)

11:37 Song?
Yeah I think it is
I think a cool black dragon quest is in order.
Imagine finding the KBD's father after all these years.
Great video, always love a runescape history dive. Not sure the title is exactly bang on though, compared with the content of the video.
Brutal King Black Dragon on the way? He certainly deserves a bit more love.
Love the content man, i remember when KBD come out and getting absolutely wrecked by it haha, anways man thank you for all your videos they rock!
Love me the KBD, I still have a video somewhere on YT of KBD that I used for a "How To" project in school and I got an A+ and extra credit and it's bad lol I recently got 99 magic and was using magic back then as a kid and the gear I was using.. God so so bad.
Awesome video as always!
They should rework the KBD where all 3 heads attack separately and at 1/3 health lost a new head is defeated.
And now we have the Echo Version, who I'm calling the King Brutal Dragon.
Thanks for dropping this while I farm slayer tasks in leagues ❤
4:45 We were literally scum until they changed how items were dropped LOL
killing it with the content bro
I got 70 of those heads
I don't mean to make it sound like you (video creator) don't know this (I don't know if you do or don't) but not telling players about content updates in MMOs was actually pretty common practice back in those days. MMOs weren't polished like they are now, and content didn't, at its core, take long to finish- so most of updates' appeal was part of the "hunting" for new locations, good training methods, creating player guides, etc. This made communities feel a lot more connected imo.
The experience was more mythical, and rumored. "There's a Black Dragon in the Wilderness, we're gonna go kill it" is a badass way to start an experience. Who knew if you were even telling the truth, or if you just wanted to lure people into the Wilderness lol
It's cool af :) I love the past's MMOs.
Great vid! What song did you use at 10:35?
I think the obvious solution is to expand. KBD isn't really the "king" - whoever first found KBD called it that, but it's actually just a black dragon that pissed off a witch or something. There's an actual King Black Dragon even deeper in the wilderness that fits the niche as the new strongest boss.
So verak lith?
That or just bring in Queen Black Dragon, but obviously to fit into OSRS. Like we got Arraxor, which wasn't even pre-EOC, lmao. IIRC she's like level 900 or something.
KBD will always be a King.
I don't think OSRS will change its RS3 lore.
I’ve never played RuneScape but I love this channel!!!
9:01 they probably didnt remove it because it’s much harder to remove something entirely than to leave it in the game
6 videos in a little over a month? This man is spoiling us!
Great video man! Watched it all :D
And in terms of loot, at the time whoever got the drop wouldnt be announced in chat so noone would know, and it wasnt even based on doing the most damage but rather just having the last succesful hit - which meant anyone at any level could get lucky really...
more lore about RuneScape's history
Love this dudes content.
Literally never played RuneScape yet you’re story telling is good enough that it’s still interesting
I actually have a f2p account where I’m trying to buy a bond with gp just to see how doable it is, I just need a few more quests and a couple more combat levels and I think I can get him
I’ve actually never fought kbd since back in the day everyone told me to skip it since it wasn’t worth even getting to the fight so this was some useful info, thanks
Unpopular opinion: I actually really like Creator Crafted's stuff
they could simply just turn it into a f2p boss and make visage/dfs also free to play, basically would be the toughest f2p boss around with a new bis shield to boot.
or could just keep the dfs/visage as members only and just add something new to it as a means to make it desired to kill the boss as a f2p player, also making the pet the only f2p pet would be cool too.
i hope they add the "echo" mechanic to bosses in the main game like the DT2 bosses so old bosses don't have to be removed but can be revitalized with unique mechanics and loot
You could use paralyze monster but needed to prayer flick since your prayer was only drained to 1, not zero
The biggest challenge of the boss was not being able to see the HP unless you ran far from it, relying on counting damage
Wow, those osrs merch looking good
I loved echo boss KBD it was a fun take on it!
I always do KBD on black dragon tasks for the pet chance. Makes me feel cool since I could never beat it as a kid
KBD is still the strongest natural dragon :)
Brutals only exist because Skotizo created the Catacombs with a God Artifact, so they get their power from that. Vorkath was created by the DragonKin as an undead dragon
Maybe they could add a quest where you fight a king black dragon of a unique name that modernizes and boosts its power.
King is a title after all and it’s clear the original has been usurped.
At this point you've given me more knowledge about OSRS than I have earned in total levels. 🤦🏼🤦🏼😆😆
8:55 use it as gladiatorial arena! Lol thats what I would repurpose it for.
Colonello’s pupils are big af even though there’s bright lighting. I think the boy might be driving that train the same way Casey Jones did… either that or just addys potentially - and maybe not but I’d bet some type of stim. (Sorry to call you out my boy, your videos are relaxing and nostalgic even though I haven’t played RS in over 20 years)
Or maybe a bright light point at him like every other content creator 😂🤡
@ Yeah I don’t think you understand how pupils work buddy… that would make them smaller. Pupils shrink in bright light and get bigger in dark light unless you’re on something. Still feeling good about that clown emoji? I’d edit your comment before too many people realize how dumb you are.
@@haydenbain3633my comment got deleted or something so I’ll repost it. I wouldn’t be so quick to post that clown emoji when you don’t even understand how pupils work lol. They get smaller in bright light and bigger in dark light - that’s why I pointed it out in the first place. You should edit/delete your comment and save yourself some embarrassment
@ imagine being embarrassed over UA-cam comments. 😂🤡 go outside little one
@ Ron Kenny the drug addict thinks I so be embarrassed 😭🤡
If you haven't seen echo KBD yet, check it out. Definitely a very fun variation of the boss. I would love to see it in the main game.
Your videos got me playing OSRS and in two or three weeks I’ve already got more progress and better gear than my original account had over many years. Thanks for rekindling the addiction lmao
Camping the lava maze tele hunting KBD farmers is more entertaining than the boss itself. They should add something to its lair
Huh, so that’s why the queen black dragon is so angry all the time
0:50 lol jagex abandoned polls a while ago and only do it sometimes to appeal to the average redditor. Look at the changes they made to the bark wizard or the character screen.
We need old school runescape classic 😂
That is the ONLY way i could get back into it at this point lol 😂 @@jdgcha
one time i took a bunch of mushrooms and watched your videos for like 8+ hours straight no breaks
How do I buy those potions behind you
Not so much abandoned as power crept without wanting to get rid of the old boss
12:03 - Shrek Spotted (Top Right)
hahah, that's actually my player character standing next to my fiancee's! Ever since I took over filming and editing for nello I hide little easter eggs like that in every video. There's a ton of little stuff I leave for both our friends and the rest of the viewers to find!
Voting is good due to the fact on how RS3 turned out, but the days where they released updates with no information were definitely golden.
They kinda just dropped a boss with Amoxliatl. Not 100% yeah, but i'd love more like that. Maybe drop a boss with no "rewards" then poll the rewards later.
Also they should use the old lair for a quest encounter with him, or a queen black dragon.
