I love this series and if you ask me how it might evolve I’d personally like to see you put together your own book or zine. I’m a photographer who you’ve inspired to publish my work and it feels like your mail time series is the best source of information that can help inform those like me make good decisions around layout, telling a story, etc. Think Ted’s Master Class on publishing a photo book. Heck I’d pay for that actually.
New York Unseen is my favorite book purchase of the last 12 months. Highly recommended and I am glad to hear your favorable commentary on it.
Love “New York Unseen” so atmospheric- off to buy a copy!
Wow, New York Unseen features some really great photographs. Particularly love the one on the right at 3:32 - the colours, the abstraction, the composition reminds of Saul Leiter and I love it!
Bought the book - it’s excellent!
Angel Rafael's zine is great, especially for a first-time effort, and I hope he continues down that path. I found it interesting because it's actually very similar to how I create art & photography ebooks, which are optimized for smartphone and tablet screens. They're all basically 5.5 x 8.5 digital comics, if you want to get technical, and one of these days I promise to finally show everyone out there how they can be made.
Much thanks for these videos, as always.
I just finished your Composition lessons and went out and practiced, you literally changed my life haha, thanks! You brought a lot of value on youtube
My week is now complete. Thanks for sharing!
i love this series the last zine was so good my personal favorite photograph id sudak
thanks for your hardwork, recently submitted and hoping you keep this up, your a legend for doing it!
Thank you so much for Luc Kordas! Just ordered the book moments ago.
New York Unseen looks phenomenal. Some stellar photography in there. Loving these videos Ted. Keep going. Been watching your videos so long you’re a staple.
This is great and I agree with the small scale in producing images. The few gallery shows I've had I have always made prints in my darkroom that were never bigger than wallet size. I love making tiny prints, it's fun squeezing my head between the enlarger and the table. They always look wonderful. Thanks for a great video!
Please do not stop !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
You're always inspiring... And you're the only person who I've watched all the videos. By the way, I like the workshop idea, and I am looking forward to hearing more. :)
I actually forgot that I sent this. 😂 Thanks for discussing my work.
Ted! Thank you for checking out my zine! It is humbling, to say the least. I worked very hard on the book, and hearing you speak so highly of it gives me a great feeling of joy and accomplishment. Thank you for being the badass that you are!
I just started watching your mail time stuff, just as they are. As for what I'd love to see you do in general, I would absolutely love to see a 'how to make a zine' series that covers the printing stuff.
Since you asked and this is in no way any kind of criticism. 1)Guest Hosts: The channel could feature guest hosts to bring new voices and styles to the content 2) Challenges: The channel could issue challenges to its viewers or other photographers to encourage creativity and experimentation. It also creates inclusivity 3) Behind-the-Scenes: The channel could offer behind-the-scenes looks at photo shoots or editing processes to give viewers a glimpse into the creative process 4) Mini-Series: The channel could create mini-series on specific topics or themes to provide more in-depth coverage and exploration. 5) Interviews: The channel could feature interviews with photographers or other artists to provide insights and inspiration. But the reality is I kinda just like whatever you put out there, whether its gear reviews, looking at other peoples work past and present or whats happening in the world of photography.
On point 2, Ted did this a few years ago with a project called photo assignments. If you go back through his videos you’ll find them they were very good
Heading to Italy in Oct 2024 for the second time in my like, it will be part of my cruise itinerary, hoping to stay an extra day before and after …. Hoping for some different shots this next time to add to my other shots from 2019…. ;)
I am usually not a big fan of commercials in video clips (i pay youtube to decrease the amount of commersials), but I really liked your presentation of squarespace. It inspires… :-)
Mail Time is one of my favorite things. An improvement would be more photo and less talking head. Things flash by so fast I have barely time to take them in.
I would like to see the series from the hotel room balcony. That actually sounds like a very interesting idea!
Mailtime is the only time I watch.
Im' Starting to do photobooks related to different places I visit in The USA, Cruiseship Vacations, people and other stuff. I already have like 4 photobooks. Starting to make more, it become an addiction jaja. Cheers from Puerto Rico, love to see work from My island too
Great! But I miss the knive part :)😂
Dont change it - It's working. Keep it casual.
i mean second channel would be an option were you invite other photographers through an online call and all of them give their opinion that way it could be done more regulary
I'm waiting to see where mail time goes to. It's an interesting series. * I seriousloy dislike Zoo City. But, that's me. However, tht does look like an interesting book.
Would you mind recommending places to print zines? I can only find companies doing books.
Something seems to be up with Luc’s website
HI ted, searching in vain, I can't find anything on mockette. Any further leads you can provide on learning more about this?
I love this series. Full stop. (Yes, pun intended.) The passion, knowledge, entertainment, and education are so rich. However you choose to transform this series for the future, I hope it is successful. These videos are some of very few on UA-cam that I have gone back to the beginning, watched, and even rewatched. I eagerly wait for mail time videos to be posted each week.
Thank you for sharing such an amazing gift with all of us.
p.s. I am trying desperately to finish my book this year to send it in while this is still happening. But I want to be sure it does the story justice and is worthy of the viewer’s time.
What pun?
Very interesting info, especially the advice for the prezine. I'm trying to Google "machete," "maket" "ma??" and Google is selling me big knives and Mustangs (Mach jet?) Can you please help me with the spelling so I learn more? Thank you :)
Maquette ;-)
@@theartofphotography thank you :)
It’s a good thing you don’t have a wife, because she would be saying, when are you going to get rid of all of this shit!. So, I guess you’re planning on taking the initiative of cataloguing ALL of your mailings to a warehouse. Because so many people have sent you amazing items, but right now you can’t find your bed.🧐😝
Gonna hafta start a library of contemporary photography. Maybe a special room of the Dallas library.
That will be one fantastic library, and you’ll never have to worry about being bored. Also, do you think you’ll ever be able to create another series on photographers, conversing with any of a myriad of talented film photographers and peeking into their inner sanctum of creativity (their darkrooms)? I KNOW there’a a lot of expense and time to produce those videos, but maybe??? You are a great docent and presenter!
