I've followed all the steps to a T, but for some reason, whenever I play the animation nothing seems to happen. The flat rectangle stays the same. Any suggestions as to why?

First delete by type history, create a duplicate of that pillow and export as obj.

Duplicate the object and then clear the history.
If it still doesn't work restart your software.

If you make that object a collider then yes
How do I change the size? it won't let me after I've made it look like a pillow
Duplicate the mesh and scale that to change the size.

That's why you don't have and FX features.
Maya LT doesn't have any fx or dynamic options.
You've to use standard version of Maya.
Were do I find the tiny box that scales it
Press R to scale
Or you can find scale in left side panel
