In the dementia study, “Patients who had been previously treated with medications for their ADHD for more than 6 months or were taking such medications at the time of baseline examination were not included.” In the earlier study we saw that increased risk of dementia was not seen when adults with ADHD were treated with stimulant medication. This makes me think that untreated ADHD is the more concerning risk factor. It reminds me of how untreated hearing loss increases risk of dementia. Treating conditions like hearing loss and ADHD seems to mitigate their potential risks.

I noticed the same thing. Plus was unsure if unmedicated prior due to late diagnosis or prior diagnosis, but without medication pursued. Generally, the Israeli study from earlier makes me wonder about stimulants as preventatives - in that study people with ADHD were threefold likely to get dementia, but if they had been treated with stimulants for the ADHD that increase of risk was negated. Seems like this study did not look into that specifically, but man, I am hoping someone is currently. Different countries have a lot of different protocols for treatment or lack of in cases of ADHD, with variations in medications available as well.

I can't understand why chiropractors are legal. They are blatantly lying at best and irresponsible and dangerous at their worst.
A lot of my patients visit them for a variety of reasons and they are all under the impression that they are medically trained.
    It's awful.

Not all of them are liars, but it does have a weird aura around it where some chiropractors are really out there claiming they can cure anything and everything, it's really ridiculous.
On the other hand, if you go to a chiropractor for chiropractor stuff, they can be incredibly helpful - a single treatment from one took my sciatica pain from "crying while putting on my pants" to almost nothing. A couple of treatments and changing my desk ergonomics at work wiped it out entirely.

I suspect ADHD-related lack of sleep is a causal factor for dementia risk. Certainly I struggle with getting sufficient sleep, and that seems to relate to brain fog etc. One needs sleep to maintain the brain in good health.

The Israeli study that showed ADHD patients having threefold risk of dementia showed the increased risk being negated if they had been taking methylphenidate. From what you are saying, it sounds like the first study you mentioned (LBD) did not address what treatment plans were pursued prior to development of LBD and/or dementia, but I certainly would be interested in knowing. Hoping these potential benefits of medications are being investigated and not just the risks.

While not surprised they didn’t find a between groups effect - they seem underpowered, so had no chance of finding one unless it was very large (quite unlikely). So we can’t conclude much from an underpowered study.

With these "possibilities" does any type of treatment help against the development of these, or we just sit back after the diagnosis and wait to see which axe would fall?

Dr. Barkley thank you so much for your videos!. All my family have ADHD and we struggle a lot with histamines and allergies. I wonder if allergies can cause neuroinflammation or problems with the vague nerve, and these increase ADHD symptoms.
Thank you so much in advance for your answer.

All I'm saying is that I have always loved to have scalp massages. I feel like they just hit me differently than other people. Tonight, ironically, I was doing that to my daughter because she's had a rough week, well months at school. (Struggling with what I'm thinking is ADHD. Me, my sister, my parents, her dad possibly, her dad's brother all have ADHD.) I'm going to see how her day was tomorrow when she comes home from school. She loves scalp massages.
