Thank You Sir!!!! I just dropped my 2016 off at the dealer for this very same issue. So, I called them to put the key in it and put it off to the side I'll pick it up later. You probably saved me and ton of dollars. Again thank you Sir!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

For those coming to this video to fix their issue:
Sealant is used to hold the track in place "permanently" (mine dropped earlier this year [2016 F-150] so clearly it is not permanent).
Double-sided tape is used to hold the track in place until the sealant sets up.
I have seen several comments railing on Ford for using "four pieces of tape to hold the window in place." This is simply NOT true.
I ABSOLUTELY think the sealant is a very poor design but its just silly to think that anyone would use just four pieces of tape, especially with the sealant (clearly visible) attached to the truck and its residue on the track. The stuff is there for a reason so yeah, it might be important... Find out what it is, why its there and do your best to repair it as well, or better, than the original.

This is a GREAT instructional video. I have a 2015 with 50K miles and seems like a lot of owners have the same problem. A $50k+ lariat which has been a great truck and this is ridiculous that Ford requires the replacement of the complete unit. It will be a while before I'm in the market again for a new truck but this definitely will make me think twice of a third F150. Thank you for posting this.

You made an excellent video. I appreciate you showing the steps you took to remove, clean, and adhere the piece; rather than just try to explain it with just audio. The exact thing is happening with mine and now I have a good idea of how to repair this thing. The dealership told me I would have to leave the truck for 4 or 5 days due to a special glass repair. I’m glad I turned them down and not pay around 1500 bucks. Thanks again!

Thanks for a great video. I have the exact problem. Can’t believe engineers got away with this design on a 65k truck. I did my repair twice trying with just the double sided tape. First batch of tape did not work. Well the second fix with the tape was better, but still an issue. The flex shot is a definite necessity to make this repair a success. Heading back out there right now to add the flex shot. Thanks again for the video. Saved me about $1,375.00 dollars.

This just happened to my 15 F150 two weeks ago. Wasn’t sure how to fix it, and this video will definitely help. My 2015 f150 Lariat just happened. I’m going to try with the two sided tape tomorrow and will most likely need to redo with the sealant. I called ford dealer and they referred me to an upholstery shop. I called but no answer so I have no idea what they charge. Just sort of dumbfounded that Ford didnt want to fix this for me but referred me to someone else.

Great video. Happened to my sons F150. Helped him fix. We used the same 3M tape and reapplied to same areas along with a black “urethane” based caulk (material used for windshield replacements) to reattach. Easy fix and way cheaper than what the dealership would have charged.

FYI, the sealant needs to be replaced. So you scrape that away and Apply 3M Single Step Primer, then apply 3M Window-Weld. The two sided tape is just used to hold in place while the window-weld sets. If you don't have a means to apply pressure to the window for an hour or so for the window-weld to set, try rolling and stuffing a towel between window and back seat head rest.

The tape holds the glass in place until the sealant can dry. The sealant is window sealant used to glue windshields into place. In this case it's used to glue the track to the glass.

There was a Tim that 3m was the leader in adhesive product. But if you notice 3m products seem to fail. Mostly in the cooler damp times of the year. Metal tracks get cold and tape fails. I’ve used hair dryers to warm the tape and it seems to reactivate the adhesion compounds . Or better yet use a outside auto trim type glue. It’s made to take the elements..

Brian - great video! I feel your pain and hard to fathom Ford QC approved 4 tiny pieces of tape to hold rear window in place. $65k for 2015 F150 King Ranch would expect aluminum aircraft rivets holding aluminum track (not plastic) in place. Should be a F150 recall full stop. My rear power window upper track fell forward (2") while working in North Carolina and I had to drive 1,650 miles back to Colorado through intermittent rain. Total joke Ford! Get your act together and RECALL.

I just had the same issue. The tape is there just to hold it until the adhesive sets up. I used permatex black adhesive sealant. You need to use shims and or tape to hold the window against the glass. The shims hold it in place with pressure. I let it cure for 24 hrs. And it worked out fine.

I also ran into this problem with my 2015 F150, looked at the F150 forums, got the tools, and did it exactly like you... used industrial surface cleaner for the application of the two sided tape... 2 layers is also what I used... still up after 6 months... I’ve done the double sided tape twice, now to put the flex seal on! Thanks! Just note, raise the center section of the track while pushing in on the sliding glass, and you will hear it pop into place. Other wise, you end up with wind noise and that aggravating rattle that started your whole process. Mine came new from the dealer leaking air, which the dealer fixed before I’d take the truck. • @michaelwill7811
      @michaelwill7811 Рік тому

Four pieces of double-sided tape, positioned across the unit on the raised rectangle areas is plenty.
You have to apply the sealant if you want the repair to last any length of time.
There is a reason why both are there:
The sealant holds the track "permanently" and the tape holds the track in place while the sealant is setting up.
