    Great job ! Best one I’ve seen so far. Have to do the same on my boat with rack and pinion steering. Thanks

    Very helpful. Especially the part about the number on the steering cable that will tell me the number of feet.

    Thank you for making this video. Had to call sea tow today because my steering failed in the middle of the ICW in NC. Getting ready to order my kit. I will definitely be using your video for the installation. Is there different size steering modules or are they all the same size and how did you choose a brand to buy?

    • @blockprojects

      Thank you so much! I’m glad it helped. The only measurement I did was to check the length that is printed on the current cable, there is a little section in the video on how to check it. The I just went off price and reviews on Amazon. Hope that helps. Let me know. Cheers!

    Great video! Just bought the same kit, but the 3 bolts that attach the bracket to the steering assembly (shorter, half threaded bolts) don’t seem to thread properly into the holes. I can’t finger tighten them very far at all. Am I missing something?

    this is a good how to but I would Grease the cable at the Helm.

    • @blockprojects
      @blockprojects  Рік тому

      Thank you, David! I did grease it right before I fed it through the hull but it’s a bit hard to see because the angle of the camera is tight on where I am feeding it through. It’s a good call, I should have made that clearer. I appreciate the feedback.

    Had you turned the wheel it would have most likely shortened the cable to give you enough room to put the cable in with out taking the motor loose. Still was a good video

    • @blockprojects
      @blockprojects  Рік тому

      Oh geeze! You are right! I could have pulled it all the way in and it may have been able to butt up agains it and screw right in. I wish I could do a pre-video to let folks know to try that. Well, I may to wait another 38 years to try it again. Lol Thank you for watching and for the feedback.

      @@blockprojectssimilarly, putting in the tube to catch the runout under the helm may have been a bit easier with less of the cable sticking out 😜 nicely done though!

    • @blockprojects
      @blockprojects  Рік тому

      Oh, yeah! That's true. Shoot! Iteration is the key to semi-perfection. lol. That's great feedback. That can apply to other cabling situations too, clutch cables, throttle cables etc. Thank you!

    • @blockprojects
      @blockprojects  Рік тому

      Hi! Thank you! Appreciate. Sorry you had to pull your engine. That’s a pain. One person commented that if I had retracted the cable all the way inside the housing by turning the steering wheel all the way to the left, it may have given me more wiggle room to feed it in to engine bracket. If that’s helpful. Good luck!

    CAN YOU BUY JUST THE BLACK HOSE THAT GOES ON THE CORKSCREW LOOKING CABLE? WE JUST BOUGHT A USED BOAT AND WE BELIEVE THAT LAST HOSE YOU PUT ON IS MISSING, THANK YOU

    • @blockprojects
      @blockprojects  Рік тому

      Hi, Are you referring to the housing that catches the cable as is pulls through the steering mechanism so the cable doesn't hit any of your wires and hardware under the helm? If so, I'm not sure where to get just that piece but I'm pretty sure you can fab something out of a piece of flexible hose or tubing. It's not structural. If you are talking about the actual housing, You'll need to buy a new cable with the housing already installed. Unless, you are talking about something else and I can dig a little deeper. Thank you!

    What is the name of the arm that attaches to the hydraulics on the outboard engine? I’m new to owning a boat and need to install this steering kit. My motor is a 1962 evinrude lark 3 and doesn’t have that arm 0:17 and the kits don’t seem to have them either. Where might I find one?

    • @blockprojects
      @blockprojects  Рік тому

      Hi Danny, Thank you for your comment. This is a mechanical system so it does not have hydraulics but I think you may be referring to the steering arm. The link didn't take me to the right part in the video. Are you looking at the very last step? If so, you can Google "outboard steering arm" and several universal options will come up.
      Here is one I found for Evinrude/Johnson: www.ebay.com/itm/235013495572?mkcid=16&mkevt=1&mkrid=711-127632-2357-0&ssspo=Nx5cgr98SBi&sssrc=2047675&ssuid=fvUWTE9YSLa&widget_ver=artemis&media=COPY
      Let me know if I'm barking up the wrong tree lol

    Vevor is a Chinese manufacturer they copied the old Morse steering helm exactly down to the bracket. Morse has been out of business for years

    • @blockprojects
      @blockprojects  Рік тому

      Thanks for your comment. It’s definitely a Chinese knockoff. But it’s pretty solid state and so far, it seems to be holding up well and functioning perfectly. There are better quality kits out there for sure but the install should be similar. Thanks again!

      They are priced well and I do know of people using them with no issues. It just amazes me how well they copied it the old Morse cables will even fit it

    • @blockprojects
      @blockprojects  Рік тому

      Hi, I totally agree. Thanks for the feedback. Those small sections with the hand held were a bit shaky. I left them in because the information was still pretty solid on the process. I have since learned to do better hand held and smooth out shaky footage in post. I think subsequent videos came out smoother, like Fixing Leaking Trim Cylinders and Installing Trailer Guides. Little by little!! Thanks again.
