I met a poor girl in 1973 in Cebu at a university. Most beautiful woman I ever saw. married her a year later and we have been together 44 yrs. Two sons. Most devoted wife, mother and friend ever born. Yes, you get the family. They ARE all about family, yours and hers. Put 7 thru university, they are successful now and am now called "Uncle Steve"..an honor. I love the Philippines "Tito Steve"

Jospeh, its best you admit at once that you made some higher initial investments to end up with so low monthly expenses, its different for someone who isnt established yet, and with such a low monthly amount from day 1 chances are they will never be fully established and can never start living cheap.
I got an american friend who retired in PH, he got 2,000 monthly pension but his filipna wife and their 2 kids make sure they are always broke, its a trap to many foreigners fall into, sending kids to private schools and letting the family have expensive habits, 2000 is nowhere near enough for such a lifestyle. 4,000 is a nice amount to spend per month, 742.50 barely covers a 2 night stay at a luxury hotel in Angeles, which says a lot about your definition of "VERY WELL".
Met an old guy who had a pension of 6,000 dollars monthly and just wow, i had some pretty awesome girlfriends in PH myself but his was better, and more than 3x younger than him. So 6,000 is a good goal =)

@@samaldini to buy property In the Philippines you have to marry a Filipino with the exception being a condo which you can buy. If you are married the Filipino owns 51% of the property. As for moving stuff over, I've heard of one or two people using a c can but most people just buy what they need there as it's much less of a headache and usually much cheaper.

My story is different than most. Met my Ormoc girl online by chance through a chatting app. After 2 divorces from American women, I wanted real change. We hit it off right away. She was a drop dead gorgeous 29 yr old. I was at 45 yrs old. She was 3 years in to her separation from her husband. 4 kids between them. She had a great personality and we really clicked. After 2 months chatting, I got my passport and flew there. Everything went great! We were a couple. I took great care of her and her kids. New apartment, new everything. Too big a heart I guess :/ Stayed a month. Went back home. Went back the next year. Fell in love. She definitely seemed to be too. Lots of real emotions. We got engaged. And since almost a full year before, I had been paying the lawyer there to process and push her annulment forward. Only finding out as time passed that her annulment was all but impossible to get done. 5k spent on just the lawyer by year 2. Still not to court for final approval. Keeping her and her family up the whole time. Sending an average of about $400 USD per month, not including the lawyer... and a lawyer here to get her visa paperwork ready. It all began to fall apart as I was around 30k deep into it and running out of income to send. Her and I had a fuss, which was rare. She wanted to move to a cheaper apartment to help, which was fine and appreciated but it was a few feet from her ex husbands door. She claimed it made since to help the kids but of course I took issue. She got angry. We broke up and it was never the same. I lost her, the money, all my hopes and dreams of having my pinay wife and was also in near financial ruin back home in N.C. We stayed in touch for awhile. She left to work in Manila for a bit after that. We stopped talking.
I realize I will be laughed at for this. I just wanted to share that yes I made some mistakes. Even though they were made with a pure heart to help her and be with her. It was the greatest moments of my life and I still have not moved on two years later and cry over her whenever the memories cross my mind. Be careful what decisions you make. Not everyone has been as fortunate as to get things with their Pinay girl to work out. Fairytales don't always have happy endings. If yours did work out, then good for you but remember to show understanding for others that did not. :((
Thanks for the video. Good advice.

Lots of good advice in this video that I strongly recommend following. I lived in Costa Rica for a few years before moving to Colombia, and watched the bar stools do a lot of Expats in, literally. Most of the Expats just hung around the bars drinking from morning to night with nothing else going for them. I can imagine how easy a man can fall into that pattern if you don't have a plan. Like the video suggest, get out and meet people, travel around the country and enjoy life!

Wish you the very best and hopefully adjust with her (perhaps with her family, lol j/k) and the environment. Jeremy Clodfelter presented good things on what/what-not-to-do. NO offense, but just be cautious on the woman herself (NOT saying if she's bad or not) because people do change (for better or worse) AFTER marriages. For security some people do make prenuptial agreements (in paper or in video), and these agreements does NOT have to be all about $$$.

I have my resident visa and can stay in PI for as long as I want, no marriage or other obligation. My observation so far is that PI is a valid SEA retirement option if you have common sense and not an alcoholic that just sits at the bar all day. The main thing is that you have some income from outside the country as a pension or dividend that pays the basics (rent, food etc.). From there its all about travel, girls, misc. If you dont have enough pension to cover anything because you buggered off early, then you gots what you gots.

Don’t mess up with internal matter, you re just a guest and don’t have to get involve in whatever problem that is not related to your purpose of being in the philippines. I don't think it's that the President doesn't like foreigners ,more that he doesn't like the way some of the foreigners behave there. I've seen it for myself with people that would politely be described in the West as "oddballs" with young girls, macho types thinking it's ok to eye up anything female in the Malls and all kinds of arrogance and ignorance in between. For too long these guys have been tolerated and trust me ,plenty in Britain would like to see a "behave yourself or get out" policy here instead of often seriously bad people being allowed to stay because of their "human rights".

I met her through Filipino Cupid and at the time I thought she was great and on point she was my first Filipino girlfriend and now I’ve met Del and much happier and I met her through a Filipino looking for friends site and she had only posted pics of her graduation and we got talking through that just a simple comment from me giving her congratulations on her achievements.

Excessive Drinking definitely does ruin most foreigners there. But the waitress will be willing to put out, its not like a western stripclub. Most foreigners make the mistake of staying in one place for too long. Its best to always be on the move and to keep a low profile. The province is deadly after dark.
Another tip would be to avoid family loans and sad luck stories. Cut the freeloader uncle and 2nd cousins who want to drink and gamble on your wallet

Sadly most Filipinos don't respect each other nor foreigners. So it's a little funny to ask for foreigners to all behave like model citizens. Take my neighbor who throws cigarette butts to my balcony, after mentioning it twice, he still keeps doing it. Of course if I complain too loud I'm the "arrogant foreigner". Where's the respect there...

Jeremy, I hope you keep these videos coming. I am a veteran on full VA disability (3000 USD Monthly) and thinking about closing down all my debt here in the states and then moving to the Philippines. I was there when the navy base was still active till 92. The place still has a place in my mind. I am looking to start a fresh new life and just can't seem to get that here in the states. I would have a number of questions to ask if you ever check these messages. Other than that, I have been surfing looking for videos that might answer my questions, the problem is finding ones that are up to date and not 4 or 5 years old as things can change such as visa requirements and such. I am leaning on the Philippines because there is a VA outpatient clinic in Manila and a handful of US based banks here which will make me having access to my pension easier for me to set up. Hope you keep getting these videos out and keeping us all up to date.

Years later when drugs were helping people live longer a counselor I worked with would point out all pretty girls that had AIDS and I would have been happy to sleep with those girls had I not known. I NEVER went bareback with any girl after that, always wore a rain coat no matter how pretty no matter how hot things got. I slept with 100's of girls and never caught anything, not a sore, not a wart, not a baby, nada. I am happily married and I can bareback all I want now and not worry about the wife catching anything. protect your Johnson at all costs and possibly save your life.

Frenky B. I see he didn't answer You, so I will, I Married a Filipina a couple yrs ago, and while it's true you marry the whole family that can be a good thing, my new in-laws are wonderful, caring honest people, and just like my Wife, they also go way above and beyond to make me feel welcome, some of friendliest people I have met in my 54 yrs, also be prepared, Filipinos Love to celebrate, especially birthdays, they will cook up a feast you wouldn't believe for these occasions, and these people really know how to cook! My in-laws even have a party and cook up a storm for my birthday when I'm not there for the occasion, I am truly blessed to have these people for in-laws. If you have a Filipino girlfriend you are a lucky man, although I'm sure there are some bad women there, as there is everywhere, my Wife would go to the ends of the earth for me, and is completely faithful, I have friends married to Filipinos also and they agree it was the best decision they have made. Also I have found that people in the Philippines are some of the friendliest people I have ever come across, much more so than people here in the States, just don't act like an idiot. This had been my experience, and I hope it helps you out, if your girlfriend is one of the good ones, Marry her, you'll be glad you did, I wish you well on your journey.

Frenky B, what Oliver meant was if you marry a filipina you marry the whole family, means to say the whole family is looking up to you financially, especially families coming from very remote areas and, yes poor. There are plus and minus points in it but mostly minus on your part.
It doesnt mean you can shag the whole family.
But this is not always the case, but this happens due to economic reasons. Also please bear in mind that this is a catholic nation and such they have this notion of extended family where a married son/daughter is still living on the same roof.

Jeremy good advice. I have been going there now three years. I would add, if going to get lucky, stay in Angeles city or Makati. Meet other expats or find Filipino friends. Travel with your friends to provinces. Most Filipino's are nice and respectful. Do Not do drugs or hang around people that do. Duterte is no joke. Everybody loves him and he is making the country better. So be respectful any where you go. You will be treated the same. If you are going to meet a good girl, get away from the big cities. I've done the crazy bar hopping thing. I've been to Tagatay, Gen San, Palawan, Coron, Baclor. I did meet my fiancee on DateinAsia. I did run into scammers on there. But only one or two. My wife is from the Philippines and she is a wonderful loving woman. Family comes first in the Philippines something that missing in western countries today. And yes family comes out of the woodwork when its time for a party or a gathering. To put in prospective for $300.00 you can put on a pig roast, beer, liquor and all the food for over 50 people the cost of one night out in the USA for 2 people. I get more from seeing the joy on the faces from people who have so little, then blowing the money on myself. We from the west have not had it that bad,we are spoiled in so many way. Its good to enjoy the simple things in life and yes its money spent on family you don't know but who cares its a party.... Just roll with it! My wife and I are just back from a 30 day vacation and had a hard time spending 80 dollars a day average. ( Just remember when you are on vacation they are on vacation too.) Just be smart with your money and make sure you have retirement income also. I talked to some who make it on as little as 600.00 us dollars a month and get by but it is tight!

I was forced to buy the house its a typical set up that its was grandmas house with her parents house built next door and her brother store on the other side of the house. When her grandmother was to die the house was to be sold and split between all the brothers and sisters. I figured in the long run it would be cheaper then sending extra money each month to support them and putting her brothers family out of work. As it is we send 150.00 to 200.00 dollars to support the family with basic needs. The Philippines social security or old age money that is supposed to be paid each month is not, they may get it every 3 months with no back pay. Its better to make them work for most of the money they get but help out on the short fall. As it is the 200.00 will pay water, electric, (moms part for tiny house) food, moms meds, and tv/internet load! So the cost of my water and electric bill in the USA it pretty much covers everything there! I told my wife the car payments and auto insurance money alone we can pay our bills in the Philippines that would be about $600.00 The one thing is food cost have gone up I find cost of eggs around 7 peso each or $1.58 per dozen all pork 260 peso per kilo or around $ 2.45 a pound rice has doubled in cost in the last six year since was there last. If I remember correct 6 years ago smokes per pack were around 50 peso now run around 90 peso per pack or $1.70 USD. Good bottle of rum will cost about 260 peso or about $5 USD. You can buy rock gut rum not aged for as little as 40 peso less then $ 1 USD. Hope this helps out other people thinking about over seas retirement go and stay in a place and buy like the locals. If you cant buy your meat/fish in an open market with no refrigeration or your rice from an open bag with bugs in it then stay away. Also remember this all your food needs to be stored in plastic storage bins with lids. It may be different in big cities but in the provinces this is how it is.

Best thing I can recommend is, get on the internet. Don’t go to the dating sites, but to the UA-cam videos such as this one. Learn from them. Heed their warnings. Never go to the Philippines, or anywhere, without a contingency plan.

100 to 300 thousands dollars wont last you 3 to 5 yrs . Pft I live with less in the US. To each their own. But if I had $300,000 I'd live 20 yrs comfotably....in the Phil's. Granted you'd have to take inflation in to account.

wish i saw your video 14 years ago hehe. met a filipina had a son and supported both of them. when i caught her messing around and got pregnant with her Bf i asked her to let me take my son to the USA and she agreed. He is 11 now and the best boy anyone could have and she is with the cement and rebar that i left behind. i did spend so much there building and supporting her but i have a son who is worth every penny i spent. i guess i met one of the bad ones so be careful. i still love phil and the people there but if your a foreigner to them your rich and they will tell you anything to get your money period. i should have bought a condo in makati and that would have been money well spent.

Its cool that Filipinas go the extra mile for their man, but honestly, I think they are looking at the big picture ultimately. "What can he do for my family"? "Any kids I have with him will have rights for citizenship in USA, AUS, Germany, etc". "Most Western guys will have a check coming from Social Security at retirement, and thats for life". "Maybe someday he takes me to his country, which has a safety net". It ain't the "white" skin and rounder eyes they are drooling over guys, its what you bring to the table. (If anything, they love light-skinned Korean boy bands). Never forget that you are a retirement plan, even if its a modest one.

You're generally correct. One thing about pinoys is the absolute loyalty to those close to them which is contrasted by the ambivalence towards strangers. Very little sense of community, especially in Manila.

    • @rawbomagaj1811

Yes a retirement plan but they take care of their foreigner husbands in return. They will not leave them in nursing homes. If they produce kids, they will take care of those kids. Just give them opportunities and they will make the most out of it. Please dont make it appear that the Filipina is the taking and you are the giving. Its more a give and take relationship. And what do you think of white women, arent they marrying for security too?

    • @jc41457
      @jc41457 5 років тому

@@rawbomagaj1811 I agree. White women r mostly about having it all n their best lives now! Cant trust any women to be honest! Lol. Look at adam n eve. Adam trusted eve over god n he got into big trouble...life goes on. I think I may be forever single n these videos help convince me of that.
