I saw your other video with this recipe when you used your poodle to demonstrate. I had decided when I got my previous Papillion puppy that I was going to cook all her food and not use any harmful chemicals on her for fleas and ticks. This recipe is absolutely the best I've ever used! My pitsky named Amazing Grace had used the topical chemicals and the chewable, along with a very expensive dog food, she died at only 7 years ago and I truly believe it was a combination of all the above. The only good thing was that Amazing Grace never knew what it was like to ever have a flea her entire life. I love this recipe because it works and it's totally non harmful! I check my Papillion every day, she is always in my lap and I just love brushing her soft coat. Thank you Doc, you truly are a blessing to our furbabies and us too. 👑🙏🏻💞✝️🐾🕯🕯🕯🕯🕯🕯
My dog use to be miserable we took him to the vet 4 times with no results. I watched your videos took your advice and my dog is happy again no more sore itchy ears. Thank you so much.
I have been using coconut oil for fleas orally and put all over her body for a long time. My last dog lived 15 years, her sister lived 18 years . My present dog is a dachshund Cocker Spaniel mix she will be nine years old next month. And I have use nothing but coconut oil on her she has no aches and pains. No arthritis so far. And I believe that it's due to the coconut oil I give her twice a day morning and night. Just a spoonful. Thank you for your show I really enjoy it I've learned a lot.
Doctor I am having one issue with my dog. Finding her a good homemade food. I'm presently giving her lean low fat ground beef. With carrots shredded into it and the nutrients they need for homemade food. Her breath doesn't smell her poop isn't mushy. But I do hear her stomach growl growl at night and I'm hoping it's not because of the ground beef. I wish I could just give her the Science Diet food but so much junk goes into canned dog food it's so scary. Any advice? Priscilla
Thanks Dr. Jones for sharing this fleas and ticks repellent. I would like to make it for my cat. I checked the price for the non alcoholic witch hazel extract costs about $18 for 2 ounces, and the recipe asks for 4 onces or 1/2-cup, is that right? Approximately how many applications will this formula allow, if applied once a week on a small cat?
Dr. Jones, you're awesome!! Such a blessing to have a veterinarian who sincerely care enough to share safe home remedies for our fur babies. I've learned so much from watching your videos. After watching our totally healthy 9yr old boxer slowly deteriorate and die within 5 days of taking a prescribed heartworm prevention medicine. I NEVER want to experience that again. Me and my 7month old yorkie are so thankful for you😊
Catnip and silvervine are also good pest repellents. Not sure if they're safe for dogs though. Fresh, non dried actually gives you the oil of the plants which is more effective. Or you could just buy the oils. Cat's don't just roll in it because it makes them happy, instinctivly they know it's multipurpose. Doesn't just work on fleas and tiks either, keeps mosquitoes away. Catnip is always talked about as the happy pill for our cats but it's other uses and benefits are often forgotten or overlooked.

1:38 1/2 cup witch hazel extract (non-alcoholic) 1/4 cup liquid coconut oil 3ml or 3 dropperfuls neem oil (this will be 1.7%; less than 2% is safe), heated to melt 10 drops cedarwood essential oil 10 drops lavender essential oil Place in spray bottle. Warm up if needed. Shake well. Mist dog lightly avoiding eyes, mouth. Use flea comb to spread oil in coat. Dogs 3x/week. Cats 1x/week.

I hope you are getting some monetary reward from all of this good info that you are sharing. This recipe has been great for all of my 5 cats who actually seem to like it and also for my mother who suffers from itchy skin. Within minutes any itch stops and seems to be helping fleas and ticks most importantly! Thankyou!
???QUESTION??? Is the Neem Oil safe for cats now? The reason I am asking is because I read a comment you made regarding another Neem Flea Remedy on July 2, 2021 where you stated this: "It is considered safe when used at 2% or less dilution topically - the issue is that cats are going to clean themselves and most likely ingest it, and this is why I do not recommend Neem for use on cats." I just want to verify that the Neem oil is safe for my Kitties before I spray it on them. Thank you so much and I love all of the wonderful information you share!
Neem oil is generally not recommended for use on cats, even in diluted forms. While neem oil can be beneficial for dogs and some other animals, cats are particularly sensitive to certain compounds, including essential oils and other natural products like neem oil. The primary concern with neem oil and cats is ingestion-cats groom themselves regularly, and if they ingest the oil by licking it off their fur, it could cause adverse effects.
A pinch of clay and a whole clove in the bottle if you want a little more oompfh........the thing is fleas adapt so adiing sometimes something else flease do not like and changing the recipe; ad a clove, or a drop of catnipoil, the clay also makes it set better om fur. I love this channel, it has helped me out so much !
Dr Jones has used the Thayers original in many videos so that’s what I used and the aloe in it is also good. They even have a lavender option. Use your best judgement people. If spray bottle scares your animal, soak a paper towel and wipe them with it. If you’re worried about the cat licking, put it on places they can’t reach.
I'm so excited that I came across your channel! My two kittens contracted fleas and the only remedy I know is food-grade diatomaceous earth. The issue is, no matter how safe it is for animals, it's a desiccant and can cause dehydration. I thoroughly rubbed my pets down with it last night and spread it all over my apartment. Thank you for sharing about this spray and I look forward to using it in the near future!
Wondering how the diatomaceous earth worked in your apartment? Mine suddenly has fleas somehow and I''m really nervous that they'll become out of control! My cat is an indoor cat, she's been in here for her whole life (1 year), so it's confusing re: the fleas origin, but I certainly don't want to use anything toxic! Here's hoping you had good luck with the DE...
Thank you for this recipe. I hate that we use poison on our dogs to repel flea and ticks. We could do the same for ourselves and stop putting so much poison on and in our bodies! You rock!!
Thank you. I will have to try this. My baby girl has been with me for almost 14 years and, now I cannot afford a vet visit. Doing the best I can. I never of the dog growing up and I've never had to do with late-stage life care.
Thank you Doc. I'll mix this for my Sweetses too. Just been shedding tears over my one large dog having two seizures, back-to-back. I gave him Manuka honey, after searching on the web and he could get up and walk to follow me to the kitchen and waiting on supper. I didn't have the oils on hand that you mentioned, but I will look into that.
I read that the red dye in a lot of commercial dog food can cause seizures (I only feed raw). Also, adding coconut oil to his food is supposed to be very effective in preventing seizures, Ima try that too.
@@hazmania4794 commercial food is worst. I cook for my dogs(used to feed them raw but one of them didn't like it). I add raw goat milk to their food(solutions pet products). One of my dogs got very sick last November. I found a holistic doctor and my dog is so healthy right now.
@hazmania4794 Hey just wanted to let you know that I don't know how many times my dog has had those seizures. But in the process, me and my husband pump his chest and give him breathe like cpr, and were always praying during the process and he comes back after a while. We give him a full dropperful of alcohol free black walnut and wormwood combination tincture, once everyday. I wash him with dawn once a week and I usually take off 1-2 fleas. Buy now I'm going to wash his bedding and do this concoction to keep them off. I also blend Papaya, pumpkin seeds, Turmeric, beets, bananas, and apples and put them into a baking mold for an everyday treat. It helps with paralyzing the worms from his ingesting them through biting. It's a continuous process but the black walnut definitely helps. He had this seizure/heart attack more than 10 times. But I give praises to Yahawah and he keeps him here with us 😀🥰
I have been trying to use a flea spray from one of Dr Jones' previous videos but my dog runs away when she sees the bottle. I will try his new mix. Out of all the natural approaches I have tried, rubbing a good amount of organic coconut oil into my dog's fur at night has been the most effective so far. In combination with frequent vaccuming, washing all the bedding or putting it out in the sun, giving fresh garlic (don't do this if you don't know amounts - my holistic vet said I should give half medium clove of garlic per day for my 7kg dog). I mix it into 1/2 tsp local honey and with a bit of coercion she will gobble it up.
My dog doesn't like this one. Just put it on the second time, and she walks away . She remembers the first time. I think it doesn´t only scare away ticks and flees, but also the dog itself. I think they realy hate the smell.
My dog used to run away as soon as I pickup a spray bottle also, but then I put it beside the door and leashes - once dog is on leash about to go for walk, I spray her fur (she can't run), and then we immediately go outside for walk, which promptly distracts from the fact I just sprayed her. So now, she is finally used to it and doesn't bother trying to run away when I pickup the spray bottle anymore.
I am now holding my hand over her nose🤣 , so that she doesn't inhale the fine spray as she used to sneeze from it. It works. I think once it's on her it's easier tolerated than when it floats in the air
@@ashapuri3114 I spray it in my hands, and then rub it on with my hands. That way i can also put it under her and between the paws. As soon as i put it on her, she starts to roll around on the carpet to try to get it off. Or outside rolling in the grass. She realy hates the stuff.
Thank you so much for all you do Dr. Jones, you have helped us so much with our little sausage dog who has been suffering with allergies. Thanks to home cooking, we have nearly got his skin back to its previous healthy condition. Unfortunately though, we are still struggling with his little saddlebags under his arms which he finds intensely itchy, we are having a hard time trying to figure out whether they are a sign of a food related sensitivity/intolerance or an environmental factor. Every time they get better and we treat with creams, they seem to come back straight away and the poor little guy itches them so much he has a large excess of swollen bald skin on his leg. In your experience are underarm sores food or environmental allergies? We wonder whether to start him on raw food and would like to do it ourselves, but we are unsure how long you have to freeze different meats for dependent on what protein source it is, any future videos on DIY raw feeding would be great. Thanks once again Dr. Jones.
You're very welcome! I'm glad that the information I provide is helpful and appreciated. I strive to share valuable insights to assist pet owners like you
I’m surprised there isn’t citronella oil in it as well. But I’m happy to try this because mosquito bites, I believe, can spread heart worm. Thanks so much! ❤
Just what I needed, a squirrel snook into our house yesterday and after inspecting it it was actually carrying fleas! My two cats and a doggo will be getting preventative spray mix and be under a watch 🥺
I have questions would witch hazel distillate- alcohol free be the same as extract? what about if the critter already has fleas? Does this spray kill them? I'm one of the few people that cannot stand the smell of lavender.. is leaving it out a problem?
I have been using the spot on stuff from our vet - one of my cats hair falls out on his neck when I use it, so wondered if there was an alternative! What would you suggest for long haired cats - they are chinchilla Persians and part Maine Coon. One of the boys (with the receding neckline!) has very dense undercoat. Or would you suggest a hair cut?

I spray it in my hands, and then rub it on with my hands.
That way i can also put it under her and between the paws.
As soon as i put it on her, she starts to roll around on the carpet to try to get it off.
Or outside rolling in the grass.
She realy hates the stuff.
@@ashapuri3114 That makes perfect sense, we forget how sensitive their noses are.
Thank you. I have a few cats that are super sensitive to fleas and the otc stuff almost killed one.
Jones.
It sounds like a gut issue. Maby pro biotics

I have questions
would witch hazel distillate- alcohol free be the same as extract?
what about if the critter already has fleas? Does this spray kill them?
I'm one of the few people that cannot stand the smell of lavender.. is leaving it out a problem?
Thank you for this recipe! So should we apply daily?
He said 3 times a week for a dog (I think) and once a week for a cat. Watch it again to double check.
Can we use witch hazel astringent aloe Vera formula ?
lemongrass essential oil is good to.
Dr. Can you please tell me where i can find and buy the lavender an cedar oil ? I absolutely love this idea and i love you and your content. Im definitely going to do this for my pup !! Thank you 🙏 😊

@@VeterinarySecrets Thank you sooo much Doc for taking the time to respond.. sooo appreciate it. 🙏🙏♥️♥️
Do you still recommend this mixture?
Is this safe for kittens about 6 - 8 weeks old? If not can you make a suggestion for what I should use? Thank you.
Please send me a link for the witch Hazel extract non alcoholic? I can’t find it.
I was part of a facebook IBD cat group back when my senior cat was ill and I asked the group about natural flea meds since my baby was at a delicate state. I mentioned how in the past I given my cat coconut oil baths and immediately I had one of the mods shut down my post, followed with angry explanation from the mod expressing how toxic coconut oil is for cats 🙃 I just wish I had found this chanel sooner...
What is witch hezal and how to add emulsifier to a spray and which one do you advise
Hey Doc, Great video, but would definitely appreciate if you showed Where are you got the ingredients from definitely having a hard time finding the non-alcoholic witch hazel. Thanks.
Amazon has everything. 😉
Me too… That’s the only ingredient I’m having trouble finding. Many products have it mixed with aloe. Wondering where you got the witch hazel in your video Dr. Jones. Excellent information! Gonna try it for my 15.25 year old Siberian Husky. I just don’t want to give her harsh chemicals especially at this point in her life. Thank you!
@@knikhuskygolden bough witch hazel someone said
