So here is a WTF story, on June 7th, 2016 my beloved father, Paster Emeritus of his church left us, the family gathered at his home.On Saturday as he would have liked we gathered around the TV to view the Belmont Stakes, never one to bet money we bet honor, and not knowing any of the horses, we picked by name alone. My partner and sister in law, both Civil War buffs, bet on Gettysburg, my sister a cellist, bet on Stratovariest, I don't even remember the horse I picked but we all agreed that Dad would have picked Creator. A Reverend, a social activist, a photographer who loved silver horses it seemed the logical choice. And then this happened.

A relentless test of stamina after a year of intense racing for champion 3 year olds. I have seen horses lose the triple crown live at Belmont on several occasions in that home straight, as the finish line seems to take forever to reach.. great to see horses win but I always think if the stretch, short head and nose beaten horses knew that this was the summer of their lives and they had this one date with history and in some cases immortality how much more could they have given in those last lung bursting strides ... probably just inches but for some that might have been enough.. I love the Belmont ❤️

DESTIN attained a prominent position soon after the start,got rated attending the pacesetter from the two path, continued along under the same scenario all the way to the quarter pole,got asked for more heading home, commenced the stretch approximately three wide, wrested away the advantage and shook free,emerging at the eighth pole holding his biggest lead, saw it dwindle down in a steadfast manner as the winner closed in, dug in with determination only to get nipped right at the finish line. LANI on the track last, left the post parade early, proceeded to come away at the start with no mishap, took the three path for most of the way on the clubhouse turn,departed the backstretch one path wider, was given his cue angling farther to the outside entering the stretch, was six wide by the conclusion of the maneuver, rallied to secure the show. GOVERNOR MALIBU remained along the rail after the start, kept an eye on the front runners sitting in the pocket, was checked while in tight and close proximity to the heels of GETTYSBURG at the quarter pole, angled into the two path only to have that lane blocked by the aforementioned rival, altered course back to the rail, was in the vicinity of the eighth pole,when forced to check in tight quarters when cut off by the former pacesetter, tipped wider and got going again, finishing with good courage to earn the last major check. STRADIVARI brushed the right side of the gate, sat forwardly placed in the two path and between foes early, chased the pace from the three path on the second bend, got roused challenging three to four wide into the stretch, wasn't up to the task at hand and weakened. Governor Malibu may actually have won the race, or at least been a lot closer, if he didn't have such a horrendous trip in the stretch. i saw that too. he was moved around so much in the stretch. poor guy didn't have a clear open to get through. He was ready to trike but just couldn't get through.
Exaggerator is not a great horse, not even a good one. No crying about him being 4 wide. So was Nyquist in one of his races around the far turn and still won. He broke from outside gates and lost ground having to run hard to get to the front and save ground. Exaggerator likes the mud and running past tired horses who try unsuccessfully to keep a fast pace.He is a one run horse. Here, he could not find the tired horses he likes to run past. He was tired and even Trojan Nation ran past him, who was in an outside gate also. Ex had no excuse. 11thh? Embarrassing.
