You nailed it Rick! When you mentioned the perspective/angle. That man is standing just a few feet away from the camera! It is probably true that back in those days they very likely operating under what they knew at the time was the average tv screen dimensions. But even so, that man would have been pushing the envelope lol, my guess is he was the director because had it been anyone else someone would have told him to back off lol. Great vid, nice call!
You're referring to Action Safe/Title Safe and that guy would have been well outside of Action Safe.
For a while you could still see this in action in episodes of Star Trek:TNG online because they would show the full frame as shot and sometimes you would see a sand bag/stand or the boom mic flipping back and forth at the top of the frame. I think they've since edited it all out.
"Good Times" had some bloopers too!
Its probably a production crew member or Julio!😁🤷🏿♂️
SHIT ESPECIALLY WATXHN ON WEED !!!! FUKN WATXH IT TILL THIS VERY DAY. DVDz N ALL
The owner
To the person who's responsible for this blooper, "YOU BIG DUMMY", 😄...
Lol
******LMFAO******
Lol. You took me out 😂💀💀
Not a Dummy a LUMMY!🤣
🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻
I'm 60. One of my "Favorite" Memories is of my Grandfather laughing while watching Sanford and Son. That and Gunsmoke was about all he watched.
HAHAHAHAHA! My grandfather used to watch Gunsmoke too! And as a little boy, I couldn't stand it. That and he also watched Dragnet which he used to call "Dragnut!" LOL
OMG i so wish my grandfather wasn't addicted to only TWO TV series until he died (at 98) - Hogan's Heroes and M*A*S*H (he was a retired USAF major).
Married with children had my uncle rolling
Same but with my grandma I was like 5 when I caught her watching it & kracking up 😂😂 ever since that night I was hooked... at 10pm that was our thing Sanford And Son ❤😂
Same here I remember my grampa laughing so hard but we all were the shows back then we're golden the shows of today don't have character just something stupid😊
One of the best shows of all time!
R.I.P. Fred G. Sanford, love you!🌷
Wow! Been watching this show for the better part of 50 years & never noticed that blooper :D.
Dave Berry Me either
but Sanford never could beat All in the family best Sanford did was number 2
He wanted his daddy’s records
Love that episode
😂😂😂😂
😭😭😭😭
Classic episode
Thats funny as hell
I am 49 years old watch that show all the time since I was about 3 years old and I never in my life ever noticed that before😮😯
One observation on this, when the show was originally broadcast most TV screens had a curved edged that masked out a small percentage of the filmed/videotaped image, this blooper would not have been seen at that time. The advent of 16x9 TV screens and remastering to capture and show all of the film and video information led to more bloopers like this one to show up.
Yay for us!
Either way it's there haha
rick nineg
Your above comments show
how unprofessional you are and
you just want to discredit the epic show instead of commending those that found the solution to the mystery of
your so called ‘blooper ‘
@@ricknineg i wish you had a better response, its not a blooper since it was filmed to match tv of that time, smh 🤦🏾♂️
@@rickninegdid really drink that drink in season 4 episode 9
I disagree with you guys. I remember I loved this show more than anything on tv. Then one day I notice this guy in the shot. I was disgusted. I never watched the show again. I mean really they just left that in the opening sequence? I’m glad you brought this to everyone’s attention I mean how could anyone stand to watch this show knowing that some guy in glasses is in the shot?
It is Wilson from home improvement. That's where he got his start. Ha ha

?????????👎👎👎👎👎👎👎👎Home Improvement????!!!! You mention Home Improvement in with this????!!!!
@@wendellwatters4450 this is for home improvement 😃🖕 that show sucks

Oh, Tim.
It was some “ Heathen “ hiding from Aunt Esther

😂😂😂😂
You old pickle eyed bear hugging fool
Or some snaggletooth jackass
Uummmm....who’s really watching THAT hard? I’m too busy enjoying the opening theme song and the nostalgia of the 70s....
Exactly!
Its not so much watching for mistakes, but in the 70s you didnt notice much with small tvs , but with today's high def bigger screens, the picture is sharper and clear. For instance i was watching chips on a 55 inch screen and saw the reflection of the camera in a window
Facts
Solved ! That was Grady trippin' after that marijuana salad !
I immediately thought of Shady Grady too 👍
😂😂😂😂😂💀💀
He's having the _munchkins..._
Salad ..yep. Thanks. Best episode.
It was wild parsley
1:44 it's Julio ready with the "MaFungo" 😂😂😂
I think I know who the person off camera was. The sunglasses were a dead giveaway. It's Lead Belly Jelly looking for his father's (Blind Mellow Jelly) records. "I want my daddy's records back!!"
Just look at them beady eyes😭😁
You mean pot belly lmao
@@taydafranklin7800 Pot Belly or Lead Belly? I think we're gonna have to go to the video tape on that one Tayda! Lol!!
@@GalaxyHasYellowTeeth LOL!! My favorite S&S episode

That man to the side was never seen by anyone until flat screen TVs came about. Because of the slightly curved shape of Glass tube TV sets and curved frames he was completely out of view. Who in 1972 could have ever foresaw glass tube TV would no longer be commonplace. So that's why they never bothered to fix it.
My sentiments EXACTLY😂😂😂😂😂
Who, in 1972, figured people would analyze Sanford & Son episodes 48 years later?
I remember watching them when they were new on Dad's latest Heathkit.
They knew WAY Before 1972 how it would be.
Oh DID They. And Just HOW is it that you know this?
@@louisborselio8608 Because he's always known that they would know that we would know that they knew... that's how.
I would have NEVER caught this. You have WAY to much time on your hands, man.

I adore Redd Foxx. I miss him sooo much
Paula King Goodness. Yes. Hi
If you wana see red foxx..he's on slappedham...
Warm memories watching this show with my dad when these episodes were new in the early/mid 70's. One of our favorite shows. Thanks for posting.
I never noticed it! Wow! I see it now. I’ve been watching this show for years and this my first time noticing this
Love me some Sanford and Son. I call it my favorite Colored Television show:)
I love Sanford and Son. I used to watch it with my stepdad when I was a kid.
I cannot see him..the screen isnt panned out far enough to the right for me
Tim Kapeller I can’t see him either. Same here too.
Lol I thought it was just me..I do not see anybody with sunglasses🤓
I dont see it either
It's not visible at all when you watch the show. I still can't see it.
Fake video
Interesting observation! Perhaps it's Rollo Lawson!
Perhaps the mysterious Rita Lawson
In the words of Aunt Esther, "Ain't you Rita Lawson's son?!"
I wonder if the guy in the blooper will ever know he's been discovered ... 😎
Sadly, he's probably dead, like the majority of the cast.
@@brandonpage7087 Your crazy the guy could still be living the 70's was not that long ago 51 years ago

It's Jack Albertson from Chico and The Man.
I think it was Fred's buddy, Shady Grady.
With sunglasses, it's probably Rollo.
Best episode is when Fred thought Lamont was contaminated lmao
You know as many times I've watched Sanford and Son I never picked up on that lol 😂
Glad you liked it. You can now mention it to others
@@rickninegis there any other shows from the past that have something like this?
Obviously that's Fred's business rival and arch enemy, Big Nose Baxtrum seeing what the competition is bringing in.

Bubba: "Hot Dog, I know exactly who we should invite . . . .The Butt Sisters!!!"
The look on Fred's face after Bubba mentions "The Butt Sisters" is total classic . . .Love this show!!
We're having a party, not a sideshow.
I have found so many bloopers that is hilarious. But even like that i watch it faithfully
I always love hearing about Sanford and Son, bloopers included. I never knew there was a blooper in every episode, but that’s really cool to find out about. Keep up the great work Rick! Thank you for the video!
Maybe he was a customer checking out the sled....in LA during the summer.
Thanks for the video. Take care be safe.
I think it was a production crew member who was too close in the shot!
Good one!! Never noticed! 😃
And we watched Sanford & Son growing up!!!
Congrats to Mathew & thank you Rick for this cool video! Everyone stay safe & healthy, we are all in this together (separately) 😷
If you haven't already notice, that the Sanford and Son set, is the same set that was used by the TV show What's Happening.
I never watched this show in syndication. I remember watching it when it was brand new in the early/mid 70s and I watched it faithfully but I never noticed the man in the corner. Good catch. It’s kind of creepy that he’s there on every episode. Those old CRT sets often cut the picture on all 4 sides by an inch so it’s possible back in the day most people would not have seen it.
🎯👌
Also, the "Q" in ANTIQUES is backwards, but I'm guessing that was deliberate. I just assumed that person was a customer at the shop hanging around and thought nothing more of it.
Good catch! I searched all over the Internet and no one else has ever discovered that blooper or mistake.
Chris Hanson now THAT was a good catch!
It comes on every weeknight at 10pm on GET TV in South Florida. I'll watch for it tonight.
That was everybody's favorite Port-O-Rican!
Julio Fuentes...Fred's neighbor. 🔥
As always, another great video! When watching Sanford and Son I've always noticed something moving on that side of the frame in the opening sequence, but never gave it a second thought, figuring it was just an illusion brought about by natural
lighting or unfortunate camera angle. I would never had guessed it was really a person! Wonder if that person ever got paid for their appearance?
The biggest blooper is the very first episode where the wall is not attached
Try this one... there’s an entire door and window that they never use, look out of, or even reference. Additionally, every customer who goes to the store goes in through the side door, literally walking past the storefront altogether 🤷🏾♂️
Always figured that the front was their actual business that we never got a look inside of and the customers go to the side when they are closed or there's no answer at the front door and the main setting around back is their personal living space.
That's something I've always wondered about as well.
Also it shows a 1 story building but we all know they have an upstairs too.
Wow!!!!!!! I never notice that watching the intro of this show. I would love to have that huge sign that was over his business/home.
I just recently found out Julio was the detective in Low Down Dirty Shame as much as I saw that movie I never realize that was him
He also played in Barney Miller. The guys the most famous unknown actor.
Dude finally got his lucky hollywood break and got discovered! It just took the invention of flat screens and a person with a lot of time on their hands 50 years later to make it happen. Patience always pays off.
i've noticed this blooper a couple of times, one or two episodes you see his full face and body, i can't remember the episodes but he's there.
wayne via Lamont’s Headache
One of my favorite shows EVER
As a kid watching the show, I always thought it was weird that place in the intro looked absolutely nothing like the house in the show.
That is my grandpa. we lived around the corner, and being a junk collector, when the sign went up, he went to the store because he wanted to be the first customer. after the shoot, he bought most of the stuff to decorate their home. My grandma was not happy with the junk.
If that's true Rick should have you talk about it in a follow up video. That would be a cool story to hear.
"It's Goldstein"
Goldstein lives!
Look Pop! It's Goldstein!
A "blooper" today wasn't necessarily a blooper in the 70's. TV's were different, they were CRT meaning no flat screens. The curved edge of the screen likely made it not visible.
Every episode of Sanford and Son was filmed twice in front of a live studio audience. The episode you see on television is often a combination of both episodes after the episode was edited for television syndication
My grandfather and I would watch this show growing up. Great memories. That and Andy Griffith 🤣🤣
Two great shows!
@@rickninegin that episode when Fred mixes a drink to help with his hangover? Did he really drink it. It was so nasty of different stuff
Rick there’s a blooper I saw on Gilligans island. It’s the episode where the skipper pretends he was kidnapped by headhunters so Gilligan can become the new skipper and lead the group. At the end Gilligan makes everyone lined up and he is supposedly leading them back to camp. But instead he leads them onto a cliff and of course Gilligan falls off the cliff. But you’ll notice when he’s hanging from the a tree limb he no longer has the skippers cap on he has his regular white cap .
I’ve covered that I believe in one of my blooper vids! I love that one
Hey I just noticed another one. That sled where the man is standing is ALSO inside the living room just left of kitchen door..Great catch..😀😀👍
The announcer from Soul Train, Sid McCoy, appeared in two episodes ! For those who didn't know! One as a Customer buying a trumpet when Aunt Esther adopted the teenager and when Fred had a black dentist! Mr.McCoy played the dentist!😁✊🏿👍🏾
@Moddie Seven 👍🏾
Wow ok I remember both those episodes he played the black dentist and a random customer walking in looking to buy something and Daniel plays that bugle 😂 yeah that voice, he definitely is the guy never knew that 🤷🏾♂️ hell I didn’t even realize he was the same guy in both episodes til now
@@Sound4daMasses1 👍🏾, He's been involved in the entertainment/communications field since early days in Chicago! I recently pulled up an old KFC commercial he was in! Quick question, Where is the actor that played Daniel!🤷🏿♂️🤷🏿♂️🤷🏿♂️????
I pulled up that KFC commercial too! Good question about Daniel, I dont know where he is!🤷🏿♂️ He reminds me a little of Bryan O Dell from Youngblood snd and he played Marvin in What's Happening! Where are they,?
That man is the next door neighbor, period!
Rick another great vidio you do. Thank You my friend. Your the best! Now when the show ran I would watch it every day.... Never noticed this before! Love Sanford and Son!!! Thank You Rick!! Stay Positive!😊
Hey checkout the episode when Big Money Grip, comes to tell Lamont, that hes his dad. At the end when Fred and Lamont, are talking look at the back window, you see a person walk past the window
Maverick Jordan yep it’s Grip when he leaves
Yep that's Grip leaving
It was him
I love “Sanford & Don” and I’ve been binge watching my complete series DVD of that show but I’ve never noticed it. I wouldn’t call it a blooper. I think of bloopers like where a boom mic appears on the top or jet is spotted flying overhead in a western.
Back then, TV shows were received by antenna or rabbit ears so the picture wasn’t always perfect. So a lot of bloopers slipped by. Who in the ‘70s, ever thought that we’d be watching these great shows over 40 years later?
I don't watch westerns as a rule, but I remember turning the tv on in the middle of one and before I changed the channel, I saw a jettrail just above the horizon! I cracked up for days every time I thought about it🤣🤣🤣
Watch John Ford’s Fort Apache and in one scene you’ll see a pick up truck driving by in the background lol
I saw a jet in an episode of Bonanza when I was a kid in the 60s.
Or the fact the it’s a storefront but during the show it was like a back house with a driveway?!
Rev Vs. Revs I thought the same thing. Thought it was a fence junk yard. Good call. Also a long drive way in front of the house.
He blended in so well with the junk that I never even noticed! Good goobly Mooney!
The even bigger blooper is the presence of the extra large bay window in the front of the store, which does not exist at all from the inside of the house.
Yeah the house is nothing like the one the actual scenes are shot in.
Wow, great eyesight! I'd never noticed it. It was my father's favorite show
He's not in every single episode just a handful of them some of the episodes were cut short at the end before they panned over to where they were showing him at first but when they did Pan over on some of them he wasn't there to be seen I got the complete DVD series and I found tons of bloopers as deep as I get into watching this series you see stuff you've never seen before the more you watch it
A really great episode is when Lemont brings 2 coffins home and the cat makes noises all night. That was so funny when they both decided to sleep in the back of pick up, each one was tugging on the blanket, pulling it off the other one. That was really funny RIP Redd Foxx
Probably too close to the horizontal sync pulse to be visible on most 70's TV's (or studio monitors either for that matter).
Interesting, you may not realize it the inconsistencies between the outdoors scene in openings and the stage arrangement in sitcoms.
I think the guy with the sunglasses is you, rick nineg. I bought the "Sanford & Son" complete DVD series, and I've never seen the guy with the sunglasses.
What I've always wondered about is their store was operated out of their house so where was the location that the beginning is filmed that actually looks like a real store
That was Cousin Emma dodging work!!!
Soo much gold out there. Thanks for your for your efforts.
If you look closely at the interior living room set and then watch another 1970’s TV show called “What’s Happening”, it’s the same set. They just repainted and removed the junk for the later show.
Crap. Biggest blooper is those big windows that aren’t seen inside. Also the front is fenced in on episodes
Another kind of blooper is that in the show, that door from the opening scene was never used. They used the side door by the driveway. But the back door was straight across the house in the kitchen. So where was this door in the opening scene?
Exactly
I got a suggestion for you you look Sanford and Son probably just as much as I do. You should do an interview and try to get Demond Wilson on the show and do a live podcast with him. Obviously I don't know if you can make it happen. I would love to see that. I think you would too and you should ask him some of these questions maybe he'll answer for you obviously unless you know obviously you can't ask him about people that passed away like Fred Sanford because I saw a video and another interviewer brought up some old stars from the show and he said I don't like to talk about them because they've passed. But what do you think if everyone here agrees he should try to interview Demond Wilson give me a like. Obviously he is the second banana and the co-star
It's Mr. Stone from the Zanies' Episode: "Haha, he's walkin', I love it". 1 of the best episodes.
Thought it was that the building is a single story and they have an up stairs, think there was a window over the liquor cabinet first season as well
LOL. This is so funny!!
Thi i my fv. Show in the whole world i swear i watch it everyday over and over and i wi never get tired of it
In my opinion, the whole opening sequence is a blooper. The outside of the building does not match the set. During the sequence, the door is in front, on the set, it's on the side. Also in the sequence, the next building is VERY close to S&S's business, on the set it can't even be seen unless it's deliberately part of the shot.
I think that guy should be getting royalties. :)
Lol
He never was seen on broadcast TV at the original time of broadcast. CRT analog TV's did a thing called "overscan" where the picture scanned taller and wider than the edges of the screen on-purpose. The picture tubes did not have square corners at the time and this was needed to make it look like the entire screen was being used. Edges of the screen also hid behind a bezel.
Probably an FBI agent making sure Fred doesn’t make to much money pay taxes ..
Great job with this Rick. 👍👍
If I can show you a couple of bloopers in this show. What could I win? Lol
OMG!!!!.. I've never ever noticed this before. Thank u for sharing. Sanford and Son is one of if not my favorite tv show of all time.. I miss Mr.Redd Foxx so much. R.I.P
I love to watch the episodes and look at the things in the background now! This find is really groovy!
My question is: I see Lamont pull into the driveway to the back of the house. When the truck is shown in the yard, it's always turned around. Where in that small space does Lamont turn that truck around?
It’s cool how the intro has them living across from a grocery store but after the card game Lamont needed the truck🤔🤗
I think I’m the only one who has noticed that the intro sequence was actually changed in the later seasons. Watch the expression on Lamont’s face while driving home on the early seasons. Then watch his expression on the later seasons. Early seasons(frown) later seasons(smile) check it out.
Darrel White what Fred carries out changes too. it was a fan and something else like a lantern, can't remember exactly but I grew up on this show
And Fred looks up at the sun in his eyes too.
If Fred would have found out he photobombed the intro he would have gave him ...Five across his lips😂😂
Anyone ever ask themselves when they look at the title sequence and they watch the show "what building is that?" In the title sequence as you see that is clearly a storefront business but when you watch the show they pretty much live in a two-story house so the business in the show is in a different building then the business in the title sequence
I grew up on this show, and I never noticed that...lol..
I never noticed the man!
But I did notice the sled hung right there and always thought that was a little out of place in LOS ANGELES..... 😳😂🤣
Loved this! Thank you for all the good detective work!!! The three Sanford and Son Hawaii episodes had a different opening than the rest of the series though.
