Indeed! In the early days of the channel, I was quite long winded during the intros, I have cut this down a LOT since then!
@@WatchItPlayed you've come a long way! Not that these were bad at all, it's just amazing looking at these old ones and seeing the difference.
You very quickly became THE youtuber to watch for games rules, congratulations and thank you
@@bafbegagglestick6241 Ah, thanks for the kind words - very appreciated!
@@WatchItPlayed Just so you know we're still watching your videos now! You've always been incredible!
@@DarthStalkers Appreciate you being here :)
9 years ago and I’ve only just bought this😅
"A wizard is never late, nor is he early. He arrives precisely when he means to." -Gandalf :)
Me too!
Same! I was playing Marvel Champions and decided I wanted to try this!
@@danmarks5039 I've been playing Marvel Champions too :)
I was today years old when I found out this game even existed
As a long time Arkham LCG, and more recently Marvel LCG, fan, I've finally broken and decided to buy into LotR LCG. Lo and behold, Watch It Played has me covered from over a full decade ago. Thanks again for all your contributions to the hobby over the years!
I hope you have a fantastic time in your adventures with this game James!
I really hope this guy works as a teacher, because he's a natural teaching talent in my opinion! Fun, informative and engaging video!
Very kind Max, thank you. I'm not a teacher, but I'm glad to hear the teaching style has been helpful for you.
yeah, it worked out for him quite well :P Clearly a lot of people agree that he's a terrific teacher.
@@WatchItPlayed 11 years later, and still going strong. We thank you for taking the time to look through all the manuals (Good and bad ones), and making these exstremly well made and easy to understand videoes. You are not allowed to go on pension, ever (Sorry ;) )
I picked up the 2022 core set exactly 11 years to the day after this video was posted, and it's still by far the easiest-to-understand series on this fantastic game. You, sir- you are a hero to the hobby of tabletop gaming.
THat is so nice of you to say - I'm really glad you're finding the videos helpful :)
I just did the same, and I must say it's so impressive to find a decade old video on YT that still holds up the way this does. Learning a new game is always a struggle for me, but with this series I think I'll be playing and having fun in no time!
@@TankTaur I hope you have a wonderful time!
Great memories. 3 years ago this was my first watch it played, and this was the first strategy game I bought because of it!
+Ardnightian Thanks for sticking with us!
i love ultra complex games! learning them feels so rewarding!
Thank you for explaining this game so clearly! You speak very well, and yes I agree you are a natural at teaching.
Thank you so much for the kind comment!
I purchased the game yesterday. I realy like how you start with the instructions and making people feel comfortable with the basics! looking forward to watch your other videos, cheers from germany.
Really nice to know you found the video helpful CorpseTree!
Best Tutorials i have found on youtube by a mile, thankyou.
TheFewzz Thank you so much - very pleased you are enjoying the videos!
I haven't played this game in a long time and decided to bring it out. So this is the first place I came. Watched the whole series again to refresh my memory. Thanks Rodney! Great job as always!
Thanks Ken - glad the refresher helped :)
Your channel was posted on reddit this morning. Just having a quick look I came across this series which is perfect because I bought LoTR LCG last night. Look forward to watching this and your other series, it's so much easier to get to grips with a game after reading the rules if you can see it being played. Keep up the good work.
Watched this to learn the game back in 2011/2012 when I started playing, I own every set released now and play this game a lot. I still arrange my cards like you did in these videos, thanks man, great videos!
Thanks for the support! Great to hear you've been keeping an eye on the videos since so far back!
11+ years ago, and I just bought the Revised edition. Hoping this video will be updated like for the Arkham Revised one.
Hope you enjoy the new revised box - nice to see them refreshing these games!
I've been watching your videos for quite some time! I finally picked up this game and it's amazing to see how far this channel has come in 5 years. Thanks for creating such high quality content for so long!
Very nice of you to say (and for you to have been watching all this time :) )
I wasn't convinced at first by LOTR : LCG, but after seeing your series, I think I'll buy it soon. It was a very fun series, and I hope there'll be a part 2 with one of the new extensions :)
Thank you so much for these videos! I’m new at this and got overwhelmed when I opened the box lol
There is a LOT going on there, so that's perfectly normal. We have a full play through as well, which might further help to clarify the rules and concepts. Happy adventuring!
I watched this when it was new like a decade ago, just getting into board games and I loved it, but I was so late to the party with this game that I just couldn't get into it.
Now, I have a chance to get the revised rules set and subsequent releases and I am thrilled to be able to watch this again and get a leg up on the rules with an example of play thrown in.
I have been such a fan of this channel for so long, that it really influenced how I tried to play games with my own kids! Thanks Rodney, even if you never see this, I really appreciate the videos and family nature of the channel as a whole.
Hi Joe, I do my best to catch all comments, even on the older videos (was travelling, so this reply is delayed), but so appreciate the kind words and to hear that you're diving into the new edition - happy adventuring, and thanks for being with us all this time!
Bought this game about 6 months ago. Have been intimidated by the sheer scope of it, but dang it Randy, you make this seem easy. Watching this, excited to pull it out and learn this weekend. Thanks Randy!
So glad to hear that this made it approachable! Hope you have a great time playing Nathan :)
This video was the nail in the coffin of my resistance. I'm buying the game as soon as my FLGS opens! Thanks for a great video, Rodney!
You're very welcome, and I'm happy to hear you're excited to play :)
Great video! I bought this LotR and found the instructions to be a bit overwhelming. Seeing the intro alone helped clarify many things.
Watching this channel for years now. Love your content! :D
Thanks so much Rod, I appreciate that!
Always my go to on how to play or to watch it played, ty so much for your playthroughs. Ive bought many games based off of your playthroughs and tutorials. very appreciated!
You're very welcome - so glad you've enjoyed them!
Just wanted to let you know that after watching this series multiple times, I was convinced into purchasing this game. I have been a huge fan of it ever since. I've played Magic for a long time, but I love this game so much because its cooperative. I also appreciate not having to buy boosters and deal with the competitive metagame. Thank you for introducing me to a game I now love!
Hey Mat - so great to hear that you discovered this game and it was a good fit for you. I hope you've been enjoying many fun adventures with it!
Amazon had the core sets at less then $18 with free shipping about a year ago...ended up purchasing 3 sets. Watched all your videos on the game and tried the first level 1 quest with a tactics deck. Failed badly...so I tried a few more games and just couldn't get it!
Put the game up on a shelf and haven't touched it again till just now! xP
Played the same scenario with the leadership deck and just blew through 3 easy wins on the first quest.
I LOVE tactics on paper...I like smashing things in the face in my card games hehe...but it's so dang tricky to get mono tactics to work with the lack of willpower.
Anyhow...no idea why I'm sharing this xP.
Thanks for the videos man...they've been so much help to me!
Glad I found this game again! Having a blast with it lately :D
Glad you had a chance to give it another shot :) Best of luck with your future adventures!
I just picked this up...a bit late, I know. Thank you so much for making this series of videos. I watched and was able to play immediately. Your instructional videos are fantastic! Thanks for what you do!
Never too late to enjoy a game :) Have fun adventuring Christy!
I am now going to watch your earlier videos that you have done and I am happy you did this game since I have been on the fence about this game.
Did you end up getting to try this one?
Just wanted to add a quick "thank you" for this series. I got this game for Christmas, read the rules and then played it... poorly. I didn't understand the rules well, and I kept getting things wrong and had to look up rules constantly, even though I had also watched the official FFG videos. So, I watched your series and by the end I understood how to play and picked up some strategies as well. Thanks a lot. Now if you could just do series about how to get my wife to play the game with me.... :)
Great stuff! I bought the game (did not receive it yet) for my 8 year old daughter (as well as for myself, of course). Searched UA-cam just to find some information about the ruled and gameplay... I came across a few videos and then, I saw yours. Had fun watching the videos, learned a lot, even laughed sometimes :) Many thanks and keep it up!
Great review!. You have a great sense of humor and made me smile a lot while watching this :)
Hey, thanks :)
Just got this game from ebay after watching your play through. Cant wait to start!
Thank you. this video was very helpful.
Great video. Great presentation style and very clear to understand. I've spent a few days slowly examining the game. I'm going to watch part 2 and then hopefully try a solo game.
Glad you found this helpful Jim. Enjoy!
I actually just got this game the other day. After reading the rule book and watching the tutorial videos from Fantasy Flight Games website, I was still a little confused. So thank you for covering how this game is played. I really, really appreciate it.
Also, I watched the "Let's Play Mansions of Madness" videos in your other channel. It made me want to get the game...badly. :D
Wow, I have spent some serious time going over these rules and watching videos today to try to learn to play. Though I have the remaining 4 videos to finish watching out of the 13 in the series, I would just like to say thank you so much, Rodney. Your videos are the best of the bunch and you've made sense of what I thought were confusing rules. Entertaining, clear, and a perfect pace.
I'm doing something that I don't do lightly, and that's give you a like to every one and subscribe to your channel. Thanks again!
+SilentlyGaming Thank you so much for the kind words - I'm very excited to hear that the video were a help. I hope you'll be playing and enjoying the game soon!
+Watch It Played :)
Fantastic video sir. Just picked up the revised core set, which was just released. Can't wait to dig in. Thanks!
I really liked their revised Arkham Horror Card Game release, I'm sure this will be just as good!
With revision two for this game out for sell now, I figured I search UA-cam and see what the game was like, and sure enough our most loved tutorial and game information channel has the answers for us once again (and for the hundredth+ time).
Thank You.
!!! 2011 wow this is old.. I would not had guessed this was 10 years ago... you have not changed a bit. Proof board games = Eternal Youth!!!
Who knew? :)
I loved the earlier series of watchitplayed, I never miss my daily dose.
I purchased this a while back as I have an interest in LOTR product (my license plate even reads FRODO). But after watching one video by a well known game reviewer I set it down as it looked far too complex. He made the strategy portion look arduous and slow. However I just now looked into videos and found this very old one and since you have a way of simplifying the hardest games I decided I will drag it out and attempt a solo game. Sometimes the teacher makes all the difference between fail and success!
awesome video keep it up! thanks for sharing!
Great tutorial.. simple and clear video..
I LOVE the fact that the illustration are not taken from the movies, but originally drawn from the books description. No more Orlando Bloom Faced Legolas!
Yes, the illustrations here are really nice, aren't they?
Thank you for all you do for this hobby. Never change! From Australia ❤
Greetings back from Canada!
@@WatchItPlayed I meant to say, for all you DO! And you do quite a darn lot. Greetings back and hope you have a wonderful weekend :)
Just another great great video as usual in wacthed it played channel.
Thanks a lot Rodney! I You are one of the best in explanation of the rules in board games :). I love your channel :D.
So nice to hear you're enjoying it Fernando!
Fernando Simoni I
2021 and I’m wanting to get back into it! Amazing game
One of my favorites too!
All my card players have grown up and left the house (and my wife doesn't play), so I've been searching for solitaire options. So glad I found this video as I read and re-read the instructions, struggled through numerous step-by-step hands. Maybe I was too impatient, but this video helps explain A LOT that isn't clear in the manual. Well done!
Hey Russ, that's so nice to hear. I'm glad it was helpful and I hope you have a fantastic time playing. We also have a play through if you think that might help solidify anything you're uncertain of. Happy adventuring!
Once again Rodney, thank you very much! I found the manual to be a bit confusing and your video series has helped in fill in the holes.
dreadknot69 Very pleased to know it helped! Hope you have a great time playing :)
aweseome Rodney, thank you for covering it!
You're very welcome, I hope you have a chance to play and enjoy it!
Only just got this, rlly thankful for the tut
You're very welcome - have a great time playing!
Very glad to have found this! Always liked the idea of warhammer and the table game but the idea of all that math and set building is intimidating. The world of lord of the rings has always been a favorite.
I hope you get a chance to try and enjoy it Brian!
I wasn't excited about a card game all that much, but this looks like it could be fun. Not at all what I expected! Now I'm looking forward to seeing it -- ahem -- WATCHING it played.
Thank you, Rodney! You are the internet's greatest board game teacher!
You're very kind - glad it was helpful!
mate I was about the give up then came across with your videos. Great job. also the way you explain it makes it very easy..
Really nice to know this was helpful - hope you had fun playing!
Really funny to see these older videos now :)
Like getting in a time machine!
love your channel, just pure awesomeness
+Ethan Turner Thank you Ethan, so glad you've enjoyed it!
Rodney is so young and cute and explaining everything, I love it! So much different from his modern videos but still charming as heck
This is going way back :)
You are a gem Rodney, the fact that we have gotten to enjoy your video for 12+ years is such a treat @@WatchItPlayed
Using this to teach new players for my Race Against the Shadow tournament. :)
+Katherine Walter Hope you all have a great time playing - good luck!
I loooove your videos and the purple zebra-striped table cloth!!! :)
Ha so funny to see an old video of yours Rodney. Your excellent presentation skills were already there, but clearly the quality of the video production has massively increased since. The video is still very helpful!
Thank you Joel!
Thanks Rodney for the Lord of the Rings tutorial. I'm a veteran gamer, but I was still having a hard time grasping the mechanics of the game. I sought help through Reddit and did not receive any useful responses. I found your videos after searching online and I was able to fill in the missing gaps in my knowledge of the rules. I played my first solo game and loved it! I introduced it to my girlfriend and she enjoys it as well.
Really nice to know this was helpful Jodin!
Thank you so very much for this. It's so hard to find a tutorial video that is clear and geared for solo play. I've been debating whether to get this but now that I've seen you video, I will! Do you think you'll ever do an Arkham Horror video?
Very glad you found it helpful. I will eventually do Arkahm Horror, but no plans just yet. Hopefully we'll cover some other games you'll enjoy in the meantime though :)
Your videos have come a long way.
Three have been some changes :)
And this video is still going strong. Just bought the core set and watching this before trying to get through Mirkwood:-)
Good luck on your adventuring :)
Greetings from Brazil! Great video and great playthrough! I really enjoy your videos! Keep up the good work!! If I may say so, how about a Watch it Played for a Game of Thrones LCG or even Mage Wars? That would be cool!!
I did just recently receive Mage Wars, so you never know.
Great StArt Thanks
Glad you're enjoying it!
I liked you video! I mean, you look very friendly, you're funny and the way you introduce the game is interesting.
Thanks Rodrigo!
Excelent clear voice, PRO tutorial!!
Thank you!
Hey I am New to UA-cam and Your series is Super Cool Than others
Subscribed! Your Mansions of Madness videos is fun to watch! Watching this just for the fun of it
Hey, thanks for sticking around! Hope you enjoy it!
got the revised edition turning up tomorrow, pretty excited to give this a few solo runs
Have a great time adventuring!
Watched for first time today! 2019! And I'm hooked! The Game wll arrive soon.. So without further adew... Part 2!! 🤓😍👌🏻
Hope you have a great time playing :)
Great video! keep up the good work!
P.S. Did you laminate your card or did you use card sleeves?
I used card sleeves. These were Dragonshield clear sleeves.
Rodney, you ever come back to old videos and laugh at the RAWR faces you make? HAHhahah great stuff!
+MjrLeegInfidel I do when I get a comment on them :)
Hey Rodney, I love the channel! Your reviews are some of the best out there. I have a question. Are you a fan of the Tolkien universe and, if so, how accurate are the cards and their flavor texts to the actual literature?
I am a fan of that universe, but I wouldn't say that I am a rabid fan. I've read the books, including the ones not part of the movie series, but I haven't studied the material closely enough to say I could assess how accurate the flavour text is. Much is from the books I think. Feels right to me.
Score! "Your order of Lord of the Rings: The Card Game has been shipped". I can't wait for it to get here. BTW I hear arrrr when you say card but your "aboots" crack me up lol.
Oh wow!!! You did a teach on this! I just saw the new game and learned about the old one. I think it's very cool they're making them compatible. I have been so tempted to put this game on my wishlist...it just seems there's a lot of components to buy! @_@ But we both love, love, LOVE LOTR!!! Sam's our favorite.
You've found one of our earliest videos :)
@@WatchItPlayed Cool! I love all of them. :)
This is a old video but that does not matter it is honestly the best tutorial video for this game . At first when I got the game I did not understand it now after watching your videos I understand how to play . Quick question will you ever make more vids on this series or are you done with it ?
Thanks so much Adwoj, this is very nice feedback to receive! I don't tend to re-visit games, as I want to cover as many different games as possible on the channel.
Great video dude, really helped me out, thanks a lot
Greetings from Wales , UK
My pleasure. Greeting back from the East Coast of Canada :)
***** Hi, me again, I have been playing this game and I have a question and I was wondering if you could help me out with it please?
On the hero card Aragorn, it says after he commits to a quest I can spend one resource token to ready him.
If I choose to do this do you know if I still use his willpower points while resolving the quest please?
Many thanks
Rob
robbiedarza Oh yes, it certainly does. That's the benefit of the ability. He can quest and still be freed to do something else. A great Hero!
***** Oki doki thats great, thanks very much the reply.
Rob
Hallo Rodney! I really appreciate your videos, in particular the "how to play", you are able to make every game very easy. Thanks!!!
I have a question for you: could you please tell me what games are you showing in the first seconds of the video?
+Master1978ge Mansions Of Madness, Wrath of Ashardalon, Small World and Space Hulk. You will find these games on our channel as well (check our playlists). Cheers!
+Watch It Played Thanks ;) I'll have to spend some more money because of you :)
Here I am 10 years later and my kid is 10 and I'm finally playing my first LOTR game with him.
I hope you both have a great time adventuring together!
Thanks so much for the video. I just bought this game and I already know most of the rules! It's going to be a fun Christmas XD
I hope you can do more games that are solo playerable. I can't really find somebody to play with me so that's why I choose to buy Lord of Rings because many people say it's good for solo.
We recently launched a new series called Table For 1 you'll find we have a playlist for it), that focuses on solo play :)
Your Canadian accent is awesome. "Carrrrd". sounds like a pirate. :P
(all Canadians are secretly pirates... shhhh)
***** haha. I have Canadian blood myself. Maybe thats why I choose pirate over ninja.
Great intro, thanks! I had randomly browser a half dozen other LotR LCG videos and was confused .. really wanted to knjow how to break down the cards, which ones are mix and matchable and so on .. you got right to the point quick. Much appreciated.
Thanks for the kind words Jeff. This was one of our older series, and you'll be happy to know that as time went on, we've gotten even a bit more concise in our delivery to get you the information you need.
I FINALLY picked up the Revised Core Box!
Hey Hey - never to late to enjoy a great game!
@@WatchItPlayed That's right!🙃
Will you be doing an updated version of this video like you did with the Arkham Horror one?
Thanks for the interest! I talk a bit about that here: ua-cam.com/video/EdtDuvIUa6A/v-deo.html&t=342
Very clear and concise videos. Excellent. I've been out of the card 'game' for a long, long time; could you tell me which card sleeves you're using for this game...? I found some old ultra pro sleeves that just fit (the top of the card is level with the sleeve)
Beyond The Lens These ones are the clear Dragon Shield ones. A little pricier, but very good.
*****
Thanks for that. I guess the 'shadow' cost of buying sleeves is a burden we all have to bear if you care about your cards...
Awesome overview. I think you really covered all the bases here. As much as I love the Tactics deck, I hope you don't choose it for this solo adventure, hehe. It can be brutally difficult without a 2nd player helping out, as I'm sure you know! Also, it looks like you assembled your Threat Tracker upside-down! Those two dials simply need to be switched, hehe.
It still bugs me that my trackers are assembled that way :)
Ah perfect, was just thinking, I'm not buying this game unless Rodney has a video on it! Now I can time travel as well!
Indeed - we're going way back for this one :)
Thank you so much Rodney for these vids. When I started watching I had NO IDEA how to play this game now I think I could pull it off against another player.
I hope you had a chance to play it!
Another game I had no intention of buying until you showed the game play. I have the base and two expansions so far.
Hope this is one you enjoyed!
2 years later, this series is still the go to for learning the game. That's quite a testament to the lucid presentation of the rules.
Very kind of you to say Anatole!
I just bought a used 2nd edition version for under $30 with shipping and tax on Noble Knight Games (I believe the same edition you're using here). I love MTG but it's such a money suck! As a massive LOTR fan, I'm pretty excited about this. Thanks for the tutorials 🙏
Not having to chase random cards is certainly one of the benefits of this style of game (while still giving you the deck building and card play elements!)
This guy literally explains everything I'm fifteen minutes
Hope you liked it!
The cards are possessed! They keep moving on their own!
I don't think I've seen one of your videos this far back; interesting to see how far it's come. Any chance of revisiting the game as a lot has changed in the past 3-4 years?
It's not likely to happen, as I want to be able to teach as many different games as possible. So many games - so little time!
***** I hear that. Too many games, not enough time. I've been considering making videos simply because this show is the only one I've found with an adequate level of depth on the front end. There's definitely a need for these! Keep it up!
TheGreatHamEl Thank you very much!
hey Rodney, I know this video is around 6 years old, and when you made this video I bought this game because of you, and I still enjoy playing whenever I can, My question is do you and Pep play this game still?
Hey Ryan, glad to see you enjoyed the video. I should warn you, I wouldn't assess anything on how often I get to play games (my schedule with the show often means I'm not playing games as frequently as my interest in them allows). Let's put it this way, I still buy product for the game, for when I do get some downtime.
Hi Rodney, thanks to your series, I was able to complete my first game.
I played the initial scenario, Passage Through Mirkwood, using the lore set.
What a slaughter!!!
I only managed to get 2 progress tokens on the main quest, 1A, for the entire game, until my threat level reached a mortal level of 50.
This game is tough!!!
I have a question about a treachery card I came across, Caught in a Web, when revealed, it attaches to one of your heroes, causes your hero to exhaust, and they can't ready unless paying 2 resources.
Does this effect last indefinitely?
That was so bad.
I mean, let's be honest, ultimately it wasn't going to matter much, as I felt like I had no chance.
I'm going to try again using a different set. Perhaps the tactics sphere of influence, which you used during your video series.
Caught in a Web is tough! You played that right. And you're also right: the game can be challenging, but I think you'll find you get better as you play. All the best :)
Really looking to getting all the expansions and getting my game on. Can you recommend any other really good 1 player games?
I try to avoid recommending games, because that's really going to come down to the individual. If you want a meaty game with lots of complexity, you may want to consider looking into Mage Knight.
Rodney looks like he’s tucked into The Hulk’s shorts!!
It was all the "rage" back then!
Oh wow, an early Rodney.
Also, Gimly and the red mist..
~ laughs ~
