This is what I strangely love about the 80s. A lot of times when someone comes up with a "retro 80s-style" tv show, game, artwork, etc, the thing they often tend to fixate on is laserbeams, lambourghinis, pastel shirts and white miami vice suits, etc etc. All that stuff is cool, but what really feels "80s" to me is all the drab beiges and greys, the earthtones, the plain halogen lighting, clunky CRT computers, leaded glass windows, short carpets, concrete cityscapes.. without context it might seem drab and dismal and yet it's strangely calm and comforting.
I couldn't agree more if I tried. Absolutely perfectly worded, this is exactly how I feel. The mundane-ness is precisely the appeal of it, that outwardly it isn't anythng crazy or eye-catching but it just has a *feel* that is entrancing and immersive and impossible to properly put into words. The comfiness of nothing particularly wild happening but just immersing yourself into a different time and place.
The only pastel colors and laser stuff I remember was on TV. But everyday life in the 80's was drab and grey. Even the 70's had more color, be it avocado green and sunflower yellow.
@@ChillinDylanI mean sports was also pretty colorful. The 1980s were the first decade in where many football clubs, both local and international began to do more with their kits beyond two or three colors. Same case with baseball, albeit with their logos

This music brings me back in time. Many years ago, I used to work 9 to 5 at a corporate cubeville... as soon as it was leave time my coworkers would run for their commuting trips, but not me. I simply didn't want to face the stress and noise of rush hour. I would stay in my small but cozy cubicle "working", but actually doing very little work, mostly surfing the internet, playing video games and chatting with friends online. I would raid the office kitchen for a slow, leisurely brunch and a cup of coffe while reading newspapers and magazines, or I would go to the meeting room to watch movies or the news in the giant TV screen. My bosses didn't mind at all, since I had no problems ever meeting my goals, thus I had the whole office floor for me. When it was around 7 - 8 pm I would go home in a relaxed mood enjoying the empty streets. Not rush hour for me. Say whatever you want, but for me it was a good time.
idk if you're joking or not but you're on to something. the background music says "someone tried to make you comfortable" and its absence is very backrooms

My dad used to watch the Weather Channel all the time growing up, and I would always fall asleep to the sounds of the vaporwave music on the segments. This kind of music always takes me back to a more carefree, comfortable time in life. Thanks for this.
eh, offices have a dreary vibe but architecturally and interior design wise they can be interesting, most office parks from the 70s have good atriums and nice looking buildings but bad urban planning
I used to work nights but I have now transitioned to an office "9-5" (my hours can vary from 7-3, 8-4, 9-5, 10-6 etc) but I love the normalcy, getting up in the morning, sleeping at night, coming into the office, leaving on time, everything... from a former night shifter... I must say... I love it here. No weekends or holidays... peace and a good night to everyone. xoxo

There's something about late nights in the office in the 90s and 2000s. I wasn't even born to experience these times, but I get the strongest anemoia from it. I can imagine myself sitting at my desk after everyone has gone. There are no sounds but the light blow of the air conditioner and the slight buzz of the lights. The entire place is very moody with most lights now being off, the only thing bringing life into my cuble (other than myself) is the illumination from the monitor and the fluorescent yellow ceiling lights, positioned off-centre above my desk. I look out the wall of windows and see the endless sea of city lights, floating in the darkness and being semi-obstructed by the half-closed blinds. In a trance, I get up from my office chair and make my way to the windows. My chair creaks as I get up and continue to creak for a few seconds after I have left it. My leather shoes sink into the thick, grey carpet until I reach the window. I watch life move on down below from from my high position which is essentially another version of heaven. I see headlights and taillights darting across the roads, I see blinds opening and closing, I see lights turning on and going out. I then hear a faint beep and soon fall out of this trance. My Casio was trying to communicate with me for the past five minutes and it is telling me that it's time to go home... Sorry for the long comment, I really felt like getting it out there!

@@caty6242 Hi, I dunno how I came across this comment but if you'd like my two cents as a person who has worked several years in biopharma, worked night shifts in the lab, and went away from the lab work to go into management, I am happy to give you a look into this. Firstly, a pharma company that runs 24/7 to allow night shifts is not uncommon. The unfortunate thing is that they run 24/7 because they're typically hard pressed on time. That being said, like a fast food chain, anything not done during day shift is typically transferred to night shift. It may not be directly assigned to you but it has the sense of "taking one for the team." Secondly, it can be a little dangerous as the lack of personnel in the lab makes it hard to have an immediate and prompt response to hazards and injuries. If you work during night shift it can be difficult to find opportunities to learn new skills, work on new projects, and gain exposure for working with other departments on these projects. Night shift workers are typically highly underappreciated, not often visible to departments, and thus are pretty slow to be offered promotions. I liked working in the lab during night shift because it can be quiet and peaceful, but honestly I was stuck as a "lab tech" for so long when I knew I could do so much more. Your dream isn't a bad one, but I want you to know some of the challenges you may face pursuing it. Some people just need a peaceful job and that's totally fine, but if you want to grow you might want to consider letting go of being a late night worker. I hope this helps and I hope you keep working towards your goals :)
The images are surreal and vary with my mood greatly. I'd adore to be in that one desk room with the giant plant hanging over, and that old computer console, watching a clip of something that looks out of paradise while still cozy in those strange chairs. ... and a little later it jumps to that room with a billion square lights, blasting an ugly yellow-white hue down over a cramped space of desks that look like you're essentially working in the space of urinals all day. Looks like a total nightmare.
I love this type of music always playing in waiting rooms or hold music, and in the movies scenes of employees working had this kind of music as the background … I only have small memories of this genre influencing places like Sears in the early 90s bc I was so little, but that was enough to make me sad I was there at the very end

@@caty6242 Imagine wanting a certain job because you are antisocial lmao.
@@tobiasvollmer3343 lol it's not only because of that. You have to have a calling for medical stuff too.
The song at 45:08 is such a bop
ahhh so easy listening when do some work,
The images are surreal and vary with my mood greatly.
I've never found such a great playlist like this one before. Very unique, very nostalgic. My new favourite!
I love this type of music always playing in waiting rooms or hold music, and in the movies scenes of employees working had this kind of music as the background … I only have small memories of this genre influencing places like Sears in the early 90s bc I was so little, but that was enough to make me sad I was there at the very end
Love this track at 45:07!
Thank you! 🫶
Sounds like something you'd hear from The Sims, not saying it's bad though
