People of an age to enjoy this for the nostalgic kick seem to be better people for it and not given to clickbaiting or low effort videos bearing names like this. I think vintage TWC was a great influence on society now. Damn the implications are wild to oonsider!
This reminds me of one of my earliest memories. Summer of 1988. I was 4 years old. We were on vacation, visiting my aunt in Atlanta. It was a rainy night as we zoomed down a highway that seemed to cut through the heart of the city. A "Quiet Storm" station was playing late 80's Smooth Jazz and R'n'B over the radio of our Maroon Chrysler LeBaron. I remember looking up in awe of the massive, soaring skyscrapers. The rain drops on the windows and the wet road reflected the lights of the city, combining into a glorious neon impressionist painting. All was right with the world, and 35 years later I can recall the magic of this moment just like it was yesterday...
jesus christ. i'm actually at a loss for words at the absolute awakening i had to seeing the old weather channel footage. i feel like you just ripped a piece of me out, dusted it off, and put it back in.
I love how we didn't get any extra dialogue from talking heads, pumping up every storm that's gonna come. Old school weather channel showed you what was in store with these chill vibes. Almost softened the blow of crappy weather coming. "Oh, we're gonna get slammed with a wintry mix? Meh, pour me some more wine, then let's dance. We'll deal with it when it cones." 😃
This is by far the BEST "Weather Channel Vaporwave" on UA-cam. The song mix is soothing, chill and elicits the nostaligic memories from the very early 90's like no other. I am so glad I was able to live the best years of my life during this period. The world is so different now, so this creates a virtual time machine for me to reflect and escape from the chaos and rat-race of todays world.
I've often described certain music as "weather channel jazz" because the WC really has its own aesthetic. I feel so validated to have found this corner of youtube, you have no idea.
When i was like 12-13 I had a weird obsession with watching the weather channel. Because it was relaxing. Parents thought I was odd because I also listened to smooth jazz when I went to bad. But I ACTIVELY chose to watch the weather channel over cartoons.
Yea I remember doing the same thing, mostly used it to relax as I did homework, there were only two channels I watched other then the typical kid stuff, the history channel (back when it was good) and the weather channel
I grew up in the 90’s and my dad was a farmer so we didn’t go on many family vacations, but when we did, he would always wake up early and watch the Weather Channel. Wish I could go back to that time 😌
I never realized how damn nostalgic I could be for the old school Weather Channel "Local on the 8's". Memories of being a kid at grandparent's house, they had weather channel on all the time. I developed a strong interest in the weather because of that. Still obsess over it to this day.
I was afraid of Thunderstorms as a kid, so when they would roll through in the middle of the night, I would turn on the Weather Channel to listen to the music to try to help me sleep. It also made me feel safe knowing when the storms would be over.
I've had insomnia my entire life. It only occurred to me recently how comforting I find this aesthetic and music--it'd be late at night and I'd turn on the CRT in my room and put on the weather channel. The music provided something calming and the light from the TV provided a reprieve from the dark which I was terrified of. This takes me back to those days. Thank you for the vibes ❤
11:59. That is a glimpse of veteran TWC meteorologist Dave Schwartz. Dave was an anchor for TWC from 1991 - 2016. Sadly, he passed away from cancer. I was heartbroken to learn that he is gone. I remembered how excited I became when he was on TV. Dude was a legend and he is missed dearly :,-(
This is something I didn’t know I needed! Memories of waking up to thunderstorms at night and being scared of them and turning on the weather channel to see when they would be over. The music was always so calming too. I always thought the moon phase graphics looked like oreos 😅
This is bringing me closer to tears than any nostalgia-bait ever has. Despite the blessings I've amassed in the present, I've never wanted to reach into the past and pull myself back so much.
when I was young around 5-8 my dad would watch the weather/news/channel menu before leaving for work and before going to school I would sit in front of the tv and watch the weather/news too because I wasn't taught how to change the channel. My dad didn't realize until almost 11 years later when I told him I remember watching the weather/news because that's what he left on after going to work and he asked why I never changed it. Looking back it was really funny that I just never asked how to change the channel, but I was always super excited about watching the "grown up shows" like my dad, even if it was just the weather. One day I did find out by watching him change the channel and I started watching cartoons in the morning instead but I really liked watching the weather before school, even though I could never talk to my friends about the morning cartoons. I at least knew the weather for the day/week XD

Wow. I just got a deep, lost, and obscure 90s flashback as a teenager. The Weather Channel was so common on cable you didn't even think about it. The "Local Forecast" graphic hit me hardest.
Great playlist! If anyone's curious, the song at 12:12 is a reimagining of Torcuato Mariano's 'A Very Special Place' from his 1994 album Last Look. Highly recommend, because that man brought the vibes.
Weather Channel today: "Huh? You want weather info? Can't help you there, but here's a marathon of horror shows about people killed and places destroyed by bad weather."
this is such a niche 'genre', but i find it very comforting. i can remember sitting in the living room floor with a slice of toast (it had strawberry cream cheese, normally), watching the weather channel with my mom while my older sisters were at school in the morning. i miss those days.
So much of The Rippingtons' content was played on TWC that I suggest looking there first to anyone who wants to dig into the artists behind the Local 8s
This kind of shit played in stores and elevators and all kinds of places everywhere in the 80s. There must be discs and discs and discs of it. Or maybe they were tapes and they all melted 😂
I got into Weather Channel music a lot more after the passing of my aunt back in October of 2022. I found it very difficult to study in college during that period, but listening to weather channel vaporwave at the library not only helped me focus, but weirdly made me feel nostalgic. It reminded me of the good times I had as a kid.
as someone in their early 40s this takes me back. i remember my spring break - sr year in high school in FL - i was partying w friends and never really drank and had a great buzz and i had to go back to my hotel room and the weather channel was on with all the colors on the map of the us flickering and the music was goin on and i just sat there after i used the bathroom and chilled w my buzz enjoying the channel zoned out.....before heading back to the party. its a special memory for some reason because i've remembered it all this time 25 years plus.
This is aesthetic in its purest form. The smooth lo-fi jams and local weather from an unknown time that has presumably been long since passed. It's an aesthetic that I absolutely adore, and its genuine time capsule. Bravo.
This shit actually hits so hard... Remember when it used to snow in Massachusetts? Or sitting on the couch before bed waiting from the call of snow? So much nostalgia here . Man this is actually more emotional than I'd like to admit.
My gramps always put the weather channel on when it was time for us to go to sleep. The music always put me in a soft state, like everything would be ok, even at night in the dark of the world, I had him snoring and the funky jazz to let me know I wasnt alone and had nothing to fear. It still feels like I have that invincibility when I come back to listen to these songs, even if he's no longer around. 💗
This is as close to a time machine as we'll all get. I use to love watching the "locals on the 8's" and I was around 12 when it cable company carried The Weather Channel. Also, it's nice that i can see PA on your videos. Nostalgia hitting hard
This is so nostalgic, bc I remember hearing this channel when on vacation with my family and my parents needed to hear the weather for the day. The music was great to listen to, as much as child me wanted to watch cartoon network. Soothing, but always kinda sad because it also often meant being a hotel room and travelling home, signaling the end of vacation and adventure to new places, and the soft, smooth jazz helped with that melancholy feeling.
One day I happened to stumble across this, showed my pops and told him I use this for studying because it makes me calm and more focused. He said "Huh... Must be a subconscious thing, I used to have this playing all the time when you were young living in IL." Where I was born. Haven't been in that state since I was 5.
The Weather Channel was ASMR BEFORE that was an actual thing ! With the nice soothing sound of Jazz music and piano playing while having the blow dryer on my head before heading out for the night on a Friday night going out to actual bars and not being worried about any possibilities of mass shootings !😁👍
Well chosen! I remember that era of the Weather Channel well. Absolutely nailed it. I still have a clear memory of the Weather Channel playing Rainforest by Paul Hardcastle, back around 1988 or so. One of the more surprising tracks I've ever heard on there, was Something Always Happens, by The Art Of Noise.
What's crazy is that according to the city names of the forecast, this is the weather station for Delaware circa 1983. It's so crazy to me that my small state has its weather channel from when my father was a kid preserved in a playlist like this, almost like I'm experiencing exactly what he did 40 years later. Edit: 1994, not 83
I can tell you for certain this video is not from 1983. It is most definitely from the mid 90s. Source: I’m old enough to remember, and frequently watched the weather channel. Edit: Just found the original video, it’s from 1994.

This is great. Takes me back to my college years working at a Resort in Michigan. We had a small TV in the Concierge area that always had the weather channel on. It was an older model 80's TV and had hazy clarity, yet for some reason, even then, it was soothing to watch. Just weather and local on the 8's. Oh, the good old days when MTV played music videos and the Weather channel gave the weather without any of the fluff. If you know the year you recorded this please post. Thank you and great mix.
My Dad worked thirds and had the weekends off. He would fall asleep to this in the recliner, and I would fall asleep on the floor. Great nostalgia, really nice mix.
I was born in '92, and I miss when the weather channel wasn't sensational and anxiety provoking like it became in the 00s onward for the sake of views.

I used to watch TWC late into the night to fall asleep. It was my 'go to'.
RIP Dave Schwartz: February 20, 1953 - July 30, 2016
The mid 90s style of the weather channel will forever be iconic.
A no-nonsense experience. Just crisp, relaxing music, and your daily weather.
Born in 84. We also had a LeBaron. Similar memories of driving down to Florida, Spyro Gyra on a cassette tape.
jesus christ. i'm actually at a loss for words at the absolute awakening i had to seeing the old weather channel footage. i feel like you just ripped a piece of me out, dusted it off, and put it back in.
They blew in your cartridge
Yaas! 😅
Well said
I am picky about my vaporwave mixes, and this one is so nice. Thank you.
Same lol the others had talking or “newer” jams
That’s my I saved it to my playlists
could u share some of ur mixes pls.
Same here.
@@herocortez i have some but recently been more into Hardvapour..
Duuuuude that voice at 28:14! Freakin me out maaaaan. Too many gummies to watch this at night
It’s insane how familiar the graphics/visuals are. I got so used to seeing them that they genuinely feel like home.
80s.
@@TheInsultInvestor1994 apparently. Wednesday, Jan 19, 1994
I laughed imagining you arriving at the “best” conclusion having watched every other weather channel vaporware video out there
It was a vastly different time, I’m glad to have been able to enjoy it too.
@@TheInsultInvestor yeah man this shit was still poppin off the same into the mid 2000s
Be glad that you're different, which means you are the exception. 😎
Same, friend. Weekends and summers? Up all night with the weather channel on. There was just something so soothing about it.
I still listen to Smooth Jazz so this just feel right at home for me. Love the Weather Channel aesthetic!
Yea I remember doing the same thing, mostly used it to relax as I did homework, there were only two channels I watched other then the typical kid stuff, the history channel (back when it was good) and the weather channel
Same! Got started on it because grandparents didn't have full-fledged cable. 12 channels only, and the weather channel was the most exciting thing!
It also made me feel safe knowing when the storms would be over.
same, but then the EAS warning would pop up and jar you
@@DickDawsome honestly i got so scared
I've had insomnia my entire life. It only occurred to me recently how comforting I find this aesthetic and music--it'd be late at night and I'd turn on the CRT in my room and put on the weather channel. The music provided something calming and the light from the TV provided a reprieve from the dark which I was terrified of. This takes me back to those days. Thank you for the vibes ❤
solfeggio for that one.
doesnt sound like you had insomnia, sounds like you made excuses. pathetic.
Same here, I had some interesting nights, listening to loveline until 1am and then weather channel
I'm chilling in my living room on a hot summer afternoon reading some classic books on the couch. This music fits perfectly.
This is bringing me closer to tears than any nostalgia-bait ever has. Despite the blessings I've amassed in the present, I've never wanted to reach into the past and pull myself back so much.
Bro, this idea is hilarious, but, awesome.
You found us another escape from post (Js did) 9-11 world.
A+++
Very first time I went on holiday to America back in 1994 I saw the weather channel and immediately loved it.
This mix is fantastic. So comforting. No politics or fear-mongering. Just weather. The way it should always be.
Have you seen that a team of people got the original Weather Channel hardware working again? They do live streams with real weather data!
link?
@@tristinO_o User @cc17926 does this as an example.
when I was young around 5-8 my dad would watch the weather/news/channel menu before leaving for work and before going to school I would sit in front of the tv and watch the weather/news too because I wasn't taught how to change the channel.
When I was dying of cancer the Weather Channel helped me a lot to ease the boredom of waiting to die.
Thanks for this. You are a lifesaver.
I hope that means you are no longer dying
No. Yes, I feel much better . Thanks
We’re glad you’re still here. I’m glad it gave you some reprieve during a very low (and painful) time. I’m glad you survived!
@@dixieboy5689 Phew... Man have I been shocked, saddened by the first comment and then RELIEVED to know you've made it. I dont know you but I'm so glad you made it. Thank God! Stay well!

Thanks….Any idea what the 1st song is?
Man a vinyl or CD release of this would go hard
Or a cassette tape or 8 track would slap too 🔥
Weather Channel today: "Huh? You want weather info? Can't help you there, but here's a marathon of horror shows about people killed and places destroyed by bad weather."
And commercials galore.
I remember the change into that programming, and as a kid, I voted against it by turning the TV off or changing channels. I miss it man.
90s weather channel was the best weather channel
In a way you..we. ..are living them twice when we reminisce/nostalgia. Nice places to visit from time to time
this is such a niche 'genre', but i find it very comforting. i can remember sitting in the living room floor with a slice of toast (it had strawberry cream cheese, normally), watching the weather channel with my mom while my older sisters were at school in the morning. i miss those days.
So much of The Rippingtons' content was played on TWC that I suggest looking there first to anyone who wants to dig into the artists behind the Local 8s
Love the rippingtons
I stream this through my crt tv and it’s just beautiful
I’m from a time where this was lame. This is very comforting to me. Thanks for keeping this alive!
As an adult I now understand why every adult kept this channel on sometimes 😅
Also if you all like the first track of this, go check out Vangelis album "The City" lots of authentic 1991 sax reverb with similar feel.
This kind of shit played in stores and elevators and all kinds of places everywhere in the 80s. There must be discs and discs and discs of it. Or maybe they were tapes and they all melted 😂
I liked that they used to play Charlie Brown jingles during Christmas. It helped ease the pain of seeing a Buffalo, NY forecast in winter lol.
That's just recordings from the Vince Guaraldi Trio ua-cam.com/video/Z_rY7y8-o4M/v-deo.html
Nice to see some weather channel stuff that is analogue vibin instead of analogue horror.
I'm glad I'm not the only one who immediately turned/turns on TWC when staying at a hotel
as someone in their early 40s this takes me back. i remember my spring break - sr year in high school in FL - i was partying w friends and never really drank and had a great buzz and i had to go back to my hotel room and the weather channel was on with all the colors on the map of the us flickering and the music was goin on and i just sat there after i used the bathroom and chilled w my buzz enjoying the channel zoned out.....before heading back to the party. its a special memory for some reason because i've remembered it all this time 25 years plus.
This is aesthetic in its purest form. The smooth lo-fi jams and local weather from an unknown time that has presumably been long since passed. It's an aesthetic that I absolutely adore, and its genuine time capsule. Bravo.
Those wind chills were no joke.
Nice. I grew up watching the weather channel too. Sort of always been preoccupied with weather
January 19th, 1994. 30 years now, that's crazy and what a cold blast for the eastern 2/3rd of the country.
Never knew weatherwave sounded this good 👍
This is as close to a time machine as we'll all get. I use to love watching the "locals on the 8's" and I was around 12 when it cable company carried The Weather Channel. Also, it's nice that i can see PA on your videos. Nostalgia hitting hard
The closest we've been to a utopia. Gladly, we can savour it, remember it and enjoy it via the Internet and UA-cam
Dang, this takes me back. I remember first hearing this at hotels and then at home. Weather channels back then hit differently.
One day I happened to stumble across this, showed my pops and told him I use this for studying because it makes me calm and more focused. He said "Huh... Must be a subconscious thing, I used to have this playing all the time when you were young living in IL." Where I was born. Haven't been in that state since I was 5.
When I clicked on this, I had no idea it was going to slap as hard as it does
bruh literally
"And now, here's your Local on the 8's." XD
Nothing like waking up in the middle of the night with this on the TV with your favorite girl lying next to you. ❤
@@mfo7611 you’re right, i cross referenced the wrong year 😅
That is pretty cool! According to the video linked in the description, this was the forecast for Wilmington, DE
I'll have to look into it and see if there's any other archived Weather Channel footage on YT. Lots of other old TV rips with
You edited to put down an edit note instead of correcting the date lol? Amusing
@@umamifan Some people do that as a form of edit etiquette so that the replies still make sense. If OP hadn't replied to the person who corrected them but changed the year, it would be confusing and you'd think that person doesn't know how to read. That's why I do it anyway
When I was a kid I was obsessed with the Weather Channel. That old format and vibe to it is so different than anything today
Wow, everything about vaporwave is deep and relaxing. Even the comments are nice and insightful
This is perfect. My Dad did construction and would listen to the weather channel every morning. I miss that robot voice giving the forecast... things were simple back then.
This is gorgeous, and it loops around 40 years of memories along with it. Thanks for the time invested.
Whoa this hit me hard. My older brother LOVED weather channel, he would watch it and I would dig these tasty jams.
And btw VCR Classique goes so hard. That B part is pure velvet.
I literally listened to this whole thing and made an alternate reality storyline of my life where I met a beautiful girl and ended up getting married, Damn this is amazing.
I'm not a foreveralone, I'm an alone wolf. I hear ya man. I wish it hadn't worked out this way but yaknow, "because reasons" happens to folks too. People need to be understanding of that and if not, well FYAD.
I remember coming home from school and it was betweens Bob Ross, CourtTV & The Weather Channel... Any & all PBS programming, "tv guide" channel.... Good ole days indeed👌🏾
the jazz from Weather Channel's local on the 8's was the sweetest sound of my childhood
When I was little and I woke up in the middle of the night afraid, I’d turn on the weather channel. It always worked to calm me down and help me go to back to sleep. Thank you for this
As someone who used to love watching the weather channel for local on the 8s and just watching the clouds go by to the smoothest jazz I appreciate this
Not only is this music super chill but so are those temps 🥶
As someone that grew up in the 90s, in the DE, PA, NJ tri-state i absolutely love this♥️
That music change at 34:36 is the perfect atmosphere setter for a record cold night.
I miss getting my "local on the eights"
Eight ball!! Yesss Im there dude.
It's super interesting reading all the comments as a 2004 born finnish person. I believe we most likely didn't have anything that close to the vibes here but I am loving this! it has such relaxing vibes :] I feel like this is something I could associate with old phonecall waiting musics? Either way It's super cool to read everyones experiences and share the nostalgia through them. So glad I was born in the final years of still getting to enjoy some 90's kid nostalgia growing up with the stuff that was passed down from my older siblings (our old ps1, the boxy ahh tvs, tamagotchis etc.) Thank you onceinalifetime for making this window to a time I could never experience and thank you to all the commenters for sharing your nostalgia ^^
RIP Dave Schwartz, one of the best to watch during my TWC binges in the 90s
This is great. Takes me back to my college years working at a Resort in Michigan. We had a small TV in the Concierge area that always had the weather channel on. It was an older model 80's TV and had hazy clarity, yet for some reason, even then, it was soothing to watch. Just weather and local on the 8's. Oh, the good old days when MTV played music videos and the Weather channel gave the weather without any of the fluff. If you know the year you recorded this please post. Thank you and great mix.
It’s from 1994 according to the source vid!
wasn't born til 98 but I can definitely picture this whole experience man. Something about vaporwave + life just makes everything make sense
Local on the 8s! 🤩
Our local cable provider first added TWC around 87 or 88. I was hooked immediately and will forever miss this iteration. I'd love to see them dump their current format of endless reality TV shows and wizbang animations and go back to the beautiful days of lo-fi graphics and smooth jazz.
