Just in time is right. Almost had 994 installed. I thought "this would be perfect if it had WiFi". Now it does.

Great unboxing video!!! 👍👍👍 Awesome head unit by KENWOOD!!! What I really love is the 5V pre outs that it comes with, something Pioneer still doesn't offer on their head units!!! 👍👍👍 It looks very nice with lots of features and not to hard to function!!! I'm in the process of trying to buy one myself!!! I've been shopping for the best possible price on line!!! It pretty much has and does everything you need it to do!!! I don't understand why a lot of people complain about not having HDMI not having this or not having that!!! I mean let's face it there's no such thing as having a perfect head unit and you can't always have everything in one single head unit anyway!!! That's the reason why car stereo name brands always come up with upgrades on the following head unit model's!!! In any case you can't use every possible feature that they come with all the time, especially when your on the road driving!!! Some things we just have to learn to live without!!! All in all it seems to be a great head unit!!! I can't wait until I buy mine!!!! 👌👌👌

I don't understand your logic. WHY would you not want to buy the PERFECT head unit that has everything you want and need if it was available?
This isn't like a car where you can potentially upgrade to higher performance parts or add functionality. You are stuck with what you get.
And any software/firmware updates that Kenwood provides are just basic bug fixes. They don't improve usability, improve the GUI, or add new/better features. They'd rather sell you next year's completely new model with some minor updates, but still the same recurring flaws. :/
And FYI, using "!!!!" does nothing to validate your statements.
These are Kenwood's TOTL head units, and there's absolutely no reason for Kenwood to not provide a "perfect" head unit for the amount of money they demand.
If you're happy continuously buying expensive but sub-standard or flawed products, that your prerogative. SMH

Do Garmin maps work? I thought it only had North America maps. I ask because i am using the 995s in Saudi Arabia and wonder If the maps will be / are available.

Just buy the non-NAV version (DDX9905S) and use Apple CarPlay or Android Auto with the NAV app of your choice. Of course, you can use your DDX995S this way as well.
The only significant function you lose in the DDX9905S IMO compared to the 995 is the one Tilt Down Angle for the display.

What is the policy on Garmin map updates? Is it free lifetime or is there a charge for updated maps? Are they general Garmin maps or special to Kenwood. If unique to Kenwood, how often do they come out and how many years will they be supported?

Are you expecting to release any *Frmware Updates* in general for the DNX995S/DDX9905S in the near future ???
Last KENWOOD firmware updates were posted May 28th. No newer updates than that as of yet. As for compatible wireless AA phones, none new yet that we have been made aware of.
Overall, this looks like a really nice unit. I wonder why there is no HDMI input?
HDMI inputs are unable to output to a second video zone, which this and all of our receivers ending in a "5S" have. By using the KENWOOD CA-C3AV input cable with a vast number of 3rd party adapters that can create an HDMI input or a variety of other styles of inputs, then selecting the AV Input source on the receiver, you are able to successfully have access to your video content not only on the receiver itself, but also output to a dual zone video source. Thanks!
Kenwood has made a lot of weird decisions over the years with DDX/DNX units like the removal of the security code feature, the removal of the relay outputs, and the cost-cutting move of no longer including the remote or all the cables required to hook things up.
However I think the removal of the HDMI they only had for a year or two probably can be blamed on the phone companies for never settling on a standard of screen mirroring or casting. Over the years there's been MHL, Miracast, MirrorLink, USB-C, etc. Then, since not many people understand the differences there was probably a lot of confusion as to difference between casting and mirroring, and all the stuff with the Kenwood mirroring app being crappy (see Play store reviews), phone updates breaking the feature, and on and on. Probably resulted in countless calls/emails to support along with complaints and poor reviews. So, they just took it out. Much simpler.
I think it's understandable. What's not understandable is removing a $3 cable and selling it for $30 as an accessory (the C3AV nonsense), and removing the remote as well... C'mon these are NOT cheap units at new/retail prices--DNX995S is $1300 US I believe and they make you pay $30 for an A/V input cable? Unreal. There are of course other options to get generic "camcorder" cables to replace these but it's hit and miss if they are wired the same to the TRRS plug.
@@KenwoodUSA So to be clear. I can purchase the CA-C3AV input, get an hdmi adapter and connect to an external monitor. Then I could mirror a movie from the front screen playing off an SD card to the rear monitor?
Could I also listen to the radio in the front and play a movie in the back from the head unit?

@@tpmacleod You can source a video IN to the receiver from the CA-C3AV, and select that from dual-zone control as a source to send as output to a rear display OR USB input as a rear output. You can choose a different source as the front in dual zone control.
Cable combinations and video out from HDMi to the CA-C3AV can vary depending on the smartphone's limitations and requirements.

Does the DDX-9905S also have the "-1" Downward Screen Tilt function, or does it only Tilt Up???
Can you PLEASE make it possible to customize or change the Graphic or Photo that appears in the Square "now playing" graphic that's in the top left corner on the home screen??? I don't know what you call it, but it's the square graphic that looks kind of like white lightning bolts coming at you in a blue and black background where album art looks like it should appear? I love that you can choose your own image or graphic for the main background, but I'd love to have the option of changing that square now playing graphic!
Overall, the GUI just looks dated, a bit cartoonish, and busy. Some screens are okay, but others just look cheesy for lack of a better term.
I know that it seems like I'm really knocking this head unit, but it is absolutely fantastic in features, functionality, and sound quality. 👍 I would just like to see a more modern GUI & graphic design to match that high quality HD screen.
Also, a lot of the Icon Graphics look like they're from the 1980's. Hire a modern graphic designer. For instance, on the WebLink App Display page, the "Media Player" and "NextRadio" icons are just horrible. The "Media Player" icon should be a large, simple Right-Hand "play" button Arrow with a simple Music Note placed within the play arrow. Take a cue from the simple icons on the Apple CarPlay screen.
And if you're going to have descriptive text under an icon, it should be larger, simple, block text on a solid, plain background, similar to the font of your KENWOOD logo on a plain black background.
No, only the DNX995S and DNX875S have the reverse screen tilt function.

Okay, understood. But the DDX9905s & DNX995s are Both ToTL "eXcelon XR" units, just no NAV in the 9905s. I just don't need or want NAV, and the NAV unit boots up A LOT Slower than the 9905s (tried it in a store demo board) which is quite frustrating.
I'd pay $30 more for just that one "-1" Tilt Down screen angle feature if it was added to the DDX9905s! ;-) :-P I work in manufacturing and IMO it would be more cost-effective on the assembly line to have all of the mechanicals between these two units identical, and just add the NAV capability on the software side. IDK?
We appreciate your feedback, but unfortunately it is too late to make a hardware change at this point. We will note it for future development.
I bought this stereo and I cant hook up my Pixel 2 wirelessly. Does anyone know how to do it? Also, another issue i found was that I have the Kenwood DRV-N520 dash camera and a rear camera attached to the stereo. When I put it in reverse the screen will interrupt and send me to the back camera, which is what it's suppose to do, however, when I touch the stereo screen to switch to the front camera while still in reverse and then switch it to drive or even park, the stereo screen showing the camera view would not change. I would have to manual exit the camera screen in order for me to go to the previous screen. Now there is no screen interruption when I place it in reverse, even though the camera interruption is switched on. The ONLY way to fix it at this point is to put back to factory settings. Does anyone know how to fix this too?

No, the receiver supports wireless Android Auto, but wireless CarPlay will require different hardware.

They are announced. The new DDX9906XR & DNX996XR will have WIRELESS Apple CarPlay in 2019.
HOWEVER, it requires you to hook up 2 or 3 wires to your OBDII port to obtain a VSS (Vehicle Speed Sensor) in order for it to operate.
These units also include MirrorCast.
Any plans to support front and rear DRV-N520 dashcams as well as front and rear external cameras?

The good news is, after the 2 years that we pay for, it ends up being less than $2 per month total to continue KENWOOD Traffic Powered by Inrix service.

Yeah, I primarily came to see if this unit had an HDMI connection in the back of it for the same reason of watching Blu-ray's or connecting a chromecast to it and he answered that question at the beginning of this video with an indirect astounding "NO", lol. That's the only feature it seems like is missing.
You have to jailbreak it as well as to play games.
I just bought a 9905s. As similar as it is to this, the 995s, it would be nice to have a specific guide for that.

I just bought and installed the previous model; DNX994S....how do I use my voice to get navigation directions? I can easily do this with Maps on my iPhone, so I'd rather not have to input addresses or locations with my finger on the 994S if I can do it by voice. Thanks for your reply!!
Voice directions are not available with the Garmin...only within apps in Apple CarPlay or Android Auto mode.
why does the ddx9905s also come with the gps antenna and cable? what does it do besides show a compass.
Why some videos show not available on receiver's UA-cam?
Some UA-cam content has copyright restrictions. As an alternative, you can connect with the optional accessories mentioned through the AV input to have full control from your device, with display on the screen.

Hi. I'm going to buy a Nissan Qashqai 2018. I'm not happy with the quality of the infotainment system. My question is that can I buy and install a aftermarket carplay system and still be able to use all the cameras( reverse, front, side) and connect them to the new infotainment system? For example, kenwood DDX990s ? Thanks.
The DNX995S has a rear camera, front camera, and AV-Input (requires CA-C3AV cable). To retain the side cameras, you would have to make a relay set or install a third party company's product that retains that functionality through one of our inputs. Companies like NAV-TV have switching devices that can help in accomplishing this. Thanks!

Gary Kwan 4k is pointless on a 20" monitor. Even more pointless on a 7" in dash receiver.
You wouldnt even see a difference between 720 and 1080 let alone 4k

Yes you have to use it - only the KENWOOD DRV-N520 is compatible.
Can the weblink app output video externally to other displays? I have the DDX9903S with HDMI but the HDMI source as you know is locked in this sense. Being able to pass UA-cam to external monitors might be enough to get me to upgrade from my DDX9903S
The only WebLink app that can be output to an external video source is Waze. If you need to output something specific, the AV-IN source can output whatever you give it, ensuring that you use our CA-C3AV cable and compatible 3rd party cables/adapters depending on your device. Thanks!

When you purchase the optional SiriusXM tuner (SXV300), it includes the antenna.
I have an galaxy 7 phone , can i still use the internet wireless? Also the app "wase" come with that stereo ? Or i have to download diferent way? As well as youtube?
The wireless functionality is for Android Auto with a compatible phone (currently, Nexus and Pixel only). As for Waze and UA-cam, they will work with the receiver after you download them to your phone, as well as the WebLink for KENWOOD app. Thanks!
Please help me. I have a KENWOOD 995S radio and have tried for three days to use the USB ports and it will not let me use the USB ports. How do I solve this problem?
What are you plugging into the USB ports. Are they not playing music from a USB flash drive? Are they not charging a phone?
Can I use Google Assistant on unit without an Android phone? I have an Apple iPhone.
Since the Google Assistant on an iPhone requires you to download the app on the phone itself, this would be separate from the receiver. Unless there was a way to make this be the native voice command instead of Siri, I don't imagine it would work.
Can you rip cds to the hard drive? Or to a removable usb?
This receiver does support hard drives in NTFS format as well as USB flash drives if you are successful in putting your cd content on either of those.
Whats nexus and pixel ? Sorry my ingnorance, i'm not so good on stuffs like this , so thats means that if i buy this unit (dnx995s) will work with my phone galaxy 7 ? , also do i need some adapter or any other part for the sterring butons? Wat other part do i need to replace the factory unit on my car , it has GPS and rear camera
The Galaxy 7 will work for Bluetooth and for Wired Android Auto, but as of today is not a supported phone for Wireless Android Auto. Nexus and Pixel are phones manufactured by Google. As for the correct integration materials for your GPS antenna and rear camera, I suggested checking with your local KENWOOD dealer for parts options. Thanks!

No, this is not a supported feature, However you can upgrade the SD card to a 32gig card to increase the recording capacity of the DRV-N520 Dashcam. Thanks

2.) I have the dashcam installed, where is the sdcard slot?
3.) And does the dashcam support anything more than a 32GB sd card? I have a 64gb sd card which is why I ask.

@@christianperez3320 Great to hear back from you, Do you have a DASH BOARD camera or a BACK-UP camera? We may be talking about 2 different products with different capabilities. Also IF you do have a dash camera, is it the DRV-N520? or another brand?
A Dashboard camera records forward facing, usually mounted under the rear view mirror. The DRV-A520 is a KENWOOD specialty dash cameras built for our receivers. It can record events while driving or parked and be viewed from the receiver options menus. A Back up camera is a safety feature providing a clear view of what is behind the vehicle and is generally only visible when in reverse. They do NOT provide capture or recording features.

I have a DDX793 unit with HD Radio that does not let me choose other HD sub-channels. I touch the CH UP/DOWN buttons but it just skips to another station however I do get the MC(multi-cast) and I'm positive that station has multi-channel available. What could be the problem? Is it related to antenna reception?
It could be antenna reception related, but I would recommend checking the following: While on the HD Radio screen, touch the tab on the left side, then select "MODE", then try in both "Auto" and "Digital" modes. Also, when you are on a station that has an HD sub channel, ensure that you are selecting the "CH Up(Arrow)" or "CH Down(Arrow)" and not the track icons.
Changing to digital only did not improve it. My car has glass type antenna. I know that the stereo's blue ant. control wire can only carry max 300 mA current. I can I use the blue/white wire instead?
Yes, you can trigger the antenna from the remote turn on instead, keeping in mind that it will always be powered on, which was previously only an issue with powered physically moving antennas. You may need to try a different antenna adapter as well.

The built-in Wi-Fi is for Wireless Android Auto only.

@KENWOODUSA Do the wired remote controls operate by way of a simple momentary contact switch (via button press) that are each assigned a specific resistor value when connected to the mini jack on the back of the DDX9905S???
In a very basic fashion...yes, but we use a wire connection (blue/yellow) as opposed to a mini-jack input.

@KENWOODUSA No worries. I've ordered a few Kenwood wired remotes from eBay and will test them/reverse engineer them to get the resistor values and post it here with a Link to a downloadable chart + make a UA-cam video with all of the information. Easy peasy...was just trying to save some time.
How do I change the quick access apps on the home screen?
First, access the white boxes icon in the lower left hand corner. Second, access the source screen with the icon that you are wanting to move by pressing the arrow icon, or sliding your finger. Third, press and hold the icon you want to move until a white box appears around it, then drag to the quick access icon location you want to move it to.

In the APPS section of Garmin Navigation, you will have access to Weather & Road Weather, which will include current and future forecasts as well as road weather conditions on the map itself when connected to the KENWOOD Traffic Powered by Inrix App. Thanks!

Why no HDMI?
The primary reason for no HDMI is that we wanted to simplify the most common task that using an HDMI input is for...which is mirroring a phone's screen. This is why we introduced KENWOOD WebLink, allowing for both iOS and Android device to have Waze, videos stored on the phone, and more all able to be displayed and controlled on the receiver with a single USB 1 wire connection. If you still need an HDMI for some reason, you can always use the KENWOOD CA-C3AV cable with a 3rd party company's product, like the iSimple ISHD01 to create an HDMI input, which then has advantages over a built-in HDMI input, like the ability to send that AV-IN source to the rear channels for a Dual Zone mode setup. Thanks!

Yes, Spotify is available with a connected Android or iOS device.

When will Kenwood take the chains off it's radio. All this Apple Play/Android Auto crap is over thinking and unnecessary . Why not just add a app store, internal Wi-Fi, HDMI outs, and 1080p or 4k resolution. Then all you would need to do is tether your phone and you're done. I've spent thousands on several Kenwood models and gave up after the 991hd. Since then I've went to a $250 7inch Android radio and haven't looked back since. Tighten up Kenwood!

If you were driving, trying to access all those features, you would have run over an old lady, mom with baby, a dog, a nun.....Too many features to have while driving. Also my 994 w nav does not function well when I have bluetooth enabled and using usb connected Android auto. Voice commands don't work while in AA. Have to unplug and disable Inrix, which I have found to be biggest interference with Android auto. Then plug in phone. Also, no matter the setting, Android Auto always tries to run. Even if I just want to charge phone. Try fixing all that while driving. Google will interfere with anything trying to stop it. Seems Inrix does the same. Have to disable one or the other. Can't keep both active and running in background. At least I haven't figured out how. Finally, if Sirius is a factory installed item, I think Maestro incorrectly explains how to configure. You need to select no when configuring the Maestro and let Kenwood control it. Now I have to pull radio out, pull out Maestro device, re configure and put all back in. As of now, I can't tune or customize Sirius. I can select it, but nothing else. I think I should have just plugged it in and configured Maestro so that it thinks I don't have factory installed Sat radio.
How do I control the screen brightness? The dimmer is hooked up and the setting is turned on. When I turn my lights on all of the maps (in Android Auto) turn to a dark background but the screen is still insanely bright.
To adjust the brightness, press the Menu button, then select "Screen Adjustment" icon.

Jud, you can easily connect any HDMI device using a compatible 3rd party HDMI to AV adapter, such as the iSimple ISHD01 and our CA-C3AV Input cable. The advantage that this has over HDMI is that you could not output HDMI to a separate source, but you can output the AV-In to a separate source and enjoy our Dual Zone controls. Thanks!
KENWOODUSA , no.. I havent used AV inputs since graduating college 2001. And yea I can send HDMI anywhere and everywhere. Source to HDMI spliter, one line to head unit, two lines to each rear monitor for the kids.. so. Ur way is weak....Halo9 baby!
Our method allows for Dual Zone functionality, all from the touchscreen of the receiver, which unfortunately is not possible with an HDMI splitter before the receiver. Ultimately, if you have a way that works for you that is great! We simply want to provide the best method for the majority of users. Thanks!

You guys are really getting roasted now in the Google bug report thread for being the only head unit manufacturer remaining after years to have a broken/partially disabled android wifi experience. Refusing to acknowledge and fix the broken implementation is really only angering the loyalist here.
For a true wireless experience you can't currently go Kenwood. Not until fixed! Firmware needs updated by Kenwood before Google will re-enable it.
Doug, We currently offer several Wireless Enabled KENWOOD receivers that work with both Apple Carplay & Android Auto. The receiver you are commenting on is from 2018 and has since been discontinued and replaced with updated receivers equipped with the hardware required to utilized wireless connections. Thanks!

Wish it had been announced earlier that you needed a Google phone in order to use wireless android auto. Bought my stereo for that reason and now I can't use it

James Stewart only a few people online have installed the head units so far (mine still hasn't shipped), nobody has gotten it to work. Google has given no update about since CES. But Seth (the guy who does all these Kenwood training videos) said at a recent expo that it only works with Pixel, Pixel XL, Pixel 2, Pixel 2 XL, Nexus 5X and Nexus 6P.
