Thanks for posting this - after watching was able to change my carb on my 7500 and it too started on the first pull. And yes, I also use the "junk" tool kit for convenience instead of my better tools most of the time!
@@toddshryock1634 I'm glad it was helpful and also that I'm not alone in utilizing the all in 1 "junk" tool set more than my nicely built out tool cabinet, lol. Thanks for the comment.
I’m thinking of doing this. Very good informative video. I have a 6500e and I mistreat it. I power my fifth wheel and the new house under construction. It’s running 12 hours. I think throttle is open. High rpm sounding and sucking up gas
Nice video, thanks. I have the GP8000E (electric start). I think it is the same carburetor. Did you find a place for what looked like a third gasket? Also, what is the purpose of the fine spring wire that connects along side the throttle rod?
I didn't find the place for that gasket, but my guess is that there is a spacer between the cylinder head and the carburetor. That gasket would then go on the engine side of this spacer. I believe that spring is there to lock the linkage into the attachment point on the carb. That or it works in conjunction with the governor to keep the engine running at the correct rpm.
@@BOB12349307 great comment & thanks for the suggestion. I did do an oil change the next day after getting it to run correctly. I didn't create a video on it though.
I just bought the same gp6500 like new but wouldnt start. I sprayed some gas into the carb throttle and it started right up so i oredered a new carb I may clean the original one and store for next time. Great video. My carb should be here today bought it on amazon. I need to drain tank and change fuel filter. What did you do with old gas is there a guicker way to empty tank? I may remove it and change plug as well. Great job.
I used the old gas to start a fire. Lol. You could siphon the gas out of you have one of those. Mine drained way too slow through the fuel line. There is a gas turnoff so you don't need to drain the gas to change the carb, but it's a good idea. Hope the new carb works for you!
@@sankeybryant2739 Amazon, try searching this. Mowtiler GP5500 Carburetor for Generac GP5000 0J58620157 Generator. I'm sure there are plenty of purchase options, but this is the one that I purchased. I used the generator recently, July '24, and it fired right up and ran normal.

It's a simple job. Go for it.
