    I’m not a big fan of Generac’s engines even though they run ok. But at least they put a drain plug in the bowls. The later B&S OHV motors apparently can’t be bothered to do that are on the 5kw generators. Personally I’m a Honda guy.

      Thanks for watching Mr Cliff! If the carb is not too varnished with old fuel, I use a 4:1 water:Pine Sol solution. I find the Pine Sol has enough solvent properties to take care of most dirt, and doesn't dis-color the carb so badly. Great video, easy to follow. But my issue is that the generator starts, but hunts considerably when returned to the run position, until it stalls. Is there a video solution to this issue ?

    • @TheLawnmowerLady
      @TheLawnmowerLady  11 місяців тому

      I would suggest cleaning the carb again with particular care towards the idle circuit. It's usually a screw or plug that has to be removed after removing the idle speed screw. That said, many generators will smooth out running when they are operating a load. I hope this helps.

    This is exactly what I was looking for. This will be my first mechanical fix… ever! My gp5500 won’t start and I’ve tried everything my limited skills know. Checked the carburetor plug, the fuel was drizzling out steady, the oil level was good, and tried to run it and it started for a quick second then stopped. Did this several times with carb fuel to help kick start it but it dies quickly after starting. So, I think I will try following your video since I just found it and it’s so greatly detailed. However, I do not have a parts cleaner. Do you recommend just using carb cleaner and a soft brush to clean it? Thanks

      I would use brake cleaner, less harsh on the plastic bits. Just make sure when you spray into one orifice, it comes out cleanly from another.

    I love the plastic tanks on Generators
    Hate the metal tanks and cleaning the rust out of it
    Be careful what you buy folks

    MY Generac 5500 gave trouble again and replaced carburetor. MY problem is when I start it on choke it runs and starts fine. When I change it to run it wants to stop on and on with no power. what do U think my problem may be. Thanks for keepings us informed with your excellent knowledge.

      I think some aftermarket/replacement carbs are hit or miss. I wish I had better information. Might try a thorough carb clean on the original and see it it helps? Thanks for watching.

    I have a Generac RS7000E. Just followed your video and cleaned the carburetor. (Great video by the way. VERY helpful!) It still won’t start. I followed another video suggestion and unplugged the low oil shutoff sensor to see if it was defective and preventing it from starting but that didn’t help either. Any suggestions?

      A couple of thinks to try... squirt a little fuel directly into the carb throat. If it sputters and coughs a bit, you've confirmed spark and compression. The problem is fuel flow. Start with the basics: spark, fuel, and air. Thanks for watching.

    About when you did this I was working on the exact unit but for some reason the brass bowl nut was broken inside the carb weird. (kids playing around??) i replaced the carb due to the money issues.

    Thank you dear lady. I was in the dark how am I going to dismantle and clean my carb. It is the only item left to check. My machine is new only used once to try it out. Stored for quite long and then after trying it out ...nothing. I wonder whether the manufacturers do this on purpose cos even the ignition went caput. There is nothing there to seize or clog and yet no spark. Now it's the carb turn. Hope it works.

    • @TheLawnmowerLady
      @TheLawnmowerLady  Рік тому

      Glad it was helpful! Do check the oil sensor, that might be the reason for no spark?

      @@TheLawnmowerLady There is a spark cos I changed the coil for a new one. That's why only a cleanup for carb is left . Hope for the best.
