I’m so very proud of you.
I was 17 and pregnant with my daughter in 1986. I was terrified, my family didn’t visit or help emotionally.
Anyway, I wish you all the happiness in the world.

For all the pain, this young man had a loving family and was treated with respect. He formed a decent life and showed that he would be a decent father. That is not a bad legacy. I hope that in the family that he eventually found will find some peace with it.

I feel your pain Steven. I was abandoned many times, handed from stranger to stranger. I traveled halfway across the country before a couple placed me in the orphanage. I was adopted at 5 and have had the best life ever!! Sometimes it’s hard not knowing where you came from but if you focus on the good in your life it’s a lot easier to focus on where you’re going. Best of luck!

This is a situation where no one can understand what abandoned children feel unless you have been through it. It's something I could never imagine doing to my daughter. To Steve's credit, his adoptive parents did a great job with him. He's married, seems to be a great father to his credit. His beautiful daughter will never go through what he did. May he go on to live the best life with his wife and daughter.

Overwhelming sense of lost little boy coming from this lovely, gentle and kind man. Made me want to cuddle him tight and make everything alright for him. How his poor mum missed out on such a wonderful son. Glad to see in the comments below that he found his biological family if not his mum. I hope he is still a happy family man now. xxx

How sad that his Parents missed out on a wonderful little boy. Is he a good person because of his upbringing or due to genetics ? It's hard to say but he sure got lucky that she cared enough to make sure he was left in a safe place. She loved him and not just for those ten days, she loved him enough for life. God bless her for that.
If this was me, I would be looking for a reliable Medium now to make contact with her on the Otherside and see what she had to say.
Reverend Donna Seraphina is very good as well as Sara Saving Spirits. I'd wish Steven all the best in life but it looks like he's already made that for himself.

I was 18, about to graduate high school, and pregnant in 1986. I was alone and scared sh*tless that I would be found out. I didn't know what would happen, and able to hide my condition until my 35th week. Everything I feared my family would do came true. I was kicked out of my home, not spoken to nor visited, then bribed to give my baby up for adoption. Fully paid for college, an apartment, plus a car. But nope. I worked through it, keeping my daughter. At times of deep depression I wondered what could have been my life had I gone that route. In the end, I put myself through school, got a place to live, and 5 years later even bought the same car my grandmother tried to bribe me with. I admire your empathy. 💜 Always know there are 3 types of "family"; biological, legal, and chosen. Sometimes your chosen family is the best one for you.💜

If you were my daughter and you were pregnant I would be happy no matter what no matter what age no matter any of the conditions...... there's so many bad parents out there doing the wrong thing, or being too demanding too rude to their kids..... my son is 21 he's never met his dad but his dad moved far away and we didn't have his phone number he moved to a village in Mexico.... but we are in the u.s. my son has had a really good life and he never is concerned about a father because I am his mom and dad and his good friend..... everybody loves my son...... in the beginning it was only my mom that was rude but then everybody else in my family told her to shut up and then after that everything went great and everything was fine

Of course she hasn't. But I think she means well. A lot of adoptive parents think that their love should be enough for a child. They don't realise that adopted children still need to know where they came from and even why their own mothers gave them away. Almost every adopted child I've ever met still feels that same missing link to their own identity.

I was given up for adoption at age 3 months. In 1954 I was told a brother approximately 2 years of age was given up as well. I was in foster care for 2 years and adopted in 1956 . I had wonderful parents. I have never been able to find either parent though I did find out their names as I was born in a hospital. My brother if I had one was not mentioned on my original birth certificate.
I am 63 now and have no regrets but I do understand your desire to find out about why you were abandoned. I am glad you were adopted by a loving family as I was. Good luck to you but it does turn out to be ok if you do not find out. Your loved and have your own family....God Bless

Hopefully he becomes a voice to all the snappiness babies out in the UK and helps to pass some sort of policies to help ensure the crucial beginning information is saved for those babies that are abandoned.. Like he said it fills many gaps when they actually do begin to search for information on their individual story.. Thanks for sharing your story. It was absolutely amazing and inspirational. To see what an amazing father he has become is truly beautiful.. Hope he gets all of his unanswered questions answered and most IMPORTANTLY I truly pray he is able to meet good birth parents if not both of them at least one of them .. Best of wishes.. Good luck and God bless ..

Wow 😢 I can't imagine what Steven is going through. I'm a mama of five and I can't fathom ever abandoning my baby let alone hope that a good person will end up finding him/her and will call the police for help and not a deranged child abuser or a pedophile. I'm very lucky to live in a country that has a safe haven law that helps to keep baby's safe. It allows mothers and fathers to surrender a baby to a designated drop off spot which is at hospital's, police station's or fire department's and not be asked any questions or be arrested and put in jail. It's a lot better than leaving a baby alone in a praying someone finds them. I pray that Steven finds his mom and or finds closer.

I wonder if his mother might've been a very young teen (13-16), someone with a very violent parent/spouse, or a rape victim. Those seem like situations where someone might be operating on panic and not thinking clearly. Since he was clean and nourished, he was probably loved and cherished by his biological mother. It wasn't a case of just not caring. I think the most important thing is to appreciate the family he does have. Many of us who know our biological parents didn't grow up with anything near the love and support he received. I don't happen to think your biological family can tell you anything about yourself that medical testing couldn't reveal. You're more than biology, and your experiences define you much more than the genetics you're born with.

For e.g., how to call people in America of dark skin with African background; these abandoned children were called foundlings...

Abandonment of a child has much more far reaching emotional disturbances. I am 72 years old, and my maternal grandfather was a foundling!
Also, both families were dysfunctional, and so I was mostly brought up in institutions, and lost touch with extended family. Why did no one care? Why was myself and siblings forgotten?
Conditions crop up unexpectedly, in looks, mental and emotional quirks etc. And the fact is, that without some kind of known background, the question of who you are, where and who you were from, can not be answered. It seems to be a deep seated need in humans; hence the big businesses of ancestry etc. M

You have turned out to be a good person and will make a wonderful dad to your little girl... Don't dwell on the past, as I am sure your birth Mum had her reasons why she did what she did....All my love to you and your family and I wish you the best for the future XXX

@Linda Dobbs -- Wow, it was YOUR Grandfather who was abandoned and Yet, it's you & your sinlings who also experienced abandonment also by your mother?? Did I understand that correctly??
I'm very sad that it seems your family never truly knew how to take responsibility of their actions and keep, raising the children that resulted.
If your 72, this would mean that you're birth year is roughly 1944, in the midst of World War II... unclear if you're American born or born in Europe. And then take into account the likelihood that your grandfather was possibly born in 1900s, perhaps late 1880s to 1900. Lots of immigrants coming into America at that time and also the whole Industrial Revolution and the surge of city living and the increase of factory workers who are barely surviving the city slum and squalor along with the abuse and mistreatment of the factory owners against the workers... long, exhausting shifts working for minimal pay, meager pay amount that could hardly be called a "wage".
Who knows what happened to those who lived in the city back in those days... rats and dead animals (horses, cats, dogs, maybe chickens) and the sewage running in the streets and along the sidewalks and the trash/garbage piling up in the ghettos and neighborhoods.
Wow. It's certainly interesting how people lived back then and how folks survived to make ends meet... it certainly says a lot about the children who stayed to raise the younger siblings and keep their little family of kids together especially when the parents took off and never came back or Maybe they/parent met up with foulplay?
I hope that by 72/73 yrs old that you've found a way to let go, cope and handle the abandonment you experienced as a child... and hopefully, never inflicted those feelings of emotional pain and scars felt by Leslie D(¿avis)
Yeah -- I'm just enjoying the pretty sunset and the sunset... They somehow were able to pick-up and continue on with their lives... very resilient as children and then by young adult aged, became aloof, and unemotional to cope....

Well, I think the government should rather do this:
It struck me that many abandoned babies don't survive till they get found. And that's something the government can help: make it possible, that those children are abandonded in a place where they survive and are found quickly.

i think the call was real. the fact he was clean looked after. i think she was scared of her father. which prompted the call a plea to stop going public. some girls are petrified of their fathers. which makes them act totally out of character. i think steve needs to come to terms with the fact, his mother had no choice but leave him. she did it the best way she could. she prolly was under age. which is scary for a teen girl with dominant father. i would like to think id never abandon a baby. but when i look at my own teens..had i got pregnant i would have panic beyond belief. my father would have totally lost the plot.

Nicki Nite as a man a father you pray for the love and respect of your children, the fact that this girl was so terrified of her father
That she left a her own flesh and blood in a public toilet, breaks my heart ,the crime of instilling such fear in your own child is a unforgivable sin ,irony probably a hellfire and damnation religious man ,whose faith has cost him the love and comfort of a beautiful grandson! God would not be amused!

Such a nice well adjusted young man. I think your birth mother probably gave you a gift because you were raised by a lovely family.

Oh Steven.. What a touching story. I’m adopted and i was blessed by two of the most amazing parents in the world. Your head can fill with every possible scenario. We were given a second chance and that’s so important!
