I can't believe that you lose subscribers with these extremely helpful videos! I am due to renew my temp residency and trying to decide whether or not to hire a facilitator. This video was very informative!!!
Dry and thorough information is just the way I like it. Everything is still accurate as of June 2023 in Chapala. If you have an address change, it must be done prior to residency extension. Once system is updated overnight to show your new address, you can go back with correct form for extension. Also, don't forget your passport. Took me 3 trips to complete, but it was worth the experience.
I just renewed my temporary residency a couple of weeks ago. Even though I speak decent Spanish, and the INM officers here are fluent in English, and I actually know one of the officers, the money I spent (about $60) to have a facilitator was absolutely money well spent.
Hey Paul - super helpful as always. Just a couple notes here based on our experience with this today. It wasn't clear from the video that the "letter" requirement is actually required no matter what, so if you don't have one of the specific special circumstances you still need to print the 3rd letter template to verify that your circumstance for residency is the same. The video makes it sound like you only need this if it's a "special" circumstance. As with everything - this could be inconsistent, but this was the Puerto Vallarta INM. Additionally, could be helpful to be a little more specific on the info requested for this letter. We entered our passport numbers for the number it requested but it should've been our residency numbers. In retrospect this seems obvious, but that info was glanced over in the video and could be helpful for someone else in the future to go through. Fortunately the office just let us cross it out and put the right number in pen. Thanks amigo!
Thanks Paul, renewing my residency was a piece of cake thanks to your video. I arrived in León just before the office opened. @@sherridean3100 hi Sherri, I think with your deadline approaching so rapidly, that I would make a personal visit, especially since May 1 is a national holiday here.

Thank-you Paul for this very helpful tutorial! I went to the Morelia INM office this afternoon to renew my Temporary Residence Visa for an additional 3-years; no appointment was required and there was absolutely no wait, what a pleasant surprise. I discovered if you have changed your address, as I have, you will be required to complete a "change of residence" on the same site as Paul's link before your Visa can be renewed. There was no charge for the change of address and it was immediately available to print off and bring to the INM office upon website completion.
Good video - I did this recently - and it is totally something you can do yourself. However - important to keep up to date, because the details change a little each time. If you need to update your address, you can do it at the same time - but you still have to fill out a separate 'tramite' for that operation. And regarding payment - payment with card at INM is much easier - if you go to a bank you have to make sure you paid for the correct procedure. There are several procedures in the drop down list that look identical, and though the fee is identical, the money goes into a wrong account - you will have to do it again if that happens - don't ask how I know this.
This does clear up a question for me for my upcoming renewal - I need to do a change of address because I left Mexico and don't intend on going back to where my previous address change was, just to get my renewal.
Your videos are so helpful, please keep doing them! I just moved to Puerto Vallarta a week ago and was lost on what documents to bring to submit for a temporary residence. I followed your video and did the steps, and I got my card! Thanks!
Helpful video, I would never trust any gestor or anyone other than yourself. The process in the INM office in Tabasco is easy and fast. This is compared to any government office, especially DMV, in the US.
Happy 2024 Paul. By any chance are you planning to do an updated video for 2024? Also I may have missed this but for those that obtained Temporary Residency through financial solvency and are renewing from the one year to the three year, are they required to submit proof of finances again? Thanks for all you do!
Very useful video. I was able to successfully renew mine on my own, following these steps (I speak Spanish). One tip: when you fill in your NUE, the form is automatically completed (you can edit any fields if necessary). Thanks a ton!

I don’t know why I go into high anxiety. All this is probably so simple, but yes, it’s not consistent which brings on the anxiety my renewals in August truly appreciate all your time and effort, and putting all the information that is needed. Thank you God bless.
Hi Paul! Hope you and Linda are doing great! Thanks for this tutorial. I have to go in this month and renew my TR Visa for the additional three years and this has come in handy. Gracias de nuevo desde Ensenada!
I just had to do a change of address, this was brutal. Three different days and a total of 18 hours later. Finally completed. A video on RFC-CIF and e-frima would be helpful. I keep getting denied on the SAT-ID page.
They don't make anything easy, do they? I mention the e-firma in another vidro but a dedicated video would be helpful. Thanks for following the channel and taking the time to comment. Take care.
So we are coming down in February to finish the process for our temporary visa for the first time. Do I need to have an address prepared for them? We don’t plan to stay in the same part of Mexico each time we come down and don’t own anything in Mexico as we stay in Airbnb/hotels. Any suggestions?
Glad to report that after 6 months, I got RFC. The rules has changed again and they only needed 3 documents (resident card, electric bill and appointment sheet). No copies no photos no fingerprints.
After watching your video (excellent by the way) and other similar videos, I've decided to take your advice and pay someone to do all the heaving lifting. In fact I had already contacted an office in San Miguel de Allende, but I started second guessing the cost. It seemed pricey and the process for doing it myself seemed easy enough. BUT the INNMs appointment scheduler website is down and I've seen how people have to wait in line all day and night to get in the doors. So I decided to say screw it and just pay someone. I honestly hate lines and waiting. And they already have an appointment made for me so I just need to show up and pay.
I did this myself a few months ago. Luckily my wife is able to translate all the web pages for me. Only tip I might add is that when paying for my 3 year extension (why wouldn't I re-new once vs 3 times?) the bank kept my payment form. So make a copy before visiting the bank. I also did view your previous videos on the subject, very helpful!
Thank you for this great info. I do have a question about generating the letter asking for renewal. If it is a straight renewal, which of the green links would I use to generate the letter?
Thanks, Paul! Actually, I found this very interesting and super helpful. My wife and I managed to get our Temporary Residency Visas last year with your expert help. One question: last week, we renewed our Canadian passports. Passport numbers and, of course, pictures have changed. Do I have to fill out a form either for the Immigration office in Mexico or the consulate in Canada to inform them of these changes? Many thanks for these excellent videos.
not sure if you ever got an answer to this, but based on my experience today when renewing residency using a passport that was renewed since I initially got temp residency, this presented no issue and at no point did they suggest that we should have changed this information on file. The only thing we weren't able to do was use our CURP to auto-fill the information for renewal because it was putting in our old passport number and wouldn't let us update it, so had to fill out the forms manually again
When you fill out the "letter" form, you will be asked for "Número del documento migratorio". That number is on the back of your Residente Temporal card, and it most probably like this:
All good info, I renewed mine last year but need to do la familias this year...hoping to get the card same day . A little confused on if you have to go to INM office in your state or can you go to a different one? (Reason being that in La Paz you have to wait a week and a half to get it (unless you use a facilitator which I'm hoping to avoid) so I'm hoping to do it in Mazatlan ...
Hi Paul. thank you for sharing this information. under the requirements section 5 "other docs based on the circumstances", I was wondering which condition applies if you got your temporary residency through financial solvency? do i still need to show my paystub?
Paul, good info as usual. We need a video on printing a hard copy of the FMM within 60 days of arrival in Mexico. Now that they are stamping and writing days in the passport and tourist entries now don't have a hard copy of entry. The hard copy is necessary to get a TIP on foreign plated vehicles.
When you are from the US be aware that the dates in Mexico are done dd/mm/yyyy and not mm/dd/yyyy. My friend from the US got his residencia permanente with the wrong date of birth - which also means a wrong CURP. So another trip to the INM for him.
For those that are renewing the RT, you can make an appointment to renew up to 30 before your card expires. If you are out of Mexico when your card expires, you will then have 55 days to enter Mexico using the expired card and then an additional 5 days to make an appointment with INM to renew.

Great information! But I was looking for the video on how the second step in the residency process. I watched it a month ago and it was what convinced me that we must get a facilitator! Want to watch it again to show husband. But it’s disappeared? Says not available on my ipad. Any clues?
Very helpful indeed. Has anyone had to provide a letter stating their conditions (living/income) has not changed? I saw it in another video. Just wondering.
Under "Requirements" there are three links for "Renewal letter". You want to click the third one, "Renewal letter proving that the conditions subsist." The link opens a window where you fill out your name, nationality, NUE, address, etc., and then click the button labeled GENERAR. This generates the letter and displays it in a window where you can download a copy and print the letter. Take that letter with you to the INM office. I'm not sure if you have to sign it in front of the INM agent, or if you can sign it in advance, but it requires your signature and the current date.
Hey Paul. quick question! If you qualified for temp residency due to meeting financial requirements, do you choose the "special circumstance" as your condition of stay? Also, would I be correct in assuming you have to show that you still meet the financial requirements by bringing copies of your bank accounts?
Section 5 talks about documents to prove residency. What about the people who obtain residency through economic solvency. Do they have to provide any more documents?
Hello, really good information. We are temporary residents and own a home in Cajititlan. We need to renew our cards before January 3rd. Due to my Wife's business we can't be in Mexico for more than a few weeks at this time. We really need to get an appointment for renewal and address change before our cards expire. Do you have any contacts in Guadalajara that can get us an appointment and help with a few forms. We thank you for all your great videos and your spanish videos. Thanks much
I'm in Ensenada where you don't need an appointment and they aren't crowded at all. When I got the there at 7:45am there was just me and the gate guard there. I was first in line and there were a total 10 people behind me when they opened at 9:00am. I was in and out in less than an hour with my renewed card and by 10:30 I was eating my first of three fish tacos con todo for brunch!
Need a Facilitator for Mexicali - I got through the initial Temporary Residency card process successfully a couple of weeks ago but wouldn't mind some help in round two next year.
Hey Paul Thanks for this very informative video & making it all easy for us. I do have one more question though, should I be using the same link to renew my temporary residency card if it’s within 55days after expiring. I will be going back to mexico soon to renew it. Thanking in advance
Thanks for the info. So, as a retired person granted temporary residency by economic solvency, is this a special circumstance requiring the statement (5.e under requirements) that nothing's changed? Thanks again for all you do!
The director at the particular INM office can really throw a wrench into the works as well. I have to renew my one year temporary coming up, but due to a medical procedure I have to have, I can't stick around to wait for the card which could take weeks to come back. I unfortunately had to do the same thing last year for work and leave, but they let me sign a form and pay a penalty as long as I came back within 60 days to finish the process and get my card. This year the director at my local INM office isn't granting those exceptions, told the person I am having help me with it that if the person can't stay long enough to wait for the card to come back, that they can just start the whole process all over again back in the United States at the consulate office whenever I would not anticipate any disruptions. That would mean several years wasted down the drain to start from square one not to mention the expense and difficulty it took to even get a consulate appointment in the U.S. I'm not happy about this and not sure what to do.
Sorry to hear that. They do like to make things unnecessarily arduous. The options here are to go to another INM office or to seek the assistance of a "facilitator". They are often more successful at getting things done at INM since they have existing relationships there -- and no, I'm not talking about a bribe. One of my friends was unsuccessful at getting a permit to leave while his card was processed but the facilitator got one for him at the same INM office without an issue.
@@qroo yes I am using a facilitator and this is what she told me the director is doing now. We may have to play a game where we switch my address to a different state and use their INM office then switch me back to my old address after, but isn't that a ridiculous process to have to go through for one obstinate person?
I renewed mine in less than an hour and got my new card at the INM in Ensenada. I've been there twice and didn't need an appointment because both times there were no lines. Each time I've been there I was there at 7:30am and was the first of about ten people in line when they opened at 9:00am. Muy facil!
Hi Paul, I m getting ready to renew for 3 years in Feb., however, since i am retired now an i able to renew for permanent residency now rather than renew for the 3 years first ?
One snag that you won't be able to anticipate is the INM office's internet service being down, as it was for us today in Chapala. I kind of wondered why the place was empty at 9:30 AM. 😆 And there is no phone number to call them in advance to find out. Just "You can try again on Monday." *SIGH*
In the section Escrito "Renovacion acreditando que subsisten las condiciones" It's asking for "Numero del Documento Migratorio". What number do they want there? NUE? CURP? Passport,?Something else?
Thank you so much! Timing is perfect for me as I have to do this in Sept and I am already making trip plans. I will hire a facilitator but it was nice to know from the video that I need the address I applied with. I am not living there yet, but hopefully soon. Questions: 1 Do I have to renew in the same INM office where I got my card? Or maybe it would just be easier? That office does appointments-or did in Sept. 2 What about timing? I know I have to have it done before expiration, but how soon can I start? How much pad time should I add? I get so much out of your videos! Muchas gracias y felices vacaciones.
Both. You get a discount for renewing more than one year at a time, plus you get to avoid returning to the INM office for that length of time (unless you change your Mexican address)
I need to re-new my temp resident card this Fall. I did the initial approval in Rosarito. Do you know if I can do the re-newel in Mazatlan?, or does INM require me to go back to Rosarito? Thank you if you can help! I'm bummed out you had to leave Mexico, but maybe you'll get back there. I plan on moving there part time in 4 years after retirement. Damon.
I'm wondering the same thing. I would like to keep my address (in Oaxaca) but apply at a different INM office (in Monterrey) as I won't be in Oaxaca at that time.
Does renewal HAVE to be completed on the 1year date of when I received my card? Because I have to go to MX next year to close on a condo about 4 months before my residency card anniversary date...can I renew early while I am there??
We're gonna pay at the office for 3 years renewal, but do we have to state it online 3 years renewal, before we go there? Because the form that we filled out already online, it doesn't say it how long.
Hi! During my initial 1 year of temp residency I ended up outside of the country longer than expected. I still plan to move back to Mexico so I want to extend my temp residency for 3 years. Since I have been out of Mexico for 6 months, I don't have a new current address but could use a friend's that differs from the previous address I had (new city/ state too). Can I just update the address when I renew to that address? And am I able to renew my residency at a different INM office than where I obtained my initial residency? I want to just fly back to Mexico City (where the new residential address is that I will use as well) to renew and then when I get back more permanently I can update my address with INM then. Do you know if this will work?
Thanks Paul. My wife will have to renew for the first time in a couple months since she is still working in the US and going back and forth. I'm retired so I went permanent. I'm not looking forward to going through the steps again for her since the last time took several months and many visits. Now that she has an RFC and CURP it should be somewhat less trying. However, last year I thought I understood that she has to renew at a consulate in the US. Can she also renew the US car that is attached to her temporary residency here at our local INM office using online forms?
Thank you very much for making these videos, Paul! They are very helpful and informative. I do have a couple questions if you don't mind and have the time. 1. Do you know if it's ok to fill/print this form(expedicion de documento migratorio por renovacion) early? I still have 3 months before my TR expires. I have some free time right now and would like to get it done but am wondering if this could cause problems being that it shows the current date that the form was filled out. Obviously, it wouldn't be in the 30 day window of expiration. 2. I clicked on your link for the formato basico and everything is "grayed" out. Is that because all of the offices are now doing this electronically during your appointment? I plan on renewing in San Miguel de Allende. Thanks, i really appreciate your time and expertise!
Amigos, my temporary residency expired in april and i am leaving mexico for medical reasons snd never returning will i have a issue leaving, please help!
Do you still have to let them know of address change even if it’s only for a temporary residency? What is the penalty if it’s longer than 90 days? Will they check any documents about address change for proof?
Paul, I have a question when applying for a Temp Residency Visa. There is an option to add a spouse (or other dependent) by "adding 100 days of the current general minimum wage in Mexico City" per the Houston, TX consult site. Question: Will the dependent ALSO receive a temporary residency visa? Or would my husband and I EACH need to complete our own Temporary Residency Visa form? TIA
I successfully processed my temporary residency (Sept-Oct 2022). Are there specific rules about when I can begin the 3-year renewal process? I would just like to get it done ASAP (Plus will be heading back to the "old country" in August/Sept 2023). Thanks. Very much appreciate your sharing of this knowledge!
No, not usually. You may want to bring your official SS statement showing your new benefits or the one you originally qualified with just to be safe. I'm in Ensenada and they were very easy to work with and didn't ask for anything extra.
I just contacted someone to help with the 3 year renewal. They are trying to tell me the express service is $,1800 USD + the renewal fee of $9,000Pesos + their fee of $300USD. This sounds like a scam to me. Do you have any recommendations for people that can help in Playa Del Carmen?
Thanks for the video Paul. Last year, we followed your recommendation and hired Adriana to help us secure our Temporary Resident cards. She's the best! We're traveling back to Mexico to renew our cards for the first time and chose the 3 year renewal option. I've been reading mixed things about some changes in the process since we got our cards last January. When we got our cards the first time, we got them instantly on the same day as our appointment. Now I'm hearing it can take up to 3 weeks to get your cards, and they're no longer issuing the cards on the same day. If that's true.. we're going to have to make 2 trips to Mexico to renew our cards (not that that's a bad thing..) Do you know if this rumor is true? Are they no longer issuing cards on the same day as your appointment? (For clarification: We're renewing at the office in Playa Del Carmen)
If you don't get it the same day, while your paperwork is in process i believe you can't leave the country till you get your new card. So check on that too.
It's currently at least a 3 week rate right now in PDC. You can get an emergency exit letter but it will cost you more and you have to be back in country within 60 days.
@@paulcovert5781 see my other response to this in the comments, my immigration office in my town has decided few months ago he won't issue the emergency exit letters, that if we can't stick around we can just go back to the U.S. and start all over from square one

Very helpful and thorough. Best vid out there on the subject. Thank you!
Thank you so much for this video, I have a bit of time before I have to renew but I appreciate the info! I subscribed because of this ☺️
Your infor is truly appreciated, Linda and you are a blessing to us that seek your help . Gracias 😊
You are so welcome.
Paul mucho gracias for this info. I don’t understand why people would unsubscribe it’s not all fun and games lol🙄🤭🤣
It's a mystery to me too, bt it happens every time....lol.
It wasn't dry at all, I had a margarita while watching. Nice timing on this since I will be doing it in March.
A margarita would make it seem more interesting...lol.
You do a good job on these videos. Thank you.
Very useful information. Thank you for this video Paul. All the best 👍
If they took appointments online like most 1st world countries then I'd do it myself. But we're obviously not in Kansas anymore.
Hi. When did you go to get your extension was it one week, two weeks/ a month before your temporary residency expired?
Hasta Luego is back I love it!!
I hope everything is going well for you folks.
We're doing okay. We hope things are going well for you too. Good luck on your channel also. :)
@@qroo Thanks. Renewing my temporary residency in Mazatlan in a couple of weeks. I really appreciate all the hard work you put into your channel.
Do you have informations about how to change the four year R. To permanent?
You are great...Thanks Paul...❤
Thanks Qroo Paul im going to need this soon
Hi Paul! Do you have a separate video on changing RT to RP after four years of RT?
Great question!!
Where can I find a facilitator for renewing temp residency. Currently living in Oaxaca, but moving to Puebla for Spanish School, thanks.
This is excellent thank you...do you have one for applying Permanent Residency once you've reached the four years of temp?
Not yet but that is on my list. I figured I would know out some tutorial videos while I am sitting around with the family for the holidays.
@@qroo That's so great of you..thumbs up on everything..merry Xmas & New Year Paul!!
Thank you for this great info. I do have a question about generating the letter asking for renewal. If it is a straight renewal, which of the green links would I use to generate the letter?
Does anyone have experience renewing during the grace period? (60 days after residency expires if you were out of Mexico when your residency expired)
Thanks so very much!
Thank you for saving my money
When you fill out the "letter" form, you will be asked for "Número del documento migratorio". That number is on the back of your Residente Temporal card, and it most probably like this:
Subscribed!
Thank you
Paul, good info as usual.
We need a video on printing a hard copy of the FMM within 60 days of arrival in Mexico. Now that they are stamping and writing days in the passport and tourist entries now don't have a hard copy of entry.
The hard copy is necessary to get a TIP on foreign plated vehicles.
That's on my short list actually.
Thanks Q Roo!
Did you experience this? I am currently in this situation so this could be good news for me. Which INM office did you use?

@@FLANNELSHIRT I'm all set. Received 3yr renewal in July.
Is there any required documents for folks who got the residency by economic solvency? Thanks
Nothing special required. You will not be required to show economic documents again.
Thanks so much. Very helpful to know the process. When should one apply for renewal? Is it 30 days before the card expires?
Yes, 30 days but if you are in an area where INM makes appointments, you can schedule it so it falls in that window.
@@qroo Just to clarify--is it within 30 days or at least 30 days?
You need to do it 30 days BEFORE your visa expires😊
Hey Paul. quick question!
Can you please do one current one, going from temporary resident to permanent resident please 🙏🏼 2024.
Hey Paul
Thanks for this very informative video & making it all easy for us.
Muy facil!
Hi Paul,
I m getting ready to renew for 3 years in Feb., however, since i am retired now an i able to renew for permanent residency now rather than renew for the 3 years first ?
One snag that you won't be able to anticipate is the INM office's internet service being down, as it was for us today in Chapala. I kind of wondered why the place was empty at 9:30 AM. 😆 And there is no phone number to call them in advance to find out. Just "You can try again on Monday." *SIGH*
How long before you temporary resident expires can you apply for a new one?
In the section Escrito "Renovacion acreditando que subsisten las condiciones" It's asking for "Numero del Documento Migratorio". What number do they want there? NUE? CURP? Passport,?Something else?
I have the same question. Any answer???
This should be the number on the back of your visa (temporary residency) card. It will say something like, "No. XXXXXXXX".
Thank you so much! Timing is perfect for me as I have to do this in Sept and I am already making trip plans. I will hire a facilitator but it was nice to know from the video that I need the address I applied with. I am not living there yet, but hopefully soon.
Questions:
1 Do I have to renew in the same INM office where I got my card? Or maybe it would just be easier? That office does appointments-or did in Sept.
2 What about timing? I know I have to have it done before expiration, but how soon can I start? How much pad time should I add?
I get so much out of your videos! Muchas gracias y felices vacaciones.
You can renew only as early as 30 days before expiration.
@@richskinny668 Thank you!

Why pay in advance? Is it to get a discount with annual torture visits, or to skip the annual visits and moving on to permanent residency?
If you pay for 3 years, you do not have to return to INM to do this process again the very next year.
Damon.
What is the "Número del documento migratorio"? It isn't the NUE or CURP, so far as I can tell.
Renewal can be done one month prior to expiration of temporary visa, right?
Hi, Paul. Can a temporary resident renew their card at any INM office in Mexico or does it have to be at the original one applied at? Thanks.
In "Renovacion acreditando que subsisten las condiciones" It's asking for "Numero del Documento Migratorio". What number is that???
Do you still have to let them know of address change even if it’s only for a temporary residency? What is the penalty if it’s longer than 90 days? Will they check any documents about address change for proof?
Paul, I have a question when applying for a Temp Residency Visa. There is an option to add a spouse (or other dependent) by "adding 100 days of the current general minimum wage in Mexico City" per the Houston, TX consult site. Question: Will the dependent ALSO receive a temporary residency visa? Or would my husband and I EACH need to complete our own Temporary Residency Visa form? TIA
What are the fees for permanent residency as of 2023? I believe it would be cheaper than getting temporary and renewing yearly. Regards and thank you
I successfully processed my temporary residency (Sept-Oct 2022). Are there specific rules about when I can begin the 3-year renewal process? I would just like to get it done ASAP (Plus will be heading back to the "old country" in August/Sept 2023). Thanks. Very much appreciate your sharing of this knowledge!
No sooner than 30 days prior to expiration of current 1 yr temp
Hi! I’m in my first year of temporary residency in Mexico. Do I have to show financial documents to renew my temporary residency?
No, not usually. You may want to bring your official SS statement showing your new benefits or the one you originally qualified with just to be safe. I'm in Ensenada and they were very easy to work with and didn't ask for anything extra.
Thank you!

Can you renew at any INM office or only the offices in major towns?
Can I start to do this even though I don’t have to go back till June? Like is it ok to fill out now?
