thank you for postng this link! the URL on my print out isnt working and the only on ei could find online is by land. THANK YOU!
It's for small incredibly time-saving videos like this that UA-cam is probably at it's best. Thanks!
Paul, Thank you for the leg work. I speak Spanish and I think I would have not been able to complete the form without the step-by-step instructions you provided. Great Job! Thank you, sir.
I am at the Mex City International Airport right now. There is a handwritten sign where the INM booth is. It says tourist, visitors do not need to get stamped by customs. Just go to your gate and they’ll collect the INM customs receipt (that you received when you landed) when you board. This information is current as of 3/29/23.
Is it still accurate till now ? The link on the receipt does not work
That link does not work correctly. So mexico must have changed this again
Any news on the link? It doesnt work and I can't get the FMMD

Very interesting Paul. I have not left or re-entered since 2020! I am looking forward to formless travel. Thanks.
I'm looking forward for the paperless system to be adopted at all entry points including land crossings.
@@qroo Now that will be and awesome thing. We first came to Mexico in 1987 and stayed until 1991, and in those days, that paperwork was harder to get and keep. Lucky for us, since we stayed in the Yucatan, we could cross the Belize border for renewal, or even once, Guatemala. My Permanent Residency has been a game changer for that mess though!
As of a week ago, INM at the Chetumal land border required a standard FMM for temp. and permanent Mexico residentes entering Belize. The passport stamp procedure had not been adopted there, so I had to fill out an FMM at the INM checkpoint. They may or may not accept your computer-printed FMM since it is not the standard front-and-back form. Thjey have forms at the checkpoint, it just takes a bit of time to fill it out.
This is only to print an FMM after entering locations that have gone paperless such as Cancun, Puerto Vallarta etc. -- and only if you need that document for something. The common reasons are to complete their residency process or renew their TIP.
Incredible timing, my wife and I are arriving in Mexico City Jan 5 to complete our residency. Thank you Paul and Mark!
Our pleasure!
Thank you for this! Wish this video was available 3 months ago! This new process has really screwed up my husband's TR process big time. We knew to watch for the "CANJE" and "30 días" marks on our passports, and those were all in order. However, as we discovered during our appointment at the INM, their agent at the port of entry failed to actually ENTER him into the electronic system, despite apparently having placed his passport on the scanner. This cost us many thousands of pesos, many trips to FOUR INM offices and airports both at the port of entry in PVR and in ZLO where we processed, several feverish 5-6 hour trips back n fourth between the cities, and his entire vacation to fix. Because absolutely NOBODY was willing to help us at ANY of the immigration offices we've dealt with, in either city. Only one guy was willing to do something, and this was what has finally saved us.
Arrggh, what a pain! I'm glad you were able to get it worked out.
We are in the same boat. Can you please give me contact info for the guy who helped you?
FWIW, two friends came in through Guadalajara to complete their PR. I entered their passports on my INM account, but could only find an FMME for one of them. Since they both had proper stamps in their passport, I figured no worries, and took them to INM in Morelia. The one with the printed FMME got her PR card quickly, but the other was stuck. They said they needed to have Mexico City find it, and told us to come back in two hours, which we did. Smiles all around -- apparently the airport scanner or data entry clerk entered the letter 'O' instead of a zero from his passport number. That's why I couldn't find his FMME -- the passport numbers didn't match. But the nice folks at Morelia INM had already downloaded and printed my friend's FMME, and the rest was smooth sailing.
I know people grouse about INM in areas that are thick with foreigners, but in Morelia, the waiting room is usually empty and they couldn't be nicer or more helpful, although they are still sticklers for following the law and the rules. Unfortunately, you have to be a resident of Michoacán to use this office.
MERRY CHRISTMAS 🎅 🎄 ❤️
Merry Christmas. :)
About 3 months ago we failed to understand this when we went through the airport. There was a QR code but we couldn't get it to work for our needs before we went to INM. I ended up paying an immigration lawyer $25 usd to do it for me. Not that I need it now(with residency completed) but I've started entering data for my family for when they travel Sweet! Thanks! You do the best work for people like me!!
Thanks, Kirk. Sorry this one came out too late to help you though. :)

This video was great way to explain my only problem is now I’m here in Mexico but the fmmd button not working 😢
Thanks for the info. I would like to share what I'm going trough right now that I have never seen discussed on any youtube travel blog. In January I am traveling to Oaxaca from San Diego using the cross border express and flying out of Tijuana. One of the requirements is that you fill out the FMM form online and print it out. All was going well until I entered arrival and departure dates. My US passport expires in May 2023 and my travel dates are January 15-22,2023 The website for FMM's would not let me complete the application and gave the error message stating that my arrival date needs to be 180 days before my passport expires. So now I have to make an appointment at the the passport office to get an expedited passport (extra $60) Unable to make an appointment until 2 weeks prior to travel for an expedited passport renewal and with the holidays I was informed that I would have to wait until January 3 to call for an appointment. At this point I am not sure that I will receive my passport in time for my trip. Stand to lose a lot of dinero with airfare and accommodations that are non refundable. So I hope this might help someone in the future. Feliz Navidad!
Thanks for sharing that. I haven't heard of that one before.
Hey Qroo Paul, can you please do a video on the best Mexican car insurance for U.S. temporary residents driving to Mexico? We need help! 😀 Also, thank you for all you do helping everyone!

Hi Paul, thank you for all your videos.
We are flying to Cancun on Jan 5th to start our temporary residency process.
Do we have to do this before we leave or after arrival.
Read somewhere not to create account before we get through immigration.
Thank you Lenka
So after I complete this, is the FMM linked to my passport?
QUESTION: Why do we need a "printed copy" of the FMMD document AFTER we enter Mexico? Why not BEFORE? Thank you.
Thank you for another helpful video! This doe not work for land crossings?
I believe the land crossings are still using the old system. The paperless program is at most of the international airports now. It is easier when coming and going but some people will still need to print an FMM for the purpose of renewing their TIP (temporary vehicle import permit) or completing their residency.
Excellent video
I have a Schengen visa and I can enter Mexico but can I apply for temporary residence permit?
Your help is appreciated
Hi quick question so i just arrived 2 days ago to mexico they didn't give us fmm but i just saw on my passport it have a date with a pen it says may 13 2023 im thinking that the time they gave me but what can i do if i want to stay longer like 90 days and do they check the stamp when you go back to the US?
Hi Paul, thanks for the valueble information .... i am flying to Mexico City in January 2024 to complete my second phase of my permanent residence permit. I have two specific questions, do you know if Mexico has paper FMM or do they have the digital FMMD? also, when you follow the process and finally print the FMMD, does this need to be signed/stamped by immigration at the airport before this will be accepted as part of the Canje process?
Hi Paul I forgot to show my residency card to INM when leaving cancun airport . I am returning what do I do..
We have tried every angle and photo and keeps coming back error and won't except ANY PHOTO. Can we obtain paper hard copies at the airport? We are traveling to guadalajara next week to process our PR. However we are getting this done in Mexico City. We are using the legal team you cited, Immigration to Mexico.
Does it have to be completed every time you want to enter Mexico?
Great video. Thanks! I flew into an airport that does not require an FMM however I am planning a trip soon to another airport in Mexico that does still requires an FMM. Would I need this if I am still staying within Mexico?
No, this is for people who enter via an airport that does not require an FMM but still need one to renew their TIP (vehicle import permit) or complete their residency process.
I have a friend traveling with me to CDMX with a passport from the Cayman Islands. Does she need to go through this process for a digital FMM? She will be in Mexico for about a week as a tourist. Thank you.
The bank still in Mexico at the Belize border require a printed copy to get a new TIP for you vehicle that you left in Mexico when you left last time.
Do all of this in the video before you get there.
Remember to do this as soon as possible after you arrive. You only have a short time after arrival to print this from the government website.
Good point. This is needed by the TIP folks as well.
Thanks for that info about duration. I just checked my account for the friend who flew in to GDL on Nov. 2. The flight data is gone. I had checked before, and it had been up for at least a month, and I assumed it was permanent. Not. And I see they keep changing the name of the form from FMME (electronic FMM) to FMMD (digital FMM). No matter, they are the same.
Omg I’m going to mex city tomorrow for 3 days and I hv no idea what this is and I’m freaking out
I already sail back from Mexico with my FMM doc I think they toked on my way to san diego ,how I get back the TIP number?
Hi Qroo, i am in a situation where i never downloaded my FMM within 60 days and never received a paper copy on arrival. Do you have information on the process to get a copy of my FMM? i am trying to start a company here in mexico and require it. Thankyou!
Im leaving for Mex Airport and im wondering about this.
Hey how you doing I have a question what do you do if you driving to Mexico and also finish the application but cannot print out the fmm form ?
What if I drive in Mexico from San Diego via TJ border and then go to Rosarito for example with our own car?
Is US passport good enough?
do you know if this online proces has to be done only by the US citizens, or do Europeans also need to do it online now? Can't we just go to the immigration desk when we land and fill it out there?
I cannot connect for some reason.
I am trying to log on to the URL but will not connect. Is there something I need to change. I use Chrome google.
Hola, from where in the portal once you have your account and passport registered do you access your file for land FMM?? I filled in everything first from the same website, dates entering and exit etc. Then it gives you a file number and says go to the portal to pay. I found you guys to help me through the creating my account and registering my passport but I am stuck now.
Do you need proof of return for going to México?
If my friend downloaded it for me, can I still register my own account and download it again? Thank you!
Hey, Paul, could you do a video on the facts regarding color photocopying Mexican government identification or documents. A few people have told me it is illegal.
A friend flies tomorrow to Mexico as tourist and he just knew today about the FMMD, he pre-registered but his flight is not around so he can't complete the process. He can enter to Mexico with only the passport? help : (
Any idea if the electronic version is being used at land ports of entry?
They are still on the old system, last I heard.
What if I am crossing through the border into Mexico? Do I just filled this out and go on about my business?
What is the meaning of Expedition Date?
Is this for nationalities?
Looks like the webpage is not working.
Wasn’t aware of having to do this before we arrived. Now we’re in Cancun and flight leaves tomorrow evening. Have been here for 2 days now. Unfortunately no flight is showing up for either one of us when I go to the Ingresos to download the FMMD. Do I just hope it shows up by tomorrow?
I'm in the same boat-what happened on your end?
Hello sir. I’m a citizen of Uzbekistan and I am currently planning to travel to Mexico. My question is as follows: I have a Japan Single Valid visa, can I enter Mexico with it? In addition, if I get an FMM, I will go to Mexico first and then to Japan. I hope my question will not go unanswered!
Have a good day
What if you drive over border?
Question… for nationality i am a American.. what do I put for this box? I only came here for 4 days I leave tomorrow!
Paul- do RP need to show a fmm paper or this new paperless ?
This is the new paperless. It is only if you need proof of the entry to apply for residency status etc.
Hi qroo, I am reading the financial requirements for the visas have just been increased in the last few days. Can you confirm? I am hearing temp is now approx $3275 / $54600, fast-track perm now $5460 / $218k. That's quite the leap ! With immigration clamping down on the FMM days given, I wonder if this is a deterrent to stop people living there on the FMM and doing 6 month border runs, instead forcing them into temp resi and generate some coffers for the govt ?
The standards used are based on the minumum wage -- although another standard called UMA can be used which is much lower. There is no uniformity among the consulate locations in regard to which standard is used, although most still use the minumum wage. The minimum wage increased 20% on January 1st. Our hopes are that more consulates will use the UMA standard as a result. Check out the consulate in Albuquerque, NM. they have the lowest limits. They use UMA.
I filled this form out only let me do the first-page logged back to do my family all my info was gone
Do you have a video on getting an INAPAM card? It appears it is now under a different ministry so offices, telephone numbers have changed. They say they want an FM3 for residentes temporales, and a naturalization letter, whatever that is.
Hi Ed. No, I don't have a video on that.FM2 and FM3 are old terms for the resident cards. The naturalization letter would only apply to those foreigners who obtained their citizenship.
The process for getting an INAPAM card varies in every city. Here in Mazatlán you get it at one of the DIF offices. I'd google it for your city and then start at the office you find listed. They'll likely point you in the right direction if they don't do it.
You did not show the printing of the FMM. I brought a downloaded FMM to the Immigration official at SJD (a couple years ago) and was quickly told that the form must be printed as a double sided document and two sheets (front and back) is not acceptable. I had to fill out the proper two sided form to enter the country. They did not mention the colors, but I presume that would be revealed on a subsequent trip.
Can you provide some insight?
We got our "no overcharge me" cards promptly, and hope we never need to use them! I will hand them out to needy travelers as we travel.
Thanks again for the always welcome videos.
Hi Timothy. The INM offices can be quite fickle about things and there is no consistency among them -- especially when it comes to things not addressed in the regulation, such as the correct way to present copies. With some printers, making a double-sided copy is going to result in a inky mess. I hate having to return to government offices so i would probably bring both options.
One thing that I often do is bring a laptop and a printer with me. They rejected a copy of a document one year when I was helping a friend register a car. We plugged the printer in and made another copy on the sidewalk....lol.
Thanks for grabbing some of the cards. Hopefully you never need them, but it is possible. If you read through the comments on that video, you will see people sharing how they were overcharged at certain restaurants. They name some names in there.
Any idea how this affects the CBX Tijuana-San Diego land bridge crossing? Last time I crossed back into the US they didn't ask for my FMM when leaving. Now I have my Mexican temporary residency & need to check in with INM before exiting Mexico. Does anyone have experience doing this at the CBX crossing?
Thank you!
Not directly, but this might help.
As a resident, we used to fill out the paper FMM "backwards" when flying out of Mexico -- they kept the bottom half, and we handed in the top halves when we returned. But it was purely for statistical purposes. If you lost your top half, it was no big deal deal -- you'd just fill out the top part on a new FMM. Now with it being electronic, you don't even do that. A friend flew out of CDMX under the old system, and tried to hand in her paper top half when she returned under the new system. They just tore up the paper top half and processed her electronically.
For land crossings, we used to try to do the same. It confused the hell out of the agents who weren't used to residents doing this. Finally an INM jefa in Ciudad Acuña flat-out told us not to do this -- just drive out of the country without stopping and upsetting her agents. She said they only wanted residents to do the FMM statistics dance when they were flying, not driving. And now it's all electronic if you're flying -- there's nothing to fill out.
Since CBX is a land crossing, you are not flying out of the country and I suspect the same would apply. You can check in with INM, but now that you're a resident AND this is a land crossing, they may not want you to fill out a "backwards" FMM.
I have visited Mexico in 2021 and there was still a paper version. Today I need this document for the immigration process. Do you know how i can get it for 2021?
It won't be in this system. You will probably have to contact INM directly.
It never works for me on desktop/laptop OR on the phone. I have an account, my passport is registered, but I can never generator the form. Always says it can't find my info. However, I've never needed it leaving. They just shrug and stamp my passport.

Paul, any word on Baja border officials granting the full 180 days routinely again? Hope so. My sister is planning to give birth in Baja; she and her husband plan to enter on a tourist visa in January and stay for about four months. Time to get the baby’s Mexican birth certificate, then apply for the baby’s Mexican passport, then apply for their own Permanent Residence. They’re taking the bus from San Diego to Tijuana. Any advice we can give them? THANK YOU :)
Hi Paul, thanks for sharing this video. Question: You are a US former law enforcement officer, what made you decide to move to Mexico if you don't mind me asking sir?
The biggest reason was financial. We could live much better than we could in the U.S. on the same amount of money. When I retired, my wife was not eligible to retire so we ended up living on 1/3 of what we were making before. That amount of money allowed us to live quite well in Mexico. We lived inside a resort complex, spent our days on a Caribbean beach, traveled etc. If we had stayed in the U.S., we would have been clipping coupons and staying home all the time.
@@qroo I understand and thanks for replying back. I am considering moving out there as well in the near future due to financial reasons because it's getting too expensive to live in the US. Do you have any recommendations of affordable good areas to live in Merida, Mexico as a single man? I prefer gated communities but I'm open to other communities if the neighborhood is kind of safe.
Paul, this was very helpful since I filled out the form a couple hours ago following the exact steps you showed except there was no info listed under "Ingresos" or "FMMD". Now I know that I have to enter the country first before I can download it. I also paid and printed my receipt, it was $687 MX. Filled this out after I arrived in Puerto Vallarta three weeks ago and still no flight information online. I was advised by Immigration if I am travelling through out Mexico I should print a FMM. Is my problem because I fill out the portal after I arrived?
No, it should still show in the system. I just signed up for the portal to make this video and my last entry into Mexico was in there. Sometimes the flight information will not show if something was entered incorrectly by INM upon your arrival. This happened to a friend of Mark, the guy who assisted with the video. A 0 (zero) had been entered as an O. It took hours at immigration for them to locate the figure out the problem.
I just completed the application. However, it's been over 4days, my flight information is not added yet. Also, I don't get it how will they find out the flight info when they did not ask anything about the flight throughout this application. My flight is in a week. I have not been to Mexico since my family moved back to the DC area in 1956. I have a copy of my Mexican birth certificate. Do I need any additional documentation to stay here in Mexico? I might want to buy a house and stay.
You are a Mexican citizen from birth. You should get your Mexican passport and INE card.
@@JamesSmith-qv9qo recently I applied for a Mexican passport at the Mexican consulate in NC and I was denied, as my birth certificate lists two last names, all my US ID’s list only one last name. I believe there is a path for me after I move to Mexico, rent a home, then obtain a drivers permit using my double last names. With proper Mexican ID I believe I can then apply & obtain a passport. If the ORANGE IDIOT manages to be elected president, I’ll be racing for the border 😱
Hey Paul if we are going to Queretaro to finish the temp residency visa would we use this?

@@qroo Thanks Paul. Are they still handing those out on the plane?
Hey qroo paul; I just found your channel about 2 weeks ago and have been watching old clips trying to catch up. BUT I get lost at times. So maybe you can tell me straight out. Have you and Linda spent any/much time on the Pacific side of the country? Either on the beach or fairly near it. And if so, how would you compare it to the Caribean side?? I am am OLD man who has been once to Baja Cal. and once to Cancun. Both were resort experiences and what I am contemplating is a long time living situation. Any insights would be very much appreciated. By the by, - - - I started watching - listening to your Spanish tutorials. I thought they were well founded for someone like me, who has been away from the lingo for 50+ years. Thank you once more for any knowledge you can share.
Hi Ray. We have traveled to the west side of Mexico several times. It's nice but we prefer the warm water and cool sand of the Caribbean side. It is also closer to Florida where we have family obligations. We lived for 6+ years in the Riviera Maya but we sold our place last year. Now we are actually leaning more toward living inland in Queretaro. The problem again being those family obligations in the States.
I recommend coming down and spending a couple of weeks here and there at boutique hotels or AirBnb. That way you can get more of a feel for what it would be like to live there more permanently.
Do permanent residents need to do this when flying back into México from another country?
No, this is is only for people who need a printed copy to complete their residency process or for another purpose, like renewing their TIP.

As far as the arrival flight showing up, when you want to download the FMM is there something the applicant has to do to inform the system of the flight? Nothing is showing up for us so far.
It won't show until you actually arrive. Once you do, it may take day or so to appear in the system. If it still does not show, there is an issue with the system itself. Perhaps the way it was entered by INM (e.g. 0 instead of O).

You do need one, but as Qroo Paul loves to say, "México is consistently inconsistent." Whether you're going to be verified at any checkpoint or be asked for it is a roll of the dice. It's better to have it and not need it than the reverse.
Wait, I am confused. You mentioned residency card holders. Was that for Temporary status people. Do people with Permanente status still need an FMM? I would not have thought so!
When you leave under the paperless system -- for example leaving Cancun -- you will still check in at INM prior to flying out. You wont have an FMM to give them when flying into those airports. This is just for people who enter paperless but need a printed FMM for some reason. It could be to renew a TIP or complete residency.
@@qroo But do Permanentes need an FMM at all? I thought not...?
@@bloesgen They want to track RT and RP comings and goings for statistical purposes, just like the old paper FMMs that all residents used to fill out. Whether you want to call these statistical bits of info in their computer an "FMM" or not is a theoretical question. In practice, there are no more FMMs for residents leaving Mexico. And none within Mexico either.
Hi Paul. I'm trying to create a INM account but the US is not listed. The US country code is not listed either. I'm entering the country through the CBX (Cross Bridge in CA into Tijuana Airport). I must be doing something wrong. Any help would be much appreciated. Thanks!
Did you look under estados unidos?
I did look under estados unidos and all that came up was THE FOLLOWING:
DE LAS ISLAS ULTRAMARINAS DE ESTADOS UNIDOS
DE LOS ESTADOS FEDERADOS DE MICRONESIA
ESTADOUNIDENSE (ISLAS VÍRGENES DE ESTADOS UNIDOS)@@qroo
It's unclear to me if the printed out copy shows the number of days a visitor is allowed? Or is just one the passport? Is it easy to read on the passport? Most of the stamps on my visa are about half missing!
The printed copy does show the number of days you are given. It has all of the information the paper FMM has.
@@qroo Not strictly true, Paul. On the paper FMM you would put down the address where you were staying. On the digital version, the Domicilio en Mexico field says SIN DATA. Since a CFE comprobante is not needed at INM (at least in Morelia), they pick up the Domicilio from whatever you enter when filling out the online CANJE tramite prior to going to INM.
Hi, I have a question . I am flying to cancun this 3rd March. How many days before i have to get this digital FMM form. Can you tell me please
If you are entering as a tourist for a vacation, you wont need to do this. You just fly in and they scan your passport. You arent required to print this.
@@qroo Actually i am in lithuania right now as a student but my nationality is Indian . I have multiple entry schengen visa. Then also i have to fill FMM form ? Can you help me in this information please.
@@qroo I am flying from Lithuania> Germany> Cancun. So that's why i was asking that do i also need it ?
A basic question about uploading a pic of my passport: the system will not accept any image I upload and doesn't say why. I am taking photos with my iPhone, so I'll go to the copy shop and get a jpg of it from a copier and see if that works. Very frustrating. Any advice? Thank you!
The picture aspect of that program often gives people trouble. On a PC, I had to change the browser I was using but I am not sure what to do on Apple products. Sorry.
@@qroo Thanks, I'll try that. :)
@@josefinaDandelion You should only shoot the bottom half of the passport page. Then, after uploading, stretch the blue outline box in the window to cover just the page. It's finicky, but stretching the box is essential to getting it to work.
a question; we need to do this when we are entering to Mexico , right ? how about when we are going out of mexico while we are a resident in Mexico. ? thanks a lot Paul
As a resident, you still check in at immigration at the airport before going to check in with the airline. INM stamped our passports when we were leaving.
@@qroo and how about returning back to Mexico ? as a resident , we need to fill the online FMM like the others ? thanks for the answers Paul.
@@japoncae7211 No. That's the point -- it's all electronic. No forms to fill out if you're a resident.
It means for permanent resident it's this registration useless? We will not take any advantage, correct? I already registered before reading all these comments. Do I just forget and use it, or need to close the account. Thanks for all advices.
When entering Mexico to do your Canje, don’t you need the printed FMM to have them mark canje on it with the 30 days when you are at the immigration desk? Can you just get a blank form when you get off the plane and write in the information?
If you are entering through an airport that is using the new system, they will not give you a hardcopy of an FMM. You will have to follow the steps in this video to print one after entering. It really depends where you enter. Land crossings and some airports are still using the old FMM.
Thanks for your quick response. Love your channel, btw, very helpful and enjoyable!
I’m still a little confused, though, don’t we need the FMM at immigration? Can I print it ahead of time before we go to the airport? We have the impression that we need it in our hands when we get there so they can mark it canje with the 30 days. I can’t imagine trying to print it at the airport. Or can you do it from the kiosk maybe? We appreciate any advice you have.
Wish we were there now! Thanks again!
@@teresaw5362 Stop. Listen to Paul. There is NO paper FMM that you fill out if you're flying in. That is the whole point of this video. You are processed electronically at the airport. You do not walk out of the airport with an FMM in hand. Just your passport. Then wherever you are staying, you follow the steps in the video to download the digital FMM as a PDF file, and then get it printed somewhere before going to immigration to do the CANJE process.
The advice to create an account before you fly is because it may be easier to do the passport photo upload at your home than in a hotel room or an AirBnB. But that step of doing in advance isn't a requirement.
Hope that help. Everything in Mexican bureaucracy appears to be confusing, especially to marginal Spanish speakers. That's the beauty of Paul's channel -- he's sorted through all the obscure and almost-conflicting language and provides clear information about the steps needed.
@@markemmer4371 Thanks for your input. I get what you are saying. What you added does make sense. We have been preparing for getting residency for quite a while and everyone has stressed that you absolutely must have the FMM marked as Canje by immigration at the airport, even in those places that are not using FMM for tourists. That was why we are concerned about having it in hand. The confusion of Mexican bureaucracy has us stressed and paranoid. We are hoping to obtain residency soon even though we will not be living there permanently for another year or two, so all this has to be completed on scheduled “vacations”. Once we are there, we will have only about a month or so, so we don’t want to have any snafus! Thanks again for reaching out!
@@teresaw5362 I get it about stress doing a new procedure. Been there, done that, lost sleep over it. We got our residency just as the system shifted from FM2/FM3 to RT and RP, yet all the online information was written for FM2/3. Twelve years later, there are still state government sites that refer to the long gone FM2/3. For years we've drilled into people to get CANJE checked on their paper FMM, and now the paper is gone. Tonight I learned that our car's yearly windshield decal has been replaced with a digital decal that we will download to our phone to show police if we're stopped. México is going digital to streamline operations, reduce corruption, and avoid long lines, so we have to roll with the changes. Three points:
1. Keep your CANJE eyes on, only look for it to be handwritten on a stamp that is applied on the visa pages of your passport. It will also say 30 days.
2. When you do finally download and print your digital FMMD, it may have the REPOSICIÓN box checked, rather than CANJE. There's a bug in their programming, and immigration wasn't concerned when we brought it in that way, because the Visa stamp said CANJE.
3. Expecting to do the CANJE in a one month visit can be dicey, depending on the office and the crush of people there. In Michoacán, I've taken friends to INM at 9:30 am and walked out with two residency cards before 11 am. They didn't even have to make a trip to the bank to pay the fees; there's now a credit card machine at INM to make the payment. OTOH, acquittances in Nayarit had to pay a facilitator to get into the INM office in Bucerias in November. The fixer and her daughter got there at 5 a.m. to wait in line for the 50 tickets they handed out at 9 a.m. to get them in. After processing, the office said the printer that produces the card was broken. It remained broken for several weeks, and they had to postpone their departure. Once you start the CANJE process at INM, you CANNOT leave the country until you get the card (unless you apply for permission to leave, a process that required yet another trip to INM, another payment to have someone stand in line, etc.). That's the exception. But if you're going to a heavily-touristed area with a very heavy INM workload, things may not proceed on your schedule. Sometimes it can be as frustrating as the head of the office who signs the card is out that day, and you have to come back another time to pick it up.
Comfort yourself with the knowledge that hundreds of thousands of others have done this before you. You'll get it done.
Hi
We are flying from Canadá to Cancun in 3 days
We are temporary residents
Do we still fill out the form that we received it 3 months ago when we left Mexico
Or we don’t need any forms at all?
Thanks in advance
Cancun is paperless now. Wgen you fly out, you hust have to check in at INM before going to the ticket counter.
@@qroo hey Paul good work as always! It's interesting because my husband and I are both temporary residents and when we were leaving the airport in Puerto Vallarta we checked into INM and they told us that we no longer had to do that. Just to go and check in our luggage and we were on our way. Wouldn't it be nice if it was the same everywhere in the country!
If we don't need a printed copy of our FMMD do we need to any of this?
No.
Thanks
We've been struggling with the online site since entering CDMX 2 days ago.
One more question:
Our passports were not stamped by anyone. We were just given a small piece of paper with a stamp and QR code...nothing about our allotted number of days?
Hi Paul, it’s been 48 hours and the flight portion hasn’t appeared on my portal yet. Is this normal? Or operator error?
It may have been entered incorrectly. They confuse o with 0 quite often.
@@qroo, gotcha my wife and I are having the same issue! We’re here , both took a picture of our passports but haven’t seen anything. We can try deleting the original and resubmitting.
@@qroo I removed and re-entered my passport information and am still not seeing my flight on the ingresos portion. To your knowledge, is this something INM will help with at the airport ahead of our flight?
i did all these steps and I dont see my flight info to get the fmm to leave mexico. it says i cant leave mexico without the form. i leave tomorrow. what should i do? help!!
If you came as a tourist, you don't need thos to leave. This is for people who need a form for other immigration purposes. If you flew into an airport with no FMM forms, all you have to do is show your passport to leave.
