I’ve been able to manage to get a jack handle under the spring perch and jack the strut up, does get bit sketchy but you can just manage to get it back into the hub. Top job tho mate 🫡
Instrument cluster issues are a pain. i used to have a 2009 ford focus zetec S with the 1.8TDCI engine. 3 days after id bought it the car was dead, couldnt crank it at all. i knew though that a common fault is for the solder points on the back of the cluster tend to break and cause non-starting or intermittent cluster issues. so yeah ive kinda been there myself with a similar thing. if the code says cluster it almost certainly is in the cluster because codes point techniciations in the right direction. if it was fuel sender it would be a code for the fuel sender. i think you already know that though and of course you already know the known wiring issue so it all fits. good luck with it as always, glad your getting there with the van too
As everyone is saying whom ever fitted those rear springs they put the adjuster on wrong and there should be a rubber mount for the spring, that sits on the bottom, thats why it was banging. And then you went and fitted a new spring with out the rubber mount, that'll will eventually do the same thing.
so refreshing to see a "real world" youtuber. im glad its not just me who comes across the type of dissasters as yourself. then watch most youtube channels and the drivehaft simply falls out, the shock bottom mount seems as if its been swim ming in the finest lubrication etc....meanwhile,....im looking for the biggest f-off hammer i can find and inventing new swear words. keep it up.
As previous comments suggest. And for anybody using this video to lower their van. Lift both wheels off the ground and it’s a 20 minute job. Adjuster was supposed to be on the top (both for the back)
Fair play for showing it as it is, and all the parts that didn't go to plan, but at least you got there in the end 👏👍👌 Bit of a pain no fuel gauge. I'm looking forward to the next part 😉
As soon as i started watching this i was hoping you would do the front first. Horrible job to do. Compressing the front springs with a pair of them dodgy spring clamps may have helped slightly rather than dropping the hub off. Suprising how much weight you have to move around. Full respect for doing it on the deck though
Maybe contact total tronics see if this is something he can replace he does vag clusters, fixed all the dead leds/ broken solder joints in my cluster but he fixes other stuff too
It’s not them wires that do the damage. It’s from behind the front bumper there’s a wire that runs the passenger headlight well it’s that long wire the plugs are the same each side. To avoid this issue look inside the plug and match up the pin location it’s 1male pin difference and there lies the issue with the cluster
First of all, how the hell did that droplink bolt come off on the first go, that never happens😂. The worst thing I ever did was start messing about with the suspension on my T5. I put cheap coilovers on, looked awesome but horrible to drive. Whipped them off and bought lowering springs with standard shocks and it was so much better. Eventually I needed new shocks all round, so I decided to spend over 1k on B14coilovers from Bilstein. Apparently expensive coilovers are supposed to be so much better. 12 months in and I hate them. I now looking at changing for a 4th time. I’ve subscribed to the channel mate, looking forward to seeing what you do to the van. If you want to return the favour, I would appreciate it 😂
Mate I remember doing this on my drive on my own and it's a right old ball ache, these lucky buggers with their ramps! 27:07 You put it up on the jack then wiggle f*ck out of it.... Could just see it coming off the axel stands hahaha keep going lad
Fair play to you getting this done without a ramp I struggled with the front shocks on my own van using the ramp With the ball joints use a screw driver through the ball joint hole into the hub hole and over it until that side lines up put the bolt in then do the other bolt makes it much easier. Any more knocks you get on the front will 100% be the drop links. Amazed you got them undone as well I normally cut them off as I have had to work in that area a couple Of times and they are not easy.
When you say tapping threads. Im sure you did what i did other day. Removed shaft on my 1.9 tdi to change cv outta boot. To stop the shaft spinning and to tighten up the shaft inner cv joint spline bolts i put a screw driver in the wheel bearing bolt hole to jam against the knuckle allowing me to re assble. Only to find 1 wheel nut wouldnt tighten with wheel on. So many hours later and a replaced wheel bearing my press tool snapped and ive realised ive bust the wheel sensor pickup becos i didnt remove it when a attempt was made to press new 1.on zzzzzz f'n vag S
Have seen you at Donington. You ware filming car in the pit lane right at front of me and then you ware on the pit wall. I was with one of 116Trophy teams so no time to have a chat - maybe next time.
Try Holy here uk.weareholy.com/itsleelockwood and use codes: LEE5 for £5 discount on your first order (min. spend £14.99) and LEE for 10% off
Adjuster goes to the top on a Transporter and there should be a rubber bush that the spring sits on when on arm
I came here to say the same
Top tip, always undo the top mount first, before you even jack it up. They always come undone nice and easy with the weight on the strut
Thank for showing the video of me repairing the cluster, if you need any help let me know.
Was just about to link your channel.
Cheers mate,are you a subscriber??
Also me and DTE tv both put out a similar video so not sure where Lee got the footage from??
I am subbed, love your case studies the best.
@@rmsdiagnostics that would be awesome!
Just give me a shout, you can post them or drive down, where you based?

If you want the front lower do a hub mod 57mm hole saw and relocate the brake pipe bracket 😉

Those strut in hub set ups are absolute arse been in that situation before, well done on getting it there.
Glad to see you're back! No uploads for weeks. Hope all is well!
Lee you can buy a 1/2 drive socket to open the gap on the strut just put it in the gap and turn 90 degrees😅😅

Great vid
Great video Lee , good to see you back 👍👍
when’s the off-roading video
Thanks for the video Lee. Properly cracked me up. The joys of working on cars 😂
Yes!! He's back
Yaaaay, good to see you back on the channel mate! Nothings ever simple when you tackle the simple jobs is it 😂
Ayyyy it’s DTE TV !
😂😂😂😂
I nearly commented about that RMS video when you were talking about the fuel gauge 😂
Day off today, Lee Lockwood’s posted a new video, it’s 37 minutes long AND he’s working outside! What a day 🙌🏻😂
Glad your back big fella . I needed a good laff and as usual you didn't disappoint. Top vid 😁👍
The rears are easy to fit if you have both sides off the ground and unbolt the anti roll bar
Eibach springs are sick man 👌🏻quality ride 😜
Sweet, I actually want this been checking it daily on marketplace, see the robin went straight away trying to save up some pennies 😊
get it bought!
@@itsleelockwooddid you sell the 3 wheeler
Rear adjuster goes on the top rubber mount goes on the bottom.
There should be a rubber cup that locates on the rear arms that the spring sits in
Yeah I noticed that missing too
You should’ve compressed the spring and clamped with Jubilee clips prior to fitting and then release once fitted
Top mount top mount top mount top mount oh yeah top mount!!!!!
The adjuster on the rear coilovers should have been on the top, its a thing on transporters

Loving the transporter series mate want to do a t5 build myself love vw as annoying as they are lol
ooooooooo only 7000 to go 😂
This is peak Lee Lockwood content
Putting the front struts back in would go much easier with a bit of grease.. come on Lee.. basics 😂
Never go in dry 😅
@@michaln5540 I had a SHIT tonne of lube spray on the thing 😂

Use axle stands - don't rely on a trolley jack
That rear adjuster should have been at the top of the
Knocking on the back because the rear adjusters should be at the top
Yesssssssssssssss Lee how are you hope your doing well 😊
Brilliant video lee

Jeeez Lee where you been!?🤣🤣
I cant believe its bene 3 weeks haha!
Hi Bro, I love your videos, would you be willing to make a review video about car audio or AI smart box?
You shouldn't have to do that should of put the shok In the hub hole first then push it up to the top
Why didn’t you try putting the strut in then push the hub down to get in under the arch then up into place ?
Won’t fit, not enough room
I was thinking of doing mine but f@ck that ,pmsl 🤣 😂
Top mount
I was wondering where you was
Another Great Content ever 👌
Fuel level sensors in the tank and got to drop the tank to get at jt but you've probably already realised that 😉
What is he missing off the top of the suspension ?😂
love the video once i was settled lol
dte tv i watch him too
Finally 😂
1 view in 48 seconds, bros fell off
Took him 48 seconds to have 1 more viewer than you’ve had in a lifetime…
Somebody can’t take jokes 🫡
Been off grid for 6 months 😂😂 gotta get big yeah buddy
37 minute video and all you done was change some shock absorbers 🫤
Better than his usual habit of selling and buying another car! Haha!
