Starting out hockey for the first time.
I’m 32 and learning to skate. Zero to hero in a year is the goal and your videos are helping !
How’s it going dude?
@@xkukubax not bad so far! I’ve had about 4/5 lessons since December I can stop and glide comfortably and go backwards to an extent :) being in the army I have limited time
Still skating ?
@@kodi4719 trying lol
How's the zero to hero going?
As a cyclist and a hockey player, I use handlebar tape for the shaft of my sticks. Handlebar tape has a sticky line down the middle of the backside, so it will stay put on the shaft. Bar tape stays looking nice longer than hockey tape, and will not tear up your gloves. Lizard Skins is a favorite for my sticks, as it is thin. It has a grippy, rubbery feel. Lizard Skins markets tape specifically for hockey, but the Handlebar tape is cheaper.
Great Video!
That Tennis grip was such a game changer for me.
Nice tutorial. The other nice thing about smooth tennis racquet grips like you show is that your gloves will last much longer that they will with cloth tape on the grip.
Use a wider tape for a better (easier, more durable) wrap around the toe. Howie's tape is a strong tape that comes in two widths and don't forget to use a good layer of wax .. adds better grip and durability to the tape job.
same
i just turned 17 in november and im just now trying to get into hockey now that i dont have to rely on my parents for transport. I know im going to have a steep learning curve but ive always enjoyed messing around on the ice and on the deck when my dad played. So i figured why not play.
Amazing feeling
I found the Agent in the trash can at my local rink 😂😂😂
Broken?
Facts, I used it once while practicing, went right back to the ft5 pro
I twist white tape for a string underneath the tape like this as well. For the bottom hand, candy cane it with white tape for about a foot and half. Then wax the bell out of it. Good to go
Tennis tape looks pretty clean.
yeah until you use it twice and it turns brown
I always find it interesting to see how every one tapes their stick and how different everyone is. For me personally I have never liked the ribbed feel. I basically put 5 wraps on the top (super small knob) then just continue that down about 6 inches and that's it. super thin, barely any knob. I've also never understood the point of taping the toe, other than looks.
Ahh my old club.
My dad was the first ever captain and scored the first goal for the raiders.
Do you prefer dry or tacky tennis overgrip for hockey? Why?
How long does the tennis grip last, approximately? That you need to replace it?
Tennis grip feels good. Imo better than lizard skins but they wear out fast. Lizard skins usually last the life of my stick or maybe need to redo once. But tennis grips last maybe 5-6 ice times before showing pretty good wear.
Never would have thought to not use hockey grip or hockey tape. What was the thing called he put on the butt end of his stick, again?
Can the tennis grip be found in Canada?
Do you think it preserves your palm from wear versus stick tape?
can you do what is in the bag video because he said that his favorite stick isn’t the seven pro
They best way is to add a little knob with knob tape and that's it. Sticks have real tacky grip nowadays, so adding anything else is a waste. The feel is so much better too.
do you have the tacks x helmet
How about using the RocketGrip rubber ones?
Would you guys be able to do a review on the ButtEndz grips? And possibly the blade grips available out there? Rezztek, ButtEndz etc
Great idea. The reality is more people play tennis so the grips are cheaper and easier to find.
i let the griptak thru the tape for max grip
There is no best way to tape a stick, the best way is what you prefer, for me if I do the texture with the spun up tape I get blisters easier and it creates pressure spots that start hurting.
Personally I do 3 layers of narrow electrical tape like 1cm wide, then 3 layers of howies pro grip tape and then the knob is 15 layers of white hockey tape.
Everyone I know just uses hockey tape as opposed to tennis grip. Strangest thing ever, I might give it a try! Maybe it will save my gloves.
I’ve made the transition to tennis grips few years ago. It definitely saved my gloves’ palms! However, some grips don’t have an adhesive back (overgrip). If you purchase overgrip, I use double sided tape as a baselayer to make sure it doesn’t come off.
Unusual to tape from the toe to the heal. Also carry an old hockey puck and burnish the tape. Watch Marc Savard an ex Bruin tape sticks ua-cam.com/video/WvoTHDxUyEI/v-deo.html He has some kind of OCD thing about taping sticks. He often taped his teammates sticks.
I've been using tennis grip forever.
that tennis tape looks like lizard skin used in hockey
Just get lizard, skins for grips tape
5-7 wraps of regular tape on the end and that's it on a grip stick.
10 months late but my favorite part is how Tommy is giving the finger the whole time taping the buttend.
I always wondered why hockey players don’t use tennis tape more often.
Because although it feels really good, durability is bad. Lasts maybe 5-6 ice times before the butt end really wears bad
toe to heal, yeah!
This is one of the dustiest tape jobs I've ever seen
And this is how i tape my stick - rum dum dum dum dum dum
😂
This is such a dusty TJ. Like top to bottom haha.
Woah first?
Toe to heel. Eww. Amirite?
So gross…🤢

It's the UK everything is different
The bottom of the stick that contacts the ice has the most amount of wear on it. You can mitigate this by putting a layer of tape along the bottom of the blade (similar to how the firat bit was put on the toe) and the wrapping it to have a 2nd layer of defense. I typical tape black or bold color under and white over so that once the white tape wears through I can see nd replace it before the ice damages the blade. Also for the love of all things that is hockey, tape yourstick from heel to toe.
Yes Ewww. Always heel to toe
Cringe.
