This is so sad. I was a big fan and when they came to Seattle with "life on display" I was able to sneak in through the back door of the club a couple of hours before the show. I was just sitting down in an area with other people talking and the band came in and Wes said Hello to me and I got up and introduced myself and shook his hand. We talked for a while and I ask him if he would get me a back stage pass. He pointed at my lanyard with about 20 other back stage passes on it and said "you're already in" I told him that I had snuck in and if I had a pass they couldn't harass me. He laughed and told me how he used to sneak into shows too. Then he says "wait here for a minute, I;ll be right back". I thought that was over but 5 minutes later he walks back over to me and hands me 3 back stage passes. Then he signed one for me. He was the nicest musician I had ever met (because a lot of them are Dicks) He was great, the show was awesome cause I was on stage for the whole show not 10 feet from all of them up there and it was cool to watch from that angle, seeing their fans from the stage. I actually found his tour manager (I was already familiar with the venue, the moore theater which has a really funky underground with lots of rooms scattered about) and talked with him during the opening bands show. We knew a lot of the same people because I grew up in L.A. and he was living in Silver Lake ( a part of L.A.) he gave me a poster of the band and I got all the guys to sign it before I left that night. It was one of the best shows I'd ever been to. And Wes was a doll. Funny, cute and cool as hell. When I see all the trouble he gets into it breaks my heart. He always seems to be high or drunk and fighting with a neighbor, drunk driving or other stupid shit that he should have grown out of by now. All his original band members have moved on. And he has a son that's around 20 now and that's heartbreaking for a kid. He also lost his house in foreclosure and got arrested breaking into it. Wes Wes Wes, you have so much talent, you're so real and kind and foxy as hell. We need to find someone to take you under their wing and help you clean up. Maybe Dr. Drew could help you. Or Bob Forrester. Would someone in L.A. please step forward and try to help your friend before he winds up dead? Come on! Who is willing to take one for the team? I would seriously go down there and find his ass (which wouldn't be that hard because he's on the news all the time acting a fool.) if I had the money and the time. Also not actually knowing him might be a problem too. But I do know plenty of people in the music biz who would know where to find him, The other part is him wanting to get better. Wes. your true fans love you and want you to get your shit together before it's too late! Do it for your son! And do it for those of us that would love to see you "get clean" and start rocking again! All these people commenting negative things about the band not helping him, don't have a clue of how things work on stage. It is NOT the band's job to look after him, It's Wes' job to look after himself. It's Wes' responsibility to stay sober and perform on stage, specially him who is the frontman. Wes never really passed out, he kept babbling throughout the entire song so that showed the band members that he was fine. Also, the band's job is to cover his stupid and irresponsible behavior by improvising or covering his part. It's easy for you (youtube audience) to critique the band members when you haven't spent a single cent to attend this concert, expecting to be entertained and to have the time of your life. If he couldn't sing one single song, he clearly wasn't able to sing an entire repertoire. That translates to a cancelled show - You understand that, right?
