- Emily is the resident science expert on The Alan Titchmarsh Show on Tuesday afternoons at 3pm on ITV. Here she explains how household cleaning products work, and discusses with Kim Woodburn (from 'How Clean is Your House') some non-toxic alternatives... such as vinegar, baking soda and rice!

I love the show! How Clean Is Your House had real homes with a buttload of dirt, grime, and clutter. When they were finished cleaning them, any person could see that even a crummy apartment or run-down home seemed much more pleasant when cleaned and that it did not take scads of money to do it! And I do not know what it is, but even when times are tight or hard, having a clean home removes a great deal of the heft of the problems you are facing. Thank you, Aggie & Kim for inspiring us all!

I appreciate the tips for creating cheaper and less dangerous cleaning products but hydrochloric acid is not unnatural. Chemicals are chemicals, even water is a chemical! There is so much unnecessary fear-mongering going on here. I myself use vinegar, borax, baking soda etc but I don't begrudge people who use a little limescale remover or carpet cleaner. Anything can be toxic in the right quantities. We should keep that in mind.

She addresses everything to the studio audience, not to the public its not supposed to be that way. Talking over the host's head is actually more rude. Maybe they don't like each other.
