The "must haves" every year on Wandsbeker Winterzauber in Hamburg are an oven Garlic-Baguette (attention: Better do not go among people afterwards!), a portion Schmalzkuchen with powdered sugar and fruits in chocolate-glaze on a stick (my favourites are bananas or grapes).
I eat krakauer with mustard on a bun, mushrooms, White chocolate strawberry and I drink Eierpunch. Since corona I learned how to make Eierpunch. Love that over Gluhwhein....
This makes me so excited! I’m going to Nuremberg in a few weeks time. I grew up in Germany and haven’t been back since. Nothing beats Christmas in Germany! X
Don't forget to get some Nuremberger Bratwurst and Glüwein. I lived in Germany for many years, have not been back for a few years. Sure miss the Christmas Market there.
Als Schwabe graust es mich, Kässpätzle mit amerikanischen Mac and Cheese zu vergleichen. Die Kässpätzle von den Weihnachtsmärkten kann man ja nicht mal mit den Originalen im Schwabenland vergleichen.
You two are so lovely, I enjoy your videos a lot. I grew up in a German family in South Western Wisconsin, it was Brats and all Wursts, Boiled Cabbage Dinner, Liver wurst, Sauerbraten, Roulading (stupid spell check), Spätzle and brown gravy, Pork and Veal Weiner Schnitzel, Pretzels, All of the German Rye breads, Potato pancakes, etc...and my Dad's Apple Strudel...SMH, so great!!! And yes, German Glühwein in the winter. Thank you Guys, please keep posting, and if I spelled anything wrong Phil, I'm three generations away from the homeland, please forgive me...
Same here but California and first generation mom and dad from the homelands of Germany and Austria, mom was the best cook! Bratwurst, sauerkraut, red cabbage which I miss soooo much!, My mom made the best gravys and soups, fantastic german baking, oh so good! Miss you mom and dad! I love you!❤

As a Hungarian person, seeing lángos on offer at German Christmas markets still feels weird. Back at home, lángos, which is quite similar to Native American frybread, is always eaten on the beach, in summer, whenever you feel hungry after swimming; never in the winter cold.
It's not just on Christmas markes in Germany, my town for example has a wine fest in August, and you can get langos there too. Crepes bratwurst and langos or flammkuchen or pizza is something you pretty much always find at any type of outdoor market, festival etc.
There is a Langos booth at pretty much every medium to larger sized fest in Germany all around the year. I guess it also might come in handy that they can sell it at home in the summer and in Germany in the winter. Maybe that is what some do?
In the Army after VietNam did my rehab in Nuremberg, Stayed for a year and a few months. Loved, loved Germany. Did go to the Christmas market, it was magical. This video reminds me of the good times and the good people. Thanks.
I love German Christmas markets! The food, the mood, the amazing handcrafted Christmas decorations! I have this lovely nutcracker and wooden tree decorations, hand painted. I bought them 18 years ago, and I treasure them very much, they are unique

If you like to have some more medieval feeling, you might try to keep the "Mittelalterstadtfest" in Bad Langensalza (Thuringia) in mind, which takes place the second half of August towards the end of the month. It uses the whole inner part of the town with it's amazing medieval center. And there are REAL original Thüringer Bratwürste all over ;-)
Not in Gemany, but kinda related, since last weekend, until the 26 of December,in Verona (Italy) there are the Nuremberg christmas Markets (i think they are called like that because the two cities have some relationship on this),not as big as German ones, but nice to see if you visit the city in the holiday season

Mom made Dampfnudel and it was my all time favorite. She made it with raisins and steamed in melted butter and sugar . Then poured on a vanilla pudding sauce. Can't get it in Ohio. Probably a good thing.
Went to a Christmas Market in Heidelberg over 30 years ago while visiting a friend stationed there, had some gluhwein and other treats and it made a strong impression upon me and I have always remembered it fondly. Nothing remotely like it here in the U.S. for all the big deal that's made about Christmas.
Die Dampfnudel (aka Hefekloß) gehört in Soße gebadet (persönlich bevorzugt: (Apfel-)Weinschaumsoße)! We could see (or rather not see) Deana getting drowsy from the alcohol… was it acclimation or restraint? 😄
This brings back many happy memories of the 5 weeks we spent in Germany with our daughter-son in law and 3 grandchildren. We went to a small village market, one in Minden and then Hannover. It has been 7 years since that trip.
In the southwest, Krautschupfnudeln are essential to every stand. It's unthinkable to have a christmas market without Krautschupfnudeln and a Rote Wurst
Thanks guys, I watched this video right after dinner and the moment I saw those lovely sausages on the Schwenker Grill I got hungry again. The rest of the video made that feeling even worse. As far as sausages are concerned, the Krakauer is the one I prefer, but let's be honest, all different sausages are very tasty. Thank you for posting!
Hello Deana and Phil, I'm in Germany right now with my husband on his business trip. We visited Stuggart last week and now we're in Mannheim. Brilliant! You guys! What is the names of the markets you liked? Also, I'm a wheelchair user, will I manage okay do you think? My wife and I are going to Berlin in December 😀
The grilled champignons with the garlic sauce are the best. Or there is also something they call "Brötchen Nackensteak" (don't know the english word for that).
Going to Christmas markets in Germany/Austria/Alsace is #1 on my travel wish list! I have some great bottled glühwein I brought home from Sweden and a raclette cooking appliance, both great for a fun holiday party! But I want to go to a bunch of these markets for 7-10 days, trying out all the other options! Thanks for doing this video, I'm instantly in the Christmas frame of mind! 🎄☕
Oh the memories!! We were stationed in Germany for 10 years and this was our favourite time of the year. Aside from the food and drink, we used to pick up some lovely Christmas presents for the family back home in the UK.
Merry Christmas for all. I spent 2 years in Gelnhausen. 84-86 and actually did training in West Berlin and also went thru Check Point Charlie into East Berlin. Happy to see the country re-united! I recommend a visit to Gelnhausen for anyone.
I lived in Landstuhl and the Christmas market was pretty small but there was always a vendor with shrimp wrapped in shredded potato and then deep fried. Delicious!!! And, of course, Gluwein!!!
Your video always tell me a lot of things about Germany with studying English 😂 I moved to Düsseldorf from Japan in last October. You tell me good spots in the city❤
Der Weihnachtsmarkt in Göttingen ist schon ok, der in Goslar ist romantischer. Bei uns heißen Reibekuchen Puffer. Und dazu gibt es Appelmus. The Christmas market in Göttingen is OK, but the one in Goslar is more romantic. At home, we call them "Reibekuchen Puffer" (potato pancakes). And we have appelmus with them
At the Bavarian christmas markets you can find a dampfnudel.....a big bun of steamed sweet dough with vanilla sauce and cherries on top. I love it. Edit: i just finished the Video and.....THAT WAS NOT A DAMPFNUDEL!!! dont know what it was but definitely not a dampfnudel.
Love it, every year I visit a German city for it's X-mass markets, this year was Cologne, I missed the Dampfnudel which was a favourite of mine, couldn't find it anywhere. Will see for next hear... Hamburg or Munich or Berlin :D
I'm a German living some years now in California and the way he doesn't reply anything after you ordered the mulled wine 0:58 gives me nice German friendliness memories
Ok, then, I used to live in Stuttgart but am now watching this from Italy: I am not familiar with all that molten cheese, but I so miss a proper Bratwurst and all the other treats right now, aww 😋
15 out of 20 items: Glühwein pure, Glühwein with rum, with whiskey, with gin, with vodka... Repeat the precious with White wine and rosé wine glühwein. There's also Glühcola in some places and it's somehow actually pretty good.

If I ever have a big kitchen or a New kitchen,I’m going to eat Potatoes fried at least once a day. Mmmm.
Just came back from our 1st German Christmas Market. Looks like we missed a lot of the food after watching this!😂 Thanks for sharing!
thank you for the info, w'll be there in a few weeks👍
Please more Christmas Market Videos :)
Very immersive... caught me three times blowing the heat of the food instinctively... lol
Food makes everyone hungry. 😋
Gutted. You didn't put the prices on for all the different foods that you tried. We always like to see them. As usual, it left me feeling hungry.
I like my German Bratwurst. Reibekuchen and fried mushroons are also a favorite.
Thank you for this!! I am going to germany in a few days and this came just in time haha
Have fun !!!

And in Köln i ran in to a stand with Swedish Glögg which is much sweater than Glühwein
And sometimes you even get Glühbier.
Apfelmus gehört auf den Kartoffelpuffer 🤣
Knoblauchsauce... 😁
beides
Curryketchup😂
Zuckerrübensirup!
@@ubierin4797 ja, das mag ich auch
