Erin, I am glad your still out there and busy and just wanted to say I am back onto another learning page! Thanks for your great, relaxed and easy to follow help!
I want to thank you. Mainly because I have always wanted to learn to make these rugs. You are the only person I could understand on how to do them. I think it is because you make it so easy to follow along. So far I have made two large round ones. Going to try the oval next. So once again thank you so very much.
Thank you very much for your lovely note. I am so pleased you have been so successful with your rag rug making. Knowing I have made a small difference in your success makes my heart sing. If you would like to share some of your rugs with me please email them to me. ragrugsbyerin@gmail.com
Finally started my rag rug .I cut sheets easily for me I make quilts so I have everything. I love your videos you a wonderful job explaining. Thank you also the needle I got from you is just right.
@@RagRugsbyErin thanks for answer my email. Doing my best staying safe know you and family .are also with mess going on. Check my rug and seen what I was doing wrong plus looking at you video so I will continue on
Erin, about a year ago, I sent you a question about how much material I would need to make a large rug. Your reply was to start small! Well, 11 months later, I am on my 36th rug! I am totally hooked! I ran into a snag on this last rug, and I knew where to come to find help--back to the beginning with Erin! Thanks so much for teaching in such a way that even someone who had never crocheted could simple pick up some hooks and get started. You do a great job! After watching this video, I think I know where I've gone wrong--too many stitches around the oval ends. I've pulled out the last double crochet row, and I'll try it with fewer stitches. I am wondering if another part of the problem is something new I tried with this rug. I am doing a triple crochet stitch on some sections. It seemed like it was going to be okay, but now I'm wondering. Have you ever used a triple crochet? Are there any different techniques I should be using when I do? Again, thanks so much!
Lori, I have not used a triple crochet in a rug only a double. You may have to use some adjustments on your rug when transitioning with a triple crochet. Being wiling to eyeball it like I discuss in this video would probably serve you best. I am so please you are loving making rag rugs. This was my motivation to making these videos, sharing as I learn. Thank you for your note and sharing with me a bit about yourself. You may want to check out my Facebook page, Rag Rugs by Erin.
@@RagRugsbyErin So I've done two rugs with the triple crochet. It is a looser look--definitely not as tight as a single or double. I'm not entirely sure I like it, but it does go faster. As far as transitioning, I don't actually do my rugs in a continuous strip. When I'm done with one material, I finish the section as if I was finishing the rug. The I start a whole new row with the next material. The advantage is that you don't have the stair step look. It seems to have a more pleasing end result to my eye. Thanks again for the input.
Great. Thank you for the positive input. Some people might find these times of videos boring however I have many requests for this type of information and I so want to help others with there rag rug journey so they will not be discouraged when difficulties arise. You have a wonderful week.
THANK YOU! I'm trying to make a very large basket and I haven't been able to find any help with making such a large bottom for it (1.5'). All the tutorials say the same thing, to go bigger, simply continue pattern adding more single stitches with the round. But it's not that easy. You've made it so I understand where and why I need to add stitches. I can't thank you enough!
That makes me grin to help someone. I have recently organized my videos on my website because even though they are organized on UA-cam. Finding all the parts can be a challenge. You don't have to login, create an account or add them to your cart. Just clink on the blue link in the description and watch as many times as you like. And of course they are free. The video you watched is in the Play list Rag Rug Information and Help Videos. There are about 30 videos in that playlist alone. Www.ragrugsbyerin.com Thank you for your kind words.
Thank you for this video, it really helps. I am making my first rug and I am self taught...what could possibly go wrong..right? I was doing swell until the "curves/arches" began to bow...I wasnt sure if I needed more or less stitches around that area and decided to come online to inquire. It took awhile but I found this video...and I am ready to go again...once my hands have a chance to rest!
So glad you found it helpful. I have over 120 videos mostly on rag rugs. You may want to check out my website. My tutorials are organized there better than UA-cam allows. They are all still free. I have a Playlist called Rag Rug Information and Help Video. You would probably find several videos in this Playlist helpful. My blog is also published there. Have fun creating.
Erin, love your videos! Im beginning crocheting rugs by ur instructions & having 1 initial problem. I am trying to to crochet loosely but its hard to perform. Is there a tip for an easier crochet with cotton fabric (2.5” strips)?
Sorry you are having trouble. What size hook are you using? Please respond in email because it difficult to follow a conversation on UA-cam and find your responses. ragrugsbyerin@gmail
i just commented about this on one of your other videos...ignore it, lol. This is what I meant! Putting two stitches in every other stitch to increase and prevent cupping. Not adding a chain stitch.
You have not added enough extra stitches. The video you posted this under should help you figure out how to do that. You probably need to undo at least a couple rows. If you don't you will probably be chasing it the whole rug.

My sheet yarn frays. Is this part of the look or do I need to use certain types of fabric? Thanks so much for your wonderful videos - fantastic!
Fraying is part of it. I use a minimum of 50% sheet yarn. My favorite it percale. Enjoy creating. 😉

Great information as always. I know what you mean about having to set things aside from time to time! Life gets hectic! :-)
Thanks, Margaret!
I love your channel. I was looking at your website and noticed on the blog the last weekend retreat that you show is 2019. Did you stop doing those?
I was teaching a bit locally. However, life has had some changes. Planning ahead sometimes is now challenging. Thank you for your note and kind words.

Erin I need help iam making a dog bed .I'll send you a picture of it the sides are curling in and I don't know what to do please

Width of material??
It depends on the hook size. This was probably 1.5" to 2".
I save the little pieces of plastic from bread bags they make great stitch markers.
That's a great idea!!!!
Medam please tell me starting and ending
