Thank you Erin. I have had to stop crocheting for the last several years due to arthritis, but I learned this rag rug technique from you and so appreciate it. You take time to explain and go my pace. Thank you so much..
Aww. That is such a lovely note. Thank you for sharing that with me. Sorry, your arthritis is impeding you crocheting fun. You have a wonderful Thanksgiving and a Merry Christmas. Sending my best to you and the ones you hold dear.
I have over 130 tutorials. They are organized on my website www.ragrugsbyerin.com better than UA-cam allows. No account needed. Just click on the link in the Playlist description and view as many times as you like for free.
@Erin Halvorsen I was just gonna braid these sheets, but maybe I'll try my hand at crocheting...🤔 you explained it so easy, even for someone like me that has never really crocheted anything! 🩵 thanks!
Compliments to both you and Mr. Cameraman. Erin, you have saved me so much time making mistakes as I start out my journey crocheting rag rugs. Your patience in showing the method in detail is wonderful and (I'd call him Mr. Awesome) Lyle is so great at getting clear closeups of you working, it's like watching over your shoulder at a class. Thanks for all you're teaching and sharing, I absolutely love hearing "it's a rag rug, just relax"...that stops me stressing about perfecting the rug when dealing with various weights of materials being used.
Wow! Thank you for your generous words of encouragement as well as your appreciations for our efforts. You are correct, he has been my Mr. Awesome for over 32 years. 😉🙋
I like to save up pillow cases, cut them into as long a single strip as I can (minus the tube method) , join them at random and use for "hit and miss" rugs. Thank you for the corners! Mine never look quite right, i wasn't skipping the stitch after the 3 singles. THANK YOU, you always seen to come up with the answer!!!! Happy Sadie Hawkins' Day!
Erin, this came at the perfect time for me. I had made a five rows of 25 single crochet stitches using tee shirt yarn. I was intending about another 35 rows for a rectangle rug. I realized I should have done rows of 50 not rows of 25 for a bigger size rectangle rug. So I decided to do your 3 single crochet in the corners and skip next stitch and go all around my 5 rows of 25 stitches making them the center of the rectangle instead of one of two short ends. This way the rug grow on all four side of the rectangle! I am loving it! Thanks. So easy and soft on my arthritic hands.
This is amazing! Thanks so much, awesome to learn a new way to make rag rugs. I don't use a hook (just my hands), and I've only made circular rugs so far, but adapting this 3 stitch corner method works really well even without using a hook. Love your work!!
Hi Erin, I am fascinated by your rug making, and am busy watching all your videos. Thank you so much for all your time and efforts in putting these videos out.

I am so thrilled to have found your tutorials! Finally instructions that make sense to me. I have already make an oval rug and a circle rug and although I need practice still, I am very happy with how they turned out - oval and round! All thanks to you. I want to try a rectangle next and on this video you mention you had calculations for how many chain stitches you need for different sizes on your blog. Can you tell me which blog post? I can't seem to find it and am interested in reading it. Thanks much! Deb
Great. It sounds like you are progressing well with your rag rugs. The blog is on the second page December 2108. The best way to communicate with me is email. ragrugsbyerin@gmail.com I would love to see pictures of your creations when and if time permits.
Hi Erin, I love your rugs and tutorials. Thanks especially the old lost way of making rag rugs. I notice your rug in the house. It’s beautiful and am looking for something like it. The colors are perfect for me. Can you tell where you got it. I am in the process of making a rug out of old sheets.
Thank you for your kind words. Are you talking about the large rug that isn't a rag rug. If so it was bought from a rug dealer outside the United States on vacation. I have had it close to 20 years.
Hi Erin. Love your videos and have started crocheting my own rag rugs. Wondering if you have some sort of formula or method of predicting how much sheet yarn you will need for a particular size and shape of rag rug? I keep running out of the colors/patterns I'm using before my rug is of the size I want it, and then have to go out an find more sheets that will go with what I've already used to make more sheet yarn to complete my rug. Thank you!
I am glad you have started a rag rug. I do not have a formula on how much sheet yarn you need to make a rug. Most of my average rug use 2.5 lbs to 3.5 pounds of sheet yarn. I hope that helps some. 🌞
Thank you so much. That will definitely give me an idea of what amount to have on hand before starting a rug. I’ve done two and starting a new one tomorrow. Love doing it and your video have helped me so much! Thank you for sharing this craft.
Hi Erin! Thank you for all of your great instruction and videos. I'm getting ready to start a rug, and realized that the first pillowcase I cut into yarn was 100% polyester. I don't like the way it frayed. Is it better to use 100% cotton and/or a mix of more cotton and polyester, such as 60% to 40% ? Thank you!
Glad you are starting a rag rug. My opinion, others may feel differently, is that a minimum of 50 % cotton. My personal favorite is percale. I hope that helps. 😊☀️
It could work however t-shirts have a stretch and it could make it wonky depending on your tension with the stretch. It may require you to make adjustments or it might be spot on. Sorry I can't give you an exact answer but that is the nature of making rag rug. I hope that helps.
