38:00 True. I believe the sequels were called something like I Still Know what you Did Last Summer and I Will Always Know What You Did Last Summer. It's pretty amazing that they could pretty much use exactly the same kind of setup for the killer 3 times in a row. :/
The 2nd film is way more of a generic annoying slasher horror film with every cliche possible....the first one at least had the core point of the book it's based on...aka trauma which was also the core of the first 4 screams...without that these films would be lame af...the start of the sequel makes you think it's about julie and ray maybe accepting their past trauma but it's dropped very fast and doesn't come back up once the real plot gets going...hated it...
This film pissed me off SOOOO much. They had a discussion early on the film about how horror movies are effectively modern day morality stories, fine, they hit a guy and dump his body, fine, they then have to learn a lesson about their misdeeds by having the killer hunt them down through out the film. All of this would've been perfect if in the end they owned up to their mistake when the cops are questioning them. What this film is then saying is morally ethical when you nearly kill a guy and dump his body is to then lie about it when confronted as to why you're being stalked by him when he has a justifiable axe to grind. Some folks might try to claim this was "being meta and subverting expectations," but for that to work you have to establish a meta frame work, like Scream did in it's very first scene. And don't even get me started on the killer in this film, he is such a troll, he had so many opportunity to off these shit bird teens, but he just decided to fuck with them every chance he got. Say what you will about Ghostface, he's clumsy as shit, but he's committed, there's no screwing around like "hook hand" here. You had the time to chop off prom queen's hair while she slept and the stealth skills to not manage to wake her, but you DON'T slice her throat??? DAFUQ!?
