With Halloween 🎃 not far off The Sugar Houses that Were Runned by the British during the Revolutionary War in Manhattan and being Haunted 👻 Has to be my Favorite because I love ghost Stories 👻 I am a fan from Minnesota
I'm a Native New Yorker and I consider myself pretty tuned into the history of NYC and I love showing friends around the City. I didn't know about 2 of these places. Another one , my knowledge was - iffy - at best. Very interesting video. Thanks for posting.
Very Interesting. The Buildings showing damage of an explosion centuries old and very few know that, yet venture past that area often is amazing! That area should be as recognized from history as September 11th.
Amazed by the timing!! I am reading NEW YORK by Edward Rutherfurd, and it tells the story of NYC from 1664 up to 2001. I am enjoying so much your video today, as I can see the places that are reflected in the book. Thanks a lot, you guys, that is really rewarding! Well done. Ariel, you have a new subscriber from Spain. Congrats!
Great collaboration and hidden gems for tourists and native New Yorker's alike. My hidden gem is in upper Manhattan inside Inwood Hill Park by 215th... Shorakkopoch Rock, a site where Peter Minuit bought the island of Manhatta from the Native Indians.. Keep up your fine work.
Great video. One note, the Guastavino tiles are not Italian but were brought to NY by the Spaniard Rafael Guastavino, who got a patent for this Catalan-styled vault construction and built it all over NY.
That´s right! Guastavino was Spanish from Valencia and he built some 250 buildings in NYC and more than one thousand in the rest of the country. His specialty was the flame retardant tiles he used to cover domes and ceilings. Great architect, indeed.
My favorite collaboration on your channel so far. You two are an amazing pair here on UA-cam, your two channels really complement each other. I really hope to see more of this in the future.
I love NYC for so many reasons but one of the main ones are it's hidden Gems. I did knew about the Wall Street Bombings and I think it's sad that it's been forgotten. Great video like always Jon
AWESOME vlog!! I been visiting all the places you hit for years. Need to hit Fraunces Tavern real soon. I was wondering if they were open. Love that place.
They placement of the Obelisks also corresponds with the statue of liberty. All 3 Obelisk and the statue make a version of the little dipper consolation. Saw it on history channel. Also you should do a video on the Needle of Cleopatra in Central Park
You guys were near my work. I’ve taken a few photos of Stone Street. Yet I did not know about some of the hidden gems. Now I want to see them. Great job! 👏👏👏
I like to start my day watching a channel before the day gets busy. This is really great to have Ariel co-host. I know he has been in Ireland. At some point the two of you should do another video together. You both work well together and can pick up subscribers and likes. I actually support both of your channels. Interesting sights and stories. I will check out Stone St.
Love, l-o-v-e, lo-o-v-v-e-e this channel. Im native Angeleno who is in love with NY. Really enjoyed visiting Washington mews, the Berlin wall, and Irish memorial, thank you Barrio for sharing with the world. Can't wait for my next trip so I can visit these hidden spots. ALSO love Brookly, perhaps a video on BKs hidden gems? Please continue to make content, it helps the world stay connected when travel has been placed on hold.
New York as of now is open. Please check the New York Government website for travel advice. If you are coming from a country with restrictions please check before coming. We also placed travel restrictions on neighboring states so it's important to visit online or phone in!
Ryan Flores don’t you worry, I keep checking! I’m in the UK and unfortunatly right now the states is off limits completely! Fingers crossed for next year👏🏼
I really enjoyed that one. Here's an interesting coincidence - Porterhouse is an Irish brand that got started here about 30 years ago. The brewery is in a random industrial estate on the outskirts of dublin, exactly 250m from where I watched this vid. Crazy!!! So happy to see more vids from you actually back out and about in the city :)
The Wall St. bombing was quickly cleaned up as to avoid a bank panic. The bomb left a crater in the street and was filled in by the end of the day. Chambers St. has three separate stations. The 1 2 3, the A C, and the J Z. Which one? I assume the J Z since it's near a cluster of NYPD facilities...
Great vlog, I love everything you do when you show us the City. Just a little comment about Guastavino. Mr. Rafael Guastavino was not Italian but Spanish. He is known as the architect of New York. Never stop
As you walked into Cannon's Walk, I had to pause the video because my main thought was "I recognize that area!" I didn't recognize Cannon's Walk itself, since I didn't realize that area existed. Rather, I recognized the building you walked through to get to it. A few years ago, some friends and I sat on those colorful benches enjoying our ice cream from Big Gay Ice Cream.
I have been to Massachusetts and they have some history tours, and I know NyC has the bus tours. Can you give us some info on tours in NYC you would recommend that has history we can view some spots of?
My wife and I would've been in NYC this whole week, but due to current circumstances we had to cancel our trip (we canceled it about 1 1/2 month ago) ... :-( Hopefully next year we will be there!
I always love your videos Jon! I find a lot of them interesting....I hope to return to NYC sometimes soon (I live relatively close on Canada's East coast) and will use your videos as a guide. Haven't been to NC since 2005, so I'm sure a lot has changed.
I remember seeing the Worth monument as for years I ran c Christmas store and the main building for the Christmas ornament manufacturers show rooms was at 1107 Broadway right accross from the Worth monument.
Love your videos, been using them to plan a trip to NYC happening in a few weeks. Being Irish I was intrigued as to why there's an obelisk dedicated to Robert Emmet in Manhattan, so I done some reading. It's not actually dedicated to Robert Emmet, it's to his older brother Thomas Emmet, who went to America and became a lawyer after Robert died in the failed Irish rebellion of 1803.
Pretty cool! Knew some and learn some even though I worked at S&P building (55Water Street), World Financial , World Trade, and few across the water at Exchange. In NYC every stone has a history :)
It is Thomas Emmet's memorial in St. Paul's Chapel. He was brother to Robert Emmet. Thomas came to America and was a lawyer. Robert Emmet was hung by the British in Ireland in 1803.
Ren Pilak so sad u don’t know how to read since my name is not Karen. And I was being respectful, with no intention of annoying him but the comment was for Urbanist, not for u. There are people who care about him 😌❤️
Nathaly Veneros Ha, ha 😂! You’re actually dumber than your first comment! You’re nothing, but, a Karen! Stay home to keep the public away from the dangers of your stupidity!
Jon, I have a suggestion for you: why don’t you live city tour? You have great knowledge about the city and I think viewers will like it. I live in NJ. If you want, I may be able to help you shooting the videos.
Definitely vist Lombardi's it may look like another pizza slice shop in NYC. But its actually the oldest pizzeria in The Americas. Go there and you can get a literal "slice of history"
This is my neighborhood so I knew about the JP Morgan building and have done Cannons walk before. Thanks for the video tour, always fun to see and definitely have Ariel on again! Check out the Fidi Fan page on FB for more information about the neighborhood including history.
New York City is the most important commercial center in America BECAUSE there aren't many streets predating 1835. New York isn't afraid to make room for the new. It doesn't want to be an open air museum.

What an adventure! Ariel is a wealth of information. Cannon’s Walk was an amazing find!
The legend!! Thanks for swinging by Kenneth.
Thanks for having me on! It was a pleasure collaborating you, man! Also love the editing on this video. 🙌
Thanks Ariel, i'll never look at Lower Manhattan the same way again.

Dude NYC is such a vibe. Heading out there in a few weeks, would love to meet up brother!
My favorite part about New York is that there’s always something to discover. I’ve been there twice and it still blows me away.

Lived here my whole life, and there's still always something new to discover.

This was so incredibly fascinating especially having walked by these locations every single day.
Great video. One note, the Guastavino tiles are not Italian but were brought to NY by the Spaniard Rafael Guastavino, who got a patent for this Catalan-styled vault construction and built it all over NY.
Thanks for the info!
That´s right! Guastavino was Spanish from Valencia and he built some 250 buildings in NYC and more than one thousand in the rest of the country. His specialty was the flame retardant tiles he used to cover domes and ceilings. Great architect, indeed.
I love the little pictures on the q train when u going towards Manhattan! This is amazing
great collab. the urbanist’s vids are always very informative.
@urbanist is one of my favorite youtubers, a wealth of knowledge and history!
Gosh NY is so fascinating . 🗽Thanks for this .
Both of you did a great job showing us the hidden history of Lower Manhattan in NYC. Your friend knows his stuff!
My favorite collaboration on your channel so far. You two are an amazing pair here on UA-cam, your two channels really complement each other. I really hope to see more of this in the future.

I enjoy your tour of historical parts of NYC. You should do more of these videos.
John, I think there is no better time to do this than now in NYC, lots of space due to covid
This was so good. I am not sure of my obsession with Old New York but I am somehow drawn to it and sure do appreciate your knowledge about it.
AWESOME vlog!! I been visiting all the places you hit for years. Need to hit Fraunces Tavern real soon. I was wondering if they were open. Love that place.
Cannon’s walk and Seaport museum awesome!!,You and Ariel are the best youtubers of New York City!!
keep up the good work!!

I really am hoping America will be open for travel in January! Really need my trip to NYC☺️

Had to be an easy transition for the outdoor dining on Stone St. Even in normal times there was a lot of it
Exactly
Very interesting video. Next time we visit you need to take us to these places :-)
Deal!
Going to NYC in March for the first time, almost all my plans and reservations are thanks to Here Be Barr. THANKS!
Amazing. We live in New York and never Ben to these places lol thanks for sharing
Chambers street is a sad station 😁 I wouldn’t change a thing ❤️
Informative! Good job John!
Some new places for me, me, a lifelong New Yorker! Mahvelous!
I can’t snap or whistle but I love history! One of my minors was History & I live in Nashville which is Heaven for a history buff!
I really enjoyed that one. Here's an interesting coincidence - Porterhouse is an Irish brand that got started here about 30 years ago. Excellent video with Ariel, Jon. Lots of important historical information. Thank you and Ariel for presenting and sharing.

Oh, I'll have to do Cannon's Walk soon. I wished you also covered Little Syria, only three buildings left.
Jon, one of your most interesting videos ! Walt in Miami
This was great. It's nice to see all these unique places in Manhattan. Cheers!

I’m not surprised! Stay well Seth .
Jon dude the soundeffects eddited in there was amazing experience!
That was fun and interesting! : )
That was great! Ariel gained a subscriber!
I'm glad you enjoyed the secrets! thanks for subscribing!
Stone Street is fabulous 🥰
it's fabulous when it's not too crowded.
The first one had me in aw already. I never knew that existed!
In Belgium we call these Belgian blocks childheads ( kinderkopjes) 😁
I only learned that name from Ariel, i just assumed cobblestone.
Awesome.
Jon, this was one of the best videos!
Loved it!!!
John go to Amster Yard. It is an amazing hidden gem located in Turtle Bay.
Never heard of it! Thanks.
@@HereBeBarr you will love it!
E 49th st.
@@HereBeBarr right inside a vestibule by a school to learn conversational Spanish...great outdoor courtyard...i take tourists there all the time.
Wow ! Fantastic tour Folks! Thank you! :D
Cannon’s Walk reminds me of Diagonal Alley in Harry Potter!
You can draw a straight line from any point A to any Point B, not out of the ordinary.
Johnny Culver that wasn’t the extraordinary thing. He said there was another obelisk _exactly_ in the middle of point A and point B.
Hi John. The Edge is opening in 2 days!! :)
Love you New York city bro new York city is the my all time favourite city in the world bro love you bro
Loved this collaboration.
It is Thomas Emmet's memorial in St. Paul's Chapel. He was brother to Robert Emmet. Thomas came to America and was a lawyer. Robert Emmet was hung by the British in Ireland in 1803.

Thanks bro.

Hey Jon great video but can you do one on how to avoid the 14 day quarantine? JK lol maybe 😂
I like how the Urbanist pronounced “Manhattan”
