Hi my name is David Muller from Milton NSW .whenever I done with my Bowel Cancer I'm going to buy a van and go on a road trip around Australia I can't wait to get off to do my trip I've got one more big operation before Christmas or next year guys. David
Hey Dave. That sounds like an awesome plan. All the best with your operation/recovery and we hope you have a cracking time out exploring afterwards :-)
As a 22 year bowel cancer survivor and 72 I am planning a minivan or car camping setup to just spontaneously go for overnight or a few days away in nature as that is what keeps me going go for it
I did a solo lap in 2017. 45000 ks all up. Worked out to a $ 1.00 a kilometer with a Landcruiser and a camper trailer. About to do it again but this time I will pick up a bit of work as I travel. Happy travels.
My wife and I travel in a ford ranger pulling a 2 tonne van, staying in caravan parks mainly with the occasional showground, national park and free camping. $1,000 a week is fairly accurate if you don't go nuts and don't scrimp too much.
Hi Ebony. Very well done and easy to take in. Covered just about everything, and as you said, each person's travelling style is different so you can adapt to suit your circumstances. Keep up the good work. We've been following you from the start. Very easy on the ears. We've been caravanning for over 20 years and you have nailed it. Cheers. 👍👌💙🙂
Hi Michael, wow thanks so much, that's a massive wrap. Glad you're enjoying it. 20 years caravanning - that's awesome! Hopefully we get to enjoy it for that long.
Hi, I would love a copy of your list please. So good to listen/watch a straight forward video with these recommendations! My husband are I are enjoying watching, learning and enjoying your travels!
Thanks for the video, very informative knowing you guys are seasoned travellers. We plan on staying a bit on inlaws land which would cut some costs right down but obviously still want to see some sights too. I think the hardest part for me is closing down my business in the first place and knowing the only income we'll have is whatever the share market throws our way and savings. Selling our home is another big deal but the 5 acres of ludicrous gardens is simply too much for a tenant to look after Spending time with our parents though is priceless and we never know how much time anyone might have left so that's what spurrs me on to just go ahead and do it. I bet it will be the trip of a lifetime we probably will be really glad we took
Hi Jeremy. I'm no investment advisor, but have you considered selling your 5 acres and buying something smaller specifically as an investment to rent out while you travel? I am not giving advice, because who knows, maybe the property market will crash, I don't have a crystal ball. And you'll have real estate agent fees to sell, and probably stamp duty when you buy. And there's no certainty you'll get tenants, or good ones. But, just an idea. Absolutely, this is a trip of a lifetime. For us, it's easily the best thing we've ever done. The hard part will be when it's over. But, everyone is different so go into it with an open mind. There are people who have done it and they've finished early because it's not their cup of tea. As I said though, for us it was the best thing we've ever decided to do. All the best, and if you have any questions feel free to ask. Sending us an email at onthewaughpath@gmail.com, or messaging us on FB are probably the best ways to get us. Cheers mate.
Thanks Waugh Team, Just opening our retirement adventure book, and would be grateful for a copy of your costs file. Thanks in advance. Video well received. Thanks again
Thanks so much for this feedback Bruce. Sounds like an adventure ahead of you! Can you please send us a quick email at onthewaughpath@gmail.com and we'll reply with the file?
I took off around Australia in 2016 with $800 1995 patrol 1983 viscount 13 foot poptop . We managed to get around ok. Shoestring budget . Cook only with fire . Shop food to last 4 week periods and vac pack the food . The biggest killer is fuel . Free camp only and buy bulk food on special. You don’t need luxuries. You could do the loop around in a beat up ford station wagon easy.
Great tips mate, thanks for sharing. Absolutely agree - you can make it happen and it will be amazing no matter how you do it. There are people out there doing it with all different set ups. The most important thing is to just do it, it's unforgettable.
I think it's impossible to do a budget. I just spent two weeks in Tasmania on my bike ( motorbike ) at a cost of $2,500 followed up with an 8 day camping trip on my motorbike for $200 ( all inclusive ). You can do it as cheaply or expensive as you want depending on how you want to live.
yeah agree mate sometimes it can be tough to budget especially when doing shorter trips. This was our experience based on the average. I'm surprised that Tassie was so much for you - it has heaps of free camps available. A lot to get over there though!
@@onthewaughpath6552 Unfortunately the bloke I was travelling with in Tassie doesn't camp so accommodation was the killer. Plus we didn't pre book so we could follow the good weather which meant we paid more than we should have. I'll be going back next year with a different approach.
@@coobye oh I see - that makes sense. Yep, people travel very differently, so once again shows how it's hard to budget as we don't all travel the same way. Anyway, Tassie is awesome - hope you enjoyed it 🙂
Have just started following. Hoping to retire in a couple of years and have just purchased a motor home in anticipation. Obviously won't be able to get off the beaten track like you guys. Great videos, kids crack me up 😀, love your taste in music. Keep the entertainment coming 👏👏👏
Thanks so much for this comment Simon! You'll love taking the motorhome out travelling. You'll still be able to get it into stacks of great spots. Very exciting for you :-). PS The kids crack us up too.
Hi Ebony, Great video, lots to think about. It's ok to do this as a holiday for a week or so, but as a lifestyle you have raised some very useful things. Please send the spreadsheet. I have my own camper, and a 3 year plan to move into this lifestyle (when the girls finish school, they will stay in our house) So, I have the next couple of years to get used to the camper and set it up, as well as refine your excellent spreadsheet to suit my circumstances. Hi Ebony Danny, E and Ace, Thanks So much for breaking it all down. Even though it's a straight forward task it can be overwhelming so hearing and visualizing going through it is fantastic. Hi Ebony super information you are sharing here thanks for being so generous. Would love a copy of the budget spreadsheet. P.S. great editing of the videos 👍
Excellent video thanks. A very good starting point. Looking to purchase a Motorhome in the not to distance future. I would like the spreadsheet please. Cheers.🙂

Hi, thanks for the breakdown. We’re planning the big trip with our little family in the near future. I’d love a copy of the spreadsheet please Thank you. Ps enjoying catching up on your content!
Hey Eb, watched all your vids and they are getting better. Enjoying seeing the kids doing things that I wish id done with mine (except the tapping - Danny shouldn’t either 😄😄) and that they get on with each other makes travel much more bearable - could you flick through the spread sheet please. Like the other list it will make a good starting point for us - thanks
Hi again Dave :-) Yeah it does make it easier when the kids get along. They're pretty good most of the time, but they do get sick of each other and they let us all know about it when they do! Can you please shoot us an email at onthewaughpath@gmail.com and we'll reply with the list, & spreadsheet? Cheers.
Hi Ebony and Danny. Found this video really helpful. Could you please “send me the spreadsheet”? I’m enjoying watching your adventures, and look forward to doing our own similar trip soon. Safe travels and thank you. Anita. :)
Hi Anita. So glad the video was helpful and you're enjoying the journey with us. Super exciting that you're doing a similar trip soon :-) Can you please shoot us an email at onthewaughpath@gmail.com and we'll reply with the file? Cheers.
Hi Ebony! Glad to see you're still actively responding, I was hoping to get some tips on what kind of van/camper to rent. We're thinking of doing a 3-4 week, one way trip from east to west. Are we stuck with ordering a van from Britz or some other large company, or is it possible to get a rental + pop-up one way? Thanks so much and happy trails!
Hiya! Love the videos and especially this one of the breakdown of costs. Always love finding a fellow spreadsheet spirit animal! Can you please send me the file? Thanks!
Hi Ebony We are new subscribers and are in planning stage of Motorhoming (yet to even try it out). If we could have a copy of your spreadsheet it would be helpful. Look forward to following more of your travels.

Hi Stephen. Thank you for your kind words. So sorry for the massive delay! Can you please shoot us an email at onthewaughpath@gmail.com and we'll send you the list?
Hi Ebony! This was very informative as I was always curious about the costs. Thank you for the spreadsheet of the items. Looking forward to the next video. Safe travels!
Hi Ebony. We have loved watching your videos and watching your travels with your family. I just wanted to know where you got your beautiful bed cover that your have on your bed in the back ground. I would love to purchase something similar for our bed in the van. Keep up the great work and thank you for sharing your adventures of this great country. Yvonne
Hi Yvonne. Thanks for the message and thanks for watching. The rug is from a company called Salty Aura. You can buy their stuff online, but we got ours in a shop in Esperance. Have a great week :-)

Hi Ebony, I really enjoyed watching your video. Please send me the spreadsheet file. I am planning on travelling myself and dog in a converted Coaster bus. I am near retirement age, but I also have a counselling business as a side line. Look forward to hearing back and watching more of your videos, cheers Ros
hiya. Sorry for the delayed response! Will do. Can you please shoot us an email at onthewaughpath@gmail.com and we'll send it out to you? Sounds like you will have an awesome time! A converted coaster bus sounds fantastic. Heaps of people travelling with dogs. You can't camp at some places with them (like national parks), but there are a lot of dog sitters that you can find along the way too, so if there's anything that you desperately want to see that you can't take your dog, you could use that. Enjoy!
Hi, just found your channel and have subscribed. We are currently setting up our van and planning the life on the road and are also about to sell our house if we ever get out of lockdowns and curfews here in Victoria Your video was very down to earth and explained the budget side very well Would appreciate if you could please send me a copy of the file as I do also love a good spreadsheet and this would be a great start Thanks
Hiya! Very exciting times ahead for you. Hopefully planning for the trip is helping keep you upbeat during covid times. Can you please shoot us an email at onthewaughpath@gmail.com, and then we'll respond with the file? We'll have a new vid on here in a couple of weeks to help with planning - basically all the stuff we got before we started. Hopefully that will help too. Cheers.
Very well done, just little question from an old Jeep owner 1 is has yours broken down and if not what year is it as the late models always seem to get a bad name. Thanks john.
Hi John. Our JEEP is a 2019 model and we've not had a problem with it. We've been very happy with it. We've heard that models from 2017 and prior have had issues, but the recent ones seem to be good.
Thanks for the info, but eek! Costs are rather daunting when you include pretty much everything aren't they! I'm glad I have had 60yrs of a lifetime to have some trips here & there (probably a good thing I've not kept track of the costs as I was working between times using annual leave etc!) Still hungry for more, but have no job/no income now (but no kids either) so will be a bit tricky, but will make it happen!
Am sure you can make it happen! We do travel very comfortably so I'm sure the costs can be reduced if doing things like eating out less, travelling slower, not drinking as much beer!, staying at more free camps etc Some people do travel for a lot less :-)
Send me the file - Please. Wonderful insight. Perfect! My biggest question for anyone travelling Australia in a motorhome is "how safe is it"? When I say safe, I am meaning like free camps at night and incidents with undesirables along the way. Maybe you have some information on this in one of your videos? My second biggest question is "are there any long-term motorhome rentals in Australia"? Say 6 months or is it more economical to buy and sell. Oh, I am from NZ by the way. Cheers and happy travels in your beautiful country.
Hi there. please shoot us an email at onthewaughpath@gmail.com and we'll send you the file. In terms of safety, we felt safe at free camps, but you can never guarantee it. There will always be some people out there, luckily only the 1% or less, who have bad intentions. At a lot of places there are a number of people around, but occasionally you're at a spot by yourself and it could b dangerous if the wrong person came by. Re motorhome rental, we're not sure sorry, but for caravan def cheaper to buy/sell than rent in our opinion.
Hi Ebony, just started following. Great information in the video, we are currently researching a suitable motor home and fact finding as we put our future travel plans together. Thank you for sharing your costs etc - please do ‘send me the file’
Great vid. Can I suggest you switch to ALDI mobile . I was with Telstra for years. Made the switch and saving heaps. Uses Telstra towers so no change in service. Check it out.
Hi mate. It's funny you mentioned this. We both had ALDI at home and LOVED them. Got awesome service at a really cheap price, and we knew they use Telstra towers so thought we'd be sweet with them for travelling. Until we ventured into the outback. When we got to Karumba (a fishing town in north-west QLD) where we got 0 reception. We were looking around at everyone else on the phones wondering 'why don't we have any reception? It turns out that TELSTRA only lets ALDI piggy-back on their service in cities/regional towns. So once you get to remote places, or the outback they don't work at all! Our advice when travelling would be to get Telstra or Optus, or if there are 2 people travelling get 1 Telstra and 1 Optus.
Hey guys my wife and I and our 18 month old are thinking about taking a year off work to do a lap. We would love a copy of the file to help with our planning. We have loved your videos your kids are beautiful! I'll send you an email 👍🏼
Hi Ebony, we intend doing the lap commencing next May. I found your budgeting video very informative. Will you please send me a copy of the spreadsheet. thanks
been doing it for 7 years --costs me about $14000 per year in 2024. Single with dog --don't smoke-don't drink beer . Stayed in free sites . I didn't arrive at a desert then drive 200ks through a desert to arrive at a pub in the desert and then drive 200k to get out of the desert.
Great video how can I get a copy of the file wife and I are going next year when I retire have done heaps of small trips in our van but nothing to big money has been the scary part holding us back but thanks for the information bill.

Great advice. $1 per km is the safest way to approximate your adventure. It has worked for us!
Thanks guys.
A dollar a km. .for real....in a semi maybe, lol. .i put 50 in my van and get about 470km.
If it cost me $50 to go 50km'd never drive anywhere

Hiya. That's great, thank you. Sure can. Can you please send us an email at onthewaughpath@gmail.com and we'll send it to you?
Cheers.

Hey Ebony I also flicked you an email. 🤙 great video lots of value.
Hi Daniel. We don't know a huge amount about renting a van, but suggest you jump onto Camplify and it will have options for you.
Hiya! Love the videos and especially this one of the breakdown of costs. Always love finding a fellow spreadsheet spirit animal! Can you please send me the file? Thanks!

Hi Yvonne. Thanks for the message and thanks for watching.
The rug is from a company called Salty Aura. You can buy their stuff online, but we got ours in a shop in Esperance.

Hi Joshua. Sounds like very exciting times ahead for you 3! Can you please shoot a message to onthewaughpath@gmail.com and we'll send you the file? I think we'd get along with your wife!
Enjoy!
A great informative video Ebony. Thanks for doing it.
My pleasure!
Send me the file. Very helpful video - just starting to think about a big trip, so glad I found this
Hi mate. Will do. Can you please email us at onthewaughpath@gmail.com and we'll send you the list? Cheers.

Cheers.
@@onthewaughpath6552 Yes exciting and look forward to getting into it Will send you an email now, thanks Look forward to your upcoming vids
Hi Ebony, this video was amazing and very informative "Send me the file" tia :)
Thanks Blake. Can you please shoot an email to onthewaughpath@gmail.com and I'll send you the file? Cheers.

Great video, and would appreciate a copy of the spreadsheet. Cheers.
Thanks James. Will do, please send us an email at onthewaughpath@gmail.com and we'll get it to you.
@@onthewaughpath6552 thanks for the encouragement :)
This was great. Thanks x
you're welcome :-)
Great stuff!
I’m about to retire and embark on my solo lap of Oz…please send me a copy of your spreadsheet.
Cheers

hi Janet. Will do. Can you please shoot us an email at onthewaughpath@gmail.com and we'll send it out to you?
@@onthewaughpath6552 Thanks for the heads up! I have only used locally. I will definitely look into it prior to our planned trip in 2022
Awesome! I've completed the full lap in 2 years time in a Mazda6 Wagon! 🚙🦘

A great video Ebony. Please send me the spreadsheet. Thanks
hi there. So sorry for the late reply. please send us an email at onthewaughpath@gmail.com and we'll send it.
been doing it for 7 years --costs me about $14000 per year in 2024. Single with dog --don't smoke-don't drink beer . Stayed in free sites . I didn't arrive at a desert then drive 200ks through a desert to arrive at a pub in the desert and then drive 200k to get out of the desert.
so awesome to have been doing it for 7 years and so affordably. Nice!
