This movie definitely had something over the sequels. That being atmosphere, creepy settings, great music, memorable characters with distinct personalities, great practical effects, great setting, awesome villain (the red queen) and an overall satisfying experience. Even this intro is better than the others. Setting up the power of the umbrella corporation and the fear it's meant to instill, with cool effects and a cool logo appearance and a great pull in from a dark void into the world of Resident Evil. Sorry, this movie was so much better than the rest (:
Guess RE: Afterlife made no difference as they used James Cameron’s Fusion Camera to give not just a big HD experience, but to make it feel more immersive.
I remember seeing this in theaters when I was seven. I was entranced by the soundtrack, impressive narration, and overall opening presentation. Hard to relive that experience.
This and the ending shot which is essentially, the same shot adding a reverse angle, steady cam, crane pullout are the best in the movie. Nice nods to Day of the Dead 1985

Fun fact for anyone who wants to know, the voiceover describing The Umbrella Corporation here is actually done by Jason Isaacs, who also cameos in the end as the scientist who orders the reopening of The Hive, with a hint that he was supposed to be Dr. William Birkin. Made me extremely excited at the prospect of such a talented veteran actor taking the reins as one of the game's major characters turned monsters, but sadly completely tossed the opportunity away by the time Apocalypse rolled out. Makes me hope that if the talks of rebooting the series and making them closer to the games are true, they'll remember him and offer him the role.
A little fun fact the reason why these movies didn't follow the games was because capcom supposedly requested they have an original storyline out of fear of people not playing the games. However this movie as a stand-alone film, is technically considered a prequel to the games, but the demand for sequels ended up changing its continuty to them
@@t_man7259was this ever confirmed? Cause it seems believable that Capcom would want it to be it's own continuity rather than set in the game universe. Especially since the games have there own mass of problems as well, which is probably why the Remake timeline is a thing now.
@randomenclavefanboy3415 im not sure exactly. If you're into cinematography then you'll understand the overwhelming importance to "Andromeda Strain" that it pays homage to in so many designs and framings. This first film was really dope and actually mildly scary because it wasnt trying to be a blockbuster action film. Its shared pace with the older games where it was exciting yet really un-fucking-settling. You nor anyone was ever in control of the situation. No one was a badass bc they were untouchable. You didn't know what was coming and barely made it out where you saw every one else suffer horrible fucking deaths and it gave you a minor moment of feeling like a badass for just scraping by alive. I truly wish the rest of the films followed suit in this production style as well as the games. Jan Herfs The Red Queen killed the employees via poisonous gas after the lockdown. The T-virus probably reanimated the dead bodies of the dogs in the cages as shown in the movie. Think about it. All of the employees had bite marks and signs of eaten flesh, so dogs ate the dead bodies and the virus slowly spread.
the virus is airborne, the bite marks are probably due to them eating each other. the guy who threw the vial was a high rank employee of umbrella, he destroyed the facility and stole the research. there are factions within umbrella who fight each other over control and power.
Jan Herfs That's especially true of a facility that operates with deadly pathogens, typically when working with airborne viruses it's done so in a sealed environment; the people are in suits with an oxygen supply, fed through external tubes directly into the suit, and the air in the environment itself is fed through a furnace ,for lack of a better word, where it is heated to adequate levels for killing any viruses; and then it's cooled down before being fed back into the rest of the environment.

I remember I bought this movie out of impulse from a deli when it first came out I didn't even know what resident evil was I have loved and seen every movie since
one of the best intros i have seen, this sums up the very essence of the corrupt, decadent and evil malignant nature of the usa military industrial complex to a T.
I sat here and tried to disagree with you, but couldn't find a good reason why you're wrong. I just really didn't like the saw movies. I mean psychological torture is a good premise though, lots you can do with it, lots of ways to take it... But I like zombies a lot better... :P that's a fun game of survival every time... and in the R.E. series we watch humanity all but die out, coming real close to species annihilation. Not to mention epic directed mutations and telekinesis and clones and action the music and Mila Jovovich who I honestly probably can't get enough of. R.E. wins out for me easily.
Great conversion from video game to a movie.Mila Jovovic was so hot back then and since her acting in other films was not so very good, her role as an action hero was great.

:}
Fico até arrepiado bicho, um hino desses
Oddly I find this song very comforting & scary at the same time & I enjoy making choreography to this every other day now 😂❤
The umbrella corporation inspired by the japanese camp unit 731 , where the craziest brutal experiment attached on prisoners of world war 2
wait woah what but this actually makes sense
The Start of legend.
best movie intro ever
I love this movie, I've watched a hundred times.
I’ve played every resident evil game and not until this have I seen Umbrella and corrupt capital be called the Resident Evil. This rules
It's make you feel good when you know you're not alone on how you feel about this intro, I remember going to see in theaters and the intro gave me goosebumps because it's so captivating. After the movie, I would talk to friends about it on the way home, they didn't seem to care for it.
21 yrs old......
Best intro of all time.
Intro to Resident Evil: 2020
I remember I bought this movie out of impulse from a deli when it first came out I didn't even know what resident evil was I have loved and seen every movie since
Sergio Moreno emmm play the first games. Re 1 to 3 are the best in my opinion
you bought the resident evil movie from a deli
bobs yea they sold it behind the counter I still remember that day
It started from Wuhan 😁
But made from usa
1:26 Corona Virus belike
the rest of the movies were decent and worth watching, but this one was in a league of its own, and the OST played a big part in that.
"You are all going to die down here!" -Red Queen
Best introduction ever! The whole sequence is ominous af. This movie sparked my fandom into the entire Resident Evil-verse.
my ringtone :D
Gotta love the needlesslessly fiddly gripping of small round machined metal vials containing deadly virus with a crude robotic hand
Why does the breakout of the coronavirus reminds me of this scene?
JM DV06 x2 :v
one of the best intros i have seen, this sums up the very essence of the corrupt, decadent and evil malignant nature of the usa military industrial complex to a T.
This intro is nostalgic for me
I freaking love this movie watch it for seven times a week sometimes I can't get enough of it every single part of it is perfect in every way
Best movie franchise ever! Love the music resident evil movies have and the action!
Saw movies is better..
R.E. wins out for me easily.
lolskmy dick They were B movies, but they were entertaining. You are a snob.
Какая ностальгия.. хочется пересмотреть фильм.
2:39 аварию в муравейнике вызвал Спенсер, даже его лицо заметно.
I can't get that film out of my head to know how Awesome this movie is
hello everyone from 2020! here we have some kind of virus began to rage in China
Ты русский знаешь?
The new Pfizer commercial is intense!
Welcome to the pharmaceutical industry 😉
I asked my friend how did covid start and he sent me this.
Great conversion from video game to a movie.Mila Jovovic was so hot back then and since her acting in other films was not so very good, her role as an action hero was great.
2:31 The most illogical moment in the film: If the T-Virus is so dangerous, why is it kept in a non-durable glass?
Probably because they didn't care about the people of city
The launching of the "Nike World Cup - Corona Virus Games: the make CHF reach 90 points challenge"
so addicted to this background song
The scene when the film peaked...
