I love Dadspeed! Recently joined a different server based off many ideas in your videos, however they make the game like an evolution! It adds some new challenges.

Been playing a couple days and jsut now watched this, it's all great info and if you're new like me, use it! I've wasted more first 14 hours of gameplay server hoping for various reasons.

I guess I would also add that official ECO servers are a pretty good place to get started. Pretty good and well moderated communities with guaranteed uptime and regularly scheduled start dates. Only caveats are that Coast Redwood is pretty anarchy and White Tiger is hardcore, but Giant Panda is vanilla and Sea Otter likes to flood itself. I think the devs also wanted to eventually start promoting some trusted servers, to the point you'd be able to eventually unlock achievements on those servers as well as the official ones.

I played on dad speed about a month ago for a bit. It had a lot of players online. Plenty of trades to make. I'm not sure why people would say its dead or dying. Maybe they didn't read the info? It's meant to play slow. My laptop is a potato though. So sadly it lagged a lot when near anyone since it's such a developed world. Really great people though.

Thanks Matteo! Hopefully it will help new players sift out a server that feels right for them.

I tried joining Dadspeed last year, but the economy was basically dead, and I had no way to really get the things I needed or sell the things I made. Might be better now, but if I am going to play ECO again I am going to set up my own server for a couple of friends.

Sorry if you hit the prior Season 5 in a lull - I didn't actually join in the prior season so can't really give any further insights. Right now over the last month, we're averaging 18,000 coins traded among players every day, and that doesn't include all the government work programs, of which there are many. Good luck with you're friends!! :) ...and feel free to drop into the DadSpeed server if you feel inclined.

Before I even clicked on the video I made a bet that you would use the dadspeed server as an example. I was right of course.

Do you have any pointers or tips on joining a long standing server like that and having to start from scratch? It feels a bit intimidating compared to starting on a brand new server where everyone starts off at the same point, but I'm interested in giving it a try!

It probably depends on the server, but if it's been up a while and seem so have fairly steady player activity (even if not massive in number, but just regular), then always chat it up with the people online when you logon. They'll be able to tell you about government contracts for money, maybe what skills are needed (because people come and go on long term servers...they might of have 4 smelters 2 months ago, but are now down to 1), insights if there are transport opportunities, and things like that. It'll also give you an idea of the degree of welcoming and attention to new players. If you say hello, or ask questions over the period of several minutes and get no response, it gives some insight into what the degree of community interaction will be like (usually). You can also press "Z" and check out the profession you might be interested in, and check each individual that has taken that skill to see if they are active or not (hover of their name to see the last time they logged on), and that'll give you some info on how saturated a skill might be, and how you'll fair economically. There's probably other things, but chat and communication will probably be your biggest thing - once folks know you, they'll interact with you more in chat, with trading, and everything. Silent players tend to get overlooked...not intentionally or to be dismissive, but they just don't know you are there.

Not sure why everyone is claiming the server is dead. I feel like they never put in more than 10 minutes into the server. We usually have 10-15 people on at a time at peak hours, and I literally do not have enough time in the day to do everything I want to do in game. Theres just an endless list of things that need done, and everyone plays a role in it

My issue last time I played, which I think was spring 2021, was not that the server was dead, there were plenty of people to talk with, and it is a nice and welcoming community, but actually playing on the server was a chore. There was no market for my low level goods, and getting the resources I needed was near impossible. I was playing with a couple of friends as well, but since the rules disallow working together, we were basically each having our own single-player experience, and it just felt kinda lonely.
I'd much rather just play on a private server with my own rules where my friends and I can do something together. I love the idea of Dadspeed in theory and the community seems great, but the experience of trying to join in mid-season as a new player put me off the whole game and I have not played it since.
Perhaps I did something wrong, but to me, it felt like the restrictions that were put in place to encourage the economy to flourish did not work. And since I was not allowed to manufacture the things I required myself, and there was no market where I could buy them, my progress just stopped.

Sorry you didn't have a good experience @Cook66. I do think thought that you misunderstood the rules that actually encourage people working together and collaboration. The server rules are that all goods must be traded on the open market at fair market value so everyone has equal opportunity to buy and sell from any store - no closed loop trading that creates unfair advantages. I didn't play Season 5 that was Spring 2021 so I don't have any particular insights into what happened that season. But again, truly sorry - feel free to revisit.

The dadspeed server seems to be starting to slow down to me as most I see are AFK, tho I am trying to stick around to try and keep my shop running and helping new players

    • @Oearth

Right now, there are 25-30 active people and averaging 18,000 coins traded between players per day - it been that or more for the past 2 months. The SecretSlayer I see in game hasn't logged-in in over 35 days, only took 1 skill, and didn't progress it past the the initial level 1. Is that you? If you were struggling getting going, log and let some folks know - everyone's friendly and would be glad to help you out! :)
