Without the rest of the band Only a fraction of Trey’s magic could happen Here we see the display of the rest of the band elevating him to his rightful position This might be the greatest “guitar solo” of all time. I’m serious.
This is the only hood that just blows every other hood out of the water there is some good ones out there but this is probably the best one I’ve listened to it everyday and it’s just beautiful the audio quality is amazing as well
Blowing out of the water is pretty strong. I mean 11/22/97 esp at 15 min mark, ALO, 7/1/95 they’re my top 4 This one is definitely the dirtiest and greatest guitar solo tho
I still get a kick out of the documentary when Trey rags on The Band hanging it up after 13 years because the road was "too much for them." 35 years later and we are not only getting constant touring but also decent new music from the boys. Glad I wont't have to say I missed out on this band like I missed out on the Dead (mainly b/c i was in 8th grade in '95...)
robbertson is a primadonna the band didnt do half as many shows per year. but in those days bands who often play two shows per night early show/ late show . insane .
I was there! Just bragging. I was hassled by a Mass. state trooper after the show for holding a beer in public. He ordered me to pour it out, while 1000 others around me were also holding a beer. I gleefully wished him a happy new year while pouring it out, and retreated to my hotel room where a cooler full of beer was waiting for us. Among other things ;)
This is, and always has been, my favorite Phish jam of all time. I have the hardest time convincing any of my friends to like Phish but for the ones that I did convert, this is the jam that did the trick, hands down. Pure magic
I have tried to convert so many over the years, but with very little success, you either get it, or you dont. I just feel bad for those that dont, because it truly is one of lifes greatest pleasures, at least i feel.
Great place to start if you're new to Phish! Listen to the Reba from this same show, Divided Sky from 10/31/94, Split Open and Melt from 11/6/98, just to name a few.
It's like when someone dies and there is that deep sadness. But then you think of all of the good times and you can feel them watching down on you in all of their glory. Like a God basking in the light of transcendence.
There will never ever be anything like this musical bliss appreciate it while we can Trey has brought me and my family together music Phish is a magical place that is unlike anything else you have a bad day listen to these guys for a few minutes and u realize how beautiful the world can be
When my time comes, I want the Aldous Huxley treatment--“LSD, 100 µg, intramuscular," but also, I want this recording played. This is my true intent and it's going in the will.
Dude phish is the only band that made me laugh so hard I cried and cry so hard I laughed. That's how I describe them to the newcomers and in the darkers.
Nice one - a lost gem for sure. 1st time I saw them & couldn't believe the hurricane of sound they created. WBCN (Boston) broadcast the concert the next morning - New Year's Day - which we taped & played until the cassette wore out.
TheFoam91 I feel you my friend. I feel wicked blessed to have this recording to listen to over and over again. I was there, 4th row, Pageside, at this show when I was 17. Everytime I check in and listen to to this, it consistently is moving, in a way that is difficult to put in to words. It was tough to explain back then, when I was 17, as it is now when I'm 44, but it is the coolest F*ing thing there is. And I'm really happy to hear that it moves you to tears Everytime, because that seems about right my man. Yea, that seems about right. God, is there anything better than Phish back at this time? Nope. Next question.
This and 12/6/96 are my all time favorites, these guys have made such an amazing imprint with their music in my life. I feel so blessed and grateful for everyone and everything. Be well everyone and share in the groove :) Peace ✌
I've been looking for this version of Hood on and off for a while and this is it! I heard this version at the Spectrum sometime in the early 90's and the genius was how they take you on a journey from the "hook" chord stanza through a gradually progressing instrumental. Ten minutes later you're wondering, "wait - what song are we even listening to again?" and that's right when they bring back in hints of the key chords that remind you and finally they launch fully back into it and close it out.
7-1-95 Is my personal favorite, but its a no wrong situation. It was my first show and that hood moved me then and still makes the hair on my arms stand up now!
This is a very good hood. Any other suggestions? Years ago when Napster was a thing and it was just brand new there was a version labeled “dankest Harry hood ever” and it really was the “dankest” version I’ve ever heard. To this day I haven’t heard that hood again or been able to figure out what the data was. I think it was in the 94-96 range, I’m leaning 96. Anyone old enough to remember bootlegging everything on Napster and remember that label? Any other hoods that are unarguably In the top 4 or 5 of all time? I think if I got a list of top hoods of all time that I’d figure it out. It had the greatest peak of any hood I’ve ever heard. Trey shreds this more but I remember that hood being just absolutely beautiful and the build up and peak blending perfectly.
This is absolutely beautiful. Wow! I would love to hear a soundboard version of this. The AUD is still so sick but there has to be a soundboard somewhere……
Holy hell, this absolutely floored me. One of the most beautiful things I have ever heard. This should legitimately be in the conversation for greatest guitar solo of all time and to think, it's freaking improvised! Somehow underrated, Trey should be consensus all time Top 5 guitarist. I've been writing a Phish blog to curate some of their best work and have literally listened to hundreds of the greatest Phish jams over the last couple weeks and nothing hit me like this. I'm sure I've heard this one before, but not with the better ear for music I have now and not with my new good headphones. After so many years this band can still astonish you.
I've seen 356 shows, but not this one.I flew to Greece on 12/31/93 for a term abroad, and most certainly should have flown out on 1/1/94 out of Logan Airport! I consider 12/31/93 the best Phish show ever.
When I was first getting into Phish about 12 yrs ago, a friend lent me this show and the disc that this was on was just written "GOOD HOOD" on it. Damn was he right. Hooked from this point on...
No doubt...this song is an absolute masterpiece of a live performance. Squirming Coil off the same show(album) is also amazing. Sends emotion right through you.
Those notes!!! He used to do them often in the Hood peak, (specifically my favorite version Sugarbush '94).. Just something about them drives me to tears everytime!
Great googly moogly, how is 11:40-11:47 even possible? That’s just Trey, right? I can hear Page banging away on the piano so it’s not synth/other keyboard wizardry weaving around through there.
Best Hood ever: 11/4/90 Ram’s Club Fort Collins CO in front of like a couple hundred people in a college campus bar. Trey was sublime in this incredible Hood!

This is one of the better songs about milk that I've heard. Top 5 probably
spoiler: the other 4 are also other versions of harry hood
I'm curious what would round out the rest of your top 5.
Top 3 for me.
"Milk and cereal, milk and cereal, milk and cereal... Cereal and milk." Good other song involving milk 😂

TheFoam91 mos def! Greatest solo of all time! And we get to hear it whenever we want!!!!!!!!!! ❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️
I was there! 4 th row, Pageside
Same, tears everytime. 12/31/93 may be my favorite show...
This show has some of the best solos period check out the reba next
