    In this video we put amico c-10 from the Celadon line to the test once again. But this time we fight it against my glaze, Lumos.
    This video serves to be the final glaze test for c-10 lumos and if nothing else it serves as a great way to mix amaco glazes with some interesting combos.
    I want to give a shout out to Amoco for letting me review their glazes and letting me be honest and open with what I think the results are for the utility of homestead potters like myself. amaco glaze combos c-10.
    by the way if you missed it here is the first and second episode of this small three-part series.

    “Ooopsie doodle” that’s gotta be the best line from this whole video! Now let’s put c-10 on the shelf behind some other glazes and forget about it.

    I love the movement from Lumos! I’ll have to give it a try during my next round of glaze tests. I love Amaco glazes, but I refuse to buy C-10 because I can make just about any basic opaque white glaze for cheaper and get the exact same effects. People would rather cry and wait months for restocks before they give homemade glazes a try 🤷‍♀️

    For real though, so glad we don't have to have this conversation again. 😅

    I only use C10 (snow) as a canvas. 3 coats if brushing, it is the perfect backdrop to paint on using underglazes or oxide washes. If I use my dipping glaze it is somewhat powdery so difficult to paint on but C-10 once applied is perfectly dry and does not budge. It draws the underglazes in so they too are glassy

    One thing I have to say for C-10 is it's consistent. Sure, it's a one-trick pony, but if that's the effect you're looking for at least you'll know you will get it over seemingly any glaze. The Lumos offers too much variation to give the same guarantee (though that's also it's strength), say to a Pride rainbow set of cups tied together with the white oil spot effect on top.

    I would love for you to do an ancient copper video. But Ancient Copper at different cones, holds and cooling. Ancient copper changes a lot depending on how it's fired. For me Ancient Copper is best at medium 6 cone, top shelf near the element, 10 minute hold at the top and then turn of the vent (don't open the peep holes either) let it cool naturally down to 150F. When I fire ancient copper this way I get beautiful crystal effects. I prefer using Ancient Copper as a single glaze it doesn't layer well for me. I'll give you credit for testing snow all these different times. I'm bummed because I've been trying to find snow and Alpha hasn't had it when I had been there so you took my bottle of snow and now I'm sad. 🤣😂 It's okay because I really want to try making my own glazes and Lumos might be the first one I try. It is stunning over cosmic tea dust. I didn't like snow over cosmic tea dust. That snow fall texture your Lumos glaze gets over cosmic tea dust is just gorgeous it makes me understand why your don't like snow. You don't need snow you have Lumos.

    More of a technique question: I've used dip/bucket glazes my whole time and am just starting to try commercial brush on glazes for some non-studio color options...does pouring in/dumping out go on pieces too thick? Or do you do anything to jar glazes for dipping/pouring, or is it straight from the jar as is, as made?

      Im no expert but from what i have seen and what Dante has said the bottle glazes have filler in them to kssp the ingredients in solution. Pooring on the bottel glaze is like 1 or two heave coats of dip and poor glazes.

    I think the thing with c10 is that if you only buy brush on glazes, anything that oil spots is super rare and exciting. That said… looking at those tests, I guess I am finally going to have a bash at this whole making glazes malarkey. It is time. Is Lumos a good one to try first do you think?I loved your tenmoku gold pieces too, but that seems a bit trickier on application and firing? Thanks as ever for the inspiration and keep well.

    • @EarthNationCeramics

      I would suggest making a clear and learning to weigh out your water as an ingredient so you know the gravity of your glaze before trying the more complicated ones like tenmoku gold or Lumos.

    I want to start using the pouring method for glazes, usually for the outside, I already pour my glazes for the inside. What bucket do you recommend I get. Will the glaze stick to the inside? I want to conserve as much excess glaze as possible.

    • @EarthNationCeramics

      If you're going to pour you should just do it straight from the bottle but if you are going to dip with tongs you want a 5 gallon bucket from Lowe's or any hardware store.

    I've done a mass test of snow under a variety of glazes and it definitely also displays other behavior - subtle cracking under Seaweed, Chun Plum, and some other celadon glazes, texturing with Shino glazes, and no interaction with some other celadon glazes. Maybe your testing method needs revision?

      Naw. It's just. Lear. It the C line from amaco is able to "mix" with other glazes.
      But no one does that. Most devices use them as a base.
      The only one that's really good at fixing other glazes or later it seems to be c-10.
      Most of the others are just a clear base with a single colorant

    • @EarthNationCeramics
      @EarthNationCeramics  2 роки тому +4

      I think your thinking of C-11 which says on the bottle "mixing glaze"
      Alternatively you can mix any of the Celadons from the amaco line.
      I think they have a test tiles on the website for the specific scenario as well.
      I had a small campaign showing people how to do so.

    • @sondrabecchetti4612
      @sondrabecchetti4612 2 роки тому +3

      @@EarthNationCeramics The mixing clear is also used to make the Celadons more transparent and you can also use it as a clear glaze. I'm not confusing it with Snow which is to lighten a Celadon. I know you can mix all of the Celadons together for custom colors and the Snow would allow even more choices in making custom colors. I've also seen others put a Celadon (Storm I think) OVER the Snow and get an oil spot effect that looked pretty good.

      @@sondrabecchetti4612 even if it's not meant to be used that way it seems like people are only using it as a topper glaze and not a mixing glaze.
      Done three separate episodes on this glaze where I mix them, layered them different ways with different glazes. I did everything but mix the actual liquid together.
      This seems to be the most popular way that people want me to use it 🤷‍♂️
