Knightly Routine is now on steam!!! Go wishlist it!!! store.steampowered.com/app/2290880/Knightly_Routine/
for a fifth weapon u could add a super powerful ranged weapon: the gun. it woud work as a rifle but it would fire eepy time darts and would have an explosive effect in the barrel(to explain why theres a gun in medieval times) and it would probably take a long time to reload as a debuff... btw if u already have a cannon in the game, why not add a mini-cannon(RIFLE) edit: i was making this JUST as u wer talking about leaving an idea... so i didnt notice ur mention of upgrading ur weapons... new idea: lvl one could be a handgun lvl two could be a rifle and lvl three could be a gatling gun made of bamboo for barrels
Crossbow
Woah!
Don't you dare stop making this. I'll be popping back in next video to make sure this game comes to fruition.
i agree, got me hooked at 4.28, that was soo nice to see.
I feel like this game would actually be one of the most fun indie games out there
Super cute game with good animations and weapons + building AND PANDAS?? Take my money.
(Idk if someone suggested this but, maybe you can make stronger enemies and other types of bears, or red pandas maybe?)
How about a scythe for your fifth weapon? It could add some bonus points on soul collection, also it would look really cool, like a melee weapon with a circular damage area (you could have a really cool swing/rotate animation with the fanciest version emitting some kind of dark soul magic?
Games looking adorable by the way
The problem I have with the scythe is that it is too similar to the boomeraxe
Your current weapons kinda hit all the marks
Sword - single target, melee
Bow - single target, ranged
Boomeraxe - crown control, ranged
Hammer- AOE, melee
The 5th weapon could be a Bamboo Mortar,
You mark a location for it to fire, then after a few seconds it strikes dealing explosive damage in an AOE.
Predicting enemy movement to hit the mortar shot, or just using a Hammer to push them into it would be key.
5th weapon could be a flute or a didgeridoo that enthralls cursed pandas to fight for you. Each upgrade increases its effective range, duration, and minion count.
I think for the third Mallet it would be so sick if you make the cylinders spin
You could have a bomb that you throw to deal with larger groups of faraway enemies, but perhaps it is harder to acquire? I was thinking about what item would be cool to see in the Knightly Routine style as well, because it is epic! It is clear to see the amount of work put into this project and I sure hope that I can wishlist it soon!
I think it would be really fun and fit with the theme to throw pandas at each other. Maybe a whip like weapon that allows you to pick up an enemy and hurl them around??
or a lasso
or a fishing rod like isabelle in smash lmao
or something like a kusarigama (sickle and chain). hurling enemies into each other with it would definitely be fun. you could also use it to grab enemies and pull them toward you so you can finish them off with melee strikes. AND it could possibly be used sort of like a hookshot for additional movement/climbing options.
Love this
dude it cannot be understated how good you are at animating
I literally cannot wait for this game to come out! It is unique in it's own way!
For an enchanting system, you could make something like a pool or a fountain that you soak in, which takes all of your experience and gives you random enchantments to everything you're wearing or holding, and obviously the enchantments are better depending on how much experience you have when you go to soak. Could be a fast-paced way to enchant while fighting the pandas, and you also wouldn't have to do a whole lot of UI this way (I think). Might be cool but then again who knows if it would fit the vibe of the game. Great job so far though :)
This is easily the best devlog I’ve ever watched
One of my fav weapons in the entire Zelda series is ball + chain in twilight princess. It's so ridiculous, but so unique and fun. You first swing it around your head and damage enemies in a small circle around you, and then throw it to damage a distance in front of you based on how long you spent spinning it up. I feel like something like that would fit really well in your game.
the ideas that people can come up with are endless for a game like this, good luck with this imma stay tuned for sure. wish you only growth and success
It's cool and wholesome that you and your sister work together through commissioning her art
You should use raycasting(UE Line Trace) to detect hit detection for the arrow's.
You cast a raycasting(UE Line Trace) from last frame position to current frame position.
you need to add enemies coming down off the cliffs with parachutes and hang gliders. not only would it be super cool and funny to see those little things launch an air assault, but it also gives a need for the bow
I really like your ideas! The weapons all seem cool, the fifth weapon could be a grappling hook, you would be able to shoot it at enemies and bring them to you or the other way around, you would be able to attract (I don’t know if it’s the right word, my English isn’t quite the best) yourself to the enemy, or maybe you would be able to use the hook on surrounding for example you could grapple yourself to a tree. With its upgrades it’s range could get higher and when you bring the enemy to you the damage they get would be higher. Lots of people are saying about enchantment system, but I think that there could be elemental effects added to a weapon, that would make the enemies restive different effects after an attack for example: fire element on a sword would make enemies go on fire, earth element on a hammer would stun the enemies and so on and so on, I really wish you luck with the game, have a great day
This video is incredible! Your passion for game design and development shines through in every second of footage, and I couldn't help but feel inspired by your work. After watching this, I was inspired to create my own game, and I'm proud to say that it's been a huge success. I owe it all to you and your amazing work. Thank you so much for sharing your talent with the world!
WOOOOOO was waiting for more of this!!!
"Now that I'm behind schedule" ain't that a developer mood.
Hope to hear about steam page soon!
Has anyone mentioned a throwable dagger? One that maybe does more damage up-close, but doesn't have the range of using the bow? I was also thinking maybe a defensive weapon like a smoke bomb also.
Your animations are insanely good!
Holy shit, this looks incredible. Not to mention the name being absolutely genius
The weapons are great! I think adding different enemy types that are weak or immune to weapons would be sick. Like armored enemies immune to bow or heavy ones immune to hammer knock back. Would add a whole new layer of strategy and give the weapons more impact. Would also be cool progression wise as you introduce a new enemy you give the player a counter weapon to work towards.
I can’t wait to 360 no scope some evil pandas
i cant WAIT to see more of this game's development and improvement !! my idea for a fifth weapon is a blowgun, i think it could be a pretty unique adding to the rest of the weapons; maybe for the first level, you could have a wooden blowpipe which shoots little pebbles, i dont think of it as a very powerful first weapon but once you start upgrading it, maybe it could shoot darts or even poisonous darts! which would make up for a good reason to add potion crafting to the game, i've seen more people asking for it. i hope you like my idea, keep up the good work
So happy this was recommended to me. Makes me super happy to see someone put real love into a game. Will definitely wishlist when the steam page is up 🦈
You could also make held items lag behind the camera movement a little bit, some form of smoothing.
I'd imagine it'd help make some items "feel" a bit heavier than others.
Probably annoying if too much though.
I love that your sister is making the cover art lol. Good family :)
That axe feels so nice, I wanna play now!
Regarding the another weapon, maybe you can add something that's also ranged... I was thinking something with higher kill/defence partition but less control unlike your bow and arrow. Maybe a throwable bomb would be good and it can take a couple of seconds to explode (that's the part that kind of takes away the control you have), or a throwable potion that spawns a pool of whatever that lasts a few seconds :D and if your enemies walk in, they take damage :D Idk, great game, great content, I support 10/10 would recommend to my frenz :)
You should add a shield if you're going for a medieval game, or maybe even a wizard staff.
Maybe the fifth weapon could be a shield? Perhaps with a bash that pushes enemies back?
Your videos quality is on top! I can't wait for more videos when you'll have time, I'm trying to develop my own games and I love you!
Love the different weapons evolutions, it looks really cool in your artstyle.
you should make a left handed mode, its something that most first person games are missing and it always feels weird to me to see weapons on my off hand
Bro this game already looks FIRE
I jus wanna say this is my favorite dev log series and I am now watching these instead of actually learning how to make games. Worth it tho
An obvious pick for a new weapon would be a crossbow but based on the axe that seems boring so instead, something like that germen youtuber made that is a fully automatic mag fed crossbow or something along that design. Maybe tier 1 is regular cross bow which eventually turns into the fully automatic one.
A Glaive, sword staff, or something of that type could also be a cool weapon. High damage, long range, and slow attack speed. To give them an interesting twist perhaps some sort of movement mechanic can be added in like a pole vault/jump style movement that can be done.
Duel Daggers. Short range fast attacks and maybe you can have the off hand throw daggers while the main hand stabs. Probably give it some sort of unique mechanic to not feel like sword+bow, like maybe the knife has strong drop off and maybe you have to go pick them up.
Shield. Would be weird but cool as a weapon. You could reskin it to something funny, perhaps having it be a helmet or frying pan or anything you can come up with. Maybe you can dash around with the shield in front of you to do a shield bash sort of attack that doubles again as a cool movement mechanic. and obviously reduce damage while the shield is up.
If you want to enter more fantasy realm type stuff you could go with a wand/staff/grimoire as well.
I think satisfying movement is a major point in how much I enjoy a game on top of a sense of progression so working towards both of those aspects further would improve the game from the eyes of me as an unknowing consumer.
You should add elemental fuses similar to blade and sorcery, but it can unlock new areas. For example, water weapon can cool down a burning bush and rock bow can hit pressure plates in a rhythm to open a large tomb. Please consider.
I think a flail could be a pretty cool weapon to add. It could take out a few enemies at close range with a sweeping animation or perhaps it could make it easy for a player to make several kills in succession because of the momentum of the swinging ball?
It may be too much work for something almost no one is gonna notice, but I think it shows how much love you put into your game. I'm talking about realism. Imagine you're creating weapons and a professional in that weapon, let's say a bow, makes a video "analysing bows in games". It would be cool if he said your is a 10/10. The movement is right and etc.
You should add durability to your weapons as a balancing factor. Like, you're slamming a hammer on the ground, it should break with time.
Speaking of your weapons, there should be a lore to how you can carry so many weapons. I suggest that there should be a magic tower (that you unlock, but I'll talk about it later) that has a mage or a magic ritual stone that shrinks you weapons. So after you shrunk them, you can carry more. Think about the Percy Jackson sword. You grab it little and them it expands in your hand.
For the progression, you should add more islands that are filled with corruption and you have to go there and clean it, but they are progressively harder. It opens the doors to many possibilities.
Soul Knight (a phone game) has this story mode where creatures are attacking a base and you go conquering the places where they come from.
This is the best thing i seen today, imagine having ur breakfast and enjoying the creativity of others in game developing. This is Amazing!!
There is one thing i would love to see in the future, if you could. Same video as this, but if u eventually make a Ground Slam after effect on the 3rd Hammer ' The Tenderizer ' that would be so cool and the quick way you showed in blender with modeling, animation.
So when the hammer hits, it shatters a small piece of the ground and breaks it apart, not to big or any extra dmg on the hammer. Just solely the extra effect as someone mentioned on discord feedback and could be a toggle on or off , in-case someone prefers to not have the effect on.
That would be so cool, that will make it a more interesting into getting ' The Tenderizer'
In my view at-least i love effects!
Have a good day ! keep it up.
When you are ready to release it at Steam, let us all know.
At least for me i would buy this for 10 $,
Some will disagree, but i think as of this state, it is worth the fun.
You can always bring in more core stuff and improvements in the future
i just discovered your work and wow, this game looks amazing, the game design and your animations are really cool !
I also have some ideas about the weapons :
-Regarding The Boomeraxe, i think if the arm with the axe spinned when you're attacking, it would look better.
-Then, about the tier 3 bow, i think it should have specific arrows that only this one could have such as : some kind of mystic arrows wich would deal a little area damage, or, the same arrows but wich would gives you 2x souls when killing an ennemy.
-Finally, maybe some special abilities for tier 3 weapons like those i talked about (the arrows tier 3) but, i'm not really sure of this idea, it could be completely broken ig.
I hope these ideas will be helpful and i'm absolutely looking forward to seeing the next devlog about this game.
Awesome vid! Can't wait to play
To fit with the theme of pandas, maybe a bamboo blow dart weapon? This could incoporate poison or something as an effect to deal extra damage.
Another idea could be a sticky bomb! This could go alongside the defense items for around the castle like the mortar that shoots molasses to slow the pandas down, but also as an item you can use manually. You could put the sticky bomb in the catapult or cannon and it will explode molasses or be covered in it ans it will stick to surfaces or the evil pandas.
These are just some ideas. Good job on the game, it looks great so far! Can't wait to see more devlogs! 😊
To add more meaning and intricacy to each weapon you could make traps that would go on the ceilings of your base and you have to hit the panda's up into the traps with your hammer. The bow could activate traps by hitting a button with the arrow too, while the traps still work based off of a timer like a normal Tower Defense. It'd be an interesting concept to add some more flair to each weapon without adding to the weapon itself. Keeping that simplicity while also giving players more freedom for the way to build the level and could create even more fun and interesting base designs.
5th Weapon: Since you don't have a Movement based Weapon included yet how about a Harpoon-Spear that pulls you in like a Grappling Hook? Could make some really fun Gameplay and has a Unique Niche
Love it buddy and you as well you seem like a real cool guy. For a weapon idea I was thinking (prob bad af but...) maybe a bomb and when it detonates you catch a piece of it's fragment mid air and it expands to a new one? Will def wishlist this on steam dude keep up the work!!
I feel like enchantments could be cool upgrades to weapons to give you more uniqueness to each playthrough, like having damage over time for fire, slows/stuns for ice and chain damage for lightning, etc. Idk I've always just preferred build crafting over flat upgrades. cool game though very cute
This is great! I'll be following along friend, certainly giving me inspiration for my own title 😊✌️
Loving the originality!! Really looking forward for more devlogs on this!
But when you show the game ar night time it looks a little to dark, se can barely ser the details on the wepons or enemys.. but i bet you already have some sort of sollution um mind for the lighting effects até night! Keep up the good work! ❤️
in order to get the axe you should get a quest or something to chop wood using it, and when it breaks on the first hit the npc who gave it to you is just like "oh well, I guess it's yours now"
and/or when you get it the game just says "press [button] to drop useless trash" and then it comes back and it's epic
I love this game, and youre videos. Keep at it 😎, btw, a cool idea for the game could be some type of turret, idk know if that breaks some game consept but I think it could be a good addition. Any how fantastic job!
For the fifth weapon it could be a magical staff. It could strike lightning at the point on the ground you are looking at. Or create an area that restores life, or slows down enemies. Or create a non-climbable obstacle that you can use to block enemy projectiles.
Flimsy bow should definitely have a couple of small branches and leaves sticking out!
Great content and super cool game btw!
5th weapon i feel like duel wielding nun chucks would make sense and fit the theme of the game.
It would be awesome to have a "hammer jump" similar to how you can shotgun jump in devil daggers!
Just a crazy idea, but a hammer jump would be really cool
Damn I really wanna play this game, it looks so cool!
I think the crystal bow should be some kind of legendary 4th and final version of the bow. Since it looks a bit odd and maybe too special especially compared to the other weapons which were just gold red and wood.
Good stuff!
DUDE! Just found your channel and already subbed. Please bring this game into the world (and try to port it for mac please). I love the aesthetic! Amazing job!!
Good work! Since it's a fantasy game, you could add some spell book as a weapon. You could even make many of them, every casting different spell. Also I think somewhere in development you should add arms to you character. You can just use inverse kinematics and attach targets to where weapon should be held. Still, it can always easily be disabled for those who don't like them.
you should make the mallet yeet you backwards in the air like a rocket launcher would increasing in yeet-power every tier!
i personaly always love faster passed melee weapons in games like this, say a dagger for example. only problem being it might be hard to convey to a new player that a dagger and the sword have diferent play styles. it might be better to add duelwhielded daggers, or a dagger and sickel. something that clearly shows the player that there is a clear diference from the sword. not to mention i bet with how your animating these weapons, you could have a lot of fun making the attack and inspect animations for dual weapons. i also think a dodge attack would fit the weapon well, like if the player makes a wide slash with one weapon before darting in the other direction. might not translate well to a firstperson perspective but thought id recomend anyways.
loving how the game is coming along, looking forward to seeing update videos :)
Looking good!
Also I think the hammer shouldn’t do an area around the player but rather more in front of the player and a little bit around. Because, with the current hammer you could just stand next to the king and keep slamming the ground (without pointing in a specific direction) over and over meaning no evil panda’s could ever get to him. Or you could change it so that the hammer can’t be used near the king because it would wake him up (this would be a bit annoying in some cases tough)
That intro, lol. For a 5th weapon, how about something you can throw, like a glass bottle. Maybe something that freezes enemies, or burns them etc.
a skull that shoots fireballs and a magic book that shoots fire eyes with a blue fire and a magic fish that gives you health
it looks so good it makes me want to get the game
less goo i made it into the video at 4:50
the fifth weapon you could add could be books of spells where there would be different colored books with each one casting a different spell or maybe some kind of throwable potion with different colored potions having different effects
04:08 You have no idea how much I wish I could make those particles for you X)
nice intro it looks so cool
I love this so much I'm so excited. Here's an idea. I love making my bases and stuff very cutesy, could you possible add some cutesy maybe panda themed weapons and building materials? It could be a late game item, maybe the strongest items are panda themed and sort of silly. Like a giant push mallet with a panda face that squeaks when you hit someone with it.
Maybe the shop could have custom sounds you could buy with soul.
I think a magic staff would make a really cool weapon. Other ideas: spear, blowgun, shield, scythe, or fists (like kung fu (kung fu panda)).
If you're still looking for some recommendations on making the weapons more fun, I suggest adding an ability to them with each weapon level upgrade or for the final tier. Having a cool new ability to work with is way more satisfying than just stat boosts.
A mace that explode the little spike out in every direction or a chain mace that swing around but still have the function as the spike can explode at same time or the effect of stunting if the chain hit which would be anything in the middle of the player and the mace tip
Great video, for the arrow detection. I do a trace starting at the previous frame location that ends at the current frames location and that seems to work for most projectiles. I'm not sure on it's optimization though.
A flail could be fun, maybe like a charge attack while you're spinning it around or something idk but that broken axe animation turned out awesome
For a 5th Weapon.. Something that drops an AOE Puddle to the ground.. like.. burning oil.. toxic waste.. a bunch of kittens so cute it kills..
Maybe spear could be your 5th weapon, stab and throw / pickup.
Shouldn't be too much work to make a stick either ^^
wow that is pretty cool
You should add a rail gun type of weapon where you shoot or throw something and it leaves a trail of fire or goes underground or something like that. Also add glowy things to the environment for the night time and maybe an excavate tool which works as a tool in the building mode where you can dig a chunck and then build in the underground space and maybe find a special ore to harvest and upgrade weapons.
So cool!
A whip or flail that pulls enemies in, so you can combo with other weapons. Can serve as grappling hook too
i am incredibly late to the party but was thinking about when you mentioned the whispy effects around the bow, I thought of a magical circle to go just in front of the sight window (similar to the magical circle one Doctor Strange creates.) It would be similar to a crosshair of a weapon but a larger circle rather than a smaller one. I dunno just thought of it while really enjoying your content :)
That animation was clean
For weapon ideas I think you need a musket or something like that it should be able to go trough multiple enemies but in turn have a long reload time or something along those lines in any case it would be cool to have a firearm of some kind .
You should add a charge with the axe and for every level, you can charge it one extra level so it can travel either faster longer or harder. I really like this game and I think it's gonna be really cool.
A spear/javalin, it can be thrown like a single use high damage arrow or stabbed with high ranged damage but requires accuracy.
5th Weapon Idea - A spear that doubles as a hook shot. You can grapple to static meshes and swing around the map a bit, or grapple and pull enemies towards you.
I feel like the final tier of axe should be a single piece instead of two pieces nailed together (to show some sort of progression of "oops i accidentally broke my axe at specifically 90 degrees" to "i nailed together these pieces so they stay at 90 degrees" and finally going to "I forged the axe at 90 degrees to make it as strong as possible")
People like you motivate me to keep 9n deving yoo haha
I think a cool weapon would be a mace! You can swing it around in a circle to knock back enemies if your getting overwhelmed
I think it would be funny if the king penguin woke up during the day time and just peacefully walked around. And his dialogue was him being offended that you're so tense because he thinks the world is so peaceful
I think a weapon that would fit the game super well is a spear that you can throw in a straight line, hitting multiple enemies at once, the catch? (pun intended) is that you need to go and retrieve it manually
You should make a spear or trident weapon. You could also add a shield.
