  • The world of Cloudpunk is, like all good cyberpunk worlds, a world of Bright Lights and Dark Secrets, and following Rania through her first night in a new city, we can experience all that Nivalis has to offer.

As a die hard Cyberpunk 2077 fan, I can say that Cloudpunk really captured my imagination and is one of the best companion games I have for CP77. I can't wait for Nivalis (yes it's the name of the city in Cloudpunk), a standalone game from the same devs that is being marketed as a life-simulator in a cyberpunk world. This genre is so good. I hope you'll make a video on ANNO: Mutationem as well.

I love cloudpunk, I played it about a month ago and fell in love with the mechanics, the driving and the story of Nivalis. Best of all they're making a second game set in the city!

I Cannot WAIT for Nivalis. Absolutely delighted to see this developer make more games in this world.

No game ever made me FEEL better. And I would be hard-pressed to find any work of art (yes, work of art) that rivals the pure joy it gave me.

Now that you said it, cyberpunk worlds often place some kind of focus on the sky. Neuromancer famously starts with it, but even Cyberpunk's some iterations, like Cyberpunk Red the ttrpg is named after the bright red sky dominating the scenery. I've read a good deal of indie cyberpunk (or other scifi *insert word here*-punk) books, and most of them also note how the sky is somehow different, more alien and neferious almost. Briar Ripley Page's Body After Body (which is more biopunk I guess) starts with the maincharacter looking at the stars and wondering about the rich people who escaped there. Cloud Atlas' cyberpunk story remarks how there are giant ads on the moon every night, and how it would be scary not to see them always up there.
    It's a nice connecting detail

this feels so weird, because right before I watched this video I was playing control and watched the jacob geller video about haunted houses. What a weird coincidence.

I honestly never realized that it is all meant to take place in one night... I mean it's always night in the game, I haven't played it through to the end and I think it was over a year ago since i played it, but i thought that was just the game world being overcast with polluted clouds and maybe deep in theearth (the city has a LOT of vertical depth so i assumed it was just like in a deep hole in the ground or from the city being the only light upwards) also i wasn't clear if it was even on earth, or if it was the moon or mars or if it is earth if it had been reshaped (like actually reshaped, not just had the tiniest scratches like IRL 2024), I mean with digging out parts of it launching them into orbit or digging into he mantle and living there but within an environment that mimics real weather shield
I feel a bit mixed about cloudpunk I want to love it for it's very realistic service worker's perspective and there are some fun and interesting deliveries, and i do like the general idea of the game as a cyberpunk city uber driver... it's a good way to do a story i do not like the voxel style at all though, but i also don't care about that too much.
What i don't like is that it feel it's a bit preachy, like "look the struggles of the common working man (or woman in this case)"... but it's a bit heavy handed and nagging... i want to say "No shit, i know! I too work one of those jobs and have done this for most of my adult life, I get the point! i'm on your side! Stop blasting me with this!" but they keep hammering this to the point that makes too long and it's a bit insulting, i don't think the people who'd play such a game are that stupid..

very much agree! while my play through was years ago before first person was an ootion, i feel like the setting of a city run by a mad AI who was making obviously insane ideas (like an escalator to nowhere) and the structure is actively having large chunks fall from time to time was all undermined by the rambling of the protagonist.
even worse was the times when you got to a place and just were stuck listening to some of it.
overall a great game with great atmosphere that was just a bit to preachy and sadly had no post game content (at least when i played it)

i finished cloudpunk and its DLC (which is honestly more like an entire second game if you ask me) in like 2021 and it's on my list of favourites
watching this video was insane because before there was any mention off the sounds and the music, it rushed back to me as if i was playing again for myself
(and then you went on to mention haven briefly, your tastes are insane)

Camus is, I presume, named after Alfred Camus (it’s pronounced correctly Cam-oo). He’s the guy who wrote the “one must imagine Sisyphus happy” line in an essay and was a big proponent of absurdism. The belief that accepting the absurdity of searching for meaning in a world devoid of it and that really doesn’t care about us is the first step to doing anything meaningful at all. May have interesting implications on the meaning of Cloudpunk’s narrative but I’m not sure.

I remember playing the first game on a rainy day deep into the night and I think that added to the immersion because I loved the atmosphere then. But I definitely agree with everything you said. The game is a very good home cooked meal.

I can't decide if I prefer Cloudpunk's sky or Sea of Thieves' water. Considering Rare made the correct choice to limit server size so their sea kept looking good, that's high praise.

It's a visual novel, but I've always felt like NeoCab was a precursor to Cloudpunk, probably because of the similar situation (only instead of a delivery system, you're essentially an Uber version of Delamain).

when i played Cloudpunk a while ago first person view wasn't an option, but i loved the gameplay and enjoyed the story.
though the voices tended to ramble a bit when even my quick but casual had me waiting for it to wrap up.
i also wish there was more packages to deliver after the story, so i could have just kept flying around the city, they may have added that now, i don't know.

I like that in cloud punk u act a lot more like gandalfs version of a hero, the everyday little things that people do, we’re not taking down the corporations and we’re not getting rid of corruption but we did save three people in a dying city and there may be a thousand dead but you saved some from it

I had this game installed in my PS5 for a while and this made me want to finally give it a try, but it looks nothing like this. The city looks way more empty and dull, and the sky is just grey and flat, no clouds or lights like in this video. I suppose it was poorly ported to console? Well I'm still gonna give it a shot, but I was a bit disappointed.

Good video but sorry I keep getting distracted by the character portraits.
They kinda look AI generated, but I’m a little sleep deprived at the moment sooo. Pretty sure it’s just the mixed media making it stand out more, and my cynical world view…

    • @raldrid8264
      @raldrid8264 4 місяці тому +2

The character portraits in game? I think it's just a stylised portrait because the game came out before AI art was really popular. It was probably created in that way that it's the most human looking element while also not looking human
