Victory legacy has been used to make bigger bore touring V twin. Liquid cooled V twin seems make the touring machine category more engineering advanced which offer more comfort and power in long distance riding.
This is a great looking bike! I've noticed every positive comment about it has HD loyalists trying to disprove the comment like subjectivity couldn't possibly exist it's HD or nothing. What's up with that can't you guys even admit this bike is beautiful and well engineered? I say that taking nothing away from the Roadglide, it's still a nice bike also. I think what you trolls are missing here is that this is meant to compete with the likes of Yamaha Eluder and the H Goldwing. Sorry but this has moved way past HD level.
It's a nice bike but at 27k is it better than a Honda or Kawasaki? If it's just slightly better than the Harley is it the most competitive bike they could have offered?
Nice bike.. only thing in common with hd is bagger style .. with fixed fairing bike.. otherwise wow!! Indian hits the mark head and shoulders above the rest..
Nice looking Indian and great to see them embracing water cooled engine technology. BMW also builds a pretty bad ass Bagger too. The K1600B. 160hp/129 ft-lbs of torque.
Wow, 30 more HP stock than the Harley and on par with the Goldwing. Impressive. Imagine how far this can go with tuning and performance enhancements. Close to the Triumph Rocket 3 @ 163HP?
@@ericx7476 Yes, you're right, 11 more HP that the H-D CVO, the article states; "When we put the Challenger on Jett Tuning’s dyno, its belt-driven rear wheel cranked out 113.3 lb-ft of torque at 3,500 rpm and 107.6 horsepower at 5,600 rpm, with redline at 6,500 rpm. That unseats the previous king of torque among V-twin tourers we’ve tested, the Yamaha Star Venture (110.9 lb-ft of torque, 75.9 horsepower), as well as the top-of-the-line Harley-Davidson CVO Limited (110.0 lb-ft of torque, 96.0 horsepower). The Challenger’s broad mountain of rear-wheel torque tops 100 lb-ft from 2,400 to 5,600 rpm, and its horsepower curve increases steadily from 2,000 rpm to its peak."
I owned a road glide and one thing that was not mentioned is the 122hp the Challenger has. A standard road glide special is 90hp. That is a 32hp difference and while they probably have enough HP to get you to 70mph, that extra 32hp will come in handy when passing. Not to mention a water cooled engine. Was stuck in traffic on my road glide and ended up with blisters on the inside of my leg! hopefully this won't happen with the water cooled engine. Just something for me to consider. Not to mention the ride control! That is technology for the good!
I was sold on Victory after riding Road Glides and Street Glides, this Challenger is a better bike then the Road Glide with price and power for the entry level model. Harley has been living off its old looking Street Glide and even the 5 year old Road Glide.
As a mechanic my only gripe with the Victory and Indian bikes is that the transmission is internal to the engine case. What that means is if the transmission EVER needs servicing you're splitting the cases to gain access to it and that's gonna be very expensive. Harley Davidson has managed to keep theirs separated from the engine and no "splitting of the cases" is required to gain access to the gearbox. Might not be a big deal to most people but I like my stuff separated.
Been a HD loyalist for 40 years. Man, never thought I would consider another brand. But this bike is super cool. If you haven’t taken one for test ride you have to. Very comfortable, performed beautifully.
It's nice but I don't want the hassles and extra maintenance of liquid cooled engines.. and how much power do you need cruising down a highway at 80-90 mph?
The name says it all, and is perfect for this bike. I like the liquid cooling, and the self adjusting valve tensioners, means more riding/less/lower cost maintenance. It is my favorite aspect of the engine in my '05 Vulcan (76k no valve issues, ever). I love the Harley Road and Street Glides, but this will be my first American bike
Nice to see a real American motorcycle again. Ever since the last American bike, the Goldwing, moved back to Japan in 2015, all we have had is the Curry burner China bikes, aka, Harleys. If i wanted a chinese bike I would buy one. This is a huge step forward. Real shock set up, upside down forms, hydrolic adjustment, liquid cooling. Now put this in a touring bike and I am all in.
I like it. I wish it had a rear top box for touring. I have a Goldwing which is a great bike but the dash on the new one looks a bit goofy. The Indian is like a Harley but good.
15 HD Ultra Limited owner here, I'v been unhappy with HD for a long time I've been hot for an Indian Roadmaster but this Challenger looks awesome. So I will finishing riding my bike until its the right time to move to Indian.
I ride a 2018 Scout. It's my first road bike and I love it. I have a few upgrades on it and other than trying to tame the wind/buffeting, the bike has been pretty much flawless. I've been an Indian fan since I was in HS. I had one of the Italian-made Indian MX bikes and have been a fan ever since. I've been looking at the the Springfield and chomping at the bit to get one. However, after seeing the Challenger, I may change my strategy. The base Challenger is only $1k more than the two-tone Springfield, and you get much more bike, in my opinion. If you look past the fairing, this bike is NOTHING like a RG. I'm amazed at how people reduce a motorcycle to a cosmetic detail, calling it a, "rip-off". I've looked at pictures of the the fairings side-by-side and they're nothing alike. The RG is a about as simple of a design as you can get, with virtually no, "lines" or details designed in. The Indian has some sharp, modern looking lines built-in, making it look like they actually spent some time creating something that was nice to look at. The RG is a simple, flattened out bowl. But, if you still think the fairing is a rip-off, that's where it ends. Period. You can't go any further than that. Everything else about the Challenger is different and better. If you put the two side-by-side and had to buy one or the other, I can't think of one reason a person would go with the RG. Indian has a winner on it's hands. I hope they can keep up with production demands!
On the topic of being a re-purposed Victory engine....the scout was originally built to be used in the Victory Octane, but it was used for the Indian Scout lineup instead. The Octane was delayed and brought out later on.
Owned two victories and many Harleys, both have a lot to offer. Can't compare an Indian to a Harley. You can compare an Indian to a gold wing. Harley has history and that's what your riding. Modern history!!
Nice video again! Decent info and professionally presented! I like the look of the Indian more than the Road Glide. Looks nicer and more modern. Love the front! Try filtering that in London traffic. That would be a challenge(r) 😝and a great video! Cheeers!
If you compare it to Indian's other models, in terms of design, looks, features, mechanicals and performance its a big improvement. What I'm not sure of, is why in doing so they had to base it so closely on the RoadGlide.
Its the only way you can do a fixed fairing. Make it square, round, triangle. Only so many styles of a fixed fairing. Japanese and BMW companies been doing it for yrs. Im not a fan of this square/round front look but it definitely is a game changer as a whole. And its priced cheaper than Harley. I will keep my StreetGlide for a couple more yrs. Hope she treats me good until my next bike.
The Scout was released before the Octane. However, the liquid cooled motor had been designed and patented by Victory almost 5 years before the Scout was released. It may have been initially targeted for a cafe racer type bike (Like Victory's project 156 race bike that used that motor) but ended up being the heart of the new Scout. Indian is certainly on point with their designs.
What is it about HD that people have a problem with? is it what some have said about arrogance or is it more like "trust" with the product and service? I chose the Indian Springfield rather than the Road King and I love my bike 45000KM later, however, there is a pull I feel about HD and I just may decide on the HD Ultra Limited in 2020. Owning both might be the best answer!
@@rocky081991 Great idea and yes I will plan on taking many test rides for sure before making a decision. Thanks Hoping April 2020 comes quickly, or I may have to move south!
Indian Motorcycle! This is something quite different from Road Glide - and I can't help but understand that this motorcycle must be a dream machine V-Twin tourer from the future - Love it, can not wait to ride it!
I reaaalllly like the look of it and the design overall. I hope they have one at motorcycle live to have a sit on. I have loved the chieftain dark horse since they came out but I think I'd go for this one first if I'm honest - when I win the lotto of course. It's awesome to see Indian keep consistently putting out great bikes, I've done test ride videos on the Scout and a Roadmaster and was consistently impressed. If this engine is in any way comparable to the Scout's they're on to a winner. Greet video!

This bike rocks the bagger world with the new engine and power to weight ratio ... I just need to ride one. I believe if you ride one you will own one.
Thank you for the content I just have not been able to see enough of the Challenger. I think the Challenger is going to bring back the Duel of Harley and Indian to the Glory Days.
Massive departure from the previous model, which from the start retained the flathead "look" of the last 1953 models. So, that initial nod to tradition gets sent off with liquid cooling, and contemporary fenders. Lots of plastic and blocky body panels, as well as saddlebags you could cook your lunch in the bottom of. The fixed fairing is a step forward, as is the H.P. , higher revs, and torque increases. Better suspension. All in all, an excellent evolutionary step for the legendary brand, which looks for all the world that Indian means business, and is here to stay.
Looks like a road glide and a Honda had a fun night at the bar but I don’t think it’s a bad thing... I bet you won’t have any more heat issues.. good job Indian 👍
Or a decent front and rear suspension. I see no reason why a modern motorcycle doesn’t have inverted forks. It’s especially insulting that HD makes their forks look like their inverted with large covers on the top end while still having traditional forks.
Bad ass bike ! I own a road glide with a 124 so the power of the Power Plus is nothing compared to the M8 124. I can wait to see what the after market does with the Power Plus motor. 150hp ? We shall see.
Competitive pricing MY A$$!!! High prices are what is killing Harley Davidson sales for the last ten years and now Indian is going right down the same damn road!!! The Limited version of the Challenger model shouldn't be a dime over $25,000.00!!! Same with Harleys and they aren't gonna learn their lesson until they price themselves out of business!!
Harley plays on the fit and finish, of the fixtures of the things you touch the things you see and can relate to, I.e at the controls, the hand grips, its in-board dash, you know it a Harley. It’s production - final end product is all encompassing, it’s about its genuine parts, a product everyone can relate to. Harley Davidson is ‘Solid’ from its inception. That leads me to to prices. The picture paints an attractive picture like something to strive for and be like everybody else. I bought a new Suzuki boulevard c90t (left over 2018) for much much less cost, and I know nobody will do that.
I think they not only had an eye on the Road Glide but also took queues from the other bikes in this space like the Yamaha and Kawasaki. I think there were mods to the fairing because of the Yamaha, otherwise it would have looked more like the Road Glides fairing.. What I like about the new motor (remember the baby motor was used in the Vic Octane) is no push rods and the higher redline. The Yamaha is a nice bike, but you hit redline WAY too quick.. They can say it's not a Victory motor, but Vic was more about performance, Indian was about vintage.. It's great to see the Vic engineers were able to stretch there abilities into this motor, and some features of the bike (brakes, inverted forks, mono shock, etc. Etc.. Hopefully they gave it some legroom! The Indian cruisers were all just as cramped as the HD'S are..
Being a young rider, I really wish these were lower priced. I realize you get a lot of tech in this bike, but my two other bikes i bought brand new are less than one of these combined...
The 60 deg V twin, tank and shape of the bike looks awesome when the fairing and panniers are removed/ignored. I really don't like the look of the fairing, maybe I'd appreciate it if I had a ride on one ! I can't see the point of speakers on a bike, surely just have a helmet headset ?
just for giggles i called a polaris dealer one reason the web sight is so much of a maze i could not tell what i got in a limited that i don't get in the basic model challenger ... turns out the basic model will NOT have gps... will NOT have highway bars willNOT have power locks these things will not come on the basic 21,000 challenger .... i might at the standard road glide does have highway bars does have a fully functioning infotainment the limited version road glide gives you a trunk bag and lowers

I like that it's a similar profile to the Road Glide 😁
I'm betting a full touring version is in the works... :-) I'll be waiting for that!
Awesome, can’t wait to ride one.
I am absolutely in love with this bike already. Ever since I found out about "new indian" I have been saying they needed a frame mounted fairing Bike, and Boy Howdy did they Deliver exactly what I was wanting. Can't wait to see one in person at the dealer in Reno, NV. And I how have a dream Bike to work toward.
@bmwaxis well we all know what HD means "hundred dollars" here "hundred dollars" there... Lol. I mean I was a Harley guy for years til I road an Indian and I could never go Back. I hope Indian keeps it going, I love seeing healthy competition, it's what fuels Growth.
Harley Davidson still behind on the engineer front, Challenger all the way
Sanandan Kinkar releasing a bike with three or four color options that’s engineering , Indian didn’t engineered shit ....everything on that bike is old technology and H-D have all that too even more ...go back and study
Harley has SOME of that. And some of those features require buying a CVO. My Road Glide is missing the majority of the Challengers key features.
Brian Spurgeon to have reflex defense rider system all 2020 touring models have it as optional, on the CVO is standard .....has a collection of seven technology more than Indian
I’d love that remote lock and adjustable windscreen.
And RDRS is an extra $1k. I love my Harley but it’s not the only manufacturer of nice bikes around.
Victory legacy has been used to make bigger bore touring V twin. Liquid cooled V twin seems make the touring machine category more engineering advanced which offer more comfort and power in long distance riding.
Thanks for another informative and unbiased review 👍🏻
Cheers Charlie!
Still expensive, they need to drop prices under $20k or start giving us a raise!
McDonalds ia not a career path.
Hint: Raise your skill level and your pay will follow.
It's dope....but I'll keep my 2019 Chieftain
Harley are going to have to produce a tourer with suspension that actually works now. Sold my Street Glide because of the lousy 2in travel.
It's like trying to say Chevy stole the pickup from ford..when ford stole it from dodge..lol..WHATS A PICKUP SUPPOSED TO LOOK LIKE 👀👀
Definitely Indian did homework and brought a monster to the market now Harley better be ready for what is coming
Thank you, this may be the ONLY video on youtube that breaks down the differences between the 3 trims.
The guy pulling a wheelie is the best part of this video . Showing riders what it can do!
Indian HP & TQ numbers are BS. There’s a dyno on this bike already & HP was around 115
@@ericx7476 What is the source for your numbers?
Gene Clarke rider magazine.
107.6 HP & 113.3 lb-ft TQ FOR THE INDIAN CHALLENGER 😂
Gene Clarke lol 😂 you pasted the whole thing!
Good job, I been waiting for a fix fairing for some time now, I think it's a home run
Is it full liquid cooling or just the exhaust valves, impressive bike.
HD might want to "rushmore" equipment on their bikes to keep up the challenge....lol
Probably but FK the extra NONSENSE performance and suspension 2 key factors imo
It looks pretty good, but I'd be more excited to see a version without the fairing.
Been a HD loyalist for 40 years. Man, never thought I would consider another brand. But this bike is super cool. If you haven’t taken one for test ride you have to. Very comfortable, performed beautifully.
Great bike looking forward to a test ride, don’t look now HD too late
This is the only bike I would consider getting rid of my road glide for
Because it looks exactly like your road glide just does everything else better?
Phawk yeah, let’s ride!
I'm not a fan of American cruisers but I would give this a try.
I hope they can keep up with production demands!
please please please come to Indonesia market again ...
The Challenger will be a Game changer and a wake up call to Harley Davidson that seems to be lumbering behind on updating their touring bikes
The Scout was copied off the Octane proving the Challenger is a origin of Victory!
The scout came out long before the Octane.
@@thomasking5472 excellent points, and thank you for correcting me. Man, I remember Project 156's run up Pike"s Peak, and it wasn't all that long ago.
I'll put Challenger in a dream list. Definitely
I own a 2018 Roadglide. I am very impressed with the Indian Challenger line up. Watch out Harley !!
Try the 2020 Dark Horse Roadmaster first. Got mine a month ago, it saved me a ton of money by not going to HD Ultra Limited
@@rocky081991 will do Thanks
@@rocky081991 Great idea and yes I will plan on taking many test rides for sure before making a decision. Thanks Hoping April 2020 comes quickly, or I may have to move south!
I just wish that they had more options in the aftermarket accessories
If this is a Road Glide rip off, then I want one. xD
Ivan Jetá Look at the early Honda and Yamaha Touring bikes HD ripped them off.
it is and for slightly more money then the original you can have one
@@stevexaxa3619 This is objectively a much better motorcycle... Harley is the Apple of the motorcycle world. Half the sales are brand recognition, not a superior product.
I'd have the Indian any day.
Ivan Jetá ride what you like there are a lot of gold wings out there and it's a decent bike but not for me but i will argue anyday that indian is better quality then harley.... i don't think you could ever prove that at best in some cases equal and i'm being generous
@@stevexaxa3619 I also think Indians are better bikes overall don't get me wrong. If I was in the market for an American V-Twin and money wasn't and issue the FTR1200, Scout Bobber and Dark Horse would be on top of the list and only the Fat Bob and Low Rider S.
For now, I'm looking to trade in my old Fazer for the new BMW 1250 GSA. It's always been my dream bike.
Yep watch out Harley, this is one good looking bike and sounds mean and has the specs.
Seems to have the Harley beat on paper...
The bike is ugly as fuck
Watch out Harley! For what ? Two decades old technology Indian put in his touring bike ?! All overseas brands already had these. BTW my 2019 Fat Bob 114 smokes in the dust that Challenger hahaha
@@franciscvarga1212 fat bob is a great bike no doubt. But it is in a different is a cruiser not a tourer. Clearly a comment coming from a brand loyalist. Harley won't survive on selling nostalgia forever. They have to up their game or drop their prices or.they gonna become obselete.
Gut-Z Guy never everywhere I turn around someone bought a brand new Harley , I hardly see Indian someone buys one and I seen one all summer long .....so much fake news
Watching this video from Mexico Bro! Nice video, 2020 vs 2021 changed something to This model??
CHALLENGER , the name says it all !!! It’s doing what it’s name says , CHALLENGER !!!
Polaris is a fantastic forward thinking company and the capital to back R&D for Indian. They are in it for the long haul, love it ! All they need now is a larger dealership network !
I own 8 HDs including a 2014 CVO RoadKing and a 2019 Road Glide Special. Indian's Chieftain and now this Challenger are similar to HD but very different. I will add one to the stable in the next year, but will test ride the new 116 and this scoot soon.
Seems the 111 will be severely devalued now.
Aesthetically, Indian engines are about the best.
The 108 was to be the replacement for the victory 106 and let's not forget the Scout engine was also developed by victory for the octane
Another great, innovative bike from Indian. Can't wait to ride it.
Looks like a road glide and a Honda had a fun night at the bar but I don’t think it’s a bad thing... I bet you won’t have any more heat issues.. good job Indian 👍
They definitely did something better no reason why my 20K usd Road Glide shouldn't have auto locking bags and electric wind screen
It actually is they're staying in the Harley price range...the STANDARD is 21...28 for the dark horse and limited
And Indian says they got their motivation from the scout powerplant which was in a Victory octane first
I think they not only had an eye on the Road Glide but also took queues from the other bikes in this space like the Yamaha and Kawasaki.
All LED lighting is great.
Love it. Looks like a great bike and liquid cooled and over head cams is a big plus 👍
Bike speakers are an artifact of the days before things like Sena or Pack talk.
@@khaccanhle1930 Well yeah. If it's a classic tourer then I guess they have a place, but this is a NEW bike !
Make no mistake. The Challenger is the 2020 Victory and that alone is more than ample reason to purchase.
just for giggles i called a polaris dealer one reason the web sight is so much of a maze i could not tell what i got in a limited that i don't get in the basic model challenger ... turns out the basic model will NOT have gps... will NOT have highway bars willNOT have power locks these things will not come on the basic 21,000 challenger .... i might at the standard road glide does have highway bars does have a fully functioning infotainment the limited version road glide gives you a trunk bag and lowers
I'm not into the modern machines but I think this is a big 'good) step forward for Indian and a real competitor to the Harley group.
Lets just say I ❤️ my Road Glide. This bike looks like a carbon copy of my bike, and I think Harley definitely has this bike beat in looks. Let’s see what Harley does for 2021
Looks like re-branding of victory.
I’m alright with that. It looks a lot better than the Vision at least.
Once again Indian is kicking HD's ass in this competition! Love it
Nice snowmobile...good luck getting parts when ya break down in EBFE
Say bye bye harley
I just want to comment on something funny happened in last few day.
1- HD fire there International Director.
2- HD announced a global sales dropped off.
3- Indian Announced their new Challenger.
Is that all is coincidence 🤣,
Emirates Bikers Magazine. How many times have Indian gone out of business? Everyone has a bad week from time to time?
@@Tobyinmud how many times has harley sold? It was a joke dude relax
I can't wait until lloydz makes cam and an intake for this power house.
I noticed that the switchgear is backlit :-)
Although I'm a old Victory guy (have 3 of them) and upset over its demise, I can't deny the Polaris attitude towards producing bad ass quality motorcycles. Time will tell if it's a winner in sales?
