- I took a stroll around Miyajima with my iPhone 7 plus, DJI OSMO mobile and a wonderful Docomo 4G Signal on a beautiful sunny afternoon!
Miyajima is considered the no.1 site in Japan consistently and an amazing place any time of the year.

John I personally like to say thank you very much for all your videos I studied Japanese for two years I am 38 years old ever since I was in high school was fascinated and always wanted to go to and live in Japan. Life happens like being single dad for many years before a few years ago meeting my wife and would never change that for anything in the world but anyways my whole point is my health is not so good the with odds looking like they are against me it's not gonna happen with my life, I know you do this for yourself and you also do this for the Japanese people to promote this wonderful country and their culture but also you're doing a lot for people like me and I know I can't be the only one but it's probably going to be the closest thing to me actually experiencing being there in person. John, this is my absolute favorite video of the trip so far. There are so many things I love that I don't even know where to start. First of all, what an absolutely stunning, unbelievably beautiful place Miyajima is. Hiroshima Bay, gleaming & blue... the sweet roaming deer... that stunning 5 story red Pagoda... the concrete structures & statues... the shops, the foods. Unbelievable. I can see why it's so popular, and I now know this would be a MUST see if one visits Japan.
I feel like we are getting to know you so much better with these live streams. I love the fact that you just say what's on your mind and then remember it's live... some of my favorite moments and quotes! :-) More than anything else, these videos make me feel like I'm there, exploring along side with you! For someone who very much wants to go to Japan but probably will never get to go, it's magical. Thank you for that. ❤

The thing that sets you apart from other travel channels is your interactions with the locals. Its good that you can speak their language and always use that to your advantage. I hope you continue to do more travel blog with random interviews with locals. Good luck and keep it up!

The last time I was there (with a school tour), we hiked up Misen. If you're there for a day, and have the time, I'd say it's worth doing.
There's a cable car that can take you up and down as well, if you're not up for the hike. I just really loved the hike.

Well, that's it, you've convinced me to visit Hiroshima. Next time I visit Japan I'm going to spend a few days there, it looks stunningly beautiful. I'm also having fun finding where you are (in these videos) on google earth. I managed to find the little park where you camped near Fukuoka IC and the spot where you hitch-hiked from.

I'll gonna spend two days in the island and luckily i was able to booked a hostel within the island for a budget price. Can't wait! Though i'm not sure if i could resist feeding the deer.

If I recall it correctly, there is Starbucks on Miyajima, John (probably opened after you did this walkaround. Edit: yes it opened in November 2017. ) It's out facing the sea, near a local brewery, behind those shops.

John what are the stone lanterns called and what is their significance? I'm assuming there is some deeper meaning to them, as I am finding (through your vlogs and episodes of Only in Japan) that the Japanese people have a rich symbolism in so much of what they do. Garden shops here in Florida sell these (made of concrete rather than stone) and I would love to add several but now wonder if it would be appropriate?
Miso Mountain? Could it be Miyamaharagenshirin? It is beautiful with pagoda & cherry trees. Perhaps you could ask someone. Pine trees are nice, it is good to walk on the sandy surface. Totoro sighting was cute.

After seeing this I'm very conflicted if I want to go there. I've never seen such a tourist infested place in Japan before, it looks worse than Kyoto, which I didn't enjoy at all. I guess I'll have to pass.

NO WAY!!!!! 😢 it’s better if no chains were on the island but I’m not surprised ... Soon the mom and pop shops will compete with chain yakitori, sushi, fast food ...
ONLY in JAPAN * GO I agree it will make it difficult for the local shops. They got one of the best places too. You can find them right before the giant gate as you enter the the shopping street opposite and on your left side. It has 2 floors and top floor has a balcony with great view over the beach and sea. 😂
