- In this video we leave our camper van in Hiroshima to spend 48 hours on Miyajima island with @sharlainjapan and Mark. We start by touring the island on a rickshaw, try grilled eel - a specialty of the island, and wake up early to see the Itsukushima shrine at sunrise. Absolutely loved Miyajima! And it was one of the highlights of our whole 3 month trip ✨

We are Dominic and Emma. Travelling together as a couple for the last 10 years, we started off backpacking through South East Asia and in 2016 began vanlife as a means to travel with our pug, Percy. Since then, we have slowly been upgrading; from our first self-build micro-camper Renault Kangoo to our Mercedes Sprinter LWB, and now our Fiat Ducato Hymer Swing Motorhome. Vanlife allows us to not only travel with our dog, but experience travelling through places and enjoying the journey, not just the destination. We are advocates for not allowing financial circumstance to be a barrier to travel. Instead we know there is Always Away!

Went to Miyajima in 2009 - loved it. Went back in Feb 2020 - the train from Hiroshima city to the port broke down for an hour, the shrine was covered in scaffolding, the rope way up the mountain was closed and they had rounded up the deer to keep them away from the renovation work - Disaster - probably the most disappointing day I have had in Japan! Good to see things are back to normal! Great Vlog - keep up the good work!

Great video guys, thank you for doing a live premier for it as well, something a bit fun and different. Japan looks like such an amazing country to explore, I think the way you’ve done it over a period of months is fantastic as I imagine there’s less pressure to ‘we must do this, we must see this’ in maybe a couple of weeks or so. Came here last month during my holiday to Japan, probably one of my favourite places of the whole trip. The shrine, the temple, and especially the park and ropeway. My only regret is not stay long enough to explore the top of the mountain and hike back down
Same! We walked up some of it but not very far. Would love to go back and get to the top!
I think going out at sunrise is so smart. You have the town to yourself, albeit for an hour or so. Nothing better than grabbing a coffee and just exploring the serenity.

I’ve visited Miyajima 3 times and its always lovely! What’s the restaurant you had dinner at? It looks soooo good!
In the house we stayed in they offer a private chef, so the whole dinner was at the house. The chef was amazing ☺️

Ah sorry Jean! 😂 It was just a long trip, but we thought about moving. Looking into it, renting somewhere with a dog is no easy task, or even getting somewhere without a work visa so we decided against it. If anything, the dream is to move to Thailand one day and visit Japan regularly!
