  • The Boss ME-25 has a reasonably easy operating system, but there are a couple of tricks that don't come naturally ...and one that is completely hidden: The noise suppressor function.

    One useful feature not in the video is this. If you hold down the "Exit" button while in the editing mode, you can spin the Drive, Tone, and Volume knobs to see what their current values are without changing them. Useful for checking out what a setting is before changing it so you know where you started.

    Not sure if I missed it but one more thing is that you can change bass, mid, and highs of the preamp by long pressing the preamp button until it flashes quickly. Then, the parameter 1, 2 and 3 become low, mid, highs respectively. Great tutorial!

    Excellent no-nonsense review. I bought one of these pedals yesterday which was advertised on Gumtree and it's sat in my car as we speak being quarantined due to the Corona virus issues and your review is a very welcome visual introduction to its use which will no doubt save the frustration of searching through the manual;.

    I bought this pedal when I was 15, and I was so confused by it that I took it back two days later, saying it didn't do what I wanted..
    After talking to the guitar shop dude for a bit, and him showing me how it worked, I went home really satisfied with this product, and I got years of use out of it, not just for guitar, but keyboards, bass, synths. It's a fantastic product.

    Very good overview of this unit. I’ve had one for years, but it stayed packed away, as did my Strat, when I was hit with autoimmune diseases 10 years ago. I also have a broken back, even after 2 major surgeries, but am gonna attempt playing again. All this time on my hands, since I can’t work, and it’s maddening. Maybe trying to play will keep my mind busy. I’m just scared my shaky hands and poor dexterity will hinder me. I know I’ll never play like I once could, but I’m hoping this Boss unit will give me enough tricks to make it sound reasonable.
    I greatly appreciate your help!

      @@WesleyWattley-xy4fg thanks so much my friend. I had higher hopes when I wrote this, but have made significant strides. I went from 275Lbs to 195 lbs. not so much on the guitar. Having had two new grandkids 10/26 & 11/06, that alone was enough to keep my momentum going. To overcome the weight gain, which was primarily due to massive amounts of prednisone and inactivity, I started physical therapy.

    Choice video. A detail for the looper pedal. Hold down for 3 seconds . It will flash slowly and its now on standby. When yr ready to record tap it again and it will flash fast and record. When yr done recording tap It again and the light will stay on as it plays back. Took me a bit longer than 30 secs to work that out . And a violinists youtube post helped . Next step customizing the factory presets. If yr old and easily frustrated like me these lessons are godsends. Thanks .

  • @SpartanLaserCanon
    @SpartanLaserCanon 10 місяців тому +2

    I think this proves that the ME-25 can be just as good as many other pedals today. You can find this pedal for cheaper than a lot of pedals. If you want a Boss-ME 25 to sound better I recommend you place a spare short guitar cable or headphone adapter into the headphone slot when using a daw or an amp and that makes it sound way more realistic to me. I am still so surprised how good some of the clean settings are and you can almost any amp you use this with sound more Jazzy. One thing I didn't like about this pedal is that you could not control the rate of chorus which is why I bought a separate chorus pedal, but I love everything else about this pedal. Heck, I'd even try using some of the settings as a boost for a tube amp. I love when good things are very user friendly and I can say this is super user friendly. For playing I might write down what some of the patches are for each song I would play. In my mind Boss is still the King in terms of sound quality of classic effects. For a mix with a whole band, I might have turned the bass down in the eq a bit, but this still sounds good.

    JUST ONE IMPORTANT DETAIL that has been overlooked is the fact that when you´re EDITING THE DRIVE/AMP effect and when it´s blinking, PRESS that DRIVE/AMP BUTTON AGAIN for just, say 2 seconds, then it starts to FLASH FASTER THAN USUAL WHICH MEANS you can use THE DRIVE,TONE and VOLUME CONTROL as an AMP´S TONE CONTROL ; DRIVE (BASS), TONE(MIDS), and VOLUME(TREBLE). \m/

    • @gearfacts

      I wouldn't describe it as a begginer's pedal really - too fiddly to use and understand. For a beginner I'd recommend one of the lower-end Zoom pedals (G1xon or similar) as it'll provide a much better education about hos effects inter-relate.

      @@gearfacts Not *that* much of a begginer, heh. I've done a lot of music already, mostly keyboard stuff. I know how effects corelate and so on. My begginer-ishness was more about guitar itself, as I've only actually been playing the guitar for a year or so. My question was rather reffering to it's quality. I'm not expecting much, after all it's digital, but I would like to know if the versitality is good, and the overall sound quality. I'm asking since I've found a really good deal for it, and it seems to fit most of my needs.

      I go direct, but you can use the effects loop if you want to. Some ppl find it sounds better that way, especially if your amp has tone that you really love :) Gearfacts

    Can anyone tell me which is the correct adapter for this as I got one without the cable but am told it must be the Boss one.... can anyone shine a light on this for me? I plugged an ac adapter in and it didnt work. 🤔

    • @gearfacts
      @gearfacts  2 роки тому +1

      It doesn't really need to be the Boss one, it just needs to be 9 volts, 500 milli-Amps, center-negative. Personally I recommend buying one of those multi-voltage adapters from an electronics place as you can use them on just about anything. Just ask for a DC multi-voltage power adapter, they should know what you mean :)

But before you do that, maybe try a few different power supplies.

    Hey man awesome video i know this has been.on here a while but ive got an issue that wasnt highlighted in this vid...ive been changing some.settings on different patches and for some reason a few of them have less volume on the solo button than on the default patch...do you by any chance know how to.increase or decrease gain/volume on the solo/tap tempo button? No worries if not but thats the one thing i cannot seem to figure out lol ;)

    • @gearfacts

      kyle zehtabi hmmmm, so long ago ...I’m afraid I’m going to be no help here really :/ I think when you set your parameters for solo mode you can adjust patch volume too, and save it so that your solo mode gets that extra volume boost. That’s certainly how it worked on the ME-8 which for some reason sticks in my mind much more clearly. You might have to get the manual by googling “Boss ME-25 PDF’ It should be one if the first results that come up. That’s about the best advice I’ve got, sorry!
