Boss ME-25 tutorial with HIDDEN FEATURES!

- Опубліковано 27 вер 2024
- The Boss ME-25 has a reasonably easy operating system, but there are a couple of tricks that don't come naturally ...and one that is completely hidden: The noise suppressor function.
One useful feature not in the video is this. If you hold down the "Exit" button while in the editing mode, you can spin the Drive, Tone, and Volume knobs to see what their current values are without changing them. Useful for checking out what a setting is before changing it so you know where you started.
No way! This thing is so full of secrets :)
I watched the entire video and finally found what I was looking for in the comments 😊. Thank you my friend!
This is exactly what I was looking for
Amazing thank you
Not sure if I missed it but one more thing is that you can change bass, mid, and highs of the preamp by long pressing the preamp button until it flashes quickly. Then, the parameter 1, 2 and 3 become low, mid, highs respectively. Great tutorial!
And a great comment - thank you! The comments for this video are becoming better than the actual manual :)
best me-25 tutorial on the internet
That's an awesome compliment, Roy. Thanks for watching Gearfacts!
@@gearfacts its true
Finally! I found a tutorial video that shows you how to use this thing without a bunch of super technical blah blah blah. And I have read the manual and that was like reading a foreign language. Thank you so much for making this video.
That's very nice feedback GC, thanks for commenting :) #gearfacts
I bought this unit four years ago and tried to use off and on over that time...never could figure out how to actually use it properly. Thanks for the video!
THanks so much eblazer :)
Excellent no-nonsense review. I bought one of these pedals yesterday which was advertised on Gumtree and it's sat in my car as we speak being quarantined due to the Corona virus issues and your review is a very welcome visual introduction to its use which will no doubt save the frustration of searching through the manual;.
One thing I do find curious... who are these morons who would click the thumbs down button?
Very supportive comment - thank you!
Brilliant overview. Couldn't be more perfect. Thanks for taking the time to make this stellar tutorial!
Glad it was helpful!
I bought this pedal when I was 15, and I was so confused by it that I took it back two days later, saying it didn't do what I wanted..
After talking to the guitar shop dude for a bit, and him showing me how it worked, I went home really satisfied with this product, and I got years of use out of it, not just for guitar, but keyboards, bass, synths. It's a fantastic product.
It definitely has a learning curve. GF
Had one for 3 years...even read the manual..ur tutorial has helped out incredibly..thank u very much sir...
That's great to hear man, thanks for watching :) Gearfacts
Very good overview of this unit. I’ve had one for years, but it stayed packed away, as did my Strat, when I was hit with autoimmune diseases 10 years ago. I also have a broken back, even after 2 major surgeries, but am gonna attempt playing again. All this time on my hands, since I can’t work, and it’s maddening. Maybe trying to play will keep my mind busy. I’m just scared my shaky hands and poor dexterity will hinder me. I know I’ll never play like I once could, but I’m hoping this Boss unit will give me enough tricks to make it sound reasonable.
I greatly appreciate your help!
I'm humbled sir, glad the video was helpful! :)
Hope you're OK
@@WesleyWattley-xy4fg thanks so much my friend. I had higher hopes when I wrote this, but have made significant strides. I went from 275Lbs to 195 lbs. not so much on the guitar. Having had two new grandkids 10/26 & 11/06, that alone was enough to keep my momentum going. To overcome the weight gain, which was primarily due to massive amounts of prednisone and inactivity, I started physical therapy.
May Christ heal you ...
This intro to the ME-25 is AWSOME! Thank you so much - saved me hours of reading the f. manual!
haha that was the idea! Glad it was helpful :) GF
Thank you, good Sir! I was just about to apply the fine-adjustment sedge hammer. You saved my 25.
Woah, that's some temper! haha
Choice video. A detail for the looper pedal. Hold down for 3 seconds . It will flash slowly and its now on standby. When yr ready to record tap it again and it will flash fast and record. When yr done recording tap It again and the light will stay on as it plays back. Took me a bit longer than 30 secs to work that out . And a violinists youtube post helped . Next step customizing the factory presets. If yr old and easily frustrated like me these lessons are godsends. Thanks .
Awesome, this thread is becoming better than the manual!
I bought this unit about 5 years ago and literally didn't open it at all until a year ago. Great unit.
Ha, yeah I’ve got a few pedals waiting in line like that!
superb tuition , high quality ,many thanks . now why couldnt boss be that clear
Wow, thank you so much! :) Gearfacts
I couldn't understand the manual
Thank you for this great tips on Me-25. I been looking for this quite sometimes, just yesterday, my dream came true. I am so excited and can't believed this pedal is great and easy to handle after watching your video. Once again, you rock my day " Gearfacts "
Wonderful! Thanks for your message :) Gearfacts
I bought this wayback 2019. I sold it after 3 years and buy again in the next day. Until now, Boss ME25 still best for me. Easy to create patch. I know all the secrets of this pedal because I explore it myself 😊
I think this proves that the ME-25 can be just as good as many other pedals today. You can find this pedal for cheaper than a lot of pedals. If you want a Boss-ME 25 to sound better I recommend you place a spare short guitar cable or headphone adapter into the headphone slot when using a daw or an amp and that makes it sound way more realistic to me. I am still so surprised how good some of the clean settings are and you can almost any amp you use this with sound more Jazzy. One thing I didn't like about this pedal is that you could not control the rate of chorus which is why I bought a separate chorus pedal, but I love everything else about this pedal. Heck, I'd even try using some of the settings as a boost for a tube amp. I love when good things are very user friendly and I can say this is super user friendly. For playing I might write down what some of the patches are for each song I would play. In my mind Boss is still the King in terms of sound quality of classic effects. For a mix with a whole band, I might have turned the bass down in the eq a bit, but this still sounds good.
💯
i bought mine 2 yrs ago, read manual still didnt catch on so i just put it aside... until today dusted it off and decided to plug it into line6 amp to get more delay and this video help me a butt load ! thank you, bro !
This video has been the most rewarding upload for me, it seems everyone's dusting off their old ME25 units and hearing just what it has to offer. Glad you found the video useful, Satch :) Gearfacts
Best tutorial ever. Why couldn't Boss do this? Dude, they owe you money.
Thanks Ernest :) Gearfacts
Much better tutorial than Boss put out. Geared to an Engineer - not an 8th grader! Nice job!
Thanks man, I really appreciate the feedback :) Gearfacts
Awesome tutorial guys! I can play okay guitar but units like the Boss ME-25 have always sent me into a dizzy spin out from which there has never ever been a recovery. I have tried units like this and have never ever cracked one...until now...I have had the ME 25 guy for a while and thanks to your tutorial I am gunna nut this one out and get going with it. Thanks again.
Flattering message, Hilton! Thanks from Gearfacts :)
I was going to get rid of mine because it was too complicated until I found your video. Thank you
That's a very satisfying comment for me to receive, thanks Steve :) Gearfacts
I've been using this unit for 2 years, and I still learned some new stuff from this video! 😳, thanks!! 😊 🙏
Awesome, I'm glad it was useful for you :) :) Gerafacts
I have not bought another pedal since I got this ! Especially because of the looping capability on it.
I found the manual hard to read and many people shelve these units because of that. So Thanks for your demo.
Glad it was helpful!
You have a commentator voice, that’s amazing I love it, it hypnotizes me😍😍
:) Gearfacts
Why am I watching this? I don't even own one!
Coz it's Gearfacts, man!
because you want one
I got one!
Thanks man. I really want to master this thing. I bought one years ago but now I really love the guitar again.
Great, I'm glad you found it useful :) #gearfacts
I bought this pedal off my friend a year ago and had no idea you could do this! So cool! :D thank you for the tutorial! :)
GLad it was helpful! :) Gearfacts
The BEST ME 25 tutorial on UA-cam. Quick and to the point and very understandable. Great job man! Thanks.
Thanks man, it's nice to get that feedback from you, because just one hour ago a guy called me a dickhead and said that my video was a waste of time. I guess he had a very important meeting to get to...
JUST ONE IMPORTANT DETAIL that has been overlooked is the fact that when you´re EDITING THE DRIVE/AMP effect and when it´s blinking, PRESS that DRIVE/AMP BUTTON AGAIN for just, say 2 seconds, then it starts to FLASH FASTER THAN USUAL WHICH MEANS you can use THE DRIVE,TONE and VOLUME CONTROL as an AMP´S TONE CONTROL ; DRIVE (BASS), TONE(MIDS), and VOLUME(TREBLE). \m/
Cheers Henry, all contributions are welcome :) Gearfacts
Excellent tutorial! Like others that have exceptional videos on YT the manufactures should pay the creator for use on their company website. Amazing how many reps fail miserably explaining their products.
Thanks RD, was great to get that feedback :) Gearfacts
Thanks! I have this one. It is quite cryptical.
its crazy how many ppl dont know how to use this lol. i just got mine a week ago from ebay, scored for 60 bucks. im a beginner, 33 yr old beginner lol. but most this stuff i was able to figure out, i mean its kind of inutuitive really, n the editing by going to the set value first to get it to move, well i figured that out pretty quick by moving the dial, then realizing, oh i see, ... anyways, i did learn some stuff, an look forward to learning more, great video, thanks alot. drummers rule!!! but guitarists are pretty cool too;) we'll see if my mindset changes after i become better at guitar lol
You play a rehearsal using drum sets on multi effects ..but you cant use a drum set and play guitar or synth ...so what u cant on a seum you can on a multi effects ..ao drums doesn't rule.fyitarists or keyboard player rules ..
Wow ive had this pedal for many years but i didnt know about all theese functions! Thank you.
No problem RP7!
Awesome who need's a manual! When you have a tutorial like this killer job... I have no manual for mine it was lost in battle... So in 10 minute's my whole life has changed. Haha I've had this pedal for nearly a yr now... Love the Pedal alway's knew there was way more to it...
Yep, it's one of Boss's finest. Glad the video was helpful!
I just got 1... Pawn shop, $99 usD...
A friend of mine had a bigger
model, don't remember the name... Mine is similar but smaller. I know his cost bout $700 or more.
I'm happy with mine, and it's got U.S.B. bay bee !!!
@@gearfacts Yeah BRA, thank you for your help. You Rock
I owned one of these for like a decade now, and I did not know about the noise suppression!
Same :) #gearfacts
Boss should be paying you for this video (their documentation leaves much to be desired). Thanks for your guidance!
haha thanks Bill :) #gearfacts
if you hold the preamp it will begin to flash rapidly you then can set param 1 2 and 3 as bass mids and treble
Ah another hidden feature! I should redo this vid with all the new things we've learned here
Great demo. Really helped me. Thanks a million.
Drifterklod good to hear, thanks for watching Gearfacts :)
In edit mode, If you hold down an effect button, it will start to flash quickly to edit the equilizer of that effect. Did not played with it a lot so I dont know if it works for every effects but it's another hidden feature :)
Nicolas Leroux Nice one Nicholas! Thanks for that :)
Thanks for the info, really liking more my boss me 25.
You're welcome A2R, thanks for watching Gearfacts :)
does it have a drum machine?
no.
Good, quick tutorial.
:) Gearfacts
my solo/tap tempo is backwards i think in regards of volume. when the light is on, i assume it would be boosted. But it goes lower. How do i change it so it boost when the light is on..ie change the volume...thanks great video...;)
you have to go on edit mode, press solo and turn volume up, i think that would work
@@alejandrodanieldelfino4011 Thanks, yes i tried that, maybe it was not enough. Thanks again.
We don't need no stinkin' manual. Thanks for posting!
haha ...I hope there'll always be a place for quick video tuorials though ;) GF
Thank you so much what a huge help :-) I just wondered how do I switch between the pedal functions? Thank you 🙂
Yes this question has come up before. I didn't cover it at the time and now I don't have this pedal so... argh! I think some other people might have commented about it below. Happy scrolling, sorry i couldn't be more help!
Hi! My boss ME-25 turns on and goes straight to memory number 58 and freezes once it’s there. Nothing to be done but disconnecting the input power on. Any ideas on what the issue might be? Cheers
Try a factory reset:1. Press and hold the EXIT button and the MEMORY down pedal-”FA” appears in the display. 2. Press WRITE twice.
Hey! Do you think the ME-25 would be worth a try for a begginer like me in 2020? From what I've seen it seems pretty good.
I wouldn't describe it as a begginer's pedal really - too fiddly to use and understand. For a beginner I'd recommend one of the lower-end Zoom pedals (G1xon or similar) as it'll provide a much better education about hos effects inter-relate.
@@gearfacts Not *that* much of a begginer, heh. I've done a lot of music already, mostly keyboard stuff. I know how effects corelate and so on. My begginer-ishness was more about guitar itself, as I've only actually been playing the guitar for a year or so. My question was rather reffering to it's quality. I'm not expecting much, after all it's digital, but I would like to know if the versitality is good, and the overall sound quality. I'm asking since I've found a really good deal for it, and it seems to fit most of my needs.
@@squarebox5953 I just got one can't go wrong with boss ! Get it!!!
How do you get the solo pedal to increase volume instead of tap delay tempo?
I remember borrowing one from a friend of mine for one week, and the sounds blew me away, especially the clean sounds, the looper, and the volume/wah pedal. I wish I had one of these so I can play with it every day.
Great tutorial ! Thanks so much.
Cheers Jeff, I hope it was helpful. Thanks for watching Gearfacts :)
I know this pedal is old but I love the effects. I’ve just started using it again. However, how to I move a factory patch over to my existing patches that I created?
Just go to the factory patch you like, press STORE (or is it "save", I can't remember!) once, navigate to the user patch and press STORE again. You should get a perfect copy of the factory patch in your user location. And yes I agree, this model has absolutely stood the test of time, it sounds great :)
is there an option to turn the tuning down? for example if I wanted to play in eflat standard
I don’t think so, but then these things are full of surprises!
@@gearfacts thanks for the quick response!
how to do a "patch call method" for live like zoom multi effects processor?
Another fantastic review!Much appreciated mate!
Heaps more to come mate. Although I haven't done a multi effects unit in a while...
straight to the point..nice guy
That's the way I like to keep my videos :) Thanks for watching Gearfacts!
Exactly! Clear, concise, gets on with it, and gives you all the info you need to know without a lot of hulabaloo. Wish they could all be so on point! I just picked up a second one of these in mint condition (don't think the person used it more than 10 minutes) so I can have a spare, as well as keep one in another rig bag. I've had my first one since 2010, and have used it on hundreds of gigs. Great piece of kit!
is there a true bypass feature to eliminate the unit from the chain if wanted ?
I don't think so
I thought I was a tolerably quick study until I bought one of these. Wondering now how to remove an option, like comp/fx or preamp, from a patch. Perhaps you just select one & set it to zero.
When you're in the edit mode, you press the buttons at the top left to turn individual effects on of off.
@@gearfacts Thanks. You're right. If the light is off the effect is too.
Very helpful video. I can’t find anything on importing patches from other music libraries to tone central for my me25. Any suggestions?
Great tuatorial. One question, do you put this machine through the effects loop on your amp?
I go direct, but you can use the effects loop if you want to. Some ppl find it sounds better that way, especially if your amp has tone that you really love :) Gearfacts
Can anyone tell me which is the correct adapter for this as I got one without the cable but am told it must be the Boss one.... can anyone shine a light on this for me? I plugged an ac adapter in and it didnt work. 🤔
It doesn't really need to be the Boss one, it just needs to be 9 volts, 500 milli-Amps, center-negative. Personally I recommend buying one of those multi-voltage adapters from an electronics place as you can use them on just about anything. Just ask for a DC multi-voltage power adapter, they should know what you mean :)
@@gearfacts ordered a 9V that claims it does the trick , will have to see as I do not understand polarity/electrics etc lol👍
Excellent video and its helped me a lot, thank you.
Hi John, that's really nice to hear. It's a good unit for the price I think (and I've tried many!) Gearfacts
Thanks, bro!
No problem!
why do several report theirs wont work with batteries?
Amazing board.. Why have Boss stopped making and selling these? I'm getting one used, your video helped encourage me even more!
Yep, it punches way above its weight.
Got mine today, love it already, including the hidden noise suppressor! Thx again:)

Glad to help :)
Question: When I use my earphones with a 6.5 mm jack adaptor, the guitar sound when applying DS/OS seems to lower down. Habe you encountered the same problem?
I have never noticed this problem - if it's a faulty capacitor then unfortunately it might get worse.
@@gearfacts I have been using the unit now for almost two years at home mostly. And it was my first time using the earphone jack. But the problem only arises when I dial-in OD/DS but for reverb, delay, modulations it doesn't. I'll buy another adaptor to check. thank you so much!
Hey bro you missed a detail - you can set pedal to allow immediate parameter change by holding exit and selecting “n1” with up pedal. Peace.
Haha we’re building up a pretty goo collection of things I missed here! Cheers man
Thank you
A pleasure :)
Great help! Any chance you could do a reverse delay?
Very informative! Thank you!

Any time! And hey if you feel like returning the favor it'd be great if you could share Gearfacts on your social media ;)
Does thi have a sustainer for the intro to with or without you ir would I need an Ebow
It can't do sustain the same way an ebow does it.
Hey this is the best video for me 25 thankyou! Just two questions if thats ok? Does it have an equalizer? Also are all the slots rewritable and are all the preinstalled sounds ready to go or isceach slot just left open to make what sound you like? Much appreciated
Thank you! And the answer is yes to the EQ, and yes you can create your own patches. I can't remember exactly how many of them, but you can create and save at least 25 patches.
@@gearfacts thats brilliant cheers mate. really was a great video just a straight forward no bullshit video 10 minuites bang know how to work it.. cheers much love
I can't find output master volume
Hey..Man.. Just want to ask a quick question... Seen your review...I want to get one now... Can it be as good as me- 70 ( Regrading the patches ) ? I mean....Can we get same tone as me 70 .. Cause My friend has it...and i want to get the same patches from this me 25 ....And also does this have drum looper?? .. Thank you.
Hmm, this is all going back a few years but as I recall, the 70 was nice but it didn't blow me away. The 25 impressed me right from the start. So I'd say go for it, I think you'll get pretty darn close, if not just as good, as that ME70. Can't remember about the looper, you'll have to google that :) Gearfacts
@@gearfacts Thanks man.
I know it's kinda late, but the 70 has a few more features as well as sound banks if I recall. If you own either a 25 I wouldn't buy a 70, neither should you go to a 25 if you have a 70 either
@@Daya-kc9mi just bought one second hand £60 , love it but it has no drum looper I think but if someone knows better please let me know, thanks

Hello, I just found one around my wife's music school but it doesn't boot up when I plug in the cable, I introduced batteries as well as the charger, but nothing happens. If anybody had similar issues with this model and has some tips to offer I would be very grateful. Cheers.
If neither power source is working then it'll definitely need to be looked at by a technician.
Can you drop to Eb with the harmonist???
Yep
Does it have a tuner?
Yes
The manual wasn't clear to me. Thanks for making technology translation.
I'm pleased that it was helpful for you :) GF
K I got this.
Why doesnt the DC cord shutting it off?
Battery works
If I plug it in she done
Why does*
The only way to turn it off is to unplug it, or turn the mains power off.
@@gearfacts sorry I ment it wont turn on
@@tonystovin1697 Ah so it only works with batteries... Ok that means the power input connection is broken. It's quite easy to fix if you can use a soldering iron, you will have to open the pedal up and replace the connection if it can't be soldered back into place. But before you do that, maybe try a few different power supplies.
oh shit there's a noise gate !
Yes! I was pretty excited to discover that too. Thanks for watching Gearfacts :)
Does anybody know where to find an effects / setup library of actual bands and songs online?
Hello, i am trying to use this as an audio interface, but i still hear the sound coming from ME-25 as well, is there a way to turn of monitoring, so i can only hear the proccessed sound coming from my Bias Fx beacuse right now i hear a clean ME-25 sound and on top of it whatever i chose from bias FX making an unpleasant sound.thanks.
It sounds to me like the problem might be with the audio routing in your recording system. That's where you should be able to turn off monitoring for the channel that the ME-25 is on :) #gearfacts
Hey man awesome video i know this has been.on here a while but ive got an issue that wasnt highlighted in this vid...ive been changing some.settings on different patches and for some reason a few of them have less volume on the solo button than on the default patch...do you by any chance know how to.increase or decrease gain/volume on the solo/tap tempo button? No worries if not but thats the one thing i cannot seem to figure out lol ;)
kyle zehtabi hmmmm, so long ago ...I’m afraid I’m going to be no help here really :/ I think when you set your parameters for solo mode you can adjust patch volume too, and save it so that your solo mode gets that extra volume boost. That’s certainly how it worked on the ME-8 which for some reason sticks in my mind much more clearly. You might have to get the manual by googling “Boss ME-25 PDF’ It should be one if the first results that come up. That’s about the best advice I’ve got, sorry! Hope you find the answer easily :) Gearfacts
@@gearfacts thats all good thanks very much for a quick response :)

does the ME 25 have EQs for the overdrive or preamp settings?
Just tone controls for each :) #gearfacts
Gearfacts that’s wrong . Long press the drive button , then you can adjust the bass mid and treble of the preamp using the three nobs on the right . Parameter 1 is bass parameter 2 is mids parameter 3 is treble .
How much it is here in philippines sir
They don't manufacture it anymore. You should be able to get an old one for around $US100.
Nailed it! Thanks
Pepi Morel And thanks to you too :) Gearfacts
How Can I undo an edited effect on ME 25? Kindly guide me.
There is no undo function, but I think the preset patches remain the same as the original user patches. Do if you can find the preset patch that was your starting point, you could copy it back to the user location that you wanted to reset. I hope that makes sense, I don't think i wrote it very well!! :) #gearfacts
How do you copy a preset patch

What's N1 mode?

Does it have an equalizer?
Yep :) Gearfacts
should i buy a use me25 or a nux mg100/mooer ge100 what would you recommend
Out of those I'd choose the Boss ME-25 because of its superior drive sounds, narrowly ahead of the MG100 which has better modulation and delay effects. The GE100 is fun but a long way behind in terms of sound quality :) Gearfacts
Thanks i think the size will swing it i'm into early rock n roll and blues so drives not as important and will be using it mainly while on holiday have a larger set up at home
