- According to Austin Butler's voice coach, his continued Elvis impression is not an act. Irene Bartlett, the 31-year-old actor's voice coach, chatted with ABC Australia's Gold Coast on Monday, and she addressed how his voice permanently changed since playing such an iconic role in Baz Luhrmann's biopic. "What you saw in that [2023] Golden Globes speech, that's him. It's genuine, it's not put on...I don't know how long that will last, or if it's going to be there forever," she said, defending Austin.

I have to agree with his voice coach… people just need to put aside the hint of Elvis and see the true person in Austin who played Elvis to the best of his abilities and brought Elvis out to the fans and younger generations and most importantly a true tribute played for Elvis family to see, especially his one and only daughter.. Everyone is saying he's faking it but they don't understand how long he had to speak like Elvis. Probably two years cus it takes them a while to film a movie and then they wait like another year sometimes sooner to release it but if you train your voice for so long to sound a certain way you'll become used to it and that'll basically become your new voice. It's like when you move to a country and live there for a couple years and pick up their accent/language. Have some common sense people

Understandable how he gave into the role during the pandemic. He also said that he did damage his voice also from all the singing he did. Perhaps that had some influence in how he speak. Making his voice deeper and in effect locking it in this mode as it was healing.

It's like any accent an actor has taken on, it will linger and come and go for a while. Consider he used it 24/7 for two years...he might as well have been born in Memphis at this point.
Just like anyone who moved to another city you eventually adapt the accent if you hear it all the time.

It's called discovering your natural voice, a comfortable space. It happens when people study speech, either for accent, singing, public speaking, or voice recovery purposes. Sometimes people don't realize they've picked up harmful speaking habits until it's too late, especially for people who USE their VOICE a lot and/or WITH INTENTION, where finding a natural tone becomes essential for longevity. Only time will tell if he really found his. 🤷♀️

it’s kinda becoming his own thing. hard to fake raspiness and his voice nowadays has so much natural raspiness (probably has a lot to do with how much singing he had to do for all the takes in filming the Elvis movie). and it’s pretty obvious when someone is intentionally deepening their voice, whereas his deep voice sounds very natural now, especially compared to when he first started doing press releases for his role in the Elvis movie.
I mean really? 4 years is a long time. Not to mention he was just a young kid then, he now has a manly voice.
